“I really enjoy being in the workshop. I am always picking up new tasks and learning new skills! I really enjoy the problem-solving element of the course, as you have to be dependent on yourself to go and find the solution.

The tutors are always helpful and really support and encourage you to push yourself to find new solutions and ways of working. The facilities also replicate the real world, so it’s great to be able to have that hands-on experience.”

“I came to TTE when I finished school, as I always wanted to pursue a career in Engineering and TTE was highly recommended. I also wanted to do more hands-on learning rather than being in a classroom and get the best experience for industry by being trained on-site.

I learn so much from my tutors and they are always on hand to answer any questions I have; they make everyone feel welcome and are incredibly supportive.

Engineering is such an exciting career, and I am glad to have already kick started my career in it with an apprenticeship!”

Progressing onto an apprenticeship

Any learners interested in progressing onto an apprenticeship are encouraged to also apply to a full-time study programme in their chosen specialism. Throughout the year, when an employer requests an intake of apprentices, we open these opportunities up to our full-time learners to apply. If they are successful, they can transfer onto the apprenticeship and continue to complete their qualification on a day release basis, whilst also gaining skills with their new employer.

Many of our learners progress onto apprenticeships each year.

Some of the employers we work with:

Apprenticeships explained

An apprenticeship is a great way to gain what all employers are looking for: qualifications and experience.

They enable you to work alongside experienced staff in addition to studying (usually one day a week) and earning a wage at the same time. With an apprenticeship under your belt, you’ll have achieved a recognised qualification and have the essential skills and experience employers want, meaning you’re more likely to sustain long-lasting employment. Earn and learn at the same time!

Benefits to you

Earn a wage

Gain a recognised qualification

Receive hands-on training

Learn job-specific skills which can only be acquired in the workplace

Northern Skills is the apprenticeship and training arm of the Middlesbrough College Group. New apprenticeship vacancies are made available throughout the year, please check our website for new roles: northernskills.co.uk.

“With the help from TTE, I secured an apprenticeship at Quorn and, after completing my apprenticeship, I was then offered fulltime employment with the company. Since then, I’ve worked across the whole site, from the plants to the offices doing electrical maintenance, insulations, and breakdown. I’ve also achieved an Electrical Engineering HNC.”

We offer Level 3 Apprenticeships for the Process, Electrical Maintenance, Electromechanical, Mechanical Maintenance, Instrumentation & Control, and Laboratory Industries. These include:

• Maintenance and Operations Engineering Technician Apprenticeship

• Laboratory Technician Apprenticeship

• Science Industry Maintenance Technician Apprenticeship

• Science Manufacturing Technician Apprenticeship

• Science Manufacturing Process Operative Apprenticeship
