Cameron wanted to return to education to study an Access to HE Diploma in Computing to achieve his career ambition of working in the technology sector. Cameron said “ I would recommend an Access course to anyone wanting to come back to education. I feel prepared to go to university and fulfil my career goal of working within the Computing industry.”

Max said “The facilities at College are fantastic and my work placements have helped me decide on my future career. STUDENT SUCCESS ADAM JUMA Adam Juma, a father of four, came to the UK from Sudan and started a cleaning job at Middlesbrough College to support his family. And now hard-working Adam has landed a sought-after job at Newton Aycliffe - base conveyor system manufacturer Advanced Automation after completing a string of motor vehicle and engineering qualifications with Middlesbrough College.

STUDENT SUCCESS - ELLIE GUTCHER

Ellie studies Level 3 Sport and Exercise Science and plays football for Middlesbrough Academy and Middlesbrough Women’s Youth Team, Lionesses. Ellie hopes to one day become a professional sportswoman on the England Women’s Team. Ellie said “My course is beneficial to my training and career goals. I’m also on the Football Academy team, the best part of being on the team is the opportunity to travel to away games.”

If you are aged between 1619 and you are enrolled onto one of our full-time courses, you have the chance to join one of our sporting academies alongside your studies.

You can study any subject at College and also join our Sports Academies and get the chance to play the sports you love!

Each academy offers specialist sports coaching to develop sporting excellence, nurture your natural talent and aid your personal development. With a total of nine hours of coaching, training and fixtures per week, you can choose from our seven academies.

WE DEMAND £ MORE CASH FOR COLLEGES! Our Student Voice has been busy as part of the Love our College’s campaign in which College’s across the North East joined together to demand a fairer funding deal. Students were visited at College by local MP Andy McDonald. The visit saw Andy tour the College and give a talk about his work campaigning against budget cuts.

TEACHING SUCCESS IN KENYA FOR SPORT STUDENT LOUISE! Level 3 Sport student Louise Atkinson has returned from her visit to Kenya with the National Citizenship Service where she taught English, maths and sport to children for 11 days. Louise said “My favourite part of the trip was experiencing the different culture and helping the students.”

DRAMA IN THE CLASSROOM AS STUDENTS TACKLE PATERNITY TESTS Under the expert eye of Dr Richard Spencer – a finalist in the Global Teacher Prize – the group of A-Level students turned into film directors. Students researched, wrote, acted, narrated, filmed and edited the drama which has since earned Middlesbrough College recognition from the LUMA Centre Finland – an organisation

that promotes STEM subjects internationally. The group was shortlisted for the centre’s StarT Education Award. The biology students worked with a peer from the A-Level Media Studies class to create the film, which has received hundreds of views on YouTube.
