PARK HYATT MILANO-EPHEMERAL Year Location Type Team Role

2016 Milano Hospitality, Hotel Ayushi Matta, Caroline Arsad, Jyotsna Joshi, Reha Salvi Group Coordinator, Concept&Design Development, Techical Drawings, Plan&Section Renderings, Material Search&Selection, Video

Collaborate with Park Hyatt Milano The goal of this project is to give a new flair to “La Cupola”, the cupola lobby that needs to be redesigned to create new interest, life and excitement attracting hotel and non-hotel clients for all hours of the day by conceiving unique interiors with unique experiences. Since it will continue to be the epicenter and the meeting point of the hotel, it should be used as a proper Food&Beverage outlet, where people can enjoy not only breakfast, lunch and dinner, but also “All day dining”.

Park Hyatt offers its guests various choices of hospitality in the form of short stay, leisure or business while Milan offers various reasons to travel to for its fashion, design weeks and leisure. An essence of ephemerality exists between the hotel’s hospitality and city’s events as both provide memorable experiences which exist for a short time and are ever changing. Project aim is to tap this potential of ephemerality in the hotel’s lobby through transformation and personalization with the use of flexible screens creating multi – functional spaces for different eating scenarios. The space is also designed as a platform to encourage Italian design and art and aims to deliver an experience which will linger in people’s memories

The idea of transformation and personalizing the brief time one spends in the hotel lobby is executed through the medium of flexible string curtain dividers which create multi – functional spaces that can be used for different eating scenarios and leisure activities throughout the day. The central lounge is designed with movable sofas which cater to several seating combinations when clubbed together, depending on the function and number of users using the space. The core element of our design is the central setting formed by the curtain screen with an elaborate counter table.

The other two curtain screens create semi-casual areas around the cupola for business meetings, relaxation or reading corners. Taking Italian design and art as a central theme for its interior quality, the lobby also acts as a platform to encourage the ever changing contemporary art and design culture of Milan.
