Cemetery Advisory Committee buried Eric Jaramishian Staff writer

The El Dorado County Board of Supervisors has disbanded the county’s Cemetery Advisory Committee in favor of plans county leaders think will help facilitate proper maintenance of gravesites. A list of actions made by the board during its Feb. 6 meeting include passing the reigns of advisory and hands-on work to the cemetery nonprofit Save the Graves. The group would provide feedback to county staff on problems observed at countymaintained cemeteries. The board will also direct staff to work with Save the Graves collaboratively to recruit volunteers. “It makes sense because these are county assets

“I’m a big believer in sunsetting things that need to be sunset and the Cemetery Advisory Committee is a prime candidate.” — Mike Roberts, Save the Graves president that this volunteer group is promoting and helping preserve and maintain with the funds they get from their events,” Parlin said. Additionally, the county plans to promote the Adopt-a-Cemetery Project, established in 2017 as a way for volunteers to help monitor, maintain and improve cemeteries. ■ See CEMETERIES, page A10

Placerville city staff gets sandwich board orders Sandwich boards are set out in front of businesses on Main Street in Placerville. The city of Placerville intends to work with merchants on a policy for sandwich board advertising. Mountain Democrat photo by Krysten Kellum

Odin Rasco Staff writer

As sandwich board signs proliferate along Main Street and take away walkway space on some stretches of narrower-than-normal sidewalks, Placerville City Council met Tuesday evening to discuss what the city could do to cut down on the clutter. Director of Development Services Pierre Rivas presented a slideshow to the council that included a series of photos taken on Main Street in recent months to illustrate the widespread use of freestanding signs on the street and show how such signs impact foot traffic. ■ See SANDWICH BOARDS, page A9
