virtually
following the release of the Union Budget on 1st February 2022 by the Finance Minister, Government of India
Mr. Srivats Ram, President MCCI welcomed
the
delegates
and
highlighted the key features of the budget.
Mr. K. Vaitheeswaran Chairman, MCCI Expert Commi�ee on GST & Advocate and Tax Consultant made a very detailed presenta�on on the Budget Analysis on Indirect Taxes and GST. Mr. Vikram Vijayaraghavan, Co Chairman, MCCI Expert Commi�ee on Direct Taxes & Advocate Subbaraya Aiyar Padmanabhan & Ramamani (SAPR) Advocates made a detailed presenta�on on Budget Analysis on Direct Tax.

Mr. Sriram Seshadri, GC Member ,Partner, Price Waterhouse &Co.LLP summed up the tax provisions. Dr. M.R. Venkatesh, Designated Partner, Agastya Legal LLP, gave a brief overview of the economic impact of the budget. Mr. T.R. Kesavan,Vice President, MCCI ,Group President (Corporate Rela�ons & Alliances) TAFE Ltd. proposed the formal vote of thanks. The Program was well a�ended by more than 100 delegates across industries and the feedback was posi�ve.

8th February 2022 Conference on Tamil Nadu Energy – The Way to a Sustainable Future
The Chamber conducted its annual Flagship Conference on Tamil Nadu Energy - The way to a Sustainable Future on 8th February 2021. This was the 9th Power Conference. The conference proposed to look in to the current status of power in the context of growing demand and provide a pla�orm to discuss the possible reforms needed for the sector towards improving the financial viability and sustainability. The presenta�ons in the Technical

sessions were elaborate and the discussions in the panel was focussed on providing the necessary recommenda�ons to the Government. Mr. Srivats Ram gave the welcome address and set the context for the conference. Mr. V. Sriram, Co Founder and Partner, Samma� Consul�ng and Analy�cs LLP made a presenta�on on the overview of the power situa�on in TN. Mr Shaji John, Director (Power), NLC India Ltd. the Special Guest addresses the par�cipants about the measures taken by NLC for a way to a sustainable future. Thiru Rajesh Lakhoni, IAS, Chairman cum Managing Director, TANGEDCO, Govt. of Tamil Nadu was the Chief Guest. In his address, he assured that the State need not have any fear of energy shortage for the next 10 years at least as the power genera�on through various means is self-sufficient. He further addressed on the opera�onal efficiency and how the cost saving measures adopted in TANGEDCO would help in cu�ng down the losses. In the Technical Session, Mr. Ankit Piplani, Vice President, EY made a detailed presenta�on on the Future of power in TN (Current Status, Demand and Growth projec�ons) Mr.Sabyasachi Majumdar, Head- Energy Sector, ICRA made a presenta�on on Financial viability of TN power sector(Key Issues & Findings) Mr. Umashankar Gantayat,Independent Advisor (Energy) made a presenta�on on Sustainable Power- How to get there ? (COP 26 and outcomes/ commitments) In the panel discussion, moderated by Moderator Mr.T.Shivaraman, Managing Director, SEPC Ltd., the speakers were Mr Vivek Harinarain IAS (Retd.) Managing Director, OPG Power Group Mr.Eisenhower lke Swaminathan, Managing Director, Saint-Gobain India Private Ltd. Mr.Narasinga Rao, Senior Director, Cognizant Technology Solu�ons. The delibera�ons during this conference iden�fied the short term and medium and long term ini�a�ves that TANGEDCO can possibly take up to ensure the sustained viability of the power sector. The summary of recommenda�ons have been submi�ed to the Government for their necessary considera�on. Mr. Balachandran Dharman, Co-Chair, MCCI Energy Commi�ee proposed the formal vote of thanks.

Virtual Cer�ficate Course on Digital HR The Chamber under the auspices of the HR & IR Commi�ee formed a core commi�ee to curate the Cer�ficate Course on Digital HR under the guidance of Mr. Shyam Sundar, Chair, HR Commi�ee. Based on the discussions, the Cer�ficate course was designed for 6 days for 3 months on alternate Saturdays. The objec�ve of the course was to
explore the
applica�on of digital technologies in the work place and to review how these technologies can have an impact on the workplace and HR roles. Mr.S.V.Nathan, Partner & Chief Talent Officer, Deloi�e South Asia was the Chief Guest on the day the course was commenced with 29 par�cipants. In the first session, Mr AnanthaSayana, Former Chief Digital Officer, L&T Ltd. dealt with why Digital HR and explained the nuances of Digital HR followed by the Recruitment process by Mr.Rajeev Menon, VP & Global Head - Talent Acquisi�on, WIPRO.
