kinawa’s emerald waters and azure skies are best viewed from high up. But instead of trekking up mountains and driving up long winding roads to get a glimpse of a nice view, there are simpler ways to get there. If you really want to get a bird’s eye view of Okinawa, paragliding will send you over 650 feet up in the air where there is nothing to do but to enjoy the breeze and the panorama below. Paragliding is offered on island through Blue Sky Okinawa, which has been taking people on trips to the clouds since 1980. Blue Sky Okinawa use pow-
inside
ered paragliders to send you up in the air. Trips take off from different points on the island depending on wind conditions, but you can fly any time of the year. Visit bluesky-okinawa.com for more details. While this is a perfect summer activity and novel way to cool off, it’s always wise to take proper precautions against heat-related illness. Drink plenty of water, wear loose, lightweight clothing and don’t forget the sunscreen. Visit MCCS Health Promotion at mccsokinawa.com/wellness for more information on how to stay safe in the heat.

o school has started again. What a drag, right? But the new school year always brings so many different opportunities, lessons and great memories. On the other hand, there’s homework, tests and cafeteria food. Whether you are excited about the new school year are dreading the months ahead, everyone is welcome to the Back to School Pool Party. With Okinawa’s blistering summer temperatures, the pools have been a popular destination during summer vacation, and though school has started, summer isn’t over yet. This free event will take place on August 29 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Camp Foster 50 meter pool and is open to the whole family. For more information visit mccsokinawa.com/wellness or find us on Facebook.

Junior Open Golf Championship
T
he best way to excel at golf is to start young. For some of us it’s too late to turn back the clock, but junior golfers have time on their side, and Taiyo Golf Club is hosting the perfect platform for some friendly competition for young golfers—the Junior Open Championship. On August 20 and 21, Taiyo Golf Club will host their second annual Junior Open Championship for golfers ages 7 to 18 island-wide. This tournament will be a two-day event consisting of 36-hole play and no handicaps. There will be three divisions for boys and girls, and crystal trophies will be awarded to the top three winners in each flight.
The tournament will include tee prizes, a putting challenge, excellent door prizes and lunch. Regis-
ter by August 18 for $70. For more information, contact Taiyo Golf Club at 622-2004/2006.

BB Cream – The secret to flawless skin
O Oyasumi nasai Good night. For details about FREE Japanese language classes, please call Marine & Family Programs–Resources at 645-2104/2106.
riginally created by dermatologists to treat skin after laser surgery, BB Cream, or Blemish Balm Cream, is now used for broader purposes because of its ability to seemingly eliminate skin imperfections, including sun spots, scarring and skin discoloration. It encourages skin restoration while concealing imperfections, and because it is light-weight it doesn’t clog pores. The dual action nature of BB Cream means that it not only hides imperfections, it heals them as well. For those who doubt, most stores
have a test tube available for each brand of BB Cream ready for you to test. Put a daub on your hand and rub it in. You will detect the difference immediately. You will notice that the area covered looks natural and radiant, and your skin does not feel bogged down at all. In fact, one of the properties of BB Cream is that it allows your skin to breath, so moisture doesn’t build up underneath. Companies like Estée Lauder, Christian Dior and Lancôme sell their own BB Cream anywhere from $50 to over $100. Lucky for you (and your bank
account), you live in Asia, the land of BB Cream. In Japan, it sells for ¥800 to ¥1,500. You can find BB cream on base in the Exchange on Camp Foster or in any of the off-base pharmacies and stores that carry skin care and cosmetic products. Augmenting your daily skin care regime with this all-inone product will save your time and your skin. By Ryan Anastoplus
