Stakeholders hash out Dorado Oaks Eric Jaramishian Staff writer Diamond Springs-El Dorado residents, housing developer Stonehenge LLC and El Dorado County staff met July 21 to discuss ongoing concerns regarding two proposed area projects — Dorado Oaks and Phase 2 of the Diamond Springs Parkway. At the meeting facilitated by the Diamond Springs-El Dorado Committee Advisory Committee at the Board of Supervisors chambers, the public shared concerns with the developer and county staff, citing worries about traffic impacts, fire danger and evacuations and water usage. Stonehenge, who own the property where Dorado Oaks is proposed, wants to build a 142.3-acre residential community with 156 single family homes and 225 multi-family units south of the Highway 49 and Faith Lane intersection. District 3 Supervisor Wendy Thomas, who represents the affected community, presented both sides of the argument by recognizing that the rural community members have concerns their quiet neighborhood will change and also pointing out the county is behind on housing development. No action was taken at the meeting. The Dorado Oaks project is in the environmental review phase with county Planning staff addressing public comments and preparing information for the El Dorado County Planning Commission, which will ultimately make its recommendation to the Board of Supervisors. Staff has until Aug. 5 to address all comments made regarding the project’s environmental impact report. It could take months to finalize staff ’s report and other project documents headed to planning commissioners, noted Planning and Building Director Rob Pierce.
