unning, biking and swimming are the holy trinity of athleticism. While competing in these activities individually requires stamina, there is no better way to test an athlete’s endurance than doing all three back-to-back. Regardless of whether they are experienced triathletes or are training for the first one, the TriKids, MiniKids and Women’s Only Triathlon is sure to be a fun and challenging event for everyone who competes. The TriKids, MiniKids and Women’s Only Triathlon will take place on May 27 on Camp Kinser and June 24 on Camp Foster. All races start at 6 a.m. The women’s category is for females over the age of 13. The Trikids category is for children ages 7 to 14. The Minikids race is for mini-athletes under the age of 10. Participants can register online at mccsokinawa. com/aquatics no later than four days before the respective race.

5 Reasons to Hit the Pool

e have devised many ways to cool off, such as air conditioning and popsicles, but nothing is immediately refreshing as a plunge in the pool. Here are the top five reasons to visit your local MCCS pool this summer. 1. Heart Health: Swimming keeps your heart strong. Although we are land-lubbers by nature, we can adapt quickly to moving around in water. MCCS Aquatics hosts a number of swim meets, races and aquathlons to keep your cardio up. Just starting? Sign up for a swim class at mccsokinawa. com/learntoswim. 2. Build Muscle: Swimming is a full body workout and will build muscular strength and endurance without adding more stress to your joints. Adding some resistance to your legs such as fins is a way to increase the intensity. 3. Cross Training: Mixing some low impact training with higher im-

pact training will balance out your current regimen. Swimming may also relieve your sore muscles, enhance recovery and work smaller muscle groups which will prevent future injury. 4. Flexibility: It may be counterintuitive to summer weather, but spending some time in a heated pool can relax the muscles and increase flexibility

while reducing muscle soreness. 5. Social Outlet: Joining the Okinawa Dolphins swim team or a triathlon training group is a great way to meet new friends with common interests. Check out mccsokinawa. com/swimteam for details. Visit mccsokinawa.com/aquatics for a full schedule and hours for all the MCCS pools on island.

Ace the Interview

he interview is the most vital phase of the hiring process. While job seekers are rightly concerned with writing the perfect resume, the interview is the opportunity to make a positive impression on the employer. Here are few guidelines on how to prepare for the interview: Know the company, position and interviewers. Visit the company website, follow them on Twitter, speak to current employees and search the web for articles related to the business. Read the position description carefully so your past experience and skills are in line with the current opening. Professional appearance shows respect for the position, the company and the interviewer. Never make the mistake of being under-dressed. Practice proper hygiene, don’t chew gum, and if you smoke, save it until after the interview. Avoid perfumes and colognes since they can be an

allergen for some people. Arrive 15 minutes early and make sure the directions to the meeting place are understood. Assume you are being observed from the time you pull into the parking lot. Be pleasant to the front desk person, as this is part of the interview. Remember to project confidence but not arrogance. Maintain eye contact
