ne step outside and it feels like you’ve been punched in the face by a sauna. In other words, you’re sweating like a pig and burning into a crisp. You could make cookies on your car’s dashboard or an omelet on the sidewalk—and sadly that’s not being dramatic. It wouldn’t be surprising if the pools started boiling at this point (okay, that might be a little dramatic), and since being hot is exhausting, we could all use a cool boost. Nothing’s more refreshing than an ice-cold drink when you’re burning up, so how about a frozen blend coffee? Treat yourself to the sweet buzz of caffeine and it’ll help you get through the rest of the day. Stop by your nearest Bonsai Coffee Company for a delicious frozen blend to help you cool down. There’s several to choose from, such as the Caramel Blend (a classic combination of coffee, milk, caramel and ice,

finished with whipped cream and a swirl of buttery caramel sauce), the crunchy yet creamy Mocha Chip (made with coffee, milk, chocolate, vanilla and ice, and topped with whipped cream, chocolate sauce and chocolate chips), the White Mocha (layers of white chocolate sauce blended with coffee, milk and ice with whipped cream and drizzle on top) and more. Or, if you’re somehow not a coffee drinker, try the Fruit & Cream, which is a blend of peach, mango or raspberry flavor, milk and ice, topped, of course, with whipped cream. Bonsai is located on Camps Foster (inside the Community Center), Schwab (in BeachHead) and Hansen (in The Palms). Bonsai also offers other delicious beverages, such as tea, and carries Meals Fit4Life, pastries, treats and more. For more information, visit mccsokinawa.com/bonsai.

Sculpt your masterpiece out of thin air using one of their Oculus Rift VR headsets and bring it to life with a 3D printer, or help their autonomous robot learn new tricks by way of programming. Step into the worlds of coding and modeling, or tinker with a circuit board. Also available are etching and cutting technologies perfect for making decals, scrapbooks and personalized gifts. Although some imagination is required, no experience is necessary. The lab is open to everyone—both children and adults—and offers FREE “how-to” courses on all devices, along with more specialized programs. The devices are initially entry level, but the makerspace provides an incredible jumping-off point from which people can explore interests and develop basic skillsets they might later expand.
The innovation lab is open during regular library hours: 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily, including weekends (closed holidays). For

ater polo was one of the first team sports introduced into the Olympics in 1900 and it has come a long way since. Although not a complicated sport—two teams attempting to score points by throwing a ball into an opponent’s goal—it’s as intense as it is competitive... a true waterwarrior’s sport. The U.S. men’s team won silver at the Beijing Summer Olympics in 2008, narrowly missing the gold taken by a powerhouse Hungary team. The U.S. women’s water polo team is notably
strong as well. After winning silver in Beijing, they went on to win gold in the next two Olympic Games— London in 2012 and Rio de Janeiro in 2016. The U.S. women’s team also won the past two FINA Water Polo World Cup Tournaments. Become a water gladiator and join this fast-rising sport by going to Youth Water Polo Camp at the Camp Foster Aquatics Center from August 20 to 24 (Monday through Friday). Each day will start at 8 a.m. and last until 10 a.m. The focus of this camp is to
introduce water polo and water polo skills to children ages 9 to 17. Participants must be able to complete a non-stop freestyle 100 meter swim in 3 minutes or less and bring their own goggles, towel, sunscreen and hydration. Competitive onepiece swimsuits are required and participants with hair past their forehead must wear a swim cap. Interested? Registration will be accepted for Youth Water Polo Camp from August 1 to 17 for $75 per participant at mccsokinawa.com/aquatics.

eat the heat this summer by jumping rump-first into the cool and beautiful emerald green seas at ANA InterContinental Manza Beach Resort in Onna Village—the coolest venue for H20-related fun. Imagine, if you can, a vast inflatable playground afloat in the shallow pristine waters of the East China Sea anchored right off a picturesque beach. Manza Beach Resort features an ocean park with over 20 floating mini-islands of delight bobbing atop the fishfilled waters off the sandy coastline. Originally opened in 2014, Manza Beach Resort’s Ocean Park has grown into the largest of its kind in Japan— with the most beautiful locale by far. This year, by popular demand, the Ninja Warrior Course was opened to children and made even larger. The new layout is divided into sections A, B, C and D, which vary in difficulty. An actual kid’s course
still remains for smaller tykes, though. From mock-rock climbing and tower scaling to mini slides and jungle gyms, both children and kidsat-heart will be in a watery state of nirvana for the whole day—wearing the requisite personal flotation device (available for free) of course. Manza Beach Resort offers a special military discount on entry fees—¥1,500 for adults and ¥1,250 for kids ages 3 to
12. For more information, visit anaintercontinental-manza.jp/en/activity. MCCS Tours+ also offers a special discounted Manza Ocean Park Package, which includes a delicious lunch in one of the resort's restaurants for $37 (adults) and $19 (kids ages 3 to 12). For more information on this package, call 646-3502. Visit MCCS Tours+ online at mccsokinawa.com/tours.

Thomas Alan Smilie, GeorgeRudy/bigstock.com
The Guinness World Record for the largest bowling alley in the world is held by Japan’s Inazawa Grand Bowl, which houses a whopping 116 lanes.
owling is one of the greatest pastimes for many reasons, one being that it’s indoors with our best friend during these hot and humid days—the AC. It’s also a great activity for any get-together, since no one has to sit out and everyone can enjoy some fun, healthy competition. If you have a special occasion coming up that calls for a celebration,
and somehow you’re the one who got stuck making the plans, spare yourself the headache and let an MCCS Bowling Center do all the work with their Bowl-In-One party package. This is an all-inclusive package that features catering, shoe rentals and enough lanes for all your guests (up to 50). All you have to do is make a few simple choices, such as what you
and your guests want to eat. You get to pick the pizza and accompaniments. Some options are batter-fried shrimp, buffalo wings, vegetable tempura, potato salad, assorted tea sandwiches, coleslaw and much more. All choices come with coffee, iced tea and lemonade.
