ILLINOIS STATE POLICE WINTER STORM ADVISORY Macomb, IL – With a new winter storm heading into the area, Illinois State Police District 14 would like to remind drivers to please SLOW DOWN and be cognizant of the weather and road conditions before venturing onto the roadways. The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm advisory covering a majority of the geographic region of District 14 (Fulton, Hancock, Henderson, McDonough and Warren Counties). They are predicting this storm will bring snow beginning Monday and continuing into Tuesday morning. The accumulation of snow is predicted to be between 3 and 8 inches. Gusty winds beginning Tuesday and continuing into Wednesday could lead to drifting snow on the roads and reduced visibility for drivers. A drop in temperature along with these winds will push the wind chill temperatures well below zero. The National Weather Service has indicated the wind chill temperature could reach as low as -40F on Wednesday night into

Thursday morning. Bridges and overpasses will begin to freeze before other parts of the roadway. Please plan ahead and adjust your driving speeds to coincide with the road conditions. “Just because it was dry and clear when you went to work this morning does not mean it’s safe to travel at those same speeds on the way home, after the snow has started,” said Illinois State Police District 14 Safety Education Officer, Trooper Dan Hill. If you must travel during this storm, again please SLOW DOWN, leave early to allow enough time to arrive at your destination safely, watch the weather and plan ahead. If you become stranded, STAY WITH YOUR VEHICLE. With the predicted wind chill temperatures placing the thermometer well below zero, you can risk great bodily harm or death if caught outside without the proper protection. Please be aware of IDOT snow removal operations and emergency vehicles which may be stopped assisting other motorists. Slow Down and Move Over when approaching these scenes. Not only is it the safe and responsible thing to do, It is also the law. ### more ### Add One\ Approaching Winter Storm Driving a vehicle is a task that brings with it certain levels of inherent danger.
