THE BREATHTAKING POSSIBILITIES OF PLAY After five years of hard work and anticipation, Minnesota Children’s Museum of Rochester (MCMR) opened its doors on April 5, 2012 to parents and children eager to explore the long-awaited museum. Rochester was chosen as the Museum's first satellite location because of its high number of young families and the groundswell of community support generated by the former Children's Museum of Rochester Board of Directors, which now functions as MCMR's advisory board. Thanks to generous support from the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund of the Legacy Amendment, the opening of a satellite museum in Rochester realizes Minnesota Children’s Museum’s goal of reaching more children across the state with high-quality play and learning experiences. Less than a year after opening, MCMR has exceeded initial projections for attendance, membership sales and contributed revenue, proving the community need, desire and demand for a children’s museum in one of Minnesota’s fastest growing cities. 2
