RETURNED CHECK POLICY

A $20 service charge will be assessed for all returned checks, and students will be removed from classes until finances are settled.

The City of McAllen Parks and Recreation welcomes the opportunity to accommodate our patrons with special needs so that full participation in leisure and recreation programs may be enjoyed by all. Reasonable modifications will be assessed on a caseby-case basis taking the appropriate steps to ensuring a safe and enjoyable leisure experience. Patrons with special needs are encouraged to bring a companion with them for assistance at no extra charge in lieu of an additional staff member. The initial request for accommodation should be made on the program registration form.

REFUNDS & TRANSFERS

We constantly strive to provide you with the highest quality recreation programs. If, for any reason, you are not completely satisfied with a class or activity, please tell us so we can respond to your concerns. In addition to using your feedback to help us improve our programs, we will arrange one of the following.

TRANSFERS between classes will be allowed only prior to the second class meeting, at no charge. After the second class meeting, transfers may be made, pending space availability, with a charge of $5 per class.

REFUNDS for classes will be allowed only prior to the second class meeting and will carry a $10 fee per class. Refunds will take 30 to 60 days to process.

Requests for transfers and refunds must be in writing. Some of our programs, such as adult leagues, contract programs and facility rentals, have different, specific policies which apply. The McAllen Parks and Recreation Department retains the privilege of canceling any scheduled activity that fails to generate minimum interest.

MEDICAL POLICY

The City of McAllen Parks and Recreation

Department will not prohibit any person from participating in an activity due to a medical condition or handicap, unless such condition is likely to cause injury to that individual or other participants in the activity. A participant who has been notified by a qualified medical professional that he/she has a medical condition that is likely to cause injury to themselves or other participants, is obligated to inform the Parks and Recreation Department, at the time of registration, of the condition and willingly withdraw from the program or activity if requested by the Department. It is recommended that all participants receive medical authorization before participating in these programs.

Reserve a park pavilion, pool or community center for your next special event! Perfect for birthday parties, family reunions, weddings, anniversaries and baby showers.

Reservations are accepted in person during regular business hours at the following locations:

The objective of MYSA is to provide coaching and soccer training for children between the ages of 3-18. McAllen Youth Soccer is affiliated with Houston Dynamo (MLS) professional team from Houston. Dynamo STX Academy and MYSA staff members work together to build and develop kids to grow in every aspect in soccer. We have kids every year that grow from MYSA to Dynamo and go on to top colleges to play soccer at the highest level. All of Dynamo STX staff members have very impressive soccer backgrounds in playing the game and coaching the game. All current staff members with Dynamo STX Academy have USSF licenses to put them in line with coaching the current game and the changes that get made continuously within the youth game. As part of the current After School Program, a new sports development program will implement sport skills and technique activities while also focusing on healthy nutrition and reinforcing positive character traits. Every three weeks, all registered program participants will focus on learning a different sport.

Sports include football, kickball, volleyball, floor hockey, baseball and track. A maximum of 12 students per grade level (2nd/3rd - 4th/5th) will be eligible to compete in a fun team tournament to showcase all of their new skills. The student teams will compete during the tournament against other after school sites at the end of the three-week session. All of the McSports after school coaches receive quality training in each individual sport and are committed to providing a safe and fun learning environment. Participants must be registered in the after school program in order to the eligible to compete in the tournament. LIFEGUARDING TRAINING BLENDED LEARNING COURSE Train to become a certified American Red Cross lifeguard and learn valuable skills including injury prevention, facility safety, patron surveillance, emergency preparation, rescue skills, victim assessment, first aid, CPR/AED and care for head, neck and spinal injuries.

PREREQUISITE: Participant must be able

to swim 300 yards continuously, complete a timed retrieval of a 10lb object from a depth of 6ft., tread water with no hands for 2 minutes in deep water. In the event a

participant fails to complete the prerequisite test, he/she may request a refund minus the non-refundable fee. Participants 17 and under MUST be accompanied by an adult during the prerequisite activities.

Participants must be present for pre-requisite testing and all four class days. **This is a Blended Learning course, participants must complete some course work online before in water skills session, and provide certificate of completion, in addition to attending in-person classroom sessions.**

LEARN TO SWIM Join Gus & Goldie to learn important water safety skills. Each participant will receive an official Gus & Goldie t-shirt and certificate of achievement. Advance registration is required and space is limited.

October 28, 2017 Place: Municipal Pool - 1921 N. Bicentennial Blvd Fee: $3.00 Ages 11-14 **ALL McAllen Middle School students get a chance to win their school grade level (6th, 7th or 8th) a private pool party (3 hours) in the month of May 2018. In order to win, a schools grade level must bring in the most non-perishable food items during the event.**

Pre-School

Learn basic water adjustment skills with an emphasis on play to prepare children for comfort in the water for Level 1 & 2. It is designed to teach swimmer independence with initial play in the wading pool and progression to the main pool when students are ready.

Youth

Level 1 &2 (6-13 years)

Swimmers will start to learn basic water exploration and swimming skills. This class covers submersion under the water, floating & gliding on front & back, rhythmic breathing, safety skills, and front & back crawls at the beginner level.

Level 3 (6-13 years)

Designed to help build upon skills learned in Levels 1 & 2. The back crawl will be expanded and the front crawl will be perfected. Students will also learn to tread water.

Level 4 (6-13 years)

Designed to help build upon skills learned in Levels3. Students develop more endurance to swim greater distances. Breaststroke and sidestroke are alos taught.
