Interac�ve Mee�ng with the Officials of Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Chennai Under the auspices of the Company Law and Corporate Ma�ers Commi�ee, the Chamber

organized

an

interac�ve mee�ng with the senior officials of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Chennai on 5th January 2022 at the MCCI Conference room. Dr.

Mr. K G Joseph Jackson – Registrar of Companies – Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Chennai addressed the gathering. The a�endees included representa�ves from Corporates and Professionals like Company Secretaries, Chartered Accountants and Advocates. It was a very absorbing interac�ve session where the officials of Ministry of Corporate Affairs clarified many queries raised. Challenges faced by the Professionals were discussed. The Officials briefed about various ac�vi�es being carried on by the Ministry. It was a very useful and informa�ve session and the members felt the need for more such interac�ve sessions.

8th January 2022 Session on Dra� Media�on Bill

Under the auspices of the MCCI Arbitra�on, Media�on and Concilia�on Centre and the Legal Commi�ee, the Chamber organised a Session on Dra� Media�on Bill on 8th January 2022. Mr. Anand Gopalan, Chair, MCCI Legal Commi�ee welcomed the par�cipants. Ms. Chitra Narayan, Media�on and Founder, FCDR made a presenta�on on Media�on Bill and explained elaborately on the various provisions of the Bill.

The Q and A Session was moderated Ms. Savitha Jagadeesan Co Chairperson, Legal Commi�ee and the queries were answered by Ms. Chitra. Ms.Savitha proposed the formal vote of thanks. The program was a�ended by 40 par�cipants.

11th January 2022 Awareness session on Legal Metrology Act & Compliances The Chamber under the auspices of the Legal Commi�ee organised the Awareness Session on Legal Metrology Act and Compliances on 11th January 2022 Ms. K. Saraswathi, Secretary General welcomed the members. Ms.Savitha Jagadeesan ,Co-Chair, MCCI Legal Affairs Commi�ee set the context and introduced the speakers. Mr.Ch.Moulali, Consultant, Former Deputy Director, Legal Metrology, Govt. of India made an elaborate presenta�on on the various sec�ons of the Legal Metrology Act. Mr.Gagan Verma, Partner, Kochhar & Co.,in his address supplemented the presenta�on made by Mr. Moulali. The queries raised by 50+ par�cipants were answered by the resource persons. Ms. Saraswathi proposed the formal vote of thanks. The feedback was posi�ve.

The Chamber celebrated the first anniversary of the MAMC on 25th January 2022. On this special occasion, Hon’ble Jus�ce Mr. Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy addressed on “Arbitra�on in Construc�on Contracts: Claims and Challenges”

Mr. Srivats Ram, President, MCCI and Chairman, MAMC inaugurated the event by welcoming the Hon’ble Jus�ce, members of the board and the a�endees to the virtual gathering. Mr. Anand Gopalan Member, Governing Council, MAMC and Chairperson, Legal Commi�ee, gave a brief note on the various ac�vi�es of the Chamber and introduced Hon’ble Jus�ce to the audience. Hon’ble Jus�ce Mr. Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy in his address began with the first issue which is “Why courts are reluctant to interfere with arbitral process?”. He then addressed on the different types of construc�on contracts, and on which circumstances each of them will be opted. Hon’ble Jus�ce had also supported his points with various illustra�ons and cases on the issue. He then briefed the audience about the price varia�on claims, disrup�on claims, prolonga�on claims and claims towards loss of profits from the contractor’s point of view. He also covered thechallenges to arbitral awards in eviden�ary perspec�ve. Mr. Anirudh Krishnan, Member Governing Council, MAMC moderated the Q & A Session. Mr. K. Vaitheeswaran, Member Governing Council, MAMC proposed the formal vote of thanks.

28th January 2022 Panel Discussion on Managing the Unconscious Bias

The Chamber under the auspices of the Women Business Council organized a virtual panel discussion on “Managing the Unconscious Bias on 28th January 2022. Ms. K. Saraswathi welcomed the panelists and the par�cipants. Ms. Madhumathi introduced the speakers. Ms. Bhavani Balasubramanian set the context and put forward the following ques�ons to the panelists. • Un conscious bias is ever changing and acquires defini�ons with different scenarios. How do you view and define it? • What are the common types of biases that manifest at the work place and how does it manifest in the work place in the career life cycle gender biases and micro aggressions? • What are the experiences of Women in public sector who are affected due to biases which you have seen? • How do you find recent bias trends? Are we in a be�er place now? • Are there certain organiza�onal best prac�ces against biases you have come across that you would like to share?

The Panelists, Ms. Charushree IAS Commissioner, Corpora�on, Tu�corin shared her experiences in the Public Sector and described the various ini�a�ves taken by her with the support of the Government to bring an awareness among people. She shared a few incidents in her personal life where she has experienced unconscious bias. Ms. Gayathri Swaminathan, Director, Ford Credit shared her perspec�ves from the Corporate sector. Mr. Kannan Hariharan, Chief Strategist- Diversity and Belongingness, AVTAR shared his inputs from his experiences overseas and elaborated on the organiza�onal best prac�ces against biases. The program was well received by the par�cipants.

General Commi�ee Mee�ng The General Commi�ee mee�ng was held on 18th January 2022.

Mee�ng with UNIDO A few members of the manufacturing commi�ee and the IT Commi�ee had an interac�on with representa�ves from UNIDO on the Industry 4.0 (I4.0) opportuni�es for manufacturing excellence in the state of Tamil Nadu. This was a preliminary mee�ng wherein Dr. Rene Ven Berkel, Regional Representa�ve of UNIDO Regional Office in India made a presenta�on on "Opportuni�es for Advanced Digital Produc�on in the manufacturing sector in India " and sought inputs from the members of the Chamber. Further discussions will be held and the possibility of UNIDO and the Chamber collabora�ng on this UNIDO project will be explored.
