The commissioner has further political aspirations, likely replacing Gov. Newsom. He doesn’t want to be seen by voters as siding with insurance companies and premium increases. That has him between a rock and a hard place. Homeowners have suffered the consequences. My resolution for our state legislators would include: Cut spending rather than adopt new taxes to balance the budget. Assembly Bill 257 imposes an annual wealth tax of 1.5% on the net worth of high net-

worth California residents. About 40% of the state’s revenue already comes from the top 1% of income earners. The proposed wealth tax will drive more high-income earners to other states. My resolution for Jerome Powell, chairman of the Federal Reserve: Stop hammering the housing market by increasing interest rates. The Federal Reserve has other tools in its toolbox besides interest rates to ratchet down infl ation. The housing market has been unfairly targeted.

Selling off big chunks of the Fed’s $5.2 trillion in mortgagebacked securities or paying less interest on $5.8 trillion of deposits from commercial bank accounts would tighten the money supply, reducing infl ation without severely impacting home sales. The Fed should declare victory in its war against infl ation and lighten up interest rates beginning with the February meeting. A quarter-point decrease will help stimulate housing sales by restoring more confidence

in the economy. If infl ation persists, leave interest rates alone and use monetary policy to slow growth. My resolution for El Dorado County’s Planning and Building Department: Implement the suggestions made by El Dorado County’s Grand Jury this last summer. The county’s largest bureaucracy is not known for efficiency or transparency. Routine permits that should take weeks for approval, regularly take months. The department’s staff should

encourage feedback from the public as to how well they are doing by implementing a confidential online survey that folks can complete. The history of people making New Year’s resolutions has been around for about 4,000 years, dating back to the ancient Babylonians. The average person keeps their resolutions for 3.5 months. The commissioner has further political aspirations, likely replacing Gov. Newsom. He doesn’t want to be seen by voters as siding with insurance companies and premium increases. That has him between a rock and a hard place. Homeowners have suffered the consequences. My resolution for our state legislators would include: Cut spending rather than adopt new taxes to balance the budget. Assembly Bill 257 imposes an annual wealth tax of 1.5% on the net worth of high net-

worth California residents. About 40% of the state’s revenue already comes from the top 1% of income earners. The proposed wealth tax will drive more high-income earners to other states. My resolution for Jerome Powell, chairman of the Federal Reserve: Stop hammering the housing market by increasing interest rates. The Federal Reserve has other tools in its toolbox besides interest rates to ratchet down infl ation. The housing market has been unfairly targeted.

Selling off big chunks of the Fed’s $5.2 trillion in mortgagebacked securities or paying less interest on $5.8 trillion of deposits from commercial bank accounts would tighten the money supply, reducing infl ation without severely impacting home sales. The Fed should declare victory in its war against infl ation and lighten up interest rates beginning with the February meeting. A quarter-point decrease will help stimulate housing sales by restoring more confidence

in the economy. If infl ation persists, leave interest rates alone and use monetary policy to slow growth. My resolution for El Dorado County’s Planning and Building Department: Implement the suggestions made by El Dorado County’s Grand Jury this last summer. The county’s largest bureaucracy is not known for efficiency or transparency. Routine permits that should take weeks for approval, regularly take months. The department’s staff should

encourage feedback from the public as to how well they are doing by implementing a confidential online survey that folks can complete. The history of people making New Year’s resolutions has been around for about 4,000 years, dating back to the ancient Babylonians. The average person keeps their resolutions for 3.5 months.
