FUTSAL CAMP

Organized in the spirit of spontaneous pick-up soccer, Futsal allows players to expand their game with free play, where the game itself is the teacher. Futsal is the indoor version of soccer. Learn more about techniques to excel in the sport. DATE: TIME: PLACE: FEE:

Monday - Friday (August 6 - 10) 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Palm View Community Center $268 per participant

What is Futsal? Organized in the spirit of spontaneous pick-up soccer, Futsal allows players to expand their game with free play, where the game itself is the teacher. Futsal is the indoor version of association football (soccer) that is officially sanctioned by football’s international governing body, the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA). Futsal is played between two teams of five players, one of which is the goalkeeper; in addition each team may have a number of substitutes. Unlike some other forms of indoor football, the field is delineated by lines, not nets or boards which the ball may be played off. The ball used tends to be heavier and therefore promotes better ball control and on the ground passing. Furthermore the smaller area of play forces players to improve their skills and reaction time to on the spot decision making. About City Futsal City Futsal was founded with the mission to promote the game of futsal for all ages and levels. With two generations of soccer involvement in the DFW area, a training staff with NCAA and US Futsal National Team experience, strong ties with one of the best clubs in Brazil and a burning passion for the game, City Futsal is dedicated to bringing you premier futsal training and competitive opportunities. It is the way we play indoor soccer

Similar to hockey in its formation and rules, this sport also incorporates some soccer strategies. The game is played on a hockey rink with two teams consisting of six players on each side. Similar to hockey and soccer, the object of the game is to score more goals than the opposing team. A player uses a stick (a shaft with a molded broom-shaped head) to maneuver a six-inch diameter ball up and down the ice. Instead of skates, players wear spongy-soled shoes to gain traction when running on the slippery surface.

A participant who has been notified by a qualified medical professional that he/ she has a medical condition that is likely to cause injury to themselves or other participants, is obligated to inform the Parks and Recreation Department, at the time of registration, of the condition and willingly withdraw from the program or activity if requested by the Department. It is recommended that all participants receive medical authorization before participating in these programs.

REFUNDS AND TRANSFERS

We constantly strive to provide you with the highest quality recreation programs. If, for any reason, you are not completely satisfied with a class or activity, please tell us so we can respond to your concerns. In addition to using your feedback to help us improve, for nearly all of our programs, we will arrange one of the following: TRANSFERS between classes will be allowed only prior to the third class meeting, at no charge. After the third class meeting, transfers may be made, pending space availability, with a charge of $5 per class. REFUNDS for classes will be allowed only prior to the third class meeting and will carry a $5 fee per class. Requests for transfers and refunds must be in writing. Some of our programs, such as Adult Leagues and Facility Rentals, have different, specific policies which apply. The McAllen Parks and Recreation Department retains the privilege of canceling any scheduled activity that fails to generate minimum interest. Refunds will take 30 to 60 days to process.

INCLUSION PROCESS

The City of McAllen Parks and Recreation welcomes the opportunity to accommodate our patrons with special needs so that full participation in leisure and recreation programs may be enjoyed by all. Reasonable modifications will be assessed on a case-by-case basis taking the appropriate steps to ensuring a safe and enjoyable leisure experience. Patrons with special needs are encouraged to bring a companion with them for assistance at no extra charge in lieu of an additional staff member. The initial request for accommodation should be made on the program registration form. Contact Rosemary Fuentes, Lark Community Center Manager, at (956) 681-3340 for complete details on the Special Needs Program.
