FAIRFIELD — Wanda Williams started the Solano County 3rd District Board of Supervisors runoff against Chuck Timm with a slim 288 vote lead from the primary, and carried that advantage through the ballot count Tuesday night. “Just being thankful for the trust of the voters; that they trust me to look after them,” Williams said after the 9:13 p.m. results were posted by the county Registrar of Voters Office. They showed she was leading with 56.3% of the vote. “But we are still waiting . . . on all the rest of the numbers.” Timm also was eagerly waiting for the later counts, and said the later returns will benefit him, and the margin had been shrinking with each update. “We figured that the early returns would favor (Williams) and the later returns would start to favor me,” said Timm, who had 4,446 votes (43.7%) to Williams’ 5,729 votes.

Voters putting match Hernandez poised to ‘fire tax’ measure to become mayor after Brumfield’s short tenure is up THANSEN@DAILYREPUBLIC.NET
FAIRFIELD — Solano County voters were dousing the county’s effort to generate $9 million a year for fire protection and prevention. Measure E, a oneeighth cent countywide general sales tax increase, was losing with 53.31% opposition in the early Tuesday voting. The vote count was 36,388 to 31,870 as of the 10:15 p.m. update from the Solano County Registrar of Voters Office. “The scenario that will play out will be very sad and very tragic,” Supervisor Jim Spering said, the interview taking place prior to the polls closing Tuesday. He said the LNU Lightning Complex Fire came extremely close to burning homes in Vacav-
ille and Fairfield, and the next wildfire could reach the cities. Supervisor John Vasquez, who along with Spering fronted the effort to get the measure on the ballot, could not be reached for comment late Tuesday night. Spering, who will be leaving the board at the end of the year, said the special districts and the city fire departments are going to have work together moving forward, developing some kind of plan with the existing resources. But the county “cannot sit on the sidelines,” Spering said. “I think the county needs to look at funding a position to help with that coordination,” Spering said. “And I think the districts are going to have to find solutions.”

SUISUN CITY — Larry Brumfield will be the next mayor of the city, but if the oath of office is not administered until after the election is certified, his tenure could be counted in minutes, not weeks or even days. That is up to the city,
said John Gardner, the assistant Solano County Registrar of Voters. Gardner said the city clerk is the election official for city elections, and if the city determines there is no way anyone else could win the election, there is no provision of law that would prevent Suisun See Tenure, Page A8

FAIRFIELD — Voting results late Tuesday for the Fairfield mayor’s post did little to settle who will be the winner. The Solano County Elections office reported, at 10:28 p.m., that Councilwoman Catherine Moy had taken the lead for the first time over fourtime incumbent Mayor Harry Price. Moy had collected 6,599 votes, or 42.37%,
FAIRFIELD — There will be at least two new members on the City Council, but Doriss Panduro appears, after the early voting Tuesday night, to be on her way to being re-elected as the representative for District 5. This time she gets a full four years. Councilman Chuck Timm opted not to seek re-election and instead sought to replace Jim Spering on the Solano County Board of Supervisors. That left his District 1 seat on the council open. K. Patrice Williams, trailing in second in the vote count early on, took over the lead when the 10:15 p.m.
results were posted. She had 1,049 votes (35.04%). Nora Dizon dropped into second with 1,028 votes (34.34%) and George Kennedy had 917 votes (30.63%). It is still to be determined if Catherine Moy’s time on the council dais will be coming to an end with the mayor’s race still close, but she will not be the District 3 representative. Doug Carr appears to be on his way to a victory with 1,439 votes (63.09%), while David Verza had 842 votes (36.91%), the Elections Office reported. Panduro’s most significant challenger was the Rev. Scott Mulvey. Jeremy Ferrell’s name was on the ballot, but he See Council, Page A8
