It has been an immense honor for the Club Náutico Mar del Plata to host the 2024 Optimist World Championship. The journey to reclaim hosting rights, following our first Opti Worlds in 1992, was extensive and demanding. Over the course of two years, we faced numerous challenges, but through dedicated teamwork, we successfully brought this event to fruition.
We welcomed 226 competitors from 51 countries across five continents. Mar del Plata offered exceptional sailing conditions, presenting a mix of stunning winds and waves, alongside moderate breezes and calm waters. There is no doubt that the 2024 Optimist World Champion demonstrated remarkable versatility in these varied conditions.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the institutions, sponsors, officials, judges, and authorities from IODA and club members who played a vital role in making this event possible. Above all, we owe a special thanks to the more than 100 volunteers. Their unwavering support and warm smiles made a difference every step of the way—from receive participants at thebreakfast, transporting them to the club, assisting with boat measurements, providing meals, and supporting them in the office and on the ramps, to ensuring their safety during the regatta, providing snacks after race, and wishing them goodnight after dinner. This event could not have happened without your dedication.
