MCCS Iwakuni is a multifaceted organization that provides products and services to the greater MCAS community. Our programs and services provide and improve the quality of life for our community. Basic needs, such as food and clothing, social and recreational activities, as well as prevention and intervention programs to combat societal ills which inhibit posi tive development and growth are just a few of the benefits MCCS provides for the community. These services are consolidated under four main categories: Marine & Family, Dining & Entertainment, Recreation & Leisure, and Shopping & Services.

MCCS connects to the community through a combination of social media and digital platforms as well as direct customer promotion and advertising. Through these interactions we strive to bring value to the MCCS community. Analytical data indicates the majority of our community consumes information through mobile and web-based platforms but our community’s story is best told through person-to-person interaction. This allows us to develop and maintain the personal connections essential to marketing efforts.

To the Executives, Managers, Supervisors, and Employees of MCCS Iwakuni:

We’re expecting 2019 to be the most exciting year in the history of MCCS Iwakuni. This year will certainly be our most ambitious.

The MCCS Calendar is built around and punctuated by major events. These ‘Priority One’ events have an important and powerful impression on the patrons we are charged to serve. Furthermore, the events we plan and execute often influence our relations with the Japanese community outside the installation. In a few cases, our events generate critical revenue that we reinvest back into our programs and activities.

This 2019 MCCS Marketing Plan does a terrific job at highlighting our Priority One events and why we do them. Since every Priority One event normally requires more resources and organizational focus, every major event we conduct contains an explicit and well thought out purpose. As a result, MCCS defines success for an event on whether we accomplished what we set out to do.

The Priority One list for 2019 includes a lot of reoccurring events we’ve seen in the past such as Friendship Day, the Marine Corps Birthday Ball season, and our biannual shopping bazaars. What’s different this year is that we’re expanding the number of offerings in our most frequented venues (Club Iwakuni, Sakura Theater, etc) aboard the installation while significantly increasing the caliber of events at the Atago Sports Complex. If we’re successful in 2019, events with names like Iwacon and the Friendship Flea Market will likely stay on the Priority One list for years to come.

Most importantly, each and every member of the MCCS team is integral to our success. I look forward to serving aside all of you for what promises to be a challenging and exhilarating 2019.

Marine and Family includes the library, counseling services, family resources, servicemembers resources, cultural and relocation resources, and family readiness.

New Initiatives: Based on current funding and staffing levels, Personal and Professional Development (P&PD), FCP, and Marine Corps Family Team Building (MCFTB) will not be implementing any new initiatives for 2018 and 2019. However, Behavioral Health is launching a series of support groups to all members of the community, and enhancing our educational efforts with a myriad of classes and workshops. Awareness campaigns and outreach events for the community at large are front seat for our Substance Use Center, Community Counseling Program, and Family Advocacy and New Parent Support Programs.

“Marine and Family Programs (M&FP) strives to provide the MCAS Iwakuni Community with top notch services when it comes to Education, Employment Assistance, Transition, Information, and Referral. Supporting our local community with programs like L.I.N.K.S for Servicemembers helps in assisting our family members with their acclamation to Iwakuni. Additionally, we stand ready to assist when our family members are ready to go back to work with child services availability in the Child Development Center and School Age Care. MCCS, M&FP belongs to our Iwakuni families and I encourage each and every one in our community to take advantage of the services offered onboard the air station.”

Dining and Entertainment includes our food concepts that are located at the Crossroads food court, Club Iwakuni, Torii Pines, The Hangar, as well as Chili’s Bar & Grill and the new Bueno Burrito Tex Mex food concept. This also includes the Sakura Theater where we show a number of first run movies, host private events, and numerous ceremonies, concerts, and comedy shows.

New Initiatives: Over the course of the rest of the year, we’re looking at opening Bueno Burrito, opening the Burger King and Taco Bell at the Hangar, refreshing the JDs menu and updating the interior decor, and adding new furniture to the Torii Pines Cafe.

recreation & leisure

Recreation and Leisure includes our Semper Fit programs which include: aquatics, athletics, fitness centers, pools, outdoor recreation, and the new Atago Sports Complex. The auto skills center, skate park, travel (IT&T, IACE Travel, Inns of the Corps, and car rental), and the Strike Zone bowling alley also fall under Recreation and Leisure.

New Initiatives: The predominant initiatives being realized by Semper Fit include increasing activity and presence at the new Atago Sports Complex. Through coordination with the Iwakuni City government, joint events like women’s soccer, track & field meets, softball games, youth sport camps, MCCS Iwakuni and the local Japanese government are connecting our community with those off station. On station initiatives include the ongoing Crossfire paintball activity, the opening of a new track and field near IronWorks North, and next year’s opening of the new Penny Lake fields.

Shopping and Services includes the Marine Corps Exchange (MCX), Marine Marts (Main, Northside, and Atago), MCXTreme Bikes and More, Services+, Typhoon Motors, FTD Flowers, online uniform shop, Four Seasons Gift Shop, the laundromat at Torii Pines, Starch and Stripes, the vet clinic, Barking Lot dog kennel, North Side Barber Shop, Torii Pines Barber Shop, Tanaka Optical, Chubb Insurance, Softbank, and Americable.

New Initiatives: The MCX staff is predominantly focusing on the grand opening of the new MCX on station March 2019. Military Clothing is facilitating the influx of new Navy personnel with increasing stock in new Navy uniforms. The MCX is also working to create an event here on MCAS Iwakuni for the Navy Chiefs Transition so our servicemembers won’t have to go to Sasebo to do this ceremony.

Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month

February Family Advocacy Program

To raise awareness of healthy relationships and prevent unhealthy patterns in teen dating. To let the community know of local resources available for intervention and support. Most activities are planned and hosted in conjunction with DODEA MC Perry High School and Iwakuni Middle School.

The theme for this year is “Live Love Laugh Healthy,” and the tagline is “A healthy relationship starts with you.” Activities include seminars to talk to the students about healthy relationships and what a loving relationship looks like and does not look like.

Child Abuse Prevention Month

Family Advocacy Program IronWorks & Crossroads Ampitheater

Throughout the entire month of April, the Family Advocacy Program (FAP) hosts and collaborates with different command units, Marine Corps Community Services (MCCS), DODEA, and other organizations to raise awareness and prevent child abuse.

The Pinwheel Planting recognizes and validates the collective responsibility of our community to prevent and confront all forms of child abuse and neglect. Events have an emphasis on learning about local resources available to report any type of abuse and seek help and support.

Children should be raised in a safe, healthy, and nurturing environment. Join the MCAS Iwakuni community in planting pinwheels at the Cherry Blossom Triangle to raise awareness for child abuse prevention month.

To provide our Marines and guests a week-long celebration to recognize the Marine Corps Birthday. The Marine Corps Birthday is celebrated every year on November 10. Officially born as the Continental Marines in 1775 with subsequent recruiting at Tun Tavern.

Marines commemorate their inception at the Marine Corps Ball every year. Here in Iwakuni, the Ball is hosted at IronWorks Gym during the week leading up to the Marine Corps Birthday where Marines come together under the umbrella of camaraderie and celebrate the traditions that are the blueprints for the Corps today.

MCCS maintains mission readiness and improves productivity through programs that promote the physical and mental well being of all members of our community, which includes active duty servicemembers, reservists, veterans, civilian employees, spouses, and dependents.

MCCS programs promote esprit de corps among active duty servicemembers, develop a strong sense of camaraderie, and increase morale. Satisfaction with military lifestyle and the integration of families into the military community also has a positive effect on the recruitment and retention of quality Marines.

These programs and activities satisfy the basic physiological and psychological needs of Marines and their families, providing a home away from home and community support for Marines and their families.

Design and deploy a customercentric means of determining and affirming the needs of the customer base.

Conduct an Enterprisewide Customer Needs Assessment survey that determines the needs of our patrons and alignment of those needs with the Programs, Activities, Goods, and Services we offer.

Execute the formal introduction of one new program, activity, and/or Line of Business beginning FY22. Determine what and where to introduce a new MCCS product concept by way of a Business Case Analysis; including the Market Analysis that should underpin every decision to introduce a new product to the customer base.

Design and deploy a system that provides continuous communication between the enterprise and the customer base.

Create an Enterprise Signage Master Plan to be deployed across the installation. This plan should encompass interior signage, exterior signage, directional traffic signage, rules for use of the MCCS Iwakuni logo/brand, and a procurement and deployment plan.

Design and publish an Annual MCCS Events Calendar that encompases “Who, What, Where, When”. Companion pieces should be designed and published with updated/ accurate information one month before the beginning of each Quarter, and one week before the beginning of each month.

Develop and exercise a system to determine contact information for all inbound customers. Elements of the First Contact would include a “package” of useful information from MCCS that might include information concerning services aboard the installation, school enrollment procedures, bus schedules, MCCS offerings, off base local attractions, and discounted tickets/chit for use as MCCS activities. In short: A “Welcome Aboard” from MCCS.

Design and deploy a system that targets and exploits all available channels of communication in order to influence the attitudes, behaviors, and buying habits of the customer base.

Achieve and Deliver Operational Excellence in all that We Do

Design and deploy a library of Operating Standards for every Line of Business, Program, and Activity to assist with determining our movement towards continuous process improvement.

Design and develop a branded resource document that serves as a “Welcome Aboard” Center for new joins, particularly those moving into family housing. This document would identify a mixture of product that serves as a “One Stop Shop” and includes such items of interest as: garden hoses, shelf paper, toilet paper, detergents, paper towels, hangers and wall hanging devices, school supplies, cleaning supplies, etc. The document will identify where to find these items in the MCX.

Conduct a study to determine the requirement and design for MCCS uniforms. Priority should be given to determining the utility of uniforms, or uniform items, in all customerfacing activities, the need for safe and utilitarian uniforms in maintenance and the utility and visibility of uniforms in recreational programs.

Invest in and Develop the Human Capital that is Entrusted to Our Enterprise

Conduct a review of all MCCS Directives, Policies, and Procedures, to ensure alignment between the needs of the enterprise and the needs of our employees.

Design and institutionalize a Change Management Plan and attendant Communications Plan that can be incorporated into every significant change in operations, mission expansion/contraction, procedural/policy changes, and/or major changes in operational tempo/ installation requirements. The subject documents should be of a standard format and available for use during the activation of the MCCS Iwakuni Planning System.
