McDermott Cue has become one of the most recognized and respected names in the billiard world. In the early 1960s, Jim McDermott worked full-time as a sheet metal journeyman in Milwaukee, WI. In 1966, Jim’s passion for woodworking led him to meet cuemaker Rollie Welch. Jim worked closely with him for several years, during which he was able to perfect his craft. This led Jim to begin repairing pool cues in the basement of his home during his free time. In 1972, Jim transitioned from his sheet metal job to building cues full-time. He and Marilyn moved to a new home in Menomonee Falls, WI, where he opened a small cuemaking shop in his backyard. The first official line of McDermott cues, the M/R series, was introduced in 1975. It consisted of 10 cues that featured the now-famous McDermott interchangeable weight bolt system and flat-faced, wood-to-wood joints, which are still used by McDermott Cue to this day. Each McDermott cue included a lifetime warranty. Jim and Marilyn worked side by side to promote and grow the family business. Within a few years, the McDermott brand became a household name in the billiard industry. In the mid 1980s, Jim promoted and produced the McDermott Masters, an annual pro tournament that continued for more than a decade. One of his primary goals was growing the billiard industry. This included supplying McDermott cues for “The Color of Money,” a blockbuster film released in 1986 that featured Paul Newman and Tom Cruise. After the M/R series came the releases B, C, and D series. The introduction of transfer cues in the late 1980’s offered extremely detailed images that could not be duplicated with the traditional inlay method. This technique enabled Jim to apply extremely detailed images on cues at an affordable price. In 1988, McDermott transitioned its production method to CNC turning centers, 4-axis rotational milling capabilities and electro-static UV urethane finish. These enhancements raised the bar for cuemaking quality and consistency. Jim and Marilyn retired in the mid 1990s and relocated to Las Vegas. Their legacy in the billiard industry lives on today. His revolutionary methods and accomplishments were honored when he was inducted into the International Cuemakers Association Hall of Fame in 2011. Jim and Marilyn will truly be missed.

The G-Core’s carbon fiber extends the first 7 inches of the shaft. This stabilizes the front-impact area of the shaft for more control and reduces the inconsistencies found in traditional maple shafts.
Triple-Layer Design
The G-Core’s triple-layer design reduces vibration and minimizes shaft distortion. This increases radial consistency, which promotes enhanced accuracy and stability.
CT Technology
The G-Core utilizes our proprietary CT Technology (Carbon Tenon): a carbon fiber ferrule core that results in greater strength, efficiency and precision. Each Everest® laminated tip is individually tested for consistency, hardness and quality. It shapes like a hard tip, hits like a medium, but has the control of a soft tip. Everest® tips have 10 layers that include a red warning layer to indicate when it needs replacement.
Radial Consistency
Radial consistency is the shaft’s ability to perform the same way on every shot, regardless of it’s orientation. The carbon fiber core technology found in the G-Core and i-Shaft makes them the most radial consistent shafts on the market. Both shafts will consistently provide a straighter cue ball path, minimizing the need to compensate for spin and throw.

High-Performance Shaft Comparison
McDermott’s i-Shaft and G-Core each have their own unique core construction to implement the triple-layer carbon fiber technology. The diagrams below show the carbon fiber placement in the i-Shaft and G-Core.
The i-Shaft’s carbon fiber starts at the ferrule and continues through the entire shaft, making it the most radial consistent shaft on the market. This minimizes the inconsistencies experienced with an all-maple shaft. The i-Shaft also uses McDermott’s Tenon Tip Technology in which the ferrule has a tenon that fits inside of the carbon fiber core.
The G-Core’s carbon fiber starts at the tip and extends through the first 7 inches of the shaft. This gives it the accuracy and power benefits of a high-performance shaft, but with the familiar feel of a traditional all-maple shaft.

Tri-Core Butt Construction
Our cue construction process includes over 150 separate procedures. All forearms, handles and sleeves are handcrafted from the finest materials and most exotic woods from around the world. Our shafts are built with the finest Kiln-dried, hand-selected North American Hard rock maple and are turned 11 times for stability. McDermott cues come with a lifetime warranty against warpage and defects.
Forearm
Handle
The forearm 1 is adorned with intricate inlays and rings using the finest materials and exotic woods from around the world. All of McDermott’s inlays and rings are precision milled to within .001”. Each McDermott cue is customizable with over 30 premium paint and stain choices. The cues are then finished with an ultraviolet electrostatic 5-coat urethane finish.
The Tri-Core butt is constructed using three separate pieces of wood that are hand-glued and screwed to promote straightness over the life of the cue. The tenon 2 and pin 3 technology provides optimal balance for the butt of the cue. A double-pressed and sealed Irish linen or premium leather wrap 5 is applied over the handle 4 to provide incredible comfort and moisture control.
Sleeve
The sleeve 7 slides over the handle tenon 6 to complete the Tri-Core butt construction. It is glued and secured by the butt plate and interchangeable weight bolt system 8 before being adorned with intricate inlays and rings to compliment the design of the forearm. All McDermott cues are capped with a clover-embossed rubber bumper 10 to protect the butt plate 9 .

The Wood
McDermott hand selects only the finest woods from around the globe. The wood is aged for 18 to 24 months by alternately storing and machining each piece three times. This allows the perfect amount of moisture to escape, ensuring absolute straightness.

Patented Tip/Ferrule Technology
The tip features a “stinger” stem that projects downward through a hole in the center of the ferrule. On impact, the shock of the hit goes to the center of the tip and down the stinger stem, transmitting the impact directly to the center of the shaft. This results in a very efficient, precise hit.
Enormous Sweet Spot
The Stinger technology takes the hit energy to the center of the shaft, regardless of where you hit the tip. Our tip can be shaped flatter than a typical break cue’s tip. The flatter profile causes the Stinger tip to have a huge “sweet spot.” You can mishit and still get the result you intended.

McDermott’s Lifetime Warranty applies only to the original purchaser/ owner of the cue and must be purchased from an authorized McDermott dealer. McDermott Cue warrants its pool cues to be free of defects in material and workmanship, including warpage, for as long as the product is owned by the original purchaser/owner. McDermott does not warrant its product against:
• normal wear and tear including tip, finish, and wrap; • misuse, abuse or mishandling; • modification or improper maintenance performed by third parties • damage caused by exposure to extreme temperature or humidity.
All warranty claims must include the complete cue and are subject to evaluation at our facility prior to approval. Products that do not qualify for the McDermott Lifetime Warranty can be serviced by McDermott for a fee. To obtain warranty service on a McDermott product, return the product to an authorized McDermott dealer or directly to McDermott along with a copy of your original sales receipt.
