FROM THE PASTOR

Another Christmas?

Yes! And it should be good news for all, but sometimes for a few people, it does not carry happy memories but is a reminder of loss in some way. But Christmas is really about hope; God’s promise fulfilled in a baby born in a stable in Bethlehem. God wants mankind to have a hope of a future beyond this life and to live in His presence for eternity. If there are some sad memories you have associated with Christmas, this year you can release them and ask God to take away the pain. Forgive if you have to. Make amends if needed or re-establish a lost relationship. As Christians, the Christmas Season is more than food, presents, cards, trees and carols. It is about relationship and joy; with God and people. To Mary the angel said ‘rejoice’ when he came to tell her of God’s plan. To the shepherds the angel said ‘I bring you good tidings of great joy’ and when Mary visited her cousin Elizabeth while both were pregnant, the baby in Elizabeth’s womb (John the Baptist) leapt for joy at the presence of Jesus in Mary’s womb. What has changed in the intervening 2000 years? The baby was born, became a man and gave his life so we could be united in relationship with God. Christmas (the time of Jesus’ birth) should be of greater joy than the first occasion and if it isn’t, we’ve lost the plot. Let’s choose joy for this Christmas and be what God wants the world to experience. The best Christmas ornament is you reflecting God’s love and joy into the lives of those who are yet to know Him. If you are going away over Christmas, travel safe and be blessed. To all, we pray a wonderful Christmas and a grace of God for the coming year. Our love and blessings Pastors Rob & Denise

THE REASON WHY an original Mackay Christian Family Church production

Can you imagine a world without Christmas?

Without hope? Without gifts? Without love? Sadly, such a place exists, but thanks to the unexpected friendship between a teenage boy and an elderly woman, that world is about to be turned upside down. Come and see what happens when the blessings that Christmas brings becomes a reality not only in their lives, but in the lives of their whole community. This is a ‘must see’ and appeals to all generations in our Mackay community. Come and support the Spec Team with your laughter and applause. It’ll be a GREAT night!

CARECELL NEWS What?!

How can it already be the end and the beginning again? It feels like we just began but really, this year as a Care Cell Member, you have attended a Care Cell meeting about 42 times, you have been on duty to serve Morning Tea for a whole month at least once (maybe twice) and been friendly and attentive to all our new-to-church visitors. You spent two long hard days, a couple of nights, and 3 half days in a ‘Community Care’ T-shirt at 8 Park St with a paint brush in hand, blessing the kids from Kalyan House. At this year’s Family Picnic, you learnt to DoSaDo and heel and toe with the best of them. At the Great Clothing Give Away, you blessed many by giving away over 4000 items of clothing to people in need. You have probably consumed more sausages in bread than is really good for you. You have laughed and maybe cried with your Cell mates and been there to lend a hand if they needed. You have shared fresh revelation from your Life Journals, and sharpened one another as iron sharpens iron. You have read the Old Testament once and the New Testament almost twice.

S/

You are not the same person you were at the end of 2008 because Phillipians 1:6 says, “Being confident of this, He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Jesus Christ.” It has been a GREAT year and we will continue on together into the 2010, working to fulfil that which our Lord commands us: “Love God, Love each other.” Your Care Cell will be ending the year with a Christmas Celebration in the 2nd or 3rd week of Dec and resting for a month or so, but I know you’ll still be catching up with your Care Cell friends over your break. Writing this just gets me pumped about what could possibly happen in 2010 in Care Cells. Curious? Join a Care Cell today! Wishing you a fabulous Christmas and a blessed New Year, Ps Jill

CHILDREN’S MINISTRY NEWS To fulfil the Great Commission we need to: “AIM LOWER, THINK SMALLER”!! As an adult we become set in our ways, so if a person has not come to know God while they are a child, they most likely will never follow Christ. So what are we doing? We need to aim lower and think small. Children from grade 1 through to grade 7 need us to share the Gospel with them. Will you take up the challenge and make time to share Christ with children in the schools? It cannot be done without you; the doors are open, will you come and help? If so, please contact me and I will be more than happy to help you on your way. Cheryl Greer – Children’s Ministry Coordinator.

Teddy Bear Club 1-4 year olds PLEASE NOTE: There will be no TBC on December 20th, 27th & January 3rd but it will resume on the 10th of January, 2010.

‘Playgroup Mates Playgroup’ meets every second Wednesday at John Breen Park, 10 - 11:30am. This is a casual get together, often with a planned activity for the children to do. Open to children of all ages.

Playgroup fits in with school terms, closing over the Christmas holidays and resuming late January / early February when the school term commences. Contact Priscilla Lister on 49554171 or email her via the church website if you need any more information. Hope to see you there.

CHILDREN’S MINISTRY NEWS (continued) DECEMBER 2009

6TH - Presentation Day for Teddy Bear Club and King’s Kidz. On the 13th December, we will have Kidsjam. This will be for children in prep through to grade 7. All are welcome to come to the Blue Room to make some Christmas craft. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the parents for your support during the year. Your children are a very precious gift from God and we greatly appreciate the honour to be able to speak into their lives. Andrew Shepherd shares in his book ‘David Club’ that if we are enthusiastic about God then we should be enthusiastic about what He is enthusiastic about. I would like to encourage you that over this Christmas break, while we do not have Children’s Ministry running, that you share your enthusiasm about God to your children, inspire them and encourage them about Kingdom business. Children’s Ministry will recommence on the 24th January, 2010. Have a wonderful and blessed Christmas.

This year at Schoolies Airlie Beach, Red Frogs Chaplaincy has teamed up with the Queensland Police Force to start a new competition for school leavers called “Blow Zero”. Each night a competition was held at Schoolies Central Red Frog Stage and one schoolie had the chance to win a major prize. In this case, Guitar Hero: World Tour. A police officer then got the schoolie to blow into a breathalyser and if the schoolie could blow a ZERO on the test and prove that they have been partying safe alcohol free, they then won that prize on offer! If they couldn’t blow zero, then later on that night, there was a redraw.

Red Frogs thanks Harvey Norman Computers for partnering with us to promote safe partying.

Harvey Norman Computers also donated to Revolution Youth’s “Mackay’s Biggest Pool Party”, which was a night to simply give the youth of Mackay a fun night out in a drug and alcohol free environment. A winner was drawn by door ticket. Rev Youth would also like to thank Barry and Harvey Norman Computers for their generous support.

THIS MONTH @ IGNITE

4th December – “Friday Night Life” at Metro Market 11th December – “Ignite Church” at 21 McAlister St 18th of December is the Ignite ‘Bling Bling Pool Party’ which will be held at the Lanai Hotel next to Metro Market. Entry is free. Come dressed in your ‘poshest’ clothes.

THANK YOU...

We just want to express a massive thank you to all who were involved with Airlie Beach Red Frogs. This year was our best! We saw over 80 volunteers unify to serve over 2500 Schoolies. We saw God move in such an amazing way during the week. We held our very first ‘Schoolies Church’ on Thursday night, the 26th of November. It was unreal as we saw Schoolies making decisions for Jesus. This trip was a massive success. The Whitsunday Regional Council said that they would not be able to run their Schoolies event without us. How great is it that the Church is mobilized to do impacting things within our community!

F.A.Q’S

?

HAVE YOU EVER BEEN STUCK WONDERING HOW TO DO SOMETHING OR HOW SOMETHING WORKS, RUNS, OPERATES (ALL OF THE ABOVE!) WELL WE THOUGHT WE’D HELP YOU OUT WITH THE ‘HOW’S & WHAT’S’ OF SOME AREAS IN MCF!

How do I order a CD/DVD of a service? CD/DVD Order forms are available in the foyer of the auditorium. This form is an A5 yellow form and all details you will need to order are on the form. The form is then given to the deacon on duty to be forwarded to the MCF Office. If you are rostered onto Children’s Ministry you will automatically receive a copy of that week’s morning service. The CD/DVD should then be available the following weekend in the foyer. Payment would be preferred at the time of order. How do I become a member of MCF? Membership forms are available in the foyer or by contacting the Church Office. Church Membership is done on Family Sundays. To become a church member you should be over 18 years of age and have been regularly attending MCF for over 3 months.

How do I get water baptised or have my child dedicated? The forms for these two wonderful events are available in the foyer or by calling the church office. WATER BAPTISMS are done in Cell or in the Youth & Young Adult Ministries regularly. However, if you are not part of these areas, it can be done on a Sunday after church or by arrangement with a Pastoral Team Member offsite. MCF has several church members with pools that can be used and on other occasions, the beach has been popular for this to take place. Most BABY DEDICATIONS and water baptisms (done at church) are done on Family Sundays.

16

S

?

How do I make an appointment with a member of the Pastoral Team? Appointments with the Church Pastoral Team are made by contacting the Church Office on 4963 1155. These appointments are booked by a member of the administration team, and are subject to staff availability. Also please be prepared with the subject (counselling, Care Cells, desire for involvement in Church life etc.) of your appointment and when you would be available before you call. PLEASE NOTE that appointments for Ps Rob & Denise can only be made by contacting Mia, their PA in the Church Office. What is the MCF website? www.mcf.org.au How do I join a Care Cell? Contact Ps Jill Hyatt or Jacquie Stubbs in the Church Office on Tuesday, Thursday and Fridays. These two ladies will put you in contact with a care cell leader in your area or that would be suitable for you. Does MCF have a New Christian Course or something similar? Know What You Believe is run in care cell and can be run individually and in class situations if the need arises. Please contact the Church Office to register or to get more details on this course. MCF also runs several other courses during the year. Please keep an eye out in the Bulletin for notices of when these courses are running or listen to announcements on Sundays at Church. These courses include; Valiant Men, Parenting Tools & Marriage Enrichment. A ‘New Friends Luncheon’ is held twice a year for people that are new to the Church. What is MCC? Mackay Christian College is an 1100 student school that was commenced in 1984 by Ps Rob Booth-Jones and the school Principal, Ps Craig Murison. SK S TA N O I MISS

DATE P U CE FOR

CHANGE A LIFE THROUGH LEROY SPONSORSHIP

At Mackay Christian Family, we encourage our congregation to be involved in sponsoring children overseas. As part of this, we support John & Yolande Leroy who serve in Indonesia. The Leroy’s started a children’s foundation in Sanggau, which now houses over 200 young people from the villages of the area, who without this foundation, would be uneducated. Recently, we have found ourselves with several children that need sponsoring and we ask for you to pray about taking on one of these beautiful kids. Please contact the Church office on 49631155 if you wish to sponsor one of these children and a photo and their information will be sent to you. The office can also arrange for whichever payment option you wish to use.

28

THE FOUNDATION The Foundation in Sanggau was started by John & Yolande Leroy in 1996 under the covering of New Hope Ministries. In this ministry, John & Yolande have expressed God’s love and their own, to children in a very tangible and helpful way. This has been done by giving the children they take into the foundation a chance to have a school education which otherwise would be denied to them due to economic and geographical reasons. This Damai Sejahtera (meaning Eternal Peace) Foundation provides accommodation for children from the villages with basic care, including food, health care, additional training skills and spiritual involvements. The Foundation houses children from ages 4-6yrs, for kindergarten and then 6 years and over, through their primary & high school years. The foundation’s facilities have been paid for by the donations of loving Christians with many children being supported through regular giving. John and Yolande have shown much love for the people of Kalimantan, Indonesia by their 18 year involvement and personal sacrifice. You can share in this love by sponsoring a child in the Foundation and also by becoming a regular missions-giver. This is a great investment of your finance and an opportunity to participate in the harvest.

29

WHY SPONSOR?

Without the opportunity for education, these children are destined for a hard life of poverty and subsistence living. Education opens doors of opportunity to achieve their potential and to rise from the hardship that has held previous generations. So much that we take for granted is denied the tribal people of Kalimantan, but with your help, hope comes to these wonderful people. It costs us so little but makes a great difference to those who are sponsored. The sacrifices that John & Yolande have made are great, but they do it with joy because they see wonderful fruit for their labour.

30

SPONSOR TODAY

Sponsorship is available to all the children who attend The Foundation at a cost of $42AUD a month or $10 per week. All money donated is tax deductible. To register your intention to sponsor a child from The Damai Sejahtera Foundation, please ring Katharine MacDonald at the Church Office. Your information will forwarded to John & Yolande who will issue us with the name, photo and details of a child. This will be then forwarded onto yourself. You should commence payment once we confirm receipt of your registration form and payment can be made using one of the following methods. Direct Deposit to the MCF bank account BSB: 084 792 - Acct: 694818914 - Ref: Leroy Child & your last name. If this does not all fit, abbreviate the Leroy Child to LC or something similar.

Credit Cards, Cheques or Money Orders are to be made payable to Mackay Christian Family Church. Please ensure you include ‘Leroy Child Sponsorship’ & your name with the cheque. If you want to have your credit card charged monthly then also indicate this on the Authority form available from the MCF Office or Church Foyer. Enclose the money in an envelope and put in a Sunday offering. Please ensure that you include ‘Leroy Child Sponsorship’ and your name on the outside of the Envelope. At the end of each financial year, a tax deductible receipt will be sent to you, so please remember to keep your contact details up to date with the MCF Office. Rev. John & Yolande Leroy Email: jpyleroy@hotmail.com Web: www.newhopeministries-kalimantan.com
