Curiosity may be the most valuable characteristic a human being is able to preserve from their childhood even up to adulthood. Again and again, I myself love to be surprised by my environment while I am walking – or better: cycling – through the world with eyes wide open. Because like a hiker who has decided to explore nature step by step, I have decided to spend my life on a bicycle already at an early point in time. Slow enough and in direct interaction with my complete surroundings – but also fast enough to reach more distant destinations as well: My bike is much more than just my means of transport through life. In fact, it is a new door well worthwhile walking through every new day. Much awaits us behind this door. For instance, when I was travelling through Tibet I was able to gather as many fascinating experiences as during each bike tour along the Camino de Santiago. Not to mention the stories of all those people I met on each journey. But one’s own curiosity does not necessarily reveal itself just only on the way to distant destinations. Just a stone’s throw away from my office, the Swabian town of Weil der Stadt preserves the story of a man who first saw the light of day in 1571 and who influenced this world in a lasting way: Johannes Kepler. Johannes Kepler was one of the great minds of his time. Thanks to him, we know that everything in our planetary system circles around the sun. But Kepler has added something else to history which I indeed like to confirm day after day: “Nature loves simplicity, nature loves unity.” I am captivated by these words – because they are true. Nature does not need complicated structures to inspire us. In fact, its complexity is for sure truly fascinating. But nature does already inspire with small and simple things. Since 1976, I have been heading a company which follows exactly this natural principle: CENTURION. So what would be more obvious than defining our bikes by the aforementioned simplicity? Of course not in terms of technology – because on this level, our experienced R&D experts are quite far from being satisfied with just simple things. But with regard to appearance and character. Because especially an excellent bike clearly should not and does not have to hide itself behind a veil. In fact, a clear and reduced design already shows at very first sight that quality is not defined by masquerade. You will see: The CENTURION model year of 2015 can be comprehended in the best sense of Kepler. In this spirit: be curious! Yours, Wolfgang Renner

The Fascination of Cycling Everything for the magic moment Since CENTURION was founded in 1976, the bike world has seen extensive further development: Steel was replaced by aluminium, aluminium was followed by carbon. Road bikes got lighter and lighter, mountain bikes more powerful, suspension ubiquitous. Bikes for everyday use became more and more versatile. Not to forget the comparatively young arrival to the family: electric bikes, which now enable even more potential riders go out and enjoy two-wheeled fun. Because exactly this counts whenever someone gets in the saddle: pleasure. Anyone who has ever ridden a bike knows it: this single magic moment hiding somewhere in the next downhill, beyond the next turn or at the seemingly unreachable top of a pass. But this moment can also be found during daily commuting to the office, on the way to the market or on family outings in the countryside. Because the revelation of a little magic can not be appointed to a certain place â&#x20AC;&#x201C; it just waits for the contented rider on the right bike. Therefore, one thing is certain: this moment should not be missed. So there is a good reason for the fact that we at CENTURION are working hard every day to offer you the bike which equips you optimally to experience this moment â&#x20AC;&#x201C; starting with our Youth & Kids bikes which show already the youngest ones that cycling can provide a lot of fun instead of just being a means of transport. TEAM CENTURION VAUDE Growing success with each season Wherever our TEAM CENTURION VAUDE is found on the starting lists of Europe’s marathons and multiday races: A podium position seems to be almost sure for the likeable athletes around Markus Kaufmann. In July 2014, the German Marathon Champion of 2012 and his teammate Jochen Käß were able to repeat their 2013 triumph at the renowned Craft BIKE Transalp. Since then, at the latest, one thing is certain: The locally deeply rooted team from Lake Constance guarantees success also far beyond these borders. Thereby the marathon squad may be described as a prime example for how successful sponsoring in sports can look like. Since CENTURION became material supplier and main sponsor in season 2011, it has been proven several times that “horse and rider” chime together optimally. Successes like the 2012 German Marathon Champion title (Markus Kaufmann), the triumphs at the prestigious 2013 and 2014 BIKE Transalp (Markus Kaufmann, Jochen Käß) or the stage win and several other top results at the Absa Cape Epic 2014 (Markus Kaufmann, Jochen Käß) shine far beyond the German borders. But at the same time, especially the character of the TEAM CENTURION-VAUDE strengthens the brand. Initially resulting from a voluntarily motivated commitment, all riders of the marathon squad are part-time competitors only. In addition, the team entertains a “second string” on amateur level whose members ride and race on CENTURION in an equally successful and good-natured way. Dedicated, likeable, successful: the TEAM CENTURION VAUDE could not represent us any better. We want to say “Thank you!”

Design & Development Optimally matched for a new bike There are some things in life where looking good is sufficient. For instance, a floor lamp is already considered to be a good one if it is simply able to keep an upright position and illuminate a light bulb at the same time. Anything else is just design. But other things first of all have to function optimally and only secondly benefit from an elegant appearance. The shape of a bicycle is predetermined roughly, while its function – depending on category – is defined clearly. We at CENTURION are deeply convinced that function and design have always to go hand in hand to guarantee that your individual dream bike delights you maximally already before the very first mile. We like tackling this demanding balancing act again and again, and we are officially rewarded for it: with reliable regularity, design awards and convincing tests results from bike magazines do manifest our efforts in every single aspect. For instance, the magazine “BIKE” has awarded our race hardtail Backfire Carbon Ultimate.27 (newly developed for 2014) with the highest grade “super” (BIKE 10-2013) in the first individual test already. And also the brightest star in the 2015 road-sky shines as a title winner from the outset: our brand-new Gigadrive Disc is on its way to your bike retailer with the design award “Focus Open in Gold” already. Thereby our R&D experts pay great attention to the fact that the combination of faultless function and appealing looks must not be a basic question of one’s budget: already in the entry sector, CENTURION utilizes well-proven materials and production technologies which always guarantee long-term riding fun. For instance, already our “Comp” and “Pro” aluminium frames trust in a 6061 alloy which combines low weight with convincing

stiffness. And thanks to the special manufacturing processes of the “Technoforming System”, individual tubes are provided with specific shapes which match form and function optimally as well as always according to the respective intended purpose. Therefore, CENTURION offers exciting designs in all price ranges. To ensure you long-time pleasure on your CENTURION also under challenging circumstances, we pay maximal attention to controls which are relevant with regard to quality and safety of our bikes. Thus only partners and suppliers working reliably according to our specifications are involved in the production process. In addition, each concept is inspected by us up to completion – together with external experts as well as on our own in-house test stations in compliance with the strict “tour” standard recognized throughout the bike industry. Thereby international norms and reference standards must not only be fulfilled but even be exceeded in almost all cases. By the way: from the upcoming season 2015 on, especially the model names of our mountain bikes reveal even more clearly what is hidden behind the respective indications. Up to four frame qualities (e. g. “Carbon” or “Race”) as well as the specific model (e. g. “Team” or “3000”) inform you about the level of configuration. Separated by a full stop, the wheel size of a 29”, 27.5” bike or classic 26” version is shown. CENTURION 2015 MTB, Road, E-Bike: 2015 will be exciting! Robust bikes for youngsters and kids, impressive MTB hardtails and full suspensions, sophisticated road and cross models, excellent e-bikes for riding on and off the road, specific women’s versions: again in season 2015, CENTURION presents a versatile product program. No matter if you ride as an athlete, if you desire to enrich your everyday life with a bike, or if you want to make it part of an active leisure time: the 2015 CENTURION portfolio offers the right option for sure. Especially full suspension fans, ambitious road racers and off-road e-bikers can look forward to exciting novelties. Especially our electric full susser Numinis.E stands out from the 2015 CENTURION novelties on several levels. The elaborately constructed E-MTB was introduced at the leading trade fair EUROBIKE in 2013 as a first prototype, but we took our time to finally present the best possible outcome. Now it is available in three configurations. Besides the reliable Bosch “Performance” motor, first of all the intelligent chassis kinematics characterizes this 27.5” full-suspension bike. In the course of many single steps, our R&D experts have identified a rear end concept with a virtual pivot point (VPP) to be optimal for this kind of bike. All in all: despite its motor unit, our Numinis.E is a genuine mountain bike – and not a pedelec which pretends to be an MTB. But it is not only the construction which provides the Numinis.E with its convincing qualities: also the extremely detailed realization makes an important contribution in this regard. The integrative design is complemented by internal cable routing. In addition, both available model versions feature components which make them suitable for completely unrestricted singletrail fun. Therefore, our Numinis.E as a future-oriented bike concept is clearly characterized by the historic genes of MTB pioneer CENTURION.

Inspired design as the expression of modern

The prototype version of our Gigadrive Disc was originally introduced at EUROBIKE 2013 as well. This road machine with disc brakes is now an established part of our 2015 line-up. This “road bike 2.0” enters the competition with the demand to harmonize classic sophistication and sportiness with technological achievements of the present day. Therefore, the new Gigadrive Disc trusts on one hand in a traditional design language. But on the other hand, it also utilizes innovative ideas such as internal cable routing, which convinces not only in visual respects. In addition, there are wide tires (up to 28 mm) for maximum comfort during daily cycling. And most importantly, there are disc brakes. The Gigadrive’s frame has been adapted adequately for this purpose by our R&D experts. Also the fork (an in-house development) with its 15 mm thru-axle and its hydraulic brake tube (internally routed as well) implements the “disc” idea in a consequent way. In doing so, our new Gigadrive Disc combines many aspects of traditional and modern road riding at a completely new level.

technology: The new star in the CENTURION road-racer sky is named Gigadrive Disc and is indeed a particularly bright one – so bright that it has already been prized with the design award “Focus Open” in gold in the spring of 2014. Many steps ahead For Season 2015, the aluminium version of our Numinis.29 has been re-engineered in many impressive respects. For instance, the chassis now features 120 mm travel at the rear end and a 130 mm fork. Also, small details like the revised cable routing prove successfully that form and function are always interdependent.

The aluminium versions of the mountain bike Numinis have been refined on the already established basis of our 29” full suspension. To match the now even higher demand for riding singletrails and other technically challenging terrain, the new Numinis for 2015 offers 120 mm travel at the “Float Link” rear end and mighty 130 mm at the fork. Thereby our competent R&D department has succeeded in retaining the drivetrain neutrality of the Numinis (which is especially important for sporty riders) while sensitivity and capability of the chassis have been effectively increased. Elaborate detailed solutions such as the revised internal routing of the cables/tubes show on a small scale how much the newcomer has grown so far. Because also in 2015, this model is considered to be the interpretation of the optimal tour/trail bike from Germany’s alpine-crossing pioneer.

Virtual Pivot Point In the case of the VPP chassis (Numinis.E), R&D engineers have more freedom and thereby additional and better options for adapting the wheel trajectory to their fundamental performance objective. Sensitivity and braking neutrality can be improved.

Fully Chassis The optimal solution for each challenge For R&D engineers, full suspension bikes are something like the haute couture for the world of fashion: each creation is measured against the best of their class. This field reveals who is able to implement theoretical requirements optimally and appropriately for the respective target groups. Again and again, the biggest challenge is the almost impossible demand for “the“ perfect chassis: Maximal sensitivity while the system must not bob up and down while pedalling. If trail full susser, All-Mountain or E-MTB: The aim remains the same, but the path to it is always different. In 2015, CENTURION still relies on a single pivot with linkage rear end (“Float Link”) for the Numinis.29 (carbon/aluminium version: 100/120 mm rear travel) and the No Pogo.27 (145 mm). The clearly more complex chassis of our new electric full suspension Numinis.E features a virtual pivot point (VPP) to provide the bike with a maximally authentic MTB character. Important for the understanding of each full-suspension chassis: the always interdependent and complementary interaction between the kinematics of the rear end and the actual shock. For instance, it would be quite an oversimplification to declare that a bike convinces with excellent sensitivity but still bobs too much during pedalling while only the utilization of a platform shock resp. lockout calms down the system. Our intention here is that the chassis as such performs with the desired sensitivity and provides the basic suspension travel. At the same time, our engineers utilize the right shock by the right supplier to support the intended characteristics – or rather to ensure that the suspension travel can indeed be used completely.

There is no easy answer for optimal chassis kinematics. Depending on the field of riding and the desired character of a full suspension, one and the same basic idea can be interpreted differently and thereby lead to an optimal result.

Lady Bikes: EVE An optimal framework for “her“ There are less and less spheres of life which do not differentiate explicitly between the genders. But in quite some cases, it surely is right to question whether the background may be only a clever marketing concept just aiming at higher sales figures. But especially in the “man-centric” world of sports, women should insist on specific products if they actually take existing anatomical differences into consideration. Regarding women’s cycling products, this means that the purely decorative modification of bikes is not enough. Instead, women should be able to ride their own bicycles if they wish so. Although there might possibly be alternatives. Of course every woman is able to ride a unisex bike – provided that the geometry is adequate. But as small as the (anatomic) differences between women and men might be: they do exist. A slightly narrower handlebar, specific saddles and grips, adjustable shift and brake levers or suspension elements adapted to lower riders’ weights are good basic approaches. But CENTURION still goes one important step further: the MTB model versions of our EVE series base on geometrically adapted Backfire frames which have been modified at two decisive points. The EVE top tube is shorter (10 mm at frame size 41) while the head tube is longer (also 10 mm at frame size 41). This thought-through combination results in a more upright seating position and therefore in a safer cycling experience. In addition, the EVE top tube features a visible curve at its rear third – for a distinctly and perceptibly lower standover height which especially makes unplanned stops less frightening. In Season 2015, almost all CENTURION EVE family members trust in the wheel size standard of 27.5“. Our so far made experiences over the last model years have clearly shown that small and middle-sized frames turned out to convince specifically with this realization. Nevertheless with the “smaller” 26” bikes of the EVE entry class, we are still offering well-priced sporty MTBs which provide women riding occasionally with the advantages of CENTURION bikes.

Shorter top tube Longer head tube

Compared with a Backfire.27 aluminium frame of size 41, the top tube of the EVE model is shorter by 10 mm (560 vs. 570 mm). At the final count, the EVE geometry therefore becomes “relaxed” which is reflected in the “stack-to-reach” ratio of 153 %.

In direct comparison to the underlying Backfire.27 aluminium frame, the head tube of the EVE model is longer by 10 mm (110 vs. 100 mm). In this way, a higher cockpit position for a more upright seating position is achieved without spacers or riser bars already.

Curved top tube The last third of the EVE top tube shows a clearly different design when compared to the linear top tube of the Backfire.27. This curve ensures a lower standover height and therefore minimizes the “disturbing top tube factor” whenever both feet touch the ground.

Full Suspension Cleverly constructed for challenging tasks In Model Year 2015, our Numinis is the CENTURION embodiment of a marathon/tour bike more than ever: superior, comfortable and with top tracking stability due to the big 29“ wheels – especially the new aluminium frame with now 120 mm rear suspension travel meets all demands for singletrail riding fun on challenging tours. The more marathon-oriented carbon version still offers 100 mm travel at the rear. And with optional 100 mm instead of 120 mm travel at the front*, it can also be recommended as an ultra-fast race rig.

Our No Pogo is and remains the “all-time-classic” of the CENTURION program. Already in 1996, it tackled the trails as the first full suspension bike without any disturbing and annoying drivetrain influences (a.k.a. “pogo”). Since then, the No Pogo has been refined several times in multiple ways. For the 2015 season, CENTURION interprets this classic as a 145 mm All-Mountain with 27.5” wheels plus adequately adapted geometry and kinematics.

Numinis.29 More travel for more trails „Tour“ – a little word with big claims. To be able to convince in this category, a bike has to have a lot of virtues. Thereby it is initially not important if the type of riding favoured by you shall be local gravel roads, low mountain ranges in Germany or the high playground of the Alps. The requirements towards your marathon/tour bike basically remain the same, even though this category increasingly adopts “trail bike” aspects for more playful, technical riding. Because what you are looking at here are bikes with enough suspension travel to tackle rocks, roots and other edgy terrain in an adequately competent way. In addition, the chassis should be as sensitive as possible but must also feature efficient and pedal friendly kinematics. Moreover, the bike should not be too heavy – because you might be collecting quite a number of altitude metres on your tour. Excellent handling especially on more challenging passages round off the concept. Also in 2015, we therefore interpret the optimal tour bike as a 29er full susser. 27.5 All Mountain

No Pogo.27 All mountains, one bike In the last years, almost no other MTB category has seen more development than All-Mountain. With the demand to be “one bike for everything”, an AM full suspension has to convince with no less than plain and simple omnipotence. Because someone who says “All-Mountain” actually means exhausting uphills, flowy trails and challenging downhills at the same time. Therefore, AM riders – even more than marathon/tour riders – need a bike which combines a maximally sensitive and also tough chassis with still acceptable total weight. The downhill handling must be playful but always predictable. Furthermore, quality and configuration must not only compensate rough riding but have to support this deliberately and easily. In short: the abbreviation AM might as well mean “all-mighty”. With our No Pogo.27 (already completely redesigned for 2014), all these demands towards a modern All-Mountain bike are realized consequently. Our All-Mountain rig benefits from its long history and the corresponding experience of our R&D experts. Because the No Pogo was no less than the very first MTB which eliminated annoying drivetrain influences during pedalling already in 1996. In 2015, our All-Mountain fully is fitted with 27.5” tyres for equally convincing traction/grip up- and downhill. The matching “Float Link” chassis with “Full Travel Use” provides 145 mm of rear suspension travel remaining superbly neutral if required. In addition, there are thru-axles (front and rear), internal cable routing (also for the dropper-seatpost) and the option to retrofit a chain guide. Therefore, our 2015 No Pogo.27 points out especially one aspect: if you pedal all the way up, you might as well have the most fun on your way down as possible.

Big-wheelers were regarded as a “trend” only for a short time. Rather quickly, 29 inches have almost become the standard in the hardtail sector. Competitors like the marathon racers of our TEAM CENTURION-VAUDE value the high traction/grip as well as the improved running smoothness. But also occasional and recreational cyclists benefit from the virtues of a 29” ride. One carbon and two aluminium frames, 13 model versions.

Wheelsets beyond the classic 26” offer various advantages such as more traction/grip, running smoothness and comfort. Classic 26” or aspiring 27.5”? Versatile and robust partner for every day or clearly sporty MTB with “forward drive”? But the actual question is: EVE – yes or no? Also in MY 2015, the CENTURION program provides women who ride with lady-specific models optimized in numerous respects. Backfire.29 Hardtails at their best Very quickly, 29ers have established themselves especially as an integral part of the MTB hardtail world. Not only ambitious racers favour the well-proven advantages of big wheels. Also beginners and occasional riders are put in the position to benefit from the specific characteristics of a 29er hardtail. Because besides offering more comfort, the large wheel circumference provides increased traction/grip – helpful on uphill passages as well as during fast downhills. Together with the extended wheelbase, this also results in higher running smoothness. For Season 2015, our successful 29er hardtail Backfire is presented in three impressive variants. The agile, ultra-fast, light, and stiff carbon racer is regularly thrashed by the Marathon riders of our TEAM CENTURION VAUDE, dashing from success to success. At the same time, the aluminium versions “Race” and “Pro” both expand the range with very attractive versions which are not afraid of any challenge – be it everyday cycling or racing purposes. Like the “Race” aluminium frame, the carbon frame with its low weight of just 1150 g* is headed by a tapered steerer for maximum stiffness. The bottom bracket convinces with superb stiffness for maximum forward drive, too. A 12 mm thru-axle at the rear wheel, Post Mount brake mounts and tube cross-sections optimized for each frame size characterize our Backfire Carbon.29 as a true premium racer for every rider. Both aluminium versions trust in the post-mount standard as well as quick-release axles in the rear. Optional kickstand and carrier installations at the frame** expand the field of application by the factor “everyday use”. Also in this regard, a CENTURION 29er convinces completely with comfort and safety.

Backfire.27 The mighty middle Already in their just second year as part of the well-proven CENTURION MTB program, the carbon and aluminium versions of our 27.5“ hardtail Backfire.27 have established themselves at a clearly convincing position. The wheel diameter is bigger (by 25 mm) than classic 26” versions but smaller (by 38 mm) than 29” variants. Therefore, these bikes also called “650B” are truly the “mighty middle”. Thanks to their bigger wheels, the Backfire.27 rolls over obstacles noticeably more easily. In addition, they offer higher traction/grip and delight with increased comfort – also because a lower tire pressure is necessary in comparison to 26” models. However, a 27.5” bike shows a similar sharp handling like a 26” MTB because its wheels are considerably smaller than those of a 29er. This is of real advantage especially with regard to sprints. With their outstandingly light carbon frames contributing only 960 g* to the total weight, the five available models of the CENTURION Backfire.27 family range at the top of this category. Our Backfire Carbon.27 is guided by a tapered steerer for maximal precision and features an equally stiff bottom bracket for maximal forward drive. In addition, it brings along cutting-edge technologies like Post Mount brake mounts, a 12 mm thru-axle and internal cable routing. The aluminium versions based on the “Race” resp. “Pro” frames trust in the post-mount standard as well, but they fix their rear wheels with quick-release axles. Optional carrier and kickstand installations provide the aluminium variants with maximal suitability for daily use.

Backfire A timeless classic Since CENTURION introduced the “Country” as the first German mountain bike in 1982, 26” continued to be the ultimate wheel size standard for decades. Regardless for what an MTB was designed for: XC-racing, Downhill, Marathon and everyday riding – they all trusted in the original. In the days of 29” and 27.5” bikes, 26” versions might seem to be outdated. But far from it. None of the good arguments which have been speaking in favour of 26” for decades could actually be reversed downright spontaneously. Though, another target group has now started concentrating its attention increasingly on the hardtails of the CENTURION Backfire family. And perfectly appropriate to this, the MTB classic has dressed up for Season 2015. With one of the two available aluminium frames, the members of the Backfire family especially recommend themselves as reasonably priced youth and entry bikes. The “Pro” and the “Comp” frame both trust in standards well-proven countless times – such as quick-release rear axles, head tubes strictly in 1 1/8”, and BSA bottom brackets (no press-fit) with Shimano cranksets. The brakes present themselves totally up-to-date: three of the four 2015 Backfire variants are bridled with powerful hydraulic disc brakes which work reliably concerning all terrain and weather conditions. Thereby the “Pro” frame features the Post Mount standard while the “Comp” version relies on IS2000. Our Backfire 50 and 40 can be equipped with a carrier as well as a kickstand. The same applies to the Backfire 30 which features rim brakes and is optionally available as a completely RTA-compliant variant – making this CENTURION bike the perfect partner for the way to school.

EVE Just feeling good Modern marketing strategists are real rascals: They try to convince us permanently that there is an amazing product which supposedly matches us even better than anything we already possess. But how often do enticing product promises disguise just a new version of always one and the same again? But what if they are proved to be right after all? What if the new bike e. g. really enables women to experience more cycling fun – and not only due to its optics? For example thanks to the fact that it features a geometry which ensures that “safety” and “feeling good” suddenly do rank on top of the list of experiences which are there to be discovered… Then it has to be an EVE – because also in Season 2015, CENTURION consequently trusts in well-proven MTB hardtails which have been intelligently optimized for women. The currently six members of our EVE family all delight with a “carefree” heart consisting of robust but light aluminium. In addition, they especially convince with their adapted geometry: compared to the Backfire hardtails serving as the basis for construction, an EVE features a shorter top tube and a longer head tube (resp. by 10 mm at frame size 41). This results in a more relaxed and slightly upright seating position which enables female bikers to enjoy excellent comfort on longer outings. Moreover, our experienced R&D experts have thought of another knack to make e. g. unplanned stops less frightening: The top tube which is curved over its last third towards the seat tube reduces the so-called “standover height” significantly. Therefore, both feet can be put on the ground always safely and without any problems. Moreover, all EVE models can be equipped with a carrier or kickstand to achieve maximal suitability for daily use.

R’Bock Great fun for little ones Children should be outdoors – more than ever in the days of game consoles and smartphones. A bike has to be really fun if it wants to compete against the constantly growing range of digital activities of our offspring. Otherwise it indeed is clearly understandable that the “iron horse“ is not saddled in favour of seemingly more exciting alternatives. Therefore, we at CENTURION have always been aiming at the construction of bikes for kids and youngsters which make it easy to enjoy riding a bike. And which provide parents with the pleasant feeling of having invested in a value paying off in the long run – in form of happy and healthy kids. So definitely not by chance, a real highlight ranks on top of our established R’Bock family also in the new 2015 season: with the R’Bock Team.24, our experienced R&D experts have lifted an old friend up to a new level which is “completely ready for competition” without any limitations. A very low weight of just 11 kg, a light air-sprung fork with excellent functionality, a total of 27 gears, premium tires with low rolling resistance and an extremely reliable XT shifting system make our R’Bock Team.24 shine as a genuine racing machine. But also the other seven models down to the push-bike R’Bock 12 Walk certainly don’t need to hide themselves. Among them there is e. g. the R’Bock 16.3 resp. 16 which is available optionally with or without a shifting system. Also regarding the other “Bock” models, our R&D department has attached quite an importance on the fact that weight, configuration and design provide maximal pleasure for children and their later grown up versions alike. Because riding a bicycle is something you’ll keep enjoying up into old age – if you had fun learning it as a kid.

Road & Fitness Narrow tyres, broad smiles Since season 2014, a CENTURION road racer honored with design awards and convincing test results has been available in form of our unique Gigadrive. In 2015, this bike heralds a new era: although there are still versions with excellent rim brakes, the brand-new Gigadrive Disc from now on represents a discbrake variant sprinting towards the future with an adequately revised frame and a newly developed carbon fork. Simultaneously, the design language remains the same. Thereby the concept of the Gigadrive Disc combines athletic demands and an again increased suitability for daily use in an up to now unknown way. New: from 2015 on also available as a frame kit.

For years, our aluminium model Hyperdrive has been proving itself as a reasonable entry into the road-racing world of CENTURION. For 2015, this entry has become more attractive once again. Due to a revised aluminium tube set, the design of the entirely new Hyperdrive leans towards the carbon model Gigadrive even stronger. In addition, disc brakes are now featured also in this category. As the top-of-the-line model, the Hyperdrive 4000 Disc shines with the carbon fork of the Gigadrive Disc as well as with a discbrake mount likewise positioned in the rear frame triangle. Moreover, our new Hyperdrive and our Gigadrive share the improved grading of frame sizes.

New name, upgraded configuration, well-proven concept: For the new 2015 season, our former Cross Speed proves its proud membership in the family of swift asphalt racers even more clearly again – and now by its name as well. The most striking feature of this “road racer with flat bars“ is that its frame is the same revised tube set also characterizing the new Hyperdrive (e. g. including internally routed shifting cables). Moreover, our Speeddrive offers the option of installing a carrier. In this way, it lives up to its demand of shining as an always convincing sports bike also in everyday life. Gigadrive / Hyperdrive The world is a disc Basically, road bikes really are simple constructions. Therefore, one might indeed think that almost nothing could shake their world down to its foundations and could herald a completely new era. But still, for season 2015, exactly this has happened at CENTURION – the road bike has been invented newly! Already in the past, our aluminium model Hyperdrive provided straightforward access to the CENTURION world of narrow tyres – ambitiously enhanced by the carbon version Gigadrive. But in 2015, both bikes experience a definitely lasting extension of their basic character. This is not least realized via comfortably wide tyres (depending on model version). The essential factor are disc brakes. They have been an established MTB-standard already for a long time and are also utilized for a growing number of cyclo-cross bikes. But now they are finally on their way onto the asphalt as well. Disc brakes offer numerous benefits: even in unfavourable weather conditions, they ensure an extremely reliable deceleration. The rim as a load-bearing component is no longer subject to wear-and-tear. The omission of the braking surfaces allows the realization of even more exciting rim designs. In addition, other tubed and tubeless options can be configured without interfering heat generation. The fork and frame adaptations necessary for this purpose have been realized by our R&D experts in a very sophisticated as well as visually convincing way. For example, the fronts of all Disc models are graced by a self-developed carbon fork with an internally routed brake tube and a 15 mm thru-axle as a technologically leading representative of the complete family. Besides Di2 variants, a separate frame kit is available in season 2015 for the first time.

Speeddrive Addition to the family There are quite a number of good reasons to follow the black asphalt ribbon swiftly on a road bike: the easiness of rushing along, pure enjoyment of speed, the almost effortless scaling of uphills. But drop-handlebars and the correspondingly low position of the rider are not for everyone. For all those riders who want to enjoy the excellent fun provided by a fast road machine but without this detail, CENTURION offers the superb Speeddrive family – road bikes with linear flat handlebars. Especially in the new 2015 season, these impressive models equal their Hyperdrive siblings in every way. So far, these aluminium bikes have been known as our “Cross Speed” series. Now, they are clearly identifiable as members of the “Drive” family – but not only by their new name: In fact, the Speeddrive models trust in the same high-class tube set which also characterizes our aluminium road racer Hyperdrive. The only difference: the variant Speeddrive 500 uses a few MTB components and thus features a different BB standard. Apart from that, all Speeddrives now share internally routed shifting cables and a new visual appearance – as well as the fact that the rear frame triangle is equipped with carrier mounts to ensure maximal suitability for daily use. This also applies to the fork and turns a Speeddrive into a genuine long-distance partner if desired. Like in the case of our Hyperdrive models, the grading of the available frame sizes has been revised for 2015. It also applies to the women’s variants, which are still available in the new season and offer a reduced standover height thanks to their lower top-tube.

Stadt & Land The many faces of 28 inch Our puristic City Speed enters a new round in season 2015. The new tubeset of the road models Hyperdrive and Speeddrive serves as the basis for this bike as well. Three model versions are available further on: The City Speed 1 with its flip-flop hub is an impressive single-speeder for confirmed purists with a soft spot for stylish design. The variants 8 and 8 EQ aim at urban commuters preferring geared hubs. Especially our City Speed 8 EQ recommends itself as an excellent and convincing commuter bike: Thanks to its lighting system, carrier and kickstand, it is RTA-compliant and fully suitable for daily use.

Our Cross Line is the optimal choice especially for everyday and recreational riders who put great emphasis on versatility: Thanks to its treaded but smoothly running tyres, it moves effortlessly through the city. But at the same time, there is enough off-road potential for tours on country and forest roads. Thereby the suspension fork provides not only more comfort but also additional safety for more challenging routes. And due to the tube set of the Backfire.29, the Cross Line is prepared for such purposes also in terms of character. The frame sizes follow our new improved grading for road bikes.

For deason 2015, CENTURION exclusively relies on aluminium for cyclo-cross bikes. Just like in the years before, this still means that instead of being racing machines in the first instance, these well-proven models are swift bikes for every day which delight commuters and/or road racers in the wet and dirty winter months. This demand is underlined by the configuration as well as by the option to install fenders and a carrier. New for 2015: A new tube set à la Hyperdrive and Speeddrive, a new grading of frame sizes (also analogous to Hyperdrive/Speeddrive) and a new carbon fork (model versions 3000/4000).

City Speed Urban Conquerors ”Urban mobility” – a buzzword which at first sounds more like a marketing campaign pledge than like a real-world idea. Until you find yourself in your car stuck in the morning traffic again. The excellent bikes of the CENTURION City Speed family just represent a maximally economic as well as ecologic mode of transport in urban areas – and show how much fun riding a bike in the city can be. Riders who prefer a simple machine without electric assistance benefit from the simplicity of a City Speed, which is available again in three superb model versions for the upcoming 2015 season. All three City Speed bikes of MY 2015 share a revised heart of markedly robust but light aluminium – an optimal precondition for daily use in urban surroundings. Especially via its redesigned down tube, our City Speed approaches the impressive visual appearance of its Hyperdrive and Speeddrive siblings. In this way, it underlines its family relationship to these fast CENTURION asphalt racers. The City Speed’s hunger for speed is also clearly expressed by the innovative tapered steerer (increasing from 1 1/8” at the top to 1.5” at the bottom) which facilitates the safest navigation around the narrowest street corners or through vast columns of honking cars. Supporters of two-wheeled purism will appreciate that our City Speed 1 is available as a single-speed with a flip-flop hub. In equal measure, riders commuting daily to the office benefit from the 8-speed gear hub of our City Speed 8. In form of the City Speed 8 EQ (“equipped”), the latter is again offered as a completely RTA-compliant version with a lighting system, a carrier and a kickstand.

Cross Line The reliable partner Enjoying as many experiences as possible on a single bike – this wish is shared by many riders who are not highly ambitious athletes who actually require different bikes for their different disciplines, training, and competition or for different seasons. But does this mean that all the others, so to speak, have to be satisfied with models which are something like a “compromise”? Definitely not. Even more so if the “one bike for everything” is one of the excellent CENTURION Cross Line models of season 2015. The nine model versions of the CENTURION Cross Line family respectively base on one of three different aluminium frames. With their smoothly running tyres plus the convenient option to install a kickstand and a carrier, they are bikes which like urban cycling as much as moderate off-road riding. The tire profile with its reliable traction is well at home on gravel or forest tracks. In an equal measure, the suspension fork with 50 mm of travel does not only convince with regard to comfort but does also clearly mean a real safety plus. For season 2015, our experienced R&D experts have enhanced the versatile Cross Line’s already existing virtues successfully by some additional advantages. For example, the new tube set which has been adopted from the Backfire MTB family increases the already excellent robustness of the Cross Line once again. In addition, the number of RTA-compliant “EQ” models (“equipped” with lighting system, kickstand and carrier) has grown from three to four thanks to great new colour options. Still available are also the well-established “Lady” variants whose top tubes are purposefully sloped towards the seat tube for easier climbing into the saddle.

Cyclo Cross As versatile as it gets In 2015, our cyclo-crossers continue to range among the most versatile bikes available – especially if you have athletic ambitions. Due to the typical “roadie” drop-bar and a geometry similar to a road bike’s, cyclo-crossers are primarily orientated towards sporty riding. The treaded tyres are also wider in comparison to asphalt versions. Though, they still offer good preconditions to be utilized on the tarmac. But cyclo-crossers are mainly specialists for rides off paved tracks and roads. As soon as they get gravel or dirt under their wheels, their full potential comes alive. Also in the upcoming season, the Cyclo Cross constantly relies on aluminium frames. Because these bikes are understood rather as broad-banded everyday rides with speed in their genes rather than pure-bred pieces of competition-only equipment. The aluminium frame – visually approaching the two road models Hyperdrive and Speeddrive – is the new central element of Model Year 2015. A tapered steerer (increasing from 1 1/8” at the top to 1.5” at the bottom) guides our 2015 Cyclo Cross and guarantees maximal steering precision in challenging situations. The newly designed carbon fork of the variants Cyclo Cross 3000 and 4000 features a Post Mount brake mount for 160 mm discs – complemented by a robust 15 mm thru-axle which does not only increase the fork’s lateral stiffness but also routes the one-sided brake forces optimally into the “bike system”. In addition, all three Cyclo Cross versions are equipped with carrier eyelets at the frame. This underlines their demand to be prepared for anything, anytime.

The new electric full susser Numinis.E is one of the CENTURION highlights for 2015. Its fully capable mountain bike chassis with high performing kinematics sets the bar high. Our experienced R&D experts did not intend to construct an e-bike with shocks and adventurous looks but rather to enhance a genuine MTB by electric means. The result is a 120 mm chassis with Virtual Pivot Point (VPP) whose sensitivity and drivetrain-neutrality is the new benchmark in the pedelec sector.

After the introduction of 27.5“ wheels for smaller frames and of new Bosch components in 2014, season 2015 presents a new aluminium frame with a 12 mm thru-axle at the rear wheel (“E-Thru”). Analogous to the modifications to the purely muscle-powered Backfire MTBs, also our Backfire.E features new frame sizes now. The 38 cm frames utilize 27.5“ wheels, the 43 cm versions optionally 27.5“ or 29“ rims. The 48 and 53 cm versions solely utilize the big 29” standard.

In Season 2015, our E-Fire is again the most sporty on-road pedelec. Most notably, the sloping look and the specifically designed top tube with its intelligent storage compartment characterize the first CENTURION e-bike. From the new model year on, the “Sport” family exclusively features accumulators with 400 Wh. Other configurations have been revised, too (lighting system, Harmony hub control unit, seatposts).

Already since MY 2014, the CENTURION onroad pedelec family has been enriched by a new member which as well offers numerous convincing characteristics. The sporting E-Fire Tour can be utilized in a similarly athletic way like our E-Fire. But thanks to the lower top-tube and the even more relaxed geometry, it provides additional comfort. Also the E-Fire Tour of season 2015 is characterized by new and impressive configuration features.

Also in MY 2015, the low-entry bike E-Co represents an important part of the CENTURION pedelec program – and even gets an addition to its family in form of the new model 409. After the comprehensive upgrade in the previous model year, the most revisions for the new season are for the most part limited to the configuration of the E-CO models. Furthermore, the small frame size of 46 cm is additionally available with 26“ wheels.

Numinis E / Backfire E Powerhouses for rough rides Working for Germany’s original MTB pioneer, our R&D experts were led by nothing less than their own tradition when they decided to expand the field of use of CENTURION pedelecs to the ambitious off-road sector. Consequently, the Numinis.E now enriches our E-MTB category of MY 2015. This impressive 120 mm dually satisfies all our high demands – like the hardtail Backfire.E has done before. Like all other 2015 e-bikes, also our off-road pedelecs are powered by the second generation of the reliable Bosch motor with its high-performance batteries (400 Wh). The “amplified” tour/trail full susser Numinis.E is designed as a true mountain bike with 120 mm suspension travel and 27.5” wheels. It especially stands out for its sophisticated chassis kinematics. No less than three totally distinct development stages were required to realize the finished product – a “genuine” MTB with an additional motor instead of just a pedelec with shocks and “wild” looks. The “Virtual Pivot Point” (VPP) chassis works in a markedly drivetrain-neutral but highly sensitive way. At the same time, it integrates the Bosch motor unit optimally and therefore provides a riding experience almost unknown from electric bikes so far. The harmonious overall picture of our Numinis.E is complemented by technological finesses like the light and sporty 1x11 drivetrain, the stiffness-optimized 12 mm thru-axle at the rear wheel or the partly internal cable routing (incl. preparation for a dropper-seatpost). But our electric hardtail definitely does not have to hide behind this outstanding novelty: the Backfire.E (still available as a 27.5” or a 29” version) now starts into its third pedelec season full of suspense – with a new frame, a new size grading and a 12 mm thru-axle at the rear wheel.

E-Fire / E-Co Electric Elegance Pedelecs are increasingly becoming a familiar sight in our modern everyday life – luckily also such elegant models like our E-Fire with its two frame variants Sport and Tour or our “deeply relaxed” E-Co with its low and extra-comfortable step-through. For the new season 2015, all available model variants have been refined in detail. And so, each of them provides maximal e-bike fun in full accordance with the wishes of their riders. All E-Co models just like all E-Fire Tour and Sport versions now do without the name affix “EQ” now. The reason for this is an upgrade in terms of configuration: From 2015 on, all variants are delivered as RTA-compliant bikes (completely equipped with fenders, lighting system, carrier mount and kickstand). Bikes bearing the additional “DX” shine with a deluxe configuration which consists of e. g. the new high-end display “Bosch Nyon” (incl. navigation function), a Rock Shox “Paragon” suspension fork and a lighting upgrade supplied by Supernova and Herrmans. As another basic similarity, all 18 available model variants share high-capacity batteries (400 Wh) supplied by Bosch. The German electronics specialist still provides the second generation of the entire motor unit as well. All pedelecs of MY 2015 also feature offset seatposts which again enhance the ergonomics of our bikes perceptibly. By the way – thanks to CENTURION, fans of the innovative auto-shifting system “NuVinci Harmony” can enjoy not only the combination with a Bosch “Performance” motor (Sport and Tour): In addition, the “H-Sync” remote concept from now on enables them to control their automatic system directly via the “Intuvia” display. Enough reasons to pedal into the future with CENTURION!

Das Zillertal Relaxation and activity just as you like it There are differences with regard to cycling – the holiday region Zillertal, which has been a partner of CENTURION for many years, knows this very well. DIRO Bike Holidays Cycling fans like to remember: in 1987 and 1988 the then professional rider Reimund Dietzen became Vice Champion in the Vuelta a España after he had already won the German Road Championship several times. Also Uli Rottler has left his traces in the cycling world: Not only fans from the Baden region granted the veteran his triumph in the 2011 World Masters Championship; in addition, there are numerous German Championship titles to be remembered. Together the two friends “Dietzen and Rottler” are concisely “DiRo“ – the cycling-holiday specialist for the Mediterranean region of Catalonia in the north of Spain. During a training tour together around Christmas 2011 in the region, the two former roommates decided to offer cycling holidays there due to the optimal conditions. And since 2013, CENTURION brand ambassador Udo Boeltz has been reinforcing the team of experienced DiRo guides – another very good reason for road-bike enthusiasts to book their training camps at DiRo. School Project “Bikepool“ Learn to ride – learn to live The MTB is the perfect tool for the exciting journey into the unknown. In its saddle, we discover not only forests, mountains and unknown terrain but also ourselves up to a certain extent. Am I gritty enough for this, will I continue, can I master this? To experience the own world and oneself in this way becomes increasingly valuable for kids and youngsters – estecially as a counterweight to a “normal” life more and more happening in front of screens and in enclosed rooms. With this in mind, CENTURION supports the Project Bikepool run by the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (supervised by the Regional Institute of School Sports, School Arts and School Music). Because many schools don’t lack the willingness to make mountain biking a school activity but only lack the material. Since 2003, Project Bikepool has been addressing exactly this point: In cooperation with retailers and manufacturers including CENTURION, adequate bikes are put at disposal at more than 60 schools by now. Thanks to their versatility, MTBs can be used for very different activities: long tours, school championships, recreational and technical working groups or even for physical education, biology and physics classes. The teachers can participate in further trainings such as “Bike Tours with Students”, “Bicycle and Technology” or “The MTB as a Piece of Sporting Equipment”. In addition, tutors are trained in close cooperation with sports associations to provide support for the teachers. “With this, not only an up-to-date piece of sports equipment shall be added to the ones already existent in school,” says Julia Sahm who supervises the program on behalf of the schools. “It’s about a new interaction with one’s surroundings, about personal development and of one’s own skills via the tool “bike”. Hubert Schwarz Setting examples beyond the age of 60 Albert Einstein once allegedly said, “Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance, you must keep moving.” Hubert Schwarz has adopted more than just a small part of this philosophy. Someone who still sets records with 60 years lives totally according to it. Already in 1991, Schwarz mastered the “Race Across America” as the first German participant. Quite a lot of other extreme athletic performances such as two round-the-world trips by bike followed. In 2014, Schwarz tackled his eighth “RAAM” (this time in a team of four) with the aim of breaking the course record in the age category 60+. The impressive result: a brilliant success after six days, 14 hours and 18 minutes – with the support of CENTURION. Hubert Schwarz realized that one’s own top performances can motivate other people. Having “Moving People” as his motto, he runs an activity centre in the Franconian town of Büchenbach together with his wife Renate. If via health workshop, team building or sports event: Schwarz demonstrates how one’s life can gain more momentum. Those who wish to get active as per Einstein’s formula “human being + movement = balance2” find CENTURION bikes provided there for this purpose. Hubert Schwarz proves his social commitment e. g. as the initiator of the cycling event “beneflizz” which he organizes with CENTURION as a partner. 1. “Stack-to-Reach“ means: Depending on category, it is difficult to compare different models only on the sheer basis of the tube dimensions. For example, an MTB with a frame size perfectly matching its rider at once features e. g. other seat-tube and head-tube lengths than a road bike. The definition of the “Stack-to-Reach” (STR) ratio eliminates this problem. “Stack” always means the height of the imaginary vertical line running through the bottom bracket at the intersection point with the “Reach”. The latter is defined as the length of an imaginary horizontal line running through the upper end of the head tube.

2. Character depending on “Stack-to-Reach” Regardless of a bike’s category, the “Stack-toReach“ ratio is the essential factor defining its character. The bigger the STR ratio, the better the seating comfort on the respective model. Vice versa: The smaller the STR ratio, the more sporty the bike’s design. The corresponding problem: Within the range of a single bike variant, the STR ratio can change with increasing frame size – and therefore alters the bike’s entire character. For instance: if an MTB in frame size 46 is designated as “sporty” by bike magazines, it theoretically might be less sporty and thus more comfortable in frame size 56. 3. CENTURION optimizes “Stack-to-Reach“ Providing each and every rider with the same positive experience on their bike is the daily business of our experienced R&D experts. From MY 2015 on, they therefore work successively on the meticulous optimization of the “Stack-to-Reach” ratio within our CENTURION model range.
