our mom is your rock, your foundation, your strength and your greatest champion. She stayed up nights with you when you were sick, helped you with homework and put a bandage on your “owies.” She brought you into this world, and she may have mentioned on occasion she can also take you out of it. In honor of mom, we celebrate her beauty, grace and sacrifice each year in May as a special token of gratitude for all that she does for us. Give mom the morning off and take her to an MCCS Club or Restaurant for a hearty Mother’s Day Breakfast…it’s the least that you can do! On May 14, Taiyo Steakhouse will be offering an a la carte brunch menu from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

CCS New Parent Support Program invites expectant mothers and fathers to join their 12week birth and parenting education series, Journey Through Pregnancy. These informative sessions offer an open environment for parentsto-be to ask questions and receive instruction on everything from understanding pregnancy, birth, mother and infant care, breastfeeding and more. Moms and dads are invited to attend these sessions together so both can understand the changes moms undergo through pregnancy and how to keep mom and baby healthy. Camps Courtney, Foster and Kinser each offer a Journey Through Pregnancy session as part of a larger series of parenting classes for couples. Baby Boot Camps are held throughout the year and are a great

follow-up to the Journey Through Pregnancy class. Once baby has arrived, sign up for an Infant Massage class, or one of the many Play Mornings held on Camps Courtney, Foster and Kinser.

To register for Journey Through Pregnancy, or any of the other classes New Parent Support offers, call 6450396. For more information about dates, times and locations for classes, go to mccsokinawa.com/npsp.

lthough Mother’s Day is traced ‌back to when the Egyptians paid homage to maternal deities like Isis, followed by the Greeks honoring Rhea, the mother of the gods, today’s Mother’s Day was the brainchild of social activist Julia Ward Howe. After the Civil War, she wanted to unite mothers from the north and south following the deaths of their sons. Though her original proposal fizzled, with the continued dedication of activist Anna Reeves Jarvis and her daughter Anna M. Jarvis in the early 1900s, Mother’s Day was declared a holiday on the second Sunday of May by President Woodrow Wilson in 1914. Sons, daughters and fathers have since been showering moms across the country with paper plates adorned with colorful macaroni, finger-painted masterpieces, ceramic handprint

memorabilia and flowers, originally carnations. In addition to these gifts created with love and little hands, treat mom to something special this year by taking her on a relaxing buffet and sea adventure with MCCS Tours+. Take mom on a trip to Busena Cape to enjoy the colorful sea life through a 360-degree observatory, then hop

onto the glass-bottom boat and continue the adventure. Afterwards, dine on a sumptuous buffet at the Okinawa Marriott Resort. The tour will be on May 14 from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Adults are $55, children (3 to 12) are $32, children (under 3) are FREE. For details, visit mccsokinawa.com/tours.
