Supervisors consider formalizing proposed ‘fire tax’ ballot measure Todd R. Hansen THANSEN@DAILYREPUBLIC.NET

FAIRFIELD — The Solano County supervisors on Tuesday will consider introducing the ordinance to place a one-eighth cent, countywide sales tax on the Nov. 8 ballot. The board, on a 4-1 vote with Supervisor Erin Hannigan dissenting, has already approved putting the tax before the voters. The resolution introducing the measure states that the county recognizes the grand jury’s call for additional wildfire pro-

tection funding, but also notes there is “little discretional funds available to address such needs as additional wildfire protection services.” “Solano County can better meet the needs of its population with an additional local source of revenue to fund essential County services . . . a (one-eighth percent) countywide general transactions and use tax (sales tax) would generate an estimated $9 million annually . . . 100% of funds from a local sales tax would remain here in Solano County, overseen by a citi-

zens’ oversight committee, with annual independent audits, and no funds could be taken by the state.” the resolution said.
