Webinar on Zero Error in Payroll Processing

The Chamber jointly with CEO TSG IR & Labour Compliance Services organized a Webinar on Zero Error in Payroll Processing from 3rd August to 7th August 2020 between 4.00 pm and 5.30 pm (90 minutes each day) & 11.00 am to 12.30 pm & 4.00 to 5.30 pm on 8th August 2020. Leading HR Professionals, Labour Law Experts and Legal Experts handled the sessions. The Topics covered in the webinar include: 1.

A mee�ng with Mr. Muruganandam IAS, Industries Secretary, Mr. Arun Roy, IAS and Ms.Usha Kakarla, IAS, MD, SIPCOT was held on 4th August 2020. Mr Srivats Ram, President, MCCI set the context and Mr Ramkumar Ramamoorthy made a detailed presenta�on on the concept prepared by the core team. The Officials from the Government were apprecia�ve of the detailed analysis and requested the Chamber to work on the Fintech policy.

Role of Institutional Arbitration – Recent Developments to Boost Institutional Arbitration in India Under the auspices of the Arbitra�on Centre, the Chamber organized a web series on Arbitra�on in the first week of every month. This series is to cover the en�re gamut of Arbitra�on in India. The First in the series on“Role of Ins�tu�onal Arbitra�on – Recent Developments to Boost Ins�tu�onal Arbitra�on in India” was held on Thursday 6th August 2020 between 6.00 pm and 7.00 pm.

Mr Anand Gopalan Chairman, MCCI Legal Affairs Commi�ee and gave the introduc�on about Chamber and Arbitra�on Centre.

Ms Madhumathi.C, Registrar, MCCI Arbitra�on Centre introduced the Speaker. Mr.Tejas Karia, Partner, Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co. gave a detailed presenta�on on Role of Ins�tu�onal Arbitra�on. In the Q & A session a�er the presenta�on moderated by Mr.Anand Gopalan, the queries of the par�cipants were clarified by Mr. Tejas Karia. Ms.K. Saraswathi, Secretary General of the Chamber proposed the vote of thanks. We had around 50+ par�cipants who took part in the webinar and the feedback was posi�ve.

The Chamber organized a webinar on Lebanon Port Blast – A Wake Up Call on 17th August 2020 between 04.00 and 06.00 pm ( under the auspices of the Logis�cs commi�ee. The objec�ve was to understand the safety measures being adopted at flights/Ports and to know about the Interna�onal prac�ces a�er the explosion at Beirut.

Mr.Srivats Ram,Vice President MCCI & Managing Director, Wheels India welcomed the speakers and the par�cipants. He said during Covid Pandemic the world is also witnessing other disasters. Although ammonium nitrate is majorly used in fer�lizers, it is also used in explosives and has been historically deployed in the military globally, to cause blasts or explosions. This webinar is to understand the stock of India’s preparedness on the sale, purchase, storage, transporta�on, manufacture, conversion bagging and possession of any hazardous / dangerous material. Mr. J. Krishnan, Member, MCCI General Commi�ee & Partner S Natesa Iyer & Co set the objec�ve of the Program and introduced the Panel Moderator, Mr.B.Govindarajan, Chief Opera�ng Officer, Tirwin Management Services (P) Ltd. Mr. B. Govindarajan, Chief Opera�ng Officer, Tirwin Management Services (P) Ltd, moderated the panel discussion. He introduced the other Panelists to the webinar. Mr.Geoff Leach, Director, The Dangerous Goods Office Ltd., UK, spoke about how the dangerous/ hazardous goods are being handled in flight cargo area and he shared the Interna�onal prac�ces and procedures including the carriage of regula�on 2003 and storage philosophy. Mr.K H K .Rangan, Director Ranga Safety and Marine Consultant, Independent Consultant, DuPont, Sustainable Solu�ons, Singapore. Informed generally dangerous goods have to be taken care and all its imports and exports have to have regula�ons. Beirut is a wake-up call. We should learn from these catastrophes and make sure they don’t happen again. It shouldn’t be a different chemical tomorrow, he added. He shared about the general norms and prac�ces. Mr.Ennarasu Karunesan, Founder & CEO, UMK Group spoke on hazardous / dangerous goods being handled in ports. He pointed out the Stakeholders responsibility opera�ng inside the port facility. He also covered on IMO standards of handling Hazardous goods. He added that India Sea ports are generally safe and the a�tude to change and to follow the procedures is essen�al to do safe handling of all materials. Mr. Praveen Pathak, Chief Technical Officer – Commercial Royal Sundaram General Insurance Co. spoke on the insurance perspec�ve. He covered as to how risks are being assessed and risk mi�ga�on demurrages are being charged. Mr Govindarajan, the Panel Moderator posted many ques�ons related to port, sea and flight regula�ons, other dangerous good handling measures, etc. The Panel discussion was followed by a Q and A session. Mr Udayabhasakara Reddy, Chairman of Logis�cs Expert Commi�ee proposed the formal vote of thanks. The Webinar was a�ended by more than 169 + par�cipants.

Talk on Madras – A Historical Fincity

The Chamber organized a “Talk on Madras – A Historical Fincity" on 21st August 2020 (Friday) between 5.00 pm and 06.00 pm. This was organized to commemorate the Madras Day and in line with the new ini�a�ve of the Chamber to make Chennai a next genera�on financial hub. Ms K Saraswathi, Secretary General, MCCI gave the welcome address. Mr Srivats Ram, President MCCI made the context se�ng. He briefed about MCCI’s history and role and informed about the Chambers new ini�a�ve “Chennai as a Next Financial Hub”, taking a lead on making Chennai a next genera�on financial hub. He added that the dra� fintech policy is in process to be submi�ed to the Government. He introduced the speaker Mr V.Sriram, Historian.

Mr V Sriram made a very detailed presenta�on. He talked about how some of Indian industrys first financial concepts took root in erstwhile Madras. Chennai has had a long history of industry and commerce. Part of the city’s financial roots goes back to when Dubashes worked with the Dutch and Portuguese and later with the English. The most important people were Mr. Pachiyappa Mudaliar who worked with the East India Company and Mr. Ananda Ranga Pillai who worked with Dupleix, Governor of French Pondicherry. From Nawab of Arcot’s to Thomas Parry of Parry & Co and John Binny of Binny & Co. and the Arbuthnot bank (Bri�sh origin) which went bankrupt in Madras in 1906 were covered in detail. Madras stock, Indian Overseas bank origin details were also highlighted. He added that a�er independence in 1947, several local businessmen expanded the business by purchasing Bri�sh managed companies or by star�ng on their own. The major groups were Simpson-Amalgama�ons, TVS and Murgappa group. A�er the presenta�on, we had a Q&A session. Webinar was well a�ended by more than 80+ a�endees. Other Mee�ngs: 1.

Alpha Arts & Science College organized a webinar on Women Empowerment the Leader in You” on 14th August between 11.00 am and 12 noon. Ms K Saraswathi, MCCI Secretary General was the Resource Person. She made a very detailed presenta�on on Women empowerment, need of women empowerment and MCCI role in empowering women and its ini�a�ves like women directors forum. We had posi�ve feedback from more than 170 students and facul�es who a�ended the webinar.
