MCCS will be hosting this fest on Saturday, September 29 from 1 to 11 p.m. and Sunday, September 30 from 1 to 9 p.m. on the camp’s parade deck. This annual event welcomes all service members, their families and local Okinawans and Japanese to partake in a weekend of festival fun with favorite festival attractions for all ages, such as Fun Land’s rides and bouncers, game booths and more. Hungry revelers can delight in delicious cultural foods and food offerings from MCCS including sizzling burgers from Bulldogs, zesty selections from 305 Latin Bistro, succulent BBQ beef brisket and juicy chicken from Hickory House All-American BBQ, scrumptious pizza, and for adult patrons, refreshing beverages from Kanpai Lounge. See Kesha perform LIVE at Hansen Festival Saturday at 9 p.m. Hansen Festival is open to all DoD ID card holders and Japanese citizens. Attendees can try exquisite vintages from vendors all over the globe—like Italy, Argentina, the US (and not just from California), Australia and more. They can also pair their choices of wine with food carefully crafted by experts. Some options include seafood, pasta, carving stations, cheese, desserts and so much more.
This is a classy event, so the preferred dress is cocktail attire. Also, please be responsible; don’t drink and drive. Taxi and daiko servies will be available, as well as FREE transportation by MCCS bus shuttles ( the schedule can be found on page 4). These buses will run to and from BOC and other on-base locations.

Shuri Mid-Autumn Celebration
xperience the Ryukyu Kingdom in all its splendor at the Shuri Castle Mid-Autumn Celebration on September 22. This tour, which should be added to everyone’s bucket list, will be taking travelers south to see a splendid and realistic representation of the glory days of the Ryukyu Kingdom with performers in full costume. Although the exact date is unknown, it’s thought that the original Shuri Castle was built during the year 1453 AD, facing west towards China on a hill overlooking the East China Sea. Shuri Castle was truly a sight to behold; built surrounded by curved walls and contained various structures, open areas as well as sacred grounds or utaki—a common feature of all old Okinawan castles called gusuku. Shuri Castle not only had religious significance, it was also the focus of many artistic and cultural
activities, and the surrounding area housed many of the kingdoms greatest musicians, dancers, artisans and craftsmen. Take a trip back in time with Tours+! Ticket prices for the tour are $23 for adults, $16 for children ages
3 to 11 and FREE for children under the age of 3. Travelers should bring yen for food and purchases. For more information on this tour and more, call 646-3502 or visit MCCS Tours+ online at mccsokinawa.com/tours.

Taiyo Beat the Pros
C
Roderica Mathis
Tiger Woods made his first hole-in-one at the age of eight. The average golfer has a 12,500 to 1 chance of that happening.
an you beat Taiyo’s best golfers at a long drive, closest putt or closest-to-the-pin shot? Take on the challenge September 22 at Taiyo Golf Club. For just $5 per challenge, you have the chance to win and bring home some awesome prizes. Here’s how it works: Four staff professionals will each be waiting at different holes throughout the course. As golfers encounter our
staff, they’ll be able to opt in on one of four “Beat the Pros” challenges: two closest-to-the-pin shots on par 3s, one long drive and one closest putt. For instance, on a long hole, the goal will be to hit your drive longer than our pros. Even participants who fall short will be awarded a small consolation prize worth $5 retail. If you do win, however, you’ll be taking home a more expensive
prize, so it’s worth a shot! No harm, no foul. Just a fun, friendly game of golf. Join us! Beat the Pros will be running all day. No advanced signup is needed, but an information table will be located outside the Pro Shop on the day of the event. For more on Taiyo Golf Club, call at 622-2004/098-954-2004 or visit mccsokinawa.com/golf.
