The day's catch at Itoman Fish Market.
kinawa is surrounded by water, which means that there is always fresh seafood to be had. The island is dotted with fish markets, offering the best of the daily catch to shoppers. Itoman Fish Market is one of the best markets on island and visitors can drop in to view and purchase an assortment of seafood, from squid and octopus to tuna and eel. Sightseers can also buy freshly cut sashimi to eat at the market or take home.

Itoman boasts one of Okinawa’s largest ports and is known for being a fisherman’s town, so it comes to no surprise that the Itoman Fish Market offers one of the widest assortments of fresh seafood on island. To get to Itoman Fish Market, go south on Highway 58 and follow it past the airport as it turns into Route 331. Continue south past Ashibinaa Outlet Mall and Nishizaki Sports Park and look for the market signs on the right.

here is no better way to celebrate the Fourth of July than with a good ol’ fashioned BBQ. There is something undoubtedly American about grilling meat outdoors upon a charcoal fueled flame. MCCS clubs, being home to the best, most American clubs in the world, know how to celebrate our country’s independence in proper form—FREE BBQs for all. Thomas Jefferson would be proud. From the BeachHead on Camp Schwab to The Surfside on Kinser, there will be tons of free food and entertainment at all the clubs across the island, along with prize giveaways, live DJs, karaoke and even a costume contest at some locations. Each location has different schedules and something different planned so check with your nearest club for full details or visit mccsokinawa.com/clubs.

Summer Reading Program
CCS Libraries’ 2014 summer reading program, “Paws to Read,” has everything you need to get your child or teen ready to read this summer. Kids that keep reading through the summer can earn prizes. The program is for readers 11 and under and 12 to 18. The goal during this six-week program is for children to read, or be read to, a total number of hours depending on their age category. Teens will target a higher goal by reaching benchmark goals. Small incentive prizes will be awarded for making progress along with a chance to win grand prizes at the end. This year’s program began on June 22 and runs through August 3. To
register, visit an MCCS Library on Camp Kinser, Foster or Courtney. For more information, stop by one of the
