Welcoming you back to College

Here at Middlesbrough College we understand the importance of following your dreams.

That’s why we offer a wide breadth of courses specifically designed for adult learners. To ensure you get the continued professional development you need to achieve your ambitions.

Of developing yourself so that you can be whatever you want to be, whatever stage of life you are at.

We welcome students of all ages and backgrounds and offer a supportive, inclusive environment for those returning to education. From beginners’ courses, right the way up to post-graduate qualifications, our courses cover a range of sectors and skills. Our multi-million pound campus and state-of-the-art learning facilities include a health suite, a commercial training restaurant and STEM Technical Training Centre to name a few.

Our staff are all experts in their field and are committed to supporting you throughout your learning. We understand that coming back to college can be difficult to fit around childcare, caring commitments and existing work, which is why many of our adult courses are also flexible and can be taken on either an evening class or part-time basis. Come along to our enrolment events at College where a member of our team will be on hand to assist you.

In order to enrol you will need to supply one form of ID such as:* • Passport • Driving License • Bank Credit/Debit Card • ID Card/Other National ID

You will also need to bring your National Insurance number along with any qualification results slips or certificates. If receiving benefits, separate documentation dated within the last three months must be provided as evidence that you are eligible for concessions for your course. From entry level to degree level, our parttime courses span across a wide range of subjects giving you the best choice and ample opportunity to progress on to higher levels of study.

Where will I study?

You will study at our Middlehaven campus in Middlesbrough which has fantastic links to the Middlesbrough rail and bus stations, meaning you can easily hop on a train or bus to get into College. We’re dedicated to supporting everyone and have dedicated learning areas including: • An Additional Learning Support Centre • An Adult Maths, English & ESOL Centre • An Access to Higher Education Centre • A Higher Education Centre We also delivery a range of courses out in the local community, making it easier than ever for you to take that next step and get back into education.

How much will my course cost?

Fees vary between courses and you can find the fee for each course within our Course Directory (p21). Depending on your circumstances, the cost of your course may be FREE. Costs can be one of the most influential factors when deciding to go back into education which is why we have a dedicated team who are able to guide you through the process and advise on the funding support available.

We'll take care of you We want to make sure that you are completely supported during your time with us. Whether you need help deciding on a course or career, support during a difficult time or just help filling out a form, our Student Support team have a range of services you can easily access. Careers Guidance Find a career that you love with guidance from our experienced team of Careers Advisers. They’ll help you explore your study options, support with CV writing, develop interview skills and provide useful tips on effective job search. Additional Learning Support We strongly believe it is the people that make Middlesbrough College, which is why we offer tailored support packages to every student. When you enrol with us, you will be able to confidentially share any medical conditions and/or disabilities you have with our Additional Learning Support (ALS) team who will work with you to provide a support plan that suits you. From support with Dyslexia or other learning difficulties such as visual impairments to physical mobility problems, our team of experienced staff will provide guidance and support to ensure you have the best possible experience while studying with us. Taking you through the costs Course fees shouldn’t stop you from achieving your ambition and getting you to where you want to be. There are a number of ways we can help. From Learner Support Funds, Childcare Support and Professional and Career Loans, our Student Services team can check your eligibility and help you apply. Advanced Learner Loans (ALL) Find a future that excites you without worrying about fees. If you are aged over 19 and want to study a level 3 or 4 qualification you may qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan from the Government.

HE Tuition Loans Taking your studies higher? You can also enrol on to one of our Higher Education programmes without worrying about any upfront payments. The Student Loans Company provide tuition fee loans to help support your study. The loan is paid directly to Middlesbrough College and repayments will only start once you are earning over £25,000 a year and all debt is wiped after 30 years. Taking the lead on technical training You know you’ll be in good hands if you enrol on to one of our technical training programmes, all courses are delivered by professionals using industry standard facilities, equipment and teaching methods. As one of the leaders in STEM Education, we deliver a range of top quality technical training courses that provide clear routes into skilled employment. Our £20m STEM Engineering Centre is a unique and inspirational space, allowing you to learn new skills in a simulated industrial site and gain vital competencies required by the sector. With a focus on hands-on experience, our courses are developed with driving innovation in mind to ensure you are at the forefront of the latest learning and technology. We’re also proud as punch to be in the final phase of being awarded IoT status in a partnership with New College Durham and Newcastle University, meaning we will be the dedicated technical training hub for higher skills in the Tees Valley.
