German MTB Pioneers. Passion for Design, Perfection and Quality The Ziller Valley Bike Challenge definitely ranges among the toughest bikes adventures of the Alps: About 200 km within three days, garnished with an altitude difference of 10.000 m. In 2011, I absolved this adventure on a 26” hardtail; this year, I returned on our brand-new E-Twentyniner for test purposes. Probably most surprising: Those who tackle the Ziller Valley with sheer muscle power don’t consider e-bikers as “wimps”. Exactly the opposite seems to be true: On the road, I caught several longing and envious glances from other riders – especially during the steepest uphills. My e-bike forced me to focus also on careful “accumulator management”. Almost nothing would be more embarrassing than being stranded without energy in the middle of nowhere – and then having to take home a bike with powerless drivetrain technology. Because some part of the additional power is directly compensated by the e-bike’s additional weight. All those who want to explore extreme trails should also carry along a replacement accumulator (completely charged) which means some extra kilos as well.
smoothness, the additional weight is perceptible only during uphills in a sense. And primarily then, the support system helps to treat the own “pump” with care and to keep the pulse below alarm level. My personal conclusion after this test? I love my bike sport the pure way. Therefore last year’s ordeal comparatively felt more “authentic” to me. On the other hand: Who really wants a car without an ABS braking system today? Without ESP or all those additional electronic helpers? Anyway, I’m sure: Our e-bike will delight many passionate cycling fans with some truly unique experiences which might otherwise be impossible due to lack of training or courage. As Albert Einstein said in 1930, “Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance, you must keep moving.” In this spirit, Wolfgang Renner
Fortunately, the charge indicator works very precisely. So one is always aware. From the outset, I saved as much power as possible – also because I want to move myself during cycling. Over long distances, the 29er proved its virtues: unswayable directional stability, excellent grip on gravel and a totally safe feeling especially during downhills. Thanks to the superb running

CENTURION Retrospection Our great deeds
Pioneering spirit The history of CENTURION is closely connected with the history of the company founder: Wolfgang Renner is a racing athlete, adventurer and visionary. If as multiple German Cross Champion, Alpine Crossing pioneer, “first mountain
The story starts in 1976: In Magstadt (Swabia), the Nowack KG Radsportartikel is founded as distributor for CENTURION racing frames and Japanese components. In 1979, BMX is in the focus: With top material and great commitment, CENTURION supports contests and course construction. In 1980, CENTURION CEO Wolfgang Renner discovers an MTB prototype in the USA and adapts it for Europe. In doing so, CENTURION presents the study of Germany’s first MTB – which conquers the bike show as serial model “Country” already in 1982! In 1984, the “Accordo” is introduced as the world’s first trekking bike (genre mix between road/off-road bike). In 1987, Wolfgang Renner is among the first bikers on the roof of the world. His bike “Lhasa-Kathmandu” is specifically created for that Tibet trip. It’s 1991: Nowack becomes the CENTURION Renner KG which proves at the European Bike Contest 1993 (2nd Rank for “Groundbreaking Innovation in Bike Building”) that touring bikes can be turned into everyday versions or MTBs in no time at all. In 1994, CENTURION enters the triathlon scene: At the Ironman on Hawaii, Thomas Hellriegel rides his new “Overdrive” to a record which is still valid today. In 1996, CENTURION stops full-suspension bobbing: The “No Pogo” wins the European Bike Contest. 1997: Again 1st Rank at the European Bike Contest for the trekking bike “Cross Comfort”; the “No Pogo” becomes “Bike of the Year”. In 1998, the “No Pogo Eurofighter” (European components only) scores the same success. In 1999, the “Bike” magazine editors have to invent a new top evaluation (“superb”) for the “No Pogo Comp”. And no less than three bikes rush into the top ranks of the “MountainBIKE” readers’ poll. In 2000, a new global dream team is created: Taiwan’s

second-largest bike manufacturer MERIDA cooperates with CENTURION for the development and production of premium bikes. Already in 2001, the co-production “LRS” is presented as a totally new type of rearstay suspension. Enthused experts call LRS “the most important innovation of the year”. In 2004, “MountainBIKE” joins in: The Numinis 1000 with LRS and hydro-formed frame is the “Surprise of the Year” – evaluation: “Outstanding”. The Numinis even wins the “Baden-Wuerttemberg International Design Award” in 2006.
2013: our Twentyninerbikes Backfire Carbon Ultimate.29 (lower picture) and Numinis Carbon Ultimate Race.29 represent the high stage of development of our about 80 models broad product range.
2006: CENTURION celebrates the 30th company anniversary, in 2007 also “25 Years of German MTB”. In 2008, CENTURION expands to Switzerland, Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg; then also to Poland and Japan. From 2009, CENTURION delights ladies with female-specific “EVE” bikes; in 2010, CENTURION enters the enduro scene with a sensation called “Trailbanger”. One year later, e-bikes are in the general centre of attention: The “EFire” is introduced and wins Silver at the international design award “Focus Open 2011”. Most recently: In 2012, there are new carbon MTBs, the 29” E-MTB “Backfire E.29”, a new “Gigadrive” road racer… and the firm intention to carry on making history.

Design Beauty with honours Since CENTURION introduced the model “Country” as Germany’s first serial-production MTB in 1982, the bike brand of company founder and Alpine Cross pioneer Wolfgang Renner has been representing not only very innovative and technically convincing products, but especially bikes with an exquisite design as well. Because notwithstanding all passionate Swabian love for technical perfection and the continuous striving for extraordinary reliability, one important aspect is also obvious: Already at very first sight, a bike has to reveal its inner strength – the genes of a genuine CENTURION. To be able to offer our customers really individual bikes with every model, the CENTURION designers create the very first drafts in close cooperation with one of Germany’s leading design specialists: Meanwhile, Slogdesign (based in Biberach, Upper Swabia) has made multiple successful contributions to the fact that CENTURION bikes have won internationally renowned design awards and are still nominated in the context of different competitions. For example, already the design study of the CENTURION pedelec “E-Fire” has made this model a nominee for the “International Design Award Focus Open 2011”. Right now, we are very happy about the award “Focus Open 2012 in Silver” for our carbon race bike “Backfire Carbon Ultimate 3.29” and about our “E-Fire’s” renomination for the “German Design Award 2013”. But what are highest honours for our designers if the really relevant audience (in other words: you as our customers!) doesn’t like the bike in the end? That’s why CENTURION design basically has a pragmatic character: Only products with genuine additional value will finally be able

Creative freedom Flowing tube shapes and organic design language emphasize the closeto-nature attitude of each CENTURION bike. Especially carbon frames demonstrate the symbiotic connection between design and function: Their numerous design options provide a lot of creative freedom.
Design meets function When product designers
to establish themselves. “Form follows function” is an oftencited maxim of design theory. And because the CENTURION designers cooperate that closely with the R&D engineers, this approach is consistently realized with every new development. An example: Obviously, internal cable routing provides the bike with a very “clean” visual appearance. But definitely much more important is the fact that the routing within the frame protects the cables from dirt and moisture. Technical priority and effectiveness of this kind also apply accordingly e. g. to hydroformed aluminium tubes, post-mount brake brackets and many other bike elements. Award-winning beauty and technical reliability – a combined requirement CENTURION is pleased to meet.
and engineers cooperate closely, functionally adequate design is created – as in case of our new Trailbanger whose cables are routed internally for elegant look and best possible protection.

Development Perfection by meticulousness Generally, you can expect a lot of different things from your bicycle: If you’re a tour biker, reliability without restrictions is probably on top of your personal priority list. Road racers with competitive ambitions rather focus on low weight and high stiffness. MTB riders with a strong passion for full “downhill fun” primarily want, of course, a chassis with premium performance. But no matter which specific aspects you may demand: The fulfilment of all imaginable wishes is ensured by the CENTURION R&D department which designs, draws and discusses each and every bike before the respective prototype is built, tested (in practice as well as on test benches) and finally authorized for high-quality serial production. Since 2011, the own long-time experiences of our competent R&D specialists have also been benefitting from the firsthand feedback given by the TEAM CENTURION VAUDE around Markus Kaufmann (reigning German Marathon Champion). This bike squad from Lake Constance especially absolves long cycling distances in a delightfully fast and therefore successful way. In addition, the TEAM CENTURION VAUDE generates highly valuable R&D knowledge by pushing our bikes to the performance limit again and again. An enormous effort? Yes, for sure – but in our opinion just sufficient to ensure that you are completely content with you CENTURION bike. At the beginning of each development objective, specifically trained R&D engineers create a blueprint (engineering drawing) by means of cutting-edge 3D software applications. During this project stage, the CENTURION developers discuss, for instance, the geometric character of the future bike – or where compliance with certain dimensions (e. g. for a specific tire width) is mandatory. this point, factors like target weight or design are totally irrelevant: All efforts and ideas still focus on sheer function. As soon as a consensus has been found, a very first prototype is produced – admittedly only rarely a beautiful representative of the bike-to-be. But nevertheless, this prototype is completely ridable and is checked, on that score, down to the very last detail by the R&D experts and the athletes of the TEAM CENTURION VAUDE. Especially with regard to full-suspension MTBs, this project stage is extremely important: It involves the testing of different chassis configurations to find out which specific set-up finally exerts the maximum potential of the chassis. This elaborate process takes different amounts of time and does not end until all involved persons are completely convinced. In doing so, often a lot of prototypes are “worn down” while being modified again and again. Simultaneously, the field tests go along with ultra-tough load tests on technical test benches: In accordance with the strict “tour” standard, each prototype’s stiffness and comfort data are analyzed meticulously. During the long-time loading (several days), the material must prove to be reliable and useable without any restrictions. Only after all engineer standards have been observed in an obligatory way, the tools for the later serial production of the frames are commissioned – and the manufacturing of your CENTURION dream bike can finally begin.
tions become new bike models which are ready for serial production, the CENTURION R&D engineers always test them extensively over a long period. Our in-house testing machines meet the internationally established “tour” standard.

Carbon-Technology Lightweight design: Functional and beautiful Carbon fascinates! If road racer or MTB: Wherever the hightech material is utilized, bikers’ hearts beat faster immediately. “Carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic” (CFRP), as the “black gold” of the bike scene is called officially, enables the production of light, stiff and beautiful frames. But first of all, carbon can be modelled into almost all imaginable shapes which gives bike designers a lot of functional options. At the same time, carbon processing is very complex and therefore also attests the competence of the developers: Before the carbon material can be utilized successfully, a well-considered engineering effort is always necessary – e. g. when it has to be defined which fibres shall be used for specific bike parts or how the single sections shall be finally connected (in case that the frame is not a one-piece “monocoque” version). For Season 2013, CENTURION offers three categories of carbon bikes: Road machines, MTB fullies and MTB hardtails. In this context, our road rocket Gigadrive as well as the 100 mm tour fully Numinis Carbon.29 are completely new developments which benefit from our R&D experts’ comprehensive experiences with the MTB hardtails Backfire Carbon/Backfire Carbon.29 (both still available) and the aero racer Megadrive. Especially the utilization of the Twentyniner hardtail Backfire Carbon Ultimate 3.29 as official working tool of the successful marathon squad TEAM CENTURION VAUDE has generated valuable first-hand feedback from the athletes. This is a great benefit for the development of all further carbon bikes – and therefore especially for you in the end. As a basic principle, all CENTURION carbon bikes consist of an intelligent material mix which includes Ultra High Modulus (UHM),

Technology
Material science Carbon as frame material enables the realization of exciting shapes: The carbon fibre mats can be used in almost any way – provided that the developers and designers have comprehensive know-how and experience. This freedom is brilliantly represented by our new tour fully Numinis Float Carbon.29 and by the new Gigadrive which will enthuse all passionate road racers.
High Modulus (HM) and Intermediate (IM) carbon fibres. These three fibre types differ individually with regard to their technical characteristics (such as stiffness, stability, fracture strain or damping). That’s why they are always specifically and optimally selected for the respective frame part’s load profile. The respective place of use also decides about the question how many single fibre mats are stacked on top of each other and about the angle in which the fibre courses are aligned against each other. Therefore it can easily be understood that e. g. the transition between bottom bracket and down tube (independent of the bike type) receives other physical loads than e. g. the centre section of the top tube. The fact that high-quality carbon frames are predominantly manufactured by hand is often underrated. That’s why CENTURION exclusively cooperates with renowned and experienced suppliers whose carbon know-how and production standards match the premium level of our in-house R&D department. The socalled laminating of the carbon mats in their specifically prepared moulds requires a lot of competence and experience. As a matter of course, the same applies to the final assembly of the single construction components after the latter have been “baked” in the high-performance furnace. Light, stiff and beautiful – so please enjoy CENTURION’s 2013 carbon models Gigadrive, Megadrive, Numinis Carbon.29, Backfire Carbon and Backfire Carbon.29.

VPP The virtual pivot point for real top performance When the experienced CENTURION R&D specialists developed the 160 mm MTB enduro Trailbanger, they faced a new but fascinating challenge: The “Float” suspension system (wellproven part of all Numinis model versions) had already reached its limits with the 140 mm All-Mountain bike No Pogo. Thus a sophisticated new concept was necessary for further and effective extension of the CENTURION suspension travel range. An optimum solution was found in form of a multi-pivot rearstay concept which was successfully realized by means of many interlinked CAD designs. In contrast to conventional single-pivot constructions, the rearstay of such a bike does not move circularly under load. Instead, it moves around a “Virtual Pivot Point” (VPP). In terms of kinematics, this specific behaviour provides the R&D experts with more creative options: Important aspects like chassis sensitivity, drivetrain-neutrality and braking performance can be taken into better account. As a result, the impressive CENTURION interpretation of the “Virtual Pivot Point” concept delights with superb effectiveness and top-level sensitivity. On the other hand, it lacks the typical and annoying “bobbing tendencies” known from long-travel chassis so far. In addition, the special connection between main frame and rearstay neutralizes almost all brake influences. This means that the pilot enjoys a completely active chassis also during braking – absolutely essential when genuine enduro terrain shows its really rough side! Comprehensive testing of the new rearstay revealed that this innovative concept is also brilliantly suitable for 140 mm chassis constructions. Therefore the CENTURION R&D department has transferred the VPP to the All-Mountain model

New geometry Already at first sight, the new Trailbanger design for MY 2013 reveals a lot of successful re-engineering: The enduro’s geometry has been modified considerably. Besides a lower BB position and a steeper seating angle, the Trailbanger of the new model year especially offers more travel (increased by 10 mm) at the front now. In addition, there are some fine configuration details such as a lowerable seatpost with internal cable routing (depending on model version).
No Pogo as well. So all CENTURION MTB fullies with 140 mm or bigger suspension travel benefit from the advantages of our “Virtual Pivot Point” kinematics now. Drivetrain influences during pedalling are especially relevant in the sector of bikes with “downhill-orientated” character: The chain pull contracts most full-suspension systems more or less to a certain extent. This causes wheel bobbing while propulsion becomes perceptibly inefficient. But this phenomenon can be minimized successfully by intelligently constructed kinematics – as demonstrated excellently by the CENTURION R&D specialists! Such a chassis concept works without any “anti-bobbing” additions (via platform shocks) and performs highly sensitive in every imaginable situation. Another great plus: Reversed pedal rotation (also known as pedal recoil) during suspension compression is almost not perceptible. Besides drivetrain influences, the developers of long-travel bikes have to eliminate troublesome brake influences as well: During the utilization of the rear brake, torque occurs at the rearstay. In case of conventional single-pivot constructions, this inevitably results in suspension compression and chassis rigidity. In contrast, the CENTURION rearstay hardly turns under load thanks to our VPP interpretation – the occurring torque hardens the suspension to a considerably lesser degree. The system remains totally sensitive and always guarantees superb contact between tire and terrain. This provides maximum brake force transmission in every situation – for maximum safety!

Float Link Sensitive and drivetrain-neutral For many years, CENTURION MTBs have been famous for their original LRS rearstay system: Thanks to its special transmission ratio, the reliable “Low Ratio Suspension” carried its pilots along the trails in a sensitive and drivetrain-neutral way. Furthermore, this unique solution was also durable and required only low maintenance. But already since MY 2012, CENTURION has abandoned all LRS fullies and has been trusting exclusively in the “Float Link” technology instead – so far a wise decision? Without any restriction: Yes! Because the new tour fullies from our Numinis series do definitely not waive the impressive advantages of a supported single-pivot construction as known from LRS. Instead, they extend these great benefits by the relevant factor of a once-again enhanced suitability for daily use. Because: In contrast to CENTURION’s well-known “Low Ratio Suspension” rearstay system, our new “Float Link” bikes exclusively feature shocks with standard installation lengths – equally in the case of 26” and 29” model versions. Basically, both suspension systems are comparable in terms of function and share several amazing advantages (e. g. with regard to response). Nevertheless, the new “Float Link” offers another convenient plus: For maintenance/ repair purposes, bike retailers do not have to stock shocks and other necessary replacement parts specifically manufactured for CENTURION any more. Instead, they can choose from their usual standard assortments. A brilliant benefit – surely not only for MTB riders who follow the trails of CENTURION CEO Wolfgang Renner across the Alps. At first sight, our “Float Link” rearstay system seems to be very similar to a quad-pivot construction. However, the CENTURION “Float Link” rearstay finally bases on an intelli-

gent single-pivot concept with supported shock mount: Rearstay and main frame are linked via a single pivot. At the same time, a rocker link connects the shock with the seat stays. Main advantage of such a rearstay concept is its generally simple layout with only few maintenance respectively service points. While conventional and unsupported single-pivot systems often lack convincing rearstay stiffness, the latter is perceptibly enhanced by the “Float Link” shock support. The CENTURION “Float Link” rearstay moves circularly under suspension compression and responds very sensitively also to weaker surface impacts. But thanks to its specific and sophisticated concept, this reliable construction delights with premium drivetrain-neutrality as far as possible – even without any platform-damped suspension elements!

E-Bikes Movement for everybody In our modern world, electric bikes are a real blessing: They are able to combine all relevant aspects of the simple system “bicycle” (especially in terms of health and environmental sustainability) with cutting-edge technology in a unique way. In doing so, e-bikes manage to make the great benefits of cycling accessible to an even bigger number of people. Because with conventional bikes, it’s sometimes too difficult to transport shopping items home from the city or to absolve the way to office in suit and tie without perspiration. Furthermore, the essential health training in older years can be – especially depending on the respective location’s topography – too intensive or exhausting on a conventional bike without effective support. Therefore e-bikes offer a superb solution for these and many other cycling occasions. And because the demands with regard to e-bikes are generally very different, CENTURION proudly presents an extended and revised range of so-called “pedelecs” for MY 2013. Pedelecs are a subcategory of e-bikes. Already the name reveals their character: The “pedalling” is supported “electrically”. Therefore pedelecs are not self-propelled – instead, they amplify the pilot’s pedal power. In case of the Bosch drivetrain unit utilized by CENTURION, this support ranges between 30 and 250 % (depending on the selected mode) at a maximum torque of 50 Nm. Thanks to new technology, the high-quality accumulator delights with two impressive capacity options now (300 or even 400 Wh). Also new from 2013 are the four riding modes “Eco”, “Tour”, “Sport” and “Turbo”. The reliable electric system is controlled via a handlebar interface in “speedometer style” which also displays useful information such as the remaining cruising range. In addi-

Many innovations For MY 2013, the CENTURION product portfolio includes not only a brand-new E-MTB (Backfire E.29) but also reengineered Bosch components for all pedelec models. New accumulators with even more capacity as well as the new control centre “Intuvia” with considerably extended scope of function and information are ideal complements to the powerful electric engine (still nominally 250 W, max. 50 Nm) also made by Bosch.
tion, the easily readable display indicates important journey data like speed or distance. New for 2013: The interface can be controlled remotely via a thumb switch – the pilot’s hand can remain at the grip. Moreover, the interface called “Intuvia” works perfectly in the demounted state as well. It also offers the convenient possibility to power e. g. a smartphone via USB and can thus be utilized as comfortable navigation device for touring. As another great plus for the new model year, the Bosch system includes a highly effective pushing aid. But a pedelec’s technology wins not even half the battle with regard to the bicycle’s overall performance: In fact, the bike itself is always the decisive factor for the overall impression. With sporty tourers, low-entry models and also a sophisticated Twentyniner MTB as a premiere for 2013, CENTURION offers premium e-bikes for almost all imaginable application ranges. All model versions feature a torsion-resistant aluminium frame which allows for agile and sporty cycling. This approach is supported by the powerful e-engine in central position below the bottom bracket. Especially in case of our E-MTBs, this intelligent mounting position ensures maximum ground clearance and safety. Depending on the respective application range, there are always optimally adapted tires, adequate braking systems, different shifting options or a completely RTA-compliant configuration. Because with CENTURION pedelecs, the future begins already today.

Twentyniner The great plus for mountain bikes
Although their trend status is long gone for sure: Twentyniners are discussed among bikers as intensively as on day one. Some riders guess that the new generation of mountain bikes will completely replace the original 26” concept one day. At the same time, many other cyclists still refuse 29ers due to alleged disadvantages in terms of system functionality and weight. But meanwhile, the truth is – as so often – somewhere between. Big-wheeled bikes offer some unquestionable physical advantages. When a 29” wheel rolls e. g. over roots or rocks, it hits the obstacle in a comparatively flatter angle and is retarded to a lesser extent. Thus less energy is necessary to master the obstacle. What seems to be only “dry” physical terminology is just “smooth” for the rider: Even 29” hardtails often evoke the riding feeling of a fully. The bigger wheels utilize the same advantage when they roll through the bumps of uneven surfaces: A bigger wheel means less dip – also in this case, a 29er benefits from reduced retarding and the therefore reduced energy expenditure that is necessary to manage the respective riding situation. Third advantage for an entry into a book about physics: At identic BB height (measured from the ground), a Twentyniner’s BB is positioned comparatively lower in relation to the imaginary axis between front and rear wheel hub. Result of this larger “BB drop”: Especially on steep ascents, the rear wheel gets more traction while wheelspin tends to occur at a later point of time. Thus the pilot perceives a lower tendency for “front-end rise”. During steep downhills, the same applies vice versa: The dreaded feeling of flipping over the handlebar occurs later as well. These 29er advantages are especially a great benefit for riders whose technical skills are less advanced.
20
Technology
Twentyniners also offer advantages with respect to a hardtail’s comfort: Longer seat and chain stays mean more flex while the larger tire volume provides improved shock absorption. And the disadvantages? There are some, no question – such as the slightly higher additional weight or the minimally more lethargic wheelset. But nevertheless, especially long-distance bikers will finally recognize a Twentyniner as better concept for their individual purposes.
Bigger, better, more: › Longer wheel base and longer chain stays for more running smoothness – plus more comfort and traction: A 29er’s geometry offers many convincing advantages (illustration not true to scale).
A  Good for great fun: The bigger wheels dive less deep into bruises.

B  Bigger wheel, smaller angle: The wheels of a Twentyniner bike become less decelerated at obstacles and therefore master them much better.

Backfire Fit Fitness for everyone
The term “fitness” is omnipresent these days. “Being fit” seems to be more important than ever. Some people even declare the mountain bike to be an appropriate instrument to obtain fitness in a pleasurable and successful way. Rightly so! But what about those who are just standing at the beginning of this way? Those who want to get “fit”, but are still lacking this healthy state at the moment? Those who don’t feel very comfortable on all too sportive bikes with speed-oriented geometry, flat cockpit and a stretched seating position? The answer is simple and closer as you might think: He – or, with pleasure, she – rides a “Fit” also known as CENTURION Backfire Fit and trusts in the thoughtful engineering skills of our complete R&D expert team whose leisure time has still not begun after planning, designing, drawing and constructing our two-wheelers made and intended for cyclists with quintessentially sportive ambitions. Since a Backfire Fit with its “smoother” characteristics does not have to hide behind our athlete-oriented mountain bikes for sure – no way! This would be truly peculiar!
character. Primarily, we have “lowered” the seating position to achieve this objective: Thanks to BB lowering by 2 cm and a slightly flatter seating angle, the FIT series has a more moderate geometry. Together with the slightly longer head tube, this results in a seating position which is more upright than that of “conventional” mountain bikes – but still without geometric analogies to trekking or city bikes. Desired side effect: When stopping at traffic lights or interesting sights, the rider’s feet are always able to touch the ground in a safe and timely manner – another concession our developers made to the special genes of the Backfire Fit series. Moreover, getting in and off the saddle is easier due to the stronger top tube slope towards the seat tube.
A Top tube length Backfire Fit 585 mm
In 2011, we offer no fewer than three Backfire Fit models. All FITs follow their special geometry while the version 100 is also available as lady bike with even lower step-through frame – to guarantee that absolutely nothing obstructs your way to individual fitness!

EVE Lady Bikes Optimum framework requirements for “her” It is no secret that women differ from men in many respects: Their cognition and thinking as well as, consequently, also their actions and reasoning follow different patterns. And not just since yesterday, it is known that also the female anatomy has a very own character – although the latter seems to be basically identical to the male “version” except for all obvious and immediately perceptible differences. But one characteristic is shared by men and women in equal measure: The desire to have fun! And when “he” or “she” rides a bike for this purpose at the latest, one could assume that both genders pursue an identical way to an identical destination. But far from it! It’s a common but big mistake to think that female and male cyclists are able to enjoy the same fun on the same bikes: An anatomically different pelvis requires different “seating contact” to the bike while narrower shoulders call for a correspondingly narrower cockpit – in the best case also equipped with brake and shifting levers which can be reached optimally also by shorter fingers. All those and a lot of other aspects are regarded by the CENTURION EVE series. No matter if mountain bike, road machine or sportive crosser: In our opinion, a genuine “lady line” does not only
involve female decoration features and colour designs, but first and foremost “framework requirements” which are literally and consistently tailored to ladies’ specific demands. Besides suspension system elements being adapted to lower pilot weight, especially the EVE MTB geometry is a real eye-catcher: At identical frame size and corresponding rear stay dimensions, a slightly shorter top tube goes hand in hand with a comparatively higher cockpit position. This combination results in a still very sportive but also slightly more upright and therefore more relaxed seating position. In addition, top tube bend and BB lowering (5 mm) provide safe ground contact for the feet at every stop. Very down-to-earth, isn’t it?
A Top tube length EVE 575 mm
Our EVE mountain bikes also feature tires with lower rolling resistance, specifically adapted grips/levers and shorter saddles with wider rear sections. These top optimizations are also typical for our lady cross bike and our road machine for female velocity lovers. Eventually, we can summarize them in one simple formula: Maximum comfort + maximum cycling fun = 100 % CENTURION!

Numinis.29 29er Marathon / Tour
Full Suspension Specific suspension travel for each terrain The “big Twentyniner brother” of our well-proven tour fully Numinis delights with all impressive advantages of the latter – and offers perceptibly more traction plus once-again-enhanced running smoothness in addition. For MY 2013, our Numinis.29 is also available as even lighter and stiffer carbon version or as high-end variant “Race XTR” – likewise with 120 mm front suspension travel and 100 mm “Float Link” rearstay. Two frame versions for 2013 (carbon or aluminium) Suspension travel front/rear: 120/100 mm ■ “Float Link” rearstay ■ Fork and shock lockable (some models: from the cockpit) ■ Brake disc size front/rear: 180/180 mm ■ Direct-mount derailleur, post-mount brake bracket ■ “Tapered Steerer” (increase: 1 1/8“–1.5“) ■ 3x10-speed Shimano drivetrain ■ ■

Trailbanger Enduro
Tour fullies of the 120 mm category are rightly considered as the “Swiss pocket knife” among the MTBs: They are light enough for uphills of low mountain ranges or alpine crossings – and also propulsion-orientated as well as provided with top downhill potential. The well-proven aluminium version of our Numinis remains the 26” bike of choice for all riders who don’t want to follow the 29” trend. New for 2013: Internal cable routing.
Even if “flowy” downhill trailsurfing over challenging obstacles might be your main motivation for getting in the MTB saddle regularly: You are definitely not afraid of ascents – and rightly so! Because not at least thanks to the CENTURION rearstay with Virtual Pivot Point, our 150 mm bikes are neither too heavy nor too uncomfortable to be pedalled uphill. New frame with internal cable routing for MY 2013.
Consistently designed to approach the fall line as closely as possible – and revised for 2013! Now, highly absorptive 170 mm at the Trailbanger’s front neutralize even roughest roots. Also daring drops from challenging ledges are mastered without being “banged up” literally. Due to the lower bottom bracket and the steeper seating angle, the new geometry delights with even more playfulness once again. New as well: Internal cable routing.

Backfire.29 29er Cross-Country / Marathon
MTB Hardtails Between sprint power and comfort
The carbon version of our Backfire.29 has become the very successful working tool of the TEAM CENTURION VAUDE. And also the aluminium variant is still fast enough for marathon athletes. At the same time, the Twentyniner offers increased comfort and especially a lot of uphill traction – plus superb directional stability and safe cornering grip. Its pilot rolls over obstacles with “fully feeling”. 100 mm front suspension travel (some models: lockable; remote lockout from the cockpit) ■ Two frame versions (carbon or aluminium) ■ Specific “Sport“ aluminium frame with sportily adapted geometry ■ “Sport” and carbon frames with “Tapered Steerer” (increase: 1 1/8”–1.5”) ■ Brake disc size front/rear: 180/180 mm ■ “Sport” and carbon frames with Shimano “Press Fit“ bottom bracket ■ Optionally 3x9- or 3x10-speed Shimano drivetrain ■

Overview MTB Hardtails
Backfire Cross-Country
Backfire FIT Comfort
EVE Lady Bikes
R’Bock Youth & Kids
MTB hardtails with 100 mm suspension travel and propulsion-orientated geometry are nothing else than pure pieces of sports equipment with a design trimmed towards speed. Especially if they consist of stiff and light carbon like our racing rocket Backfire Carbon. And the aluminium versions? They delight with the same character but offer more options for individual tuning. Because racing always means refinement.
No, you’re not looking for that ultimate kick. And you don’t favour mandatory couch surfing due to severe backache after every longer tour. Your bike is an always reliable partner for the extensive exploration of nature’s beautiful flora and fauna along rivers or lakes. What you require – and desire! – is a comfortable CENTURION hardtail with genuine “wellness” geometry and low need for maintenance.
Also in MY 2013, CENTURION is still convinced that MTB-loving ladies should enjoy their own product series. And because big-wheeled Twentyniners become more and more important especially within the hardtail sector, our portfolio has been extended by two 29” models. Result: There are six EVE hardtails for passionate female bikers now – of course freely selectable according to your individual needs.
Entirely cool: Thanks to CENTURION, also kids and youngsters are able to enjoy rides on “grownup” bikes. Our product program motivates passionate cycling already in younger years: From 12” learner bikes and 16” versions up to 20” or 24” MTBs with derailleur systems, no wish remains unfulfilled. And parents will appreciate the pleasant feeling of having made the right choice – top-level CENTURION quality!

Übersicht Cross & Urban
Cyclo Cross
Cross Speed
City Speed
You’re really tough! You dash down steepest root passages on rough terrain while some All-Mountain riders are still thinking about “try with lowered saddle” or “get off the bike and push”. You love and live the true challenge. You’re a no-compromise athlete to the core, a genuine Cyclo Cross pilot! Or you need an ultra-robust road-racer substitute for your winter training – but in any case a CENTURION Cyclo Cross!
Do you like to cycle as swiftly as a real road racer? Does your individual urban hunt for velocity even involve successful traffic-light quickstarts against motor scooters? Then you need a bike with fast tires, propulsion-orientated drivetrain and a geometry which allows ultra-flat “ducking” against the headwind if required: Our great Cross Speed models are virtually road machines with linear handlebars!
They represent the purest form of cycling and a kind of common spirit which unites all bikers: The CENTURION City Speed 1 gets along with one single gear. Its fascination bases on the approach that a bike needs nothing else than the pilot who is moving it. And if you favour the single-speeder design more than the missing shifting system: We offer a model version with eight gears as well.
New in MY 2013: Exlusively disc-brake model versions with 160 mm rotors ■ Slim and comfortably flexing seatpost (27.2 mm) ■ 32 mm cross tires ■ 2x10-speed Shimano drivetrain ■
Many shifting-system options: 3x9-, 3x10- or 2x10-speed Shimano drivetrain ■ 32 mm tires with special tread for low rolling resistance ■ Slim and comfortably flexing seatpost (27.2 mm) ■ Light V-brakes ■
Single speeder with flip-flop hub and “fixed gear” (“fixie”) option ■ Model version with 8-speed gear hub ■ 32 mm tires with special tread for low rolling resistance ■ Slim and comfortably flexing seatpost (27.2 mm) ■ Light V-brakes ■
