The construction-related programs listed are Baltimore County Public Schools’ Career and Technical Education completer programs approved by the Maryland State Department of Education. A completer program contains a minimum of four credits (not individual courses) offered in a prescribed sequence in a program area, and leads to entry-level employment apprenticeships, and/or entrance in a two-or four-year college upon graduation. Students completing a program successfully are eligible for advanced placement in first year apprenticeship in the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) Apprenticeship Training Program. They may also be eligible for advanced placement and/or testing opportunities through other union or non-union apprenticeship programs. Upon graduation students can enter employment, complete journeyperson apprenticeship, and/or earn a degree at a two-or four-year college.

CURRICULUM OVERVIEW
The Core provides competency-based training and hands-on technical experiences that relate to residential, commercial, and industrial construction pathways. The primary focus is on content and skills common to all construction trades.
Portfolios, competency profiles, and activities in this curriculum are designed to reinforce academic achievement and are an essential component of the various construction pathways offered in BCPS.

P-TECH @ Dundalk High School This program ranges from 4 to 6 years to meet the needs of every student. It is offered at Dundalk High School in partnership with Baltimore County Public Schools, the Community College of Baltimore County, Alban CAT, KCI Technologies, Stanley Black and Decker and Whiting-Turner Construction. Students begin this program full-time at the beginning of 9th grade.

What BCPS Offers Students will acquire skills and practical experience to be successful in a construction career with a focus on a wide range of skills across the industry. Skills are related to carpentry, electrical, HVAC (heating ventilation and air conditioning), and plumbing. Topics include basic skills such as safety, wall and floor framing, water and waste piping, as well as heating and cooling systems.

Students receive instruction in the procedures required for the installation and repair of wiring and control systems for residential and commercial systems. Instruction includes basic electrical theory, circuitry, motor control wiring, circuit protection, installation of lighting and power circuits (both commercial and residential), and the use of electrical test equipment. Theory taught in the instructional portion of this program follows the guidelines established by the National Electrical Code.
