Before you start your course, you will be able to confidentially share any medical conditions and/or disabilities with our Additional Learning Support Team. Travel
All unemployed adult learners can access subsidised bus travel during their studies at College, following a £5 fee per term.
Wellbeing, Financial Support and Counselling
Our qualified student support team offer support to help you with any difficulties you may be experiencing whilst studying at college. They can support you with childcare, travel, food, health and wellbeing and finance. We also offer a free confidential Counselling Service. Students seek support for various issues such as anxiety, bereavement, and study problems.

Supporting your study costs
Most of our part-time courses can be studied for FREE, depending on your personal circumstances. The guide below will help to give you an idea on whether you are eligible to study a part-time course for FREE or are eligible for financial support.
Courses marked as FREE*
Courses may be FREE depending on your circumstances. Please note you will need to bring evidence (Wage slip or benefits – paper or electronic):
• You are unemployed and receiving benefits
• You are economically inactive
• You are working and earn a low wage (£33,210 for Tees Valley and North Yorkshire Residents and £25,000 outside of Tees Valley*)
• You are looking for a job
• You are studying your first Full Level 2 or Level 3 course

We know this can be tricky so our expert registry team will be on hand at enrolment or at the end of the phone to talk you through this and get you enrolled on a course.
For some courses, you may be able to pay in instalments. For selected qualifications you can apply for an Advanced Learner Loan or a Tuition Fee Loan to cover your course fees. We can help with all of these.

Distance Learning Courses
Our flexible online learning courses fit around you, so you can upskill in your own time, in your own home and on your own terms. Designed to be studied at home so you can learn flexibly around family and work commitments. Also, they lead to nationally recognised qualifications, which will make you more employable!

Improving your maths skills could help unlock job opportunities and lead to higher wages, prepare you for further study, or simply help with everyday tasks at home – from paying bills and budgeting, to helping the kids with their homework, or even in the kitchen.

University Centre Middlesbrough

Our job-focused University courses are a smart practical alternative to a traditional University, and you will be taught at our Middlehaven Campus in our purpose-built University Centre by experienced higher education tutors.
Our small classes will give you all the support you need, including more teaching hours and regular 1:1 feedback on your work and progress. Many of our courses can be studied on a part-time flexible basis to fit around work and family commitments.

Studied part-time across one year, these Level 3 courses prepare adult learners without traditional qualifications for further study at degree level. Our courses cover a range of units designed to develop academic skills for successful progression into independent study at University.

Whether you dream of becoming a nurse, engineer, teacher, or another high-level profession, our exciting range of courses will help get you there.

We are so excited that our brand-new £12million TTE Centre will be opening its doors in September 2024! The new engineering facility will train over 300 full-time students, 300 apprentices and 500 adults each year, alongside a thriving cohort of international students.

Opportunities in Childcare
With the government roll out of more free childcare for parents from April 2024 and an extra £400million worth of funding there will be a considerable number of jobs available as nurseries and early years providers increase their childcare places.
New recruits will also receive a £1000 bonus when they start their first role in childcare so it has never been a better time to train in a childcare role. Our childcare qualifications will help to give you knowledge, skills and behaviours that you need to prepare you for employment.
Courses are part time and can fit around your job and busy lifestyle whilst you retrain. They are also vocationally based and provided an engaging, inspiring and practical approach to learning. The childcare department at the College have excellent links with local employers to support work placements and offer additional qualifications on many programmes to enhance employability prospects such as Level 3 SEN and Level 3 Paediatric First Aid.

Retrofitting is the upgrading of homes to make them more energy efficient, healthier, and cheaper to live in. There is a skills gap in the Retrofitting industry and therefore we need more skilled workers to help the region future proof their homes.
We are running a range of courses to train up Retrofit Installers, Advisors, Assessors and Co-ordinators and courses may be FREE depending on your personal circumstances.
You might have little or no experience but want to get into the field or are working in construction and want to retrain or upskill into Retrofitting or have employees who you wish to train up.
