MISSION

The Department strives to: Improve the quality of life through the provision of well-balanced, high-quality recreation programs for the residents of McAllen to enjoy during their leisure time. Facilitate wholesome and constructive programs with a measurable value to the community. Provide attractive and wellmaintained major parks and recreation facilities in each sector of the city. These facilities should be within a reasonable distance of every surrounding neighborhood and offer safe opportunities for athletic competition, facility gatherings, and other passive and active recreation activities. Promote environmental conservation, eco and cultural tourism and socially oriented special events.

REGISTRATION- 2 easy ways to register ONLINE

Online registration is available seven days a week, 24 hours a day at www.mcallenparks.net. An account with USER ID and password is required to access the system. Create your account online. NOTE: By default, newly created household accounts will appear as nonresident until proof of residency is verified. If you have NEVER registered for a McAllen Parks & Recreation program or are new to the area, you will not have a verified account. To verify McAllen residency, bring one of the following items with you to any of the three community centers listed to the right. Acceptable identification includes: • Utility bill for the household such as gas, electric, water or waste removal. • Phone, television, and internet services bill • Lease, tax, or mortgage statement with your name on it • Auto insurance statement

PAYMENT

The McAllen Parks & Recreation Department accepts payment by check, cash, Visa & Mastercard.

RETURNED CHECK POLICY

A $20 service charge will be assessed for all returned checks, and students will be removed from classes until finances are settled.

SATISFACTION GUARANTEE

If, for any reason, you are not completely satisfied with a class or activity, call or visit a community center. In addition to using your feedback to help us improve our programs, we will arrange one of the following. TRANSFERS between classes will be allowed only prior to the second class meeting, at no charge. After the second class meeting, transfers may be made, pending space availability, with a charge of $5 per class. REFUNDS for classes will be allowed only prior to the second class meeting and will carry a $10 fee per class. Refunds will take 30 to 60 days to process. Requests for transfers and refunds must be in writing. The satisfaction guarantee does not include, adult leagues, contract programs and facility rentals.

PROGRAM CANCELLATION POLICY

The McAllen Parks and Recreation Department reserves the right to cancel, postpone, or combine classes as necessary. Classes may be cancelled due to low enrollment. Register early to view the best schedule options.

The City of McAllen Parks and Recreation welcomes the opportunity to accommodate our patrons with special needs so that full participation in leisure and recreation programs may be enjoyed by all. Reasonable modifications will be assessed on a case-by-case basis taking the appropriate steps to ensuring a safe and enjoyable leisure experience. Patrons with special needs are encouraged to bring a companion with them for assistance at no extra charge in lieu of an additional staff member. The initial request for accommodation should be made on the program registration form.

MEDICAL POLICY

The City of McAllen Parks and Recreation Department will not prohibit any person from participating in an activity due to a medical condition or handicap, unless such condition is likely to cause injury to that individual or other participants in the activity. A participant who has been notified by a qualified medical professional that he/she has a medical condition that is likely to cause injury to themselves or other participants, is obligated to inform the Parks and Recreation Department, at the time of registration, of the condition and willingly withdraw from the program or activity if requested by the Department. It is recommended that all participants receive medical authorization before participating in these programs.

AMIGOS DEL VALLE - SENIOR MEALS

Participating seniors (60 & Over) are able to partake in a free lunch provided by Amigos Del Valle. ADV is recognized as the largest and most enduring non-profit resource senior service. Elderly Supportive Housing service and home meal delivery service provider of the Rio Grande Valley of South Texas. You must be at least 60 years of age or have a spouse who is 60 years of age and attending. Please bring ID during registration. Everyone must fill out a Meal Registration form on their first day before 10:00 AM. Each meal is a $0.25 donation, lunch is served Monday - Friday from 11:30 AM to 12:00 PM.

RGV Roller facilitates adult inline hockey pick-up and leagues. Adult hockey players can reach out via our social media. RGV Roller’s Mission is to grow the sport of hockey and roller skating in our border community.

McAllen Amateur Night Soccer Association (MANSA) is a soccer league made up of adults that enjoy and have a passion for the beautiful game of soccer.

McAllen Amateur Soccer Association (MASA) is the largest adult soccer association in South Texas since 1972.

Lunch leagues flag football is an adult mens flag football league. We are a league that’s run for the players, by the players.

The Mission of the Boys & Girls Club of McAllen is to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.

Looking to play some Rugby? McAllen Rugby currently has two teams The McAllen Knigts RFC and the McAllen Maidens are incorporated with the Texas Rugby Union and the USA Rugby Union.

LIFEGUARDING TRAINING FEE: $125

AGE: 15+

Train to become a certified American Red Cross lifeguard and learn valuable skills including injury prevention, facility safety, patron surveillance, emergency preparation, rescue skills, victim assessment, first aid, CPR/AED and care for head, neck and spinal injuries. PREREQUISITE: Participant must be able to swim 300 yards continuously, complete a timed retrieval of a 10lb object from a depth of 7-10 ft., tread water with no hands for 2 minutes in deep water. In the event a participant fails to complete the prerequisite test, he/ she may request a refund minus the $50 non-refundable fee or transfer to another Lifeguard Training Session at no additional cost. Transfers will only be allowed once per participant for free. Participants 17 and under MUST be accompanied by an adult during the prerequisite activities. Participants must be present for pre-requisite testing and all four class days. Pre-Requisite will take place on first day of class at 5:00 PM. *If under 18 a parent or guardian must be present for the prerequisites in case of an emergency.
