“Bikes since 1976.” This is not just the title for the 2016 CENTURION catalogue. Rather, behind it is the knowledge and the success story that we, as one of the traditional German brands, stand for reliable quality from 40 years of experience. I had the privilege of founding CENTURION exactly four decades ago and this, as is usual on rounded “birthdays”, offers room for deep reflection. So, on the occasion of our anniversary, I gladly take a moment to think and look back at four decades full of innovative, emotional, and sustainable developments. Between the very first steel road bike, whose steering head decorated the CENTURION logo in 1976, and the incoming model year 2016 stand not just hundreds of new bicycles, but thousands of ideas and concepts and above all millions of hours in which an entire team has committed itself day by day to ensuring that you, our customer, may expect maximum satisfaction whenever you ride a CENTURION. Therefore, from the first day until now we have seen ourselves as a brand that follows the principle that a bicycle can bring its owner fun and joy only if it has been developed, constructed and sold with just as much fun and joy. For precisely this reason, the people who work for CENTURION are people who live and breathe bicycles above and beyond their everyday working life. Whether developers, designers, marketing or sales professionals, whether responsible for assembly, service or customer service or management: CENTURION rides bikes! Therefore, on the following pages you will find again for 2016 exclusively bicycles that reflect our understanding of product diversity that is closely oriented towards the field of use. Backfire Carbon.29 The New Reference for CENTURION Hardtail Racers. The endurance athletes of our renowned marathon team TEAM CENTURION VAUDE, led by multiple Transalp winner and German Marathon Champion of 2012 Markus Kaufmann, have achieved their biggest successes on their carbon-fiber hardtail Backfire Carbon Team.29. Why, then, revise this successful 29er...? “The primary development objective was weight reduction,” summarizes CENTURION development engineer and ex-pro racer Hannes Genze. At approximately 1,150 grams (frame size 46), the “old” Backfire Carbon.29 was no heavyweight at all. However measured against the developments on the market, there was a little room for of improvement. The result is impressive: The new size-43 top frame weighs a slim 920 grams – a reduction of a full 20%! This was possible not just thanks to optimizations of the tube cross-sections, but also due to a large number of development-related considerations. “A revised internal installation of all cables or for instance a fully integrated headset makes a big difference overall,” says Hannes Genze, describing two of the innovations. However, the new Backfire Carbon.29 impresses not just due to its weight. Together with the steering head stiffness of 85 Nm/°, a just as impressive bottom bracket stiffness of 65 N/mm as well as chain stays of just 433 millimeters in length, an overall concept results that is one of the most agile among 29er hardtails. “Di2ready,” mountable with a 1x11-, double or even triple drivetrain and highly “mechanic-friendly” despite internal cables thanks to a special “service access” below the bottom bracket, the new Backfire Carbon.29 is a masterpiece that defines a new reference in several respects. Trailbanger EXC The Next Evolutionary Stage for CENTURION Enduro Fans. “EXC” – exceptional. Three simple letters that newly adorn our full-suspension enduro Trailbanger, which has now grown to 170/165-millimeters travel after a year’s timeout, and that mean far more than their simplicity initially suggests. For with the new Trailbanger EXC, CENTURION presents a full-suspension bike designed with a “Horst link” for the first time in our history. Rolling on 27.5-inch tires, this simple fact alone means that apart from name and field of use the new Trailbanger has nothing at all in common with its predecessor, which was discontinued in 2014. Packed full of modern technology and standards, the new super enduro – also available in a high-end “team” variant for the first time – offers highly competent downhill suitability including bike park ambitions that are to be taken seriously*. The aluminum frame newly developed from top to bottom weighs 2,950 grams (excluding shock) and thus renders the question regarding a carbon version superfluous. The three frame sizes 43, 48, and 53 follow CENTURION’s own “stack to reach”-optimized principle that ensures the same riding impression for all riders in all frame sizes. Without the option of installing a derailleur and thus optimized for enduro-typical 1x11 drivetrains with kinematic consistency, and inherently equipped with a height-adjustable chainguide and nevertheless prepared for ISCG 05, the Trailbanger EXC shows its downhill ambitions. The “Horst link” suspension not only offers maximum sensitivity at low braking rotation, but also allows for 428-millimeter “Ultra Short RC” chain stays – guaranteeing lots of fun on twisty singletrack and in bike parks*. Lhasa E The Trail- and Trekking Pedelec with the Pioneer’s Experience. After CENTURION presented what is now one of the most praised electric full-suspension bike concepts as recently as the 2015 model year with the Numinis E, the logical complement of the pedelec program in terms of trail-e-MTBs now follows with the Lhasa E. As with the Numinis E, with the new full-suspension trekking bike the CENTURION engineers have followed the approach of designing not an e-bike with suspension, but rather a “real” mountain bike with sensibly integrated motor support. In its first season, the new Lhasa E will already be available in two different concepts. Although both of them are 29ers with “only” 100 millimeters of front travel as well as 80 millimeters at the rear, the models 640, 650, and 650 DX are “MTB Light”; they therefore roll on trail-suitable 2.25 tires and are equipped with correspondingly potent forks and shocks. The Lhasa E 640 EQ, 650 EQ, and 650 DX EQ versions are considerably more long-haul oriented. Not only do they have lighter-rolling 2.1 tires, but as “EQ” (= equipped) models they also feature lights for participation in road traffic, an integrated rack, and fenders. In terms of geometry, we interpret the Lhasa E as particularly comfortable, drivetrain-neutral and, thanks to design-induced long chain stays, with predictable steering and inspiring lots of confidence. In the process, all five of the model variants available for the 2016 season rely – typically of CENTURION – on the proven support from Bosch. In addition to the familiar 400 Wh batteries, new 500 Wh batteries are also used. In terms of the drivetrain, the new 1x10 Shimano Deore with a 11-36 cassette is highly suitable. No compromises when choosing your bike for trail and trekking. The new Lhasa E.

Crossfire Carbon The New Carbon-Fiber Cyclo Cross Machine with Tradition. It is not just CENTURION founder Wolfgang Renner himself who can look back at a successful career as a cyclo cross racer. Hannes Genze, development engineer and former TEAM CENTURION VAUDE pro rider, was also out and about in the “CX” in his professional career. It is only logical, then, that after a four-year development break CENTURION is now complementing the highly everyday-suitable aluminum crossers again with a full-blooded racing machine with the new Crossfire Carbon. From 2016, the entire cyclo cross family will be called by the new name “Crossfire” – farewell “Cyclo Cross”! However, while this novelty involves no changes for the aluminum models when it comes to the frame, a completely new representative is at hand in the Crossfire Carbon. The heart of this new bike is its extremely lightweight carbon-fiber frame (approximately 1,100 grams, frame size 56), which is both balanced in terms of stiffness and comfort. Modern technology such as internally routed cables, the option of setting up the Crossfire Carbon with 1x11 and double chainring drivetrains (mechanical and electric), a 12-millimeter through-axle and the post mount brake installed in the rear triangle show clearly that the CX future begins here! Like the frame, the likewise newly developed carbon fork also shines with an internal brake hose as well as a 15-millimeter through-axle for maximum control and precision. Taken together, all this results in a carbon-fiber CX bike that impresses with characteristics typical of a racing machine but also with a significant portion of comfort and consistence. Trailbanger EXC

With 150/145 millimeters of travel (front/rear) and interpreted as a 27.5-inch full-suspension, the No Pogo already was as a highly capable all-mountain bike in 2015. Our engineers have further increased its strengths for the 2016 season: A slightly lower geometry (less stack), a rear suspension equipped with more reserves, and forks with 34mm stanchions underline the increased downhill ambitions of the new No Pogo. Also new: “stack to reach”-optimized geometry with changed sizing.

Numinis The Balanced All-Rounder for all Ups and Downs. “Thou shalt have no other gods before me”? As if! Our Numinis (Latin for “deity”) is extremely tolerant. The only thing it absolutely does not allow is reduced fun on the trail! Therefore, in 2016 the Numinis is again available in two versions both worthy of worship: As the markedly trail and long-haul oriented Numinis Aluminum with 130-millimeters of travel at the front and 120 mm at the rear and as the racy Numinis Carbon with 120/100 mm and not a gram too much on the stylish carbon-fiber frame. While in the last few model years the bikes rolled without exception on large 29er tires, from now on aluminum fans can also enjoy the first 27.5-inch version. It too follows CENTURION’s own “stack to reach”-optimized sizing, which ensures an optimal riding experience at all times, regardless of the frame size. The rider has an extremely central position “in” the bike and therefore maintains control in all situations. Playfully downhill, masterfully uphill and on trails, agile everywhere in between – the Numinis presents itself brilliantly as the “god of the peaks.” Those who like it a bit faster can exchange aluminum for carbon and forfeit a bit of travel. Voilà: As one of the current competition tools (alongside the hardtail Backfire Carbon Team.29), the Numinis also impresses as part of our TEAM CENTURION VAUDE’s quiver. The marathon experts led by 2012 German Marathon Champion Markus Kaufmann prefer to compete in multi-day races such as the legendary Cape Epic. This rocket routinely offers extremely quick acceleration and much needed comfort. Modern features such as through-axles, internally routed cables and a dropper seat post* ultimately make the Numinis a bike to bow down to.

No Pogo All Mountain Beyond the limits of the Trend. “All Mountain”: Two simple words in themselves, which, however, taken together, describe an extremely complex world. “All Mountain” – is that even possible? How could a bike be so diverse as to combine all the necessary strengths without exhibiting weaknesses as well? The answer lies deep in the long history of the No Pogo. When its first iteration premiered in 1996, it already amazed all the experts and since then, just like mountain biking itself, it has advanced way more than everybody would have dreamed back then. Just as the early No Pogo was able, like no other full-suspension bike, to eliminate bobbing (pogo) during pedaling without compromising the sensitive suspension, the 2016 model underlines the high-level suspension art of our developers. Equipped with even more potent specifications compared to the previous season, our multi-faceted 27.5-inch full-suspension bike with its 150/145 millimeters of travel masters every requirement of the “All Mountain” concept. In the process, the No Pogo goes further than the general trend demands. Perfectly designed in terms of kinematics for unrestricted control, even on tricky terrain, and able to deal with any downhill trail due to its suspension, tires and equally capable brake system. At the same time, however, it is always willing and able to master ascents with a smile as well thanks to its correspondingly high seat tube angle and the lowest possible weight. Last but not least, the choice of frame material speaks a clear language: Here, robust aluminum is most welcome. Thanks to decades of proven CENTURION quality, the No Pogo also deals with difficult terrain in a playful manner. New for the coming trail season 2016 is “stack to reach”-optimized sizing, with which No Pogo fans of all sizes are always provided with the same awesome riding experience.

Trailbanger An New Talent Among the Super-Enduros. “EXC.” Three letters do describe a thunderbolt. The new trailbanger begins the 2016 season “exceptionally” – reborn as a superenduro - in order to eclipse everything that has been there previously. With significantly increased travel, new suspension kinematics and designed for modern enduro riding without compromises both in terms of design and specifications, the new Trailbanger EXC is nothing less than simply the best CENTURION enduro that was ever pointed downhill. Completely redeveloped, the new frame of the Trailbanger EXC catches the eye immediately: strikingly designed, housing the shock centrally and thus constituting a more than attractive basis for the kinematics, which are designed as a four-bar linkage with “Horst Link” for the first time. In the process, the aluminum frame weighs only just less than three kilograms in medium size! Due to the special design, the 165 millimeters of travel at the rear – which suit the huge 170 millimeters of travel at the front excellently – could be designed with maximum effectiveness. Equipped with important reserves, perceptibly sensitive and above all almost completely free of braking influences, this enduro handles truly superb. In particular, the up to 2.35-inch-wide 27.5-inch tires, a long top tube combined with an extra-short stem and wide handlebars as well as the consistent focus on a 1x11 drivetrain are more than just hints how you will be able to negotiate extreme terrain on the Trailbanger. Thanks in no small part to its chain stays of only 428 millimeters in length, this bike combines the agility typical of enduros with freeride-like shredability. A now “stack to reach”-optimized sizing, partly internal cables – including for the dropper seat post – through-axles at the front and at the rear (15/12 millimeters) and sophisticated details such as a integrated, height-adjustable chainguide complete the new Trailbanger EXC, making it the CENTURION super enduro of the future.

Backfire.29 As a working tool of the TEAM CENTURION VAUDE, the carbon-fiber version of the 29er hardtail Backfire is one of the most successful bikes of the CENTURION MTB program. The carbon frame has been geometrically revised for 2016, with its lightest variant “slimming” by 20% to far below 1,000 grams. New technology and specifications complete this hardtail family, whose aluminum “Race” models have experienced a visual and technical upgrade by means of hydroforming and the new Shimano XT.

The carbon and aluminum models of the 27.5inch hardtail go into the new 2016 model year with their frames unchanged. Since their adoption into the CENTURION program in 2013, the higher comfort and greater safety through more traction of the “mid-size” compared to 26-inch bikes have made them attractive both to everyday riders as well as ambitious athletes. However, compared to 29ers, 27.5-inch MTBs remain more lightweight and their wheels stiffer. New technology à la Backfire.29 is also present here.

As in the previous year, CENTURION is adhering to the proven wheel standard of 26 inches, despite there being some advantages of 29er or 27.5-inch hardtails. Why? Because children and youths, for example, can go there from 24-inch bikes more easily. And because 26-inch hardtails can be offered with maximum affordability and are thus suitable both for occasional cyclists and as a school bike, for example. And not least because 26” accessories and spare parts are ubiquitous, often at very affordable prices. “EQ” versions available.

The EVE family was optimized geometrically and in terms of women-specific specifications. While in the last model year CENTURION still focused exclusively on 27.5-inch and 26-inch versions, these tried-and-tested models are being complemented for 2016 by a 29er hardtail based on the Backfire.29. Thus, this bike is aimed at sportingly ambitious women who focus on the well-known performance of the Backfire with an individualized design and at the same time want to benefit from the advantageous EVE geometry. All models available in 2016 are “stack to reach”-optimized.

Backfire.29 Freshly Developed: The New Star in the Marathon Sky 230 grams – little more than half a pound and yet a great deal. 230 grams means the weight saved in the new “RCF” frame of our Backfire Carbon.29 and thus a whole world for all those for whom grams means seconds. Thanks to its “race carbon fiber” structure as well as other technological highlights, the new standard working tool of our marathon team TEAM CENTURION VAUDE forges ahead in dimensions that number it among the current most lightweight 29er hardtails. The 2016 version of the top model Backfire Carbon Team.29 achieves a dream total weight of just 8.5 kilos*– further tuning potential included. And yet mere weight figures are not the only thing that make the new star in the marathon sky stand out. For instance, new internal cable routing, a fully integrated headset, suitability for both 1x11 and double and triple chainring drivetrains of the latest standard as well as a fundamentally optimized frame shape, reveal the charisma of the new carbon-fiber 29er. Even the geometry table shines with innovations: brilliantly short chain stays for the highest level of agility, along with high-speed stability that has been improved once more, ensure the optimal basis for victorious marathon and cross-country race runs. For instance, the 27.5-inch mountain bikes (also known as “650B”), which are now rightly fully established, are far more than “just” smaller 29ers or larger 26-inch bikes. Rather, they are an independent concept full of numerous exciting options for a large number of mountain bike fans. For instance, racers who primarily are interested in lightweight bikes that are fast to accelerate benefit from “650B”, as do regular everyday cyclists who value, among other things, the increased comfort. With the Backfire.27 family, CENTURION is continuing the successful concept of the sensible consolidation of all the strengths of 26 inch and 29er hardtails in the 2016 season as well. While the already “stack to reach”-optimized carbon models with their merely 960 grams-weighing* lightweight carbon-fiber frame start the new model year more or less unchanged, the aluminum versions have been modernized. From now on also offering all riders of all frame sizes always the same experience based on “stack to reach”-optimized sizing, above all new standards are featured on the aluminum models as of 2016. In particular, the suitability for the new Shimano side swing derailleur (“Race” frame: internal cable linked, “Pro” frame: external cable) produces significant performance increase. Additionally, at “Race” level the frame was provided with new, exciting hydroformed tubes for the model variant Backfire Race 2000.27 – constituting genuine added value, both visually and technically. Furthermore, all “650B” fans benefit from Shimano’s new XT with 11 gears at the rear, which is available both on Backfire.27 models on carbon and at aluminum level.

This corresponds exactly to the standards we invest in the CENTURION MTBs of our EVE family: high-quality mountain bikes for long riding fun at a level that takes your particular standards into account in many respects. With its special women’s specific geometry, the EVE line shows unmistakably at the very first glance that it is something very special. Thanks to the significantly swooped top tube, our developers have achieved a much reduced standover height – a calming feeling, whenever you want to bring your feet back down to earth. In addition, the frame shape of all the EVE models impresses both with a slightly shorter top tube and with a slightly longer head tube. The result: a less elongated, sporty, more relaxed riding position for a greater overview and easy control. In the 2016 model year, the EVE 29ers are celebrating their revival and complement the proven portfolio of 27.5-inch and 26-inch models. In the process, a completely redeveloped 29er hardtail stands at the top of the model family in the EVE Race 1000.29, which is explicitly aimed at particularly sportily oriented female riders and that therefore takes its design from our successful Backfire family. The chief attraction: From 2016, all EVE bikes are “stack to reach”-optimized, like the rest of the MTB family.

R’Bock 24 The last step before the Backfire, the first 26-inch MTB in the evolution of the life of a CENTURION rider: The R’Bock 24 is a real, capable mountain bike that differs from its grown-up counterparts only in terms of the tire size. Available either with a rigid or suspension fork, a special new representative of this bike family is being launched for 2016 in the “Team” version. Equipped to a high level and exclusively with disc brakes, we designed this bike explicitly for sporty kids with racing ambitions.

R’Bock 16.3 With the R’Bock 16.3, the step to the “first real bike” is effortless. Unlike the 12-inch version equipped with a coaster brake in addition to the front brake, as of the 2016 season the 16-inch bike is available exclusively as a “.3” variant with a three-speed gear hub from Shimano. Due to the fact that it is equipped with a rigid fork - this trains the correct choice of line and is thus practical for the child’s bike - the R’Bock 16.3 maintains a weight of just 8.5 kilograms that is easy to handle, despite its drivetrain.

R’Bock 20 With the 20-inch-tire representative of the R’Bock family, CENTURION is already offering genuine mountain biking in the Youth & Kids program. To continue to keep the weight low and taking the equally low weight of its young rider into account, all models are equipped with rim brakes. However, riders are still free to choose between rigid or suspension forks. New in the 2016 model year is the “Team” variant, whose overall specifications are aimed at minimum weight and maximum performance and thus possible use in races.

R’Bock 12 Early practice is invaluable when it comes to bicycles... And we are convinced that kids should do without training wheels as early as possible! At the end of the day, doing without this external assistance - which seems difficult only at first glance - accelerates the development of much needed motor skills. Children benefit psychologically from this “I did it myself” feeling as well. Therefore, CENTURION focuses on this idea from as low as 12-inch, a concept with which balance and assessment of speed can be trained in optimal fashion – first without and then with pedals.

Gigadrive With the Gigadrive, we presented a completely revised, unique CENTURION road concept for the 2014 road bike season. In 2015 came the “Disc” update; additionally, a variant based on the “Team” versions in the TEAM CENTURION VAUDE design was also available for the first time. Only last year, the established HYPERDRIVE road bike family experienced a comprehensive technical and visual enhancement by means of new tube shapes. For the 2016 season, it’s the specifications that are upgraded. The 3000 Disc model for example, features Shimano’s new 105 group, which operates at a completely new level and consists not only of a new drivetrain but also flawlessly performing hydraulic disc brakes. Moreover, the 2000 model turns heads with the new Shimano Tiagra groupset.

Only last year we renamed our “road bike with straight handlebars” to clearly show how much it belongs to the Gigadrive and Hyperdrive model families. Now, for 2016, there are technical changes: A new frame as well as the 15-millimeter through-axle carbon fork for the use of disc brakes raise the performance level of the Speeddrive. The shifting cables are now routed internally; the brake hoses remain external (except the front brake on the Disc model). Also new are wider 35 mm tires.

A new model name plus a new addition to the family: Alongside the sporty but primarily everyday-oriented aluminum models, a purebred carbon-fiber CX bike is available again for the first time in four years. We proudly present: the new Crossfire Carbon. Thanks to its low frame weight of approximately 1,100 grams (frame size 56), the highly precise carbon fork with a 15-mm through-axle as well as consistently race-suitable specifications, the new Crossfire is among the top CX racing machines from the very start.

With the carbon and aluminum models of our Gigadrive and Hyperdrive road bike families, you are always sure to rely on concepts that combine modern technologies and trends in terms of weight and stiffness with optimally everyday-suitable and long-term intelligent details in a sensible manner. After a comprehensive revision of both Gigadrive and Hyperdrive during the last two model years, the changes for the 2016 season focus on the specifications. It was only in 2014 that a completely new road bike concept from CENTURION rolled out onto the streets in the shape of the new Gigadrive Carbon. Almost unspectacular at first glance - with the exception of its disc brakes - the strength of the carbon-fiber road bike is revealed in its detail. At 1,050 grams in size 53, the frame is exactly as lightweight as it should be with an intelligent combination of weight reduction, everyday suitability and durability. The same applies to the carbon fork with its 425 grams, which therefore not only performs flawlessly but also ensures maximum carefreeness thanks to its internally routed brake hose. The riding position on the Gigadrive is sporty but does not force the rider out of the comfort zone. 25-millimeter-wide tires enable reduced pressure and thus a significant increase in comfort and safety – overall, then, a road bike as it should be for the vast majority of us. The fact that we designed the aluminum version Hyperdrive in the same vein is good news for all who can do without carbon. Thanks to elaborately hydroformed tubes and ultra modern specifications such as the new hydraulic Shimano 105 disc brake, the Hyperdrive is far more than just an affordable version but a true alternative.

Speeddrive Because Fast is Fun. A road bike with straight bars, what is that exactly? Above all, it is a blast to ride. This model family of minimalist asphalt speedsters is open for everything, from sportingly ambitious training units to just zipping along through the city or countryside. A Speeddrive literally brings you up to speed and is able to enrich your everyday life with the swift riding experience that only narrow tires can offer. With a continued focus on lightweight but highly everyday-suitable aluminum, 2016 will entail decisive changes for Speeddrive fans. Not only does the new frame impress visually thanks to its even more emphasized sportiness and the associated closeness to the bike’s “road bike siblings” Gigadrive and Hyperdrive. Rather, it is the technical details, such as the now internally routed shifting cables, that signify a further step forward in terms of function as well. Also new is that the 2016 frame was also designed for the use of disc brakes for the first time – a real safety plus especially for all those Speeddrive riders who want to use the bike to transport their children in a trailer, for example. Moreover, the top model Speeddrive Disc 2000 is guided by a new carbon fork that is also used in the – also new – Crossfire Carbon. With its likewise internally routed brake cable and a 15-millimeter through-axle, this highly stiff fork underlines the sportily ambitious and future-oriented aspirations of the Speeddrive even further. However, thanks to the option of installing fenders (model-dependent), the Speeddrive remains a fine option as a partner for commuting and everyday riding.

Crossfire Fiery Modernity from Active Tradition. Just like a cyclo-crosser speeding along a gravel track at high speed leaves no stone upon a stone, our development engineers have occupied themselves intensively with the model family of our cross-country bicycles. The result is a new CX season that shows clearly how much fire is in these bikes not just with their new model name “Crossfire”, which replaces the offroad bike’s previous name “Cyclo Cross”. The complete development of a new carbon version of the Crossfire in particular makes ambitious cross country fans sit up and take notice. With a weight of approximately 1,100 grams*, the frame, the heart of the new Crossfire Carbon Disc, is, in the first instance, extremely lightweight and is therefore the absolute top choice for all cyclocrossers whose focus is the fight against dirt and the clock. However, lightweight alone is not enough to be really good. Outstanding stiffness in the bottom bracket ensures superb drive, while the highly torsionally stiff steering head provides absolutely reliable steering and brake precision in all situations. The likewise completely developed new carbon fork with its internally routed brake cable and its 15-millimeter through-axle contributes to this, as do the disk brakes, which, at 160 millimeters at the front and rear, are sufficiently large in dimension. Consistently designed as a high-end road bike with tube tires and a 1x11 drivetrain in the “Team” version or minimally mitigated with a double drivetrain as a 4000 version: The Crossfire Carbon does not get slower in any variant. The new carbon-fiber model takes its everyday suitability with the option of installing fenders from aluminum add-ons, which continue to be available. With the Crossfire 4000, 3000, 2000, and 2000 EQ, CENTURION serves, for instance, the desire of all road bikers for an “all-weather carefree training machine” or accompanies commuter cyclists on their daily, sporty route through forest and field in 2016 as well.

This model line is completely new for the 2016 model year and the logical complement to the CENTURION City program. As a fully equipped and road traffic compliant low-entry bike, the City Line is aimed at all leisure, everyday, and occasional cyclists seeking a comfortable, stress-free, and emission-free method of getting around – in the pure and affordable form without an electric motor.

It was only for last season that the puristic City Speed was equipped with the new tube set in the style of its road bike “brothers” Hyperdrive and Speeddrive – for 2016, these things remain the same. As single speeder City Speed 1, this CENTURION city bike continues to be aimed at all who lead the ongoing trend of a markedly urban lifestyle. As for the tires, they are intentionally wide at 35 millimeters and offer significant grip but also pleasantly low rolling resistance. This awesome bike wants to be nothing else than your constantly reliable and faithful partner whenever you want to get around in the city without a motor of any type. With the new City Line, for the first time CENTURION provides you with a non-electric option that excellently fulfills all the requirements of a particularly everyday-suitable low-entry bike. In order to construct this type of frame, our engineers not only opted for a tapered head tube for maximum stiffness, but also chose particularly safe tube transitions, without paying attention to the weight of the frame alone all the time. With a brake system combination of a coaster brake* and two rim brakes, a safe and comfortable 63-millimeter suspension fork, and lightly rolling but highly puncture-proof 45-millimeter tires, the City Line is ready for your everyday requirements. All models are equipped for participation in road traffic and have fenders, a side stand and a bike rack. The drivetrain, which is closed using chain protection, is based on a low-maintenance Shimano gear hub, and the ergonomically designed cockpit together with the geometry optimized for an upright riding position ensures a perfect overview at all times, even on longer rides.

City Speed Getting Around With Speed and Style. The CENTURION for all who like to limit themselves to the most important aspects of a bicycle: that it rides and that it looks great. With the City Speed, we very happily continue to fulfill the desire for extremely modern purism, but without losing sight of our strengths. For instance, the size scale of the City Speed family also follows our own “stack to reach”-optimized key and thus offers the same, impressive riding experience in all frame sizes. In addition to its timeless design, when it comes to quality a City Speed is also built to last. Thanks to its aluminum frame, which was revised for 2015, the City Speed impresses with its always reliable and precise steering and braking – essential when things occasionally get a bit tighter in city traffic. It is certainly no coincidence that CENTURION uses aluminum here. At approximately 1,700 grams, the frame is more lightweight than its robustness would suggest. Being leaned against things, bumping into stuff, contact with a bike lock every day: The City Speed takes all this like a champ. Also, the tapered head tube, the internal shifting cable routing and the option of installing a side stand and a rack (the latter also on the fork), make the City Speed a true roadster. Making use of all these options and equipped with road traffic-compliant lighting, our “EQ” model presents itself as a fully equipped “all-round carefree package”. This is surely contributed to in no small part by the fact that our City Speed family uses the simplest way to change gears – or none at all. Whether as a single speed or with an eight-speed gear hub, nothing disturbs the focus on the pure riding pleasure that is so particular to this urban bike.

Electric motor specialist Bosch is introducing exciting upgrades for the new season. Additionally, in its fourth model year, our established e-hardtail Backfire E remains true to itself. Intelligently designed as a supremely rolling 29er conveying safety and comfort with 100-millimeters of travel at the front, the Backfire E is aimed at all pedelec fans who spend a lot of time off the streets and prefer to ride on forest paths and the like.

The full-suspension electric bike Numinis E, presented in 2015, impressed from the off like hardly any model prior to it. Numerous successful tests by magazines speak for themselves. And yet our engineers have not sat back and relaxed but have improved the Numinis E where it was still possible: in the specifications. These make the 2016 version more rough stuff capable so the rider can take on singletrails with even greater sovereignty. Also new: the Bosch CX drive unit.

More than just the “little brother” of our extremely successful Numinis E. Although the new 29er trekking e-mtb Lhasa E does take advantage of some expertise related to the development of the former, with its 100/80-millimeter travel (front/rear) it is aimed primarily at all who would seek a comfortable and more moderate offroad riding experience inlcuding the “Bosch factor.” The new full-suspension bike comes in two interpretations for the 2016 season. One focusses on its mountain bike genes, the other comes fully equipped with more trekking oriented specifications.

E-Fire / E-Co The Fun Way Into a Sporty Future. “Fun is not everything, but everything is nothing without fun.” Our free interpretation of a quote by German philosopher Schopenhauer illustrates how our modern e-bikes can contribute to the future. For as sensible as the largely emission-free use of pedelecs is, for each individual rider it is mainly the simple enjoyment of cycling - possibly rediscovered after a (far too) long time - that very quickly converts the investment in a bicycle with an electric motor into a worthwhile one. With the on-road pedelecs E-Fire Sport and Tour as well as the low-entry bike E-Co, CENTURION offers a wide selection of cleverly designed bicycles with pedal assist, all of which benefit from drive modernizations. With the new “CX Drive Unit” from the Performance line, the German electric motor specialist Bosch presents an update of its central motor – which has proven itself time and time again - that packs a punch. 75 Nm torque means a growth of a full 50%; additionally, new batteries offer up to 500 Wh**. The deluxe “Nyon” control unit** has also been revised. Above all, its increased internal storage for installing external data expands the scope of application of Bosch-driven e-bikes sustainably. Also new for the new pedelec season: New chainrings as well as correspondingly optimized speed ratios elevate the already outstanding riding experience with a CENTURION e-bike to a new level. As in the last few model years, almost all specification variants are available both with the visually and technically independent Sport frame and in the - thanks to the lower top tube - moderately “mitigated” Tour version and also as low-entry model E-Co.

Backfire E Out of the City, Into Recreation! As a first-rate German mountain bike brand, for CENTURION it is nothing less than a matter of course to equip each MTB-enthusiastic e-biker with the same “quality made in Baden-Württemberg” as we do with all non-motorized mountain bikes as well. Thus, our offroad pedelec Backfire E.27/29 is takes cues from the carbon and aluminum versions of the Backfire family – not just in terms of its name – and combines their strengths with the sporty center mounted motor concept “ePowered by Bosch.” For 2016 this means a new “CX Drive Unit” from the Bosch Performance line, now with 75 Nm as well as new batteries supplying up to 500 Wh, depending on model version. One of the most obvious features of the Backfire E is its frame size-dependent availability with wheel size 27.5” or 29”. In this way, our engineers enable access to this sporty offroad pedelec (frame size 43 available in both versions) for a large number of e-MTB fans with a total of five frame sizes. Laid across a grid, the different sizes show the “stack to reach”-optimization typical of CENTURION with the constant outstanding ride qualities for each frame size. Basically made of robust aluminum, the frame of the Backfire E impresses with features such as partly internally routed cables, a 12-millimeter through-axle on the rear wheel for maximum stiffness as well as uncomplicated wheel removal and insertion. In addition, a bottle holder can be placed in the triangular frame – essential for longer rides through the forest and the field. Easily locked out from the cockpit, the 100 mm fork is also equipped with a through-axle. In 2016, the drivetrain benefits from an adjusted speed ratio that enhances the torque of the new Bosch CX motor, which has increased by 50% to 75 Nm.

Numinis E Expert Partner for Summiteers. Last year, our Numinis E entered the stage of full-suspension e-MTBs with a bang - similarly successful to our full suspension No Pogo in 1996. Back then, our engineers performed pioneering work by eliminating drivetrain influences (“pogo”) almost completely for the first time on a full suspension. With its sophisticated suspension system, our new electric full-suspension trailbike clearly shows this heritage. The Numinis E is actually not an e-bike with suspension, but rather a “real” MTB with pedal assist – that rides accordingly. Numerous successful tests and awards confirm that, as a mountain bike pioneer, we again focused on the correct concept. For 2016, we have enhanced the specifications of the 27.5” Numinis E. In addition, full-suspension e-bike fans benefit from modernizations by Bosch. The heart of the Numinis E remains an elaborately designed frame with “virtual pivot” suspension that works with maximum sensitivity and drivetrain-neutrality at the same time, without having to combat braking influences. Unlike in its premiere year, this e-trailbike is now equipped with 130 mm forks at the front as well as more capable tires. This places greater emphasis on trail and downhill performance. All the same, the effortless climbing of even the roughest of trails surely remains the greatest guarantee of fun with this bike. In addition to further detail improvements such as a dropper seat post lowerable from the handlebars (model-dependent), the innovations from Bosch in particular do not remain without consequences for the outstanding performance of the central-motor trailbike. For instance, the new CX Drive Unit now provides a full 75 Nm and the new batteries, with up to 500 Wh (also model-dependent), keep you going for considerably longer – including on challenging mountain rides.

Lhasa E Committed to Tradition and the Future. Almost 30 years ago - in 1987, to be precise - Wolfgang Renner set out for the first time on a trip to discover Tibet on a bike. The two-wheeled adventure led him and his traveling companion across 1,100 kilometers from Lhasa to Kathmandu – on a mountain bike built specially for this purpose and designed shortly beforehand by the CENTURION founder himself. After a successfully completed trip, this MTB became the “TMS Lhasa-Kathmandu”: The first serially produced German mountain bike and ultimately the source of the name of our trekking e-bike that is completely new for the coming 2016 model year, the Lhasa E. Unlike the Numinis E, the Lhasa E is an e-29er of moderate nature. With 100/800 millimeters of front and rear travel, the 2016 innovation focuses primarily on comfortable trekking experiences. Appropriately, therefore, there will be two interpretations of the Lhasa E from the start: The more sportily Lhasa E 650.29 with markedly offroad-suitable specifications and the more trekking oriented Lhasa E 650.29 EQ, whose addendum stands for “equipped” and therefore comprehensive specifications. In addition to the Road traffic-compliant light system, the “EQ” features fenders, a side stand and a fully integrated bike rack specially developed for the Lhasa E – an optimal complement to the lighter-rolling tires chosen for this model and thus overall the perfect travel bike for all who wish to expand their horizon using this Bosch central motor concept. Speaking of Bosch, not only does the new “CX Drive Unit” provide a strong 75 Nm and do the new batteries now offer 500 Wh (model-dependent), but additionally all riders of the Lhasa E “DX” can enjoy the new Nyon display with increased internal storage. TEAM CENTURION VAUDE Likable, Successful Brand Ambassadors. Even if the constancy of the sporting achievements with which our TEAM CENTURION VAUDE impresses Europe’s marathon scene with pleasing regularity: “What constitutes both the sportspeople and the entire team is that we see ourselves as ‘amateur-professional’.” By saying this, head of the TCV team Richard Dämpfle is certainly not trying to play down the quality of his team. Rather, he is underlining the character that has been co-responsible for numerous successes not just since the beginning of CENTURION’s commitment in the 2011 season. Actually, both are correct. Even in the “A1” team, none of the five riders has a professional contract. However, not just the achievements and their preparation and follow-up work but also the entire performance of the TEAM CENTURION VAUDE are professional. This applies, for example, to the recent third overall victory in a row at the BIKE Transalp race – a historic achievement! Two of the most experienced long-distance specialists, former German Champions Markus Kaufmann (2012) and Jochen Käß (2010, 2009, 2007), are part of TEAM CENTURION VAUDE. The “A1” team is completed by Austrians Daniel Geismayr (Vice State Marathon Champion 2013) and new addition Hermann Pernsteiner (U23 Vice European Champion 2011) as well as another newcomer to TCV, Matthias Pfrommer, who, at the same time, is an important member of our development department. As in the previous years, team manager Richard Dämpfle is focusing at the same time on a high-quality foundation that, as the “A2” team, is primarily to ensure similar successes in the major German marathons. Now, after five years of this extremely pleasant cooperation, we can sum up with conviction: TEAM CENTURION VAUDE with its relaxed but ambitious self-conception is proving to be a complete success – for this we say thank you and we look forward to the future!

The varied landscape with the wide valley floor, the blossoming alpine landscapes and the imposing panorama with numerous mountains above 3,000 meters invites cyclists to enjoy relaxing rides and to undertake high-level sporting performances. Families and everyone else seeking relaxation appreciate the valley with its situation of between 550 and 650 m above sea level, while ambitious riders can have fun in the magnificent alpine world. A more than 800-kilometer-long bicycle and MTB track network offers both taster rides for beginners and spectacular routes for action fans. The Black Forest Germany’s Central Mountain Range No. 1 Germany’s highest and biggest continuous central mountain range is an eldorado for cyclists. The elite of road racing train here, as do internationally successful mountain biking stars. Offroad bikers can take advantage of more than 8,500 km of signposted MTB routes, with a rising proportion of singletrails. In any case, the approximately 6,000 square kilometer-large area offers several types of landscape, sometimes more, sometimes less tamed. Grafikeria Racing Team As a newcomer, it is only natural that one wants to reach the top. The “grafikeria racing team powered by muki,” founded in 2011, got there more quickly than expected. With the backing of the agency grafikeria, the Salzkammergut as its home training area and CENTURION as its bike sponsor, the team led by Alexander Savel leaves the competition in its wake and is already one of the best amateur teams in Austria today. Screens, closed rooms, neon lights… this increasingly seems to describe the life of a school student. Those who ride a bike from time to time can experience life from a whole different perspective and in the end even learn something that cannot be imparted either with a blackboard and chalk or with a laptop. With this in mind, CENTURION is supporting the Project Bikepool of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports of Baden Württemberg (managed by the State Institute for School Sports, School Art and School Music). If a school is willing to make cycling a school activity, it can obtain suitable material by means of the project. The project, which has been running since 2003, supplies suitable bicycles to approximately 70 schools in 61 locations in cooperation with specialist dealers and several manufacturers, including CENTURION. Thanks to their diversity, the mountain bikes can be used for a wide variety of activities, from rides to school championships, in leisure and technology project groups, even in physical education, biology or physics lessons. “The aim here is not merely to add a current piece of sports equipment to those already available at the school,” says Julia Sahm, who manages the project on the schools side. “It is about reoccupying oneself with one’s environment – developing oneself and one’s skills by means of the ‘bicycle’ as a piece of sports equipment.” Our Backfire 100 is frequently used in the project. Hubert Schwarz Always in the Saddle for a Good Cause When one looks at Hubert Schwarz’ list of accomplishments on a bike, it is clear that an exceptionally motivated person is behind them. Anyone who meets the sportsman in person also finds out that he is also a moving personality. At his most active times, the man from Nuremberg cycled around the world a total of two times and set several records. He most recently added another one in 2014 in the legendary Race Across America with the distance record in 60+ age category in a team of four – with the support of CENTURION. 1. “Stack-to-Reach“ means: Depending on category, it is difficult to compare different models only on the sheer basis of the tube dimensions. For example, an MTB with a frame size perfectly matching its rider at once features e. g. other seat-tube and head-tube lengths than a road bike. The definition of the “Stack-to-Reach” (STR) ratio eliminates this problem. “Stack” always means the height of the imaginary vertical line running through the bottom bracket at the intersection point with the “Reach”. The latter is defined as the length of an imaginary horizontal line running through the upper end of the head tube.

2. Character depending on “Stack-to-Reach” Regardless of a bike’s category, the “Stack-toReach“ ratio is the essential factor defining its character. The bigger the STR ratio, the better the seating comfort on the respective model. Vice versa: The smaller the STR ratio, the more sporty the bike’s design. The corresponding problem: Within the range of a single bike variant, the STR ratio can change with increasing frame size – and therefore alters the bike’s entire character. For instance: if an MTB in frame size 46 is designated as “sporty” by bike magazines, it theoretically might be less sporty and thus more comfortable in frame size 56.

3. CENTURION optimizes “Stack-to-Reach“ Providing each and every rider with the same positive experience on their bike is the daily business of our experienced R&D experts. From MY 2015 on, they therefore work successively on the meticulous optimization of the “Stack-to-Reach” ratio within our CENTURION model range. So the STR development/grading between the single available sizes is always optimized as far as this is maximally reasonable for keeping up the respective bike character.
