In the months ahead, beat the heat with visits to the New Orleans Museum of Art. Whether it’s evocative art, engaging programs, a film series, dance performances, cooking demonstrations, or great finds in our Museum Shop, there’s always something to be found beneath the shady oaks of the Besthoff Sculpture Garden or in the galleries where the thermostat remains comfortable year-round.

Our major summer exhibition, Bodies of Knowledge, opens JUNE 28 for a four-month run. Featuring eleven international contemporary artists who work with many different forms of language, this exhibition reflects on the ways that film, photography, dance, music, and art shape our cultural identities.
SEE THE SPECIAL EXHIBITION
In one installation by Iraqi artist Wafaa Bilal, titled 168:01, visitors are invited to fill bookshelves with donated books requested by Iraqi students whose libraries were looted more than 16 years ago following the collapse of the Ba’ath regime. By taking a blank white book off the shelf in exchange for an actual printed work, this austere bookshelf will become saturated with knowledge and color.
2
Bodies of Knowledge is organized by the New Orleans Museum of Art and sponsored by Pia and Malcolm Ehrhardt, Drs. Joy and Howard Osofsky, Margo and Clancy DuBos, Carol and Byron Crawford, Kenya and Quentin Messer, and The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
Find a shady spot in the newly expanded Besthoff Sculpture Garden and admire the view of sculpture set within the distinctive Louisiana landscape. The expansion features innovative architectural elements and showcases 27 new large-scale contemporary sculptures. The sculpture garden is free and open to the public.
