Scuba Holiday Extravaganza

t’s that time of year for shopping and gift-giving, and Tsunami Scuba is going to help you save some hardearned bucks while doing so. Chances are you have a friend, coworker or family member who’s either already an avid diver or snorkeler, or aspires to be one on this gorgeous island. Perhaps you fit into this category and are looking to start dropping some hints about the underwater toys you hope to see under the tree. Either way, you better get them during Tsunami Scuba’s Holiday Extravaganza that continues December 1–4, 8–11 and 15–18 in stores island-wide where you’ll find the perfect gift for the diver or snorkeler in your life. Everything will be at least 10% off. A new diver would really love a brand-new high-tech regulator and perhaps a brand-new BCD. Winter diving offers some of the best visibility, so maybe a 5mm wetsuit is in order. Dad a photographer who dives? Get him an underwater camera

for documenting his adventures! Masks, fins, dive computers and even more will be on sale. With so much available, you’ll probably buy a few things for yourself as a reward for

being such a great Claus! For more details on the Tsunami Scuba Holiday Extravaganza, call 645-4206 or visit mccsokinawa.com/tsunamiscuba or facebook.com/mccsokinawa.scuba.

A Hickory Holiday

es, Thanksgiving turkey is good. And so are the post-Thanksgiving turkey sandwiches, the turkey casserole, the turkey stir-fry and the turkey burgers. However, those looking for a bit of relief from turkey for their Christmas holiday spread need look no further! This year, you can enjoy a “Hickory Holiday” featuring the famed hickory-smoked beef brisket that is dryrubbed and smoked for 16 hours with MCCS’ own secret blend of spices. Smoked beef brisket packages—$150 for a large serving that feeds 10–12 and $125 for a small serving for 8–10 people—are now available as a Holiday Meal-to-Go. You can also order enough smoked boneless pork butt to feed 8–10 friends or family for only $120. All Hickory Holiday Meals-toGo packages come with coleslaw, BBQ sauce, baked macaroni and cheese au gratin and a choice of pumpkin, pecan or apple pie. Orders must be placed 5 days

before the desired pick-up date and paid in full 2 business days prior to pick up. Order times are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. from Monday through Friday and all arrangements must be made with the club where the packages will be picked up.

Participating clubs include Kinser Surfside (637-3137), Ocean Breeze on Camp Foster (645-3666), Tengan Castle on Camp Courtney (622-9413) and The Palms on Camp Hansen (623-4375). For more information, visit mccsokinawa.com/clubs.

Kinoshita Circus

eginning December 16, join Tours+ to experience Japan’s oldest and most famous circus! The Kinoshita Circus, one of only two troupes left of its kind and scale in Japan, has been wowing crowds throughout Japan for 115 years. It's one of the oldest in the world and is the only circus in Japan to incorporate wild animals in their performance (there's only one other remaining circus in Japan, Pop Circus, which employs dogs). Kinoshita Circus travels exclusively in Japan with nine-meter-tall containers for transporting their wildlife—which includes zebras, white lions and an Asian elephant. Enjoy and marvel over the “Miracle Wild White Lions,” “Artistic Spectacle of the Double Flying Trapeze,” the “Sliding Tightrope,” the “Russian Aerial Acrobatic Trapeze,” the “Death Defying Motorcycle Globe,” wacky clowns and

much, much more. Tour dates are December 16 (9 a.m.–2:30 p.m.), December 23 (8 a.m.–1:30 p.m.) and December 29 (1:30–7 p.m.). Tour prices are $45 for adults, $28 for children (3–14) and FREE for

kids under 2 (no seat). For more information on these tours, call 646-3502. For a complete listing of December tours, visit mccsokinawa.com/tours.

Open Powerlifting Competition

D

Roderica Mathis

Eddie Hall set a world record in the deadlift at 500 kilograms (1,102.3 lbs.) in 2016. He also won the 2017 World’s Strongest Man Competition.

o you like to pick up heavy things and put them down? Then show off your strength and prove pound-for-pound who’s the strongest powerlifter on Okinawa at Camp Foster’s Open Powerlifting Competition. If you’re a pro, you already know that there’s nothing like stepping onto the lifting platform to compete. If you’re an unbelievably strong beginner, then this is the per-

fect way to get an honest critique of your lifting technique. Plus, you’re not a true powerlifter until you’ve been in a meet. The competition will be held on December 17 at 10 a.m. in the Community Center Auditorium. Those interested can register at any MCCS Athletic Facility for $20. The deadline is December 11 by 1 p.m. However, for $25 on the day of the event,

there will be one more chance to register from 8 to 9:15 a.m. This event is open to all participants island-wide. Individual awards will be given to the top three finishers in each weight class. Lifters must weigh in between 8 and 9:15 a.m. Also, there will be a mandatory brief at 9:30 a.m. For more information, call 645-4866 or e-mail adultsports@ okinawa.usmc-mccs.org.
