Free courses for adults

Aged 19-23

If you do not hold a Level 2 or 3 qualification, you could study your course for free. Look out for the L2E, L3E and LSG* symbols in the course listings.

Aged 24 and over

If you do not yet have a full Level 3 qualification, you can also study your first full Level 3 qualification for FREE look for the LSG* symbol.

Aged 19 and over

If you already have a full Level 3 qualification but are currently either unemployed and on benefits or employed and earning less then £27,040 per year you can also study a full Level 3 qualification for FREE look for the LSG* symbol.

*Part of the Government’s Free Level 3 courses for adults, these fully-funded courses could boost your job prospects and help you access new opportunities.

Course fees shouldn’t stop you from achieving your career ambitions and there are a number of ways we can help. From Learner Support Funds and Childcare Support - our Student Services team can check your eligibility and help you apply.

Our Careers Team are on hand to offer you free impartial advice about your future career. Our team can help with job applications, CVs, interview skills and help to gain work experience.

Additional learning support

We want you to have the best experience at College, so that’s why we offer tailored support packages to every student. When you enrol with us, you will be able to confidentially share any medical conditions and/or disabilities you have with our Additional Learning Support (ALS) team who will work with you to provide a support plan that suits you. From support with Dyslexia or other learning difficulties such as visual impairments to physical mobility problems, our team of experienced staff will provide the support you need to succeed.

Student support

We understand that returning to education can be expensive, but here at Middlesbrough College we are making education accessible for everyone, so that’s why we offer a range of support services including childcare, travel, food, health and wellbeing and financial. We want to help you reach your goals and our dedicated team at 2 Queens Square can support with your needs. Your tutor is the first port of call as a student, but they will refer you to our dedicated member of the team if you require any further support.

Our Student Services team also offer a confidential counselling service and mental health. This service is free and is available to all students.

Our Adult & Community Learning Centre is a dedicated supportive learning zone for adult learners, located at 2 Queens Square just a short walk from the railway and bus stations. At our centre you can study, socialise and learn with like-minded people! We deliver a range of courses in the centre and out in the community, making it easier than ever to learn new skills. Sector Skills Academies

Our sector-based work academies are short courses designed to get you back into work in a specific occupation. They include industryrecognised qualifications alongside a guaranteed job interview or exceptional support for the application process, with a local employer upon completion!

Within all of our courses, you will gain skills in application search, CV writing and interview preparation.

Our Skills Bootcamps will help you to quickly increase your skills in a specific area! These FREE and flexible programmes will help you gain key skills for life and sector specific skills. You'll also be offered a job interview once you complete your course.

The Skills Bootcamps are delivered in partnership with employers, providers and local authorities, to help support skills demands in the local area and ultimately to help people get a better job.

FREE Flexible online learning courses to fit around

you

Upskill in your own time, in your own home and on your own terms with an online learning course!

Our courses are designed to be studied at home so you can learn flexibly around family and work commitments. Better still, they lead to nationally recognised qualifications, which will make the perfect addition to your CV!

Most Level 3 Distance Learning Courses can now be studied for FREE* if:

• You are aged 19+ without a full Level 3 qualification (equivalent to two A Levels)

• You earn below the National Living Wage annually (£20,319) or are unemployed

• You are a Tees Valley resident seeking a career change and you earn below £27,040

Please note

*You will be required to complete the Level 2 within 12 weeks. If you withdraw prior to completing the course or do not complete the course within the required 12 weeks, you will be liable to pay a £50 admin fee.
