BEST FURNITURE STORE: Lainey’s Furniture for Living
ainey’s Furniture for Living has been selected as the Best Furniture Store in the Daily Republic’s 2023 Readers’ Choice balloting.

Elaine Cloutier has been in the furniture business since 2014, after taking over the Shock’s store from the previous owner.

“This space has been a furniture store for over 40 years,” she says. “I worked here when it was Shock’s.”
Cloutier couldn’t resist when the opportunity arose to take on the business, and has seen her business grow every year since.
Her husband thought her nickname – Lainey –was perfect for the store.
“He said that it was more me,” she says. She has a wide variety of furniture styles for all tastes, including traditional, contemporary and transitional.
“We have a little bit higher quality furniture with name brands you would recognize that have been in business 100 years,” she says. “We provide that quality and affordable pricing.”
Lainey’s specializes in customizing furniture, including couches and recliners. Customers can pick their own fabric and create an individual style for themselves.
“I think we are one of the largest reclining dealers in Northern California,” she says.
Some tips she gives for furniture buying include a very important first step: measuring the room where the furniture will be placed.
“You have to make sure that what you are looking at buying is going to fit in the space,” Cloutier says. “It is important because you have to live around the furniture.”
She says if you are constantly fighting the furniture to turn on a light switch or the pathways in your living room are not flowing smoothly, you won’t love the furniture.
Lainey’s offers discounts and specials, with customers encouraged to check the website, Facebook and Instagram to see current deals.

Abboud, who owns El Rancho, says she and her team focus on selling healthy plants, trees, shrubs, herbs, vegetables and organic soils and fertilizers. She says that dedication to quality – as well as their customer service – is what cause people to vote for El Rancho as the best in the category
“Our friendly and knowledgeable team listens to our clients, so we understand how to meet their gardening needs,” Abboud says. “For example, someone may need help finding a rare or huge tree or plant, replacing their lawns with a drought-tolerant garden, or suggestions on soils, fertilizers or pest control.”
El Rancho Nursery stands out among its competitors because of her team’s passion to help clients create beautiful, healthy outdoor gardens they feel good in and are proud to share with their friends, family, animals, bees, butterflies, and extended community, Abboud says.
“We believe that the act of gardening makes people happy, is a good form of physical and mental wellness, and is a great way to connect with nature and relieve life’s many stresses,” Abboud says.
Reviews by customers indicate Abboud and her team are successful.
“I cannot say enough good things. They are helpful beyond imagination. They have gorgeous plants and taught a newbie like me a lot and the installation was quicker than I imagined. Great people all around. Now I need even more plants. Love this place,” one customer wrote in a review.

Pearson’s Appliance
R oy and Mickey Pearson founded Pearson’s as an appliance repair business in 1954. The company gradually extended into sales to be Fairfield’s largest independent appliance and television business. The Pearsons ran the business for some 20 years until the 1970s, when Roy Pearson was ready to pass the reins to his four sons: Roy, Steve, Dan and Pat.

Pearson’s moved in 1984 to its low-overhead warehouse in Cordelia near the Interstate 80/Interstate 680 interchange. Pearson’s bought Karlstad’s Appliance & TV in Woodland in 1989 (it closed in 2015), Chandler’s Appliance in Vacaville in 1994 and Harbison’s Appliance in Napa in 2015.

The company’s focus is on providing top-notch service and quality appliances at the best price.
“Pearson’s has grown and prospered in the tough retail business because of the combination of dedicated family customer service; experienced, knowledgeable salespersons; and membership in Nationwide Buying Group,” the Pearsons say. “Pearson’s is able to offer the best of all worlds: superior customer service and the top brand names at the guaranteed lowest prices.”
The Nationwide Buying Group allows Pearson’s and other small companies to compete with the chain stores. The group includes hundreds of family owned appliance businesses throughout the country that have banded together to negotiate wholesale prices and programs from the top name-brand suppliers in the business.
“With more than $8 billion in appliance purchases and with 2,600 locations, this is the largest appliance and TV buying group in the nation – more than all the chain stores combined,” the Pearsons say. “Pearson’s is proud to be a member of this buying group, which makes it possible to offer the best service and selection at the guaranteed lowest prices.”
The sales staff at Pearson’s are trained and experienced professionals. Each member of the sales team attends continuous and specialized training on all of the products the company sells to be able to provide the facts to customers so their choice is easier and more clear.
“Our knowledgeable salespeople know what questions to ask so they can show you the product that best fits your needs,” the Pearsons say.
The company offers complete professional delivery and installation of all refrigerators, dishwashers, microwaves, ranges, built-in ovens, cooktops, washers, dryers, hoods and more from a local inventory that’s valued at more than $2 million.

Winery
C huck, Charlie and Jenny Wagner founded Caymus-Suisun Winery in 2022 and are quickly making a name for the winery among Solano County residents – as evidenced by the winner’s selection as the Best Winery to Visit in the Daily Republic’s 2023 Readers’ Choice balloting.

Located in the heart of Suisun Valley’s American Viticultural Area, Caymus-Suisun Winery was designed to create a unique and unforgettable tasting experience that blends seamlessly with the surrounding natural environment – combining modern design with old-world charm.
Glass walls encase the tasting room with large sliding doors that not only provide views of the surrounding landscape but also capture the wind (Suisun means “west wind”) that breezes through the entire tasting room. Guests can choose to taste an array of four to five wines hosted by a wine educator or purchase a glass of wine to enjoy on their own, soaking in the views.
The retail room offers current releases as well as a unique selection of “one-off” small production and library wines that are not typically available elsewhere. Finally, on their way out, guests may pause for freshly brewed espresso while surveying the property and taking in the beauty of Suisun Valley.
Caymus-Suisun Winery offers a respite from day-to-day life that celebrates Suisun Valley and all the beauty and character of this agricultural gem.
“We are so grateful for the support and good wishes that we’ve received from the local community, and we’re extremely honored that readers of the Daily Republic have enjoyed coming to Caymus-Suisun Winery,” the Wagners say. “We hope they have felt our excitement over joining the Suisun community and, along with our neighbors, offering an authentic experience of this amazing wine region.”
The Wagner family sees itself as a partner among the existing Suisun Valley wineries.
“We don’t feel that we are in competition with our neighboring wineries,” they say. “One of the things that has struck us the most about Suisun Valley is the sense of community, and we deeply appreciate the warm welcome we’ve received from other farmers and vintners here. We are all striving toward the same goal, which is to help people discover and enjoy Suisun Valley.”
“Suisun Valley is one of California’s true agricultural gems, with striking pastoral beauty, family farms and extremely high-quality fruit,” they say. “We are thrilled to invite you to join us in exploring this remarkable wine region.”

Napoli Pizzeria
Napoli Pizzeria opened in 1968 in Vallejo and expanded in 2002 to Vacaville, in the process making a name for itself as the best pizza joint in Solano County.
That designation – Best Pizza – was affirmed in the Daily Republic’s 2023 Readers’ Choice survey.
Owners Michael and Tiffany Guerrera describe Napoli Pizzeria as a family owned Italian restaurant that specializes in making great pizza for great people.

Antonio Guerrera moved to America in the early 1960s and purchased the original Napoli on Tennessee Street in Vallejo. With the help of his wife, Jean, and their sons, Napoli grew to become a local favorite in the North East Bay, specializing in made-fromscratch ravioli, minestrone, lasagna, sauces and dressings.
“We house-spice our own chicken and sausage and our salads are fresh and crisp using the finest local ingredients,” the owners say.
Michael and Tiffany Guerrera brought Napoli to Vacaville in 2002 and have won Best Pizza in Vacaville on many occasions. Opening just months after 9/11, they worked long hours while raising a family and were able to not only survive but thrive during traumatic times that include the housing crisis, recession and amid Covid-19 shutdowns and directives.
“This win, from the Daily Republic, is especially meaningful. To be voted by so many people outside of our immediate ZIP code and delivery zone is an incredible honor
that we do not take for granted,” Michael and Tiffany Guerrera say. “Our staff is responsible for much of our success. Most of our team has been with us since before the pandemic and their hard work and tireless effort in the face of global distress and insecure workforce makes them our greatest asset. We could not do what we know and love without our team and guests, whom we consider part of our family, and are grateful to serve.”
Napoli Pizzeria focuses on freshly prepared and slow cooked Italian-American comfort food served in a clean, comfortable, family friendly environment.
“Full service is our specialty and we love to take care of our guests’ needs,” the owners say. “Our attention is in the details.”
Michael and Tiffany Guerrera say the quality of their ingredients factors into why they were voted the best in their category.
“Our dough is scratch-made and hand tossed daily. Our meats are locally sourced (Milan Salami, Oakland), and several are spiced in-house. We only use the finest dairy – mozzarella and parmesan (grated fresh daily), ricotta, feta, etc.,” they say. “We offer gluten-free and vegan options. Our vast array of veggies are cut fresh daily. There is a lot of time and effort put into each pie. We think the difference comes across in the taste. People are savvy about food nowadays and they appreciate quality; I think they know when food is well made. We keep our menu focused on pizza, pasta, salads and soup for these reasons. Everything is homemade. We focus on what we do well, and do it well.”
The Guerreras give credit to their team for helping Napoli separate itself from its competitors. That, and its whole-family
approach to service.
“When you dine with us, we want you to feel like you’re home, that you’re being taken care of. We are not a fast-casual organization and we don’t really want to be,” they say. “We try to be benevolent in all that we do and support our local seniors, schools, clubs and youth sports throughout the year.”

Napoli during the pandemic donated 20 quarts of soup each week to local seniors who were housebound due to the pandemic.
“We bought and donated freshly squeezed juice from True Roots (and our delicious pizza, of course) to our local firefighters as they fought to save our town,” they say. “Kids are people too at Napoli, and we like to set them up with color sheets, stickers, an after meal ‘treat’ and even dough to play with while the family dines in. this make all the difference when you’re trying to dine out as a family with young children.
Napoli employs all of its own drivers rather than making use of a third-party system in which the money goes to that entity instead of staying in the community. “Our drivers care about our product and our customers. That means everything to us,” the Guerreras say.

& Taproom
Owners Julio, Cesar and Rodrigo Montanez opened Slanted Tree Kitchen & Taproom in 2016 and have taken great strides to build a base of customer loyalty that translated into three wins in the Daily Republic’s 2023 Readers’ Choice balloting.
Among them: Best Fries in Solano County.

Slanted Tree Kitchen & Taproom is a full service restaurant, bar and tap room that serves lunch and dinner every day plus brunch on the weekends. Slanted Tree features 11 giant screen televisions located throughout the restaurant and bar for televised sports.
The focus of the Montanezes is to serve elevated pub food in a comfortable, entertaining and fun place for guests.
Slanted Tree won Best Fries and Best Lunch and was a runner-up for Best Brunch and Best Burger based on the work of the kitchen team, who have a gift and passion for the work they do.
They want to deliver great food day in and day out,” the Montanezes say. “It’s rewarding to them to know and see customers leave happy, impressed and wanting to come back again.”
Management encourages them to continue to grow and deliver a quality product at all times regardless of costs or circumstances, the Montanezes say.

The kitchen team is what makes Slanted Tree stand out. The kitchen team is not restricted like franchises or some corporate businesses, the Montanezes say. They’re encouraged to be creative and provide guests with food, quality and presentation that you wouldn’t normally find at a typical tap room or pub.
“We want our customers to see and taste our food and say, ‘Wow, that’s delicious,’ ‘That looks delicious,’ ‘I wouldn’t expect a tap room or pub to be providing such high-quality and delicious food,’ “ the Montanezes say.

The ambiance is warm and comfortable.
“Time and attention has gone into everything we’ve done from what type of music plays at certain times and days to the wood and rustic decor that is found throughout the entire restaurant,” the Montanezes say.

Kinder’s BBQ Fairfield
J im and Rebecca Burridge have operated Kinder’s BBQ Fairfield since 2006 and not only have expanded to include a line of products available grocery stores, but have consistently earned high marks among customers.

That trend continues with the selection of Kinder’s and the Best BBQ in Solano County in the Daily Republic’s 2023 Readers’ Choice survey.

Kinder’s is a deli, BBQ restaurant and meat market that offers catering. The Burridges keep their focus on customer service and customer satisfaction while providing a quality product.

“We start with high quality raw meats. We try very hard to produce the best food products possible. Part of that effort is focused on consistency. We want return customers and know they expect the same quality food in each visit,” the Burridges say.
The quality of the raw products used at Kinder’s as well as the fact they prepare all of their BBQ meats from scratch daily contribute to the consistent accolades from customers, they say.

“We are honored and humbled to be chosen for this award again this year,” the Burridges say. “Thank you Solano County for supporting us year after year.”

Right Now Air & Solar
J ohn Neuman founded Right Now Air & Solar in 2001 after working in the heating and air conditioning field after his high school graduation in Michigan.

Neuman met his wife soon after graduation and the couple moved to California, where he was hired on with a Solano-based heating and air conditioning company and worked his way up to general manager. After 12 years of dedicated service, he found the company unwilling to adapt or change and had lost the values of customer service. At that time, Neuman devoted himself to building more than just a heating and air conditioning company.

“At Right Now Air & Solar we do things differently than other companies. From our friendly office staff to our knowledgeable NATE-certified service technicians, we want you to have the finest service experience,” Neuman says. “During the hiring process, all employees go through an extensive background check, drug screen and must have a clean driving record. We find only the best people so you can feel comfortable and confident that the job will be done right the first time.”
Neuman says Right Now Air & Solar leads with honesty and pure intentions in every interaction – traits he says led to the company’s selection as Best Heating and Air Company in the Daily Republic’s 2023 Readers’ Choice survey.

“We’re never trying to take advantage of anyone and always put our customers first,” Neuman says. “Unlike many of our competitors, our goal is to not just band-aid your home energy problems. Our experts are trained to find out why your bill is so high, not just cover it up with solar. Once we fix the why, you don’t have to spend anywhere near the same amount of money on energy saving products like solar.”
The company’s approach resonates with customers.

“We had both solar and HVAC systems installed. Both crews worked very well together and were very communicative by letting us know what they were doing the entire process,” Right Now customer Terry Hartman says. “They also did duct cleaning and were very careful around our furniture and made sure to keep things clean inside the house. We have been extremely impressed by Right Now Air and would recommend them to anyone. From the very first interaction with Adam to Ken, the supervisor, and with the crew of Rocky, Jesse, Eddie and Oscar, they all made the experience stress-free and enjoyable.”

“Our clients form a relationship with our staff because they see the same people for years,” Neuman says. “This creates a bond of trust and comfort while in their homes. Our company is rated A+ with the Better Business Bureau since we joined in 2012. Right Now Air & Solar holds licenses in heating, air conditioning and solar along with other specialized licenses and training in our field.”
Keeping each member of the installation and service team current with industry standards is important to Neuman.

“The technicians and installers are constantly being educated with the newest technology so that we may pass this benefit on to our customers,” he says. “We have ‘fair book pricing’ that has been carefully calculated for our staff to reference and have kept the same diagnostic charge for weekdays, after hours, weekends and
customer’s expectations and being there when they need us,” Neuman says. “We work hard at maintaining our standing as the top heating, air and solar company in the area. With our constant and never-ending improvement, we strive to achieve our goal of 100% customer satisfaction.”
Neuman said the company’s working

newest technology; the care that’s taken when making a repair or installing equipment; and the respect shown to clients from the first call into the office until the final service is completed.

“We believe we were voted best in our category because we truly care for our clients and treat them like we would a family

Scott Reynolds, Reynolds Law LLP

R eynolds Law LLP, founded in 2015 by attorney Scott Reynolds, is a full-service law firm that provides exceptional legal services to businesses and individuals, through its team of attorneys, paralegals and support staff.
The firm has offices in Fairfield, Vacaville, Roseville and Redlands – in Southern California – to serve the needs of its clients throughout the state.

“At Reynolds Law, we focus on estate planning, probate and trust administration, business, real estate, land use, tax and litigation,” Reynolds says. “We strive to provide our clients with outstanding, personalized service to achieve their particular goals. Although we are best known for excellence in estate planning, trust administration and probate, we provide superior services to our business clients needing to form entities, negotiate contracts or ensure business continuity through succession planning via shareholder agreements or mergers and acquisitions.

“We have real estate and land use expertise to support our clients seeking transactional or financing support and representation before local, state and federal regulatory agencies,” Reynolds says. “To further support clients needing these
services, we have an outstanding litigation team to advocate or defend our individual and business clients in commercial, real estate and estate litigation. Finally, Reynolds Law has a strong team of tax attorneys not historically found in Solano County.”
Reynolds says his recipe is to take experience, consistency and dependability, and add a great team of professionals. It’s that approach, he says, that contributed to his selection as Best Attorney in the Daily Republic’s 2023 Readers’ Choice survey.
“Over the years, I have seen it all, which helps me solve clients’ problems that other attorneys cannot,” Reynolds says. “And finally, the learned skill of effective listening allows me to quickly focus on the true issues facing clients – and find a resolution.”
Reynolds says few practicing attorneys in this area have as many years of experience as he has – 46. Even fewer are certified specialists by the State Bar of California Board of Legal Specialization in Estate Planning, Trust Administration & Probate and are also recognized as a Super Lawyer in Business.

“Over the years, I have developed a cross-over practice that allows me to represent individual clients and their business interests or businesses and their shareholders, thus eliminating the need for multiple attorneys,” Reynolds says. “And, with my tax background, clients appreciate my ability to communicate intelligently with their accountants.”

Kaiser Permanente members have access to care from health care professionals by phone, video, email or in-person appointments. The company has invested in telehealth for decades, and its proven infrastructure was rapidly scaled to meet rising demand during the pandemic at a time when it was necessary to physically distance, but still provide quality care, the company says.

Deadrich offers a no-pressure approach to real estate transactions and the ability to be direct and honest about the real estate market at any given time. She brings vast knowledge about the county to each client to best meet their individual needs. That, combined with a personal touch and a level of tenacity that resonate with people, set her apart from her peers.

But her most important trait is her honesty.
“I build genuine lifelong relationships with my clients and truly become part of their family,” Deadrich says. “I have a lifetime of experience in negotiating their needs and will do everything in my power to make the process of buying or selling a home as seamless as possible. I truly enjoy what I do.”

And, the client notes, Deadrich “is constantly giving to people within the Vacaville community, which is such a rarity in today’s world.”
One client describes how Deadrich helped to “pull off miracles” during downturns in the economy; and how Deadrich has helped her mother, aunt and neighbors with “challenging” properties and has done so “with the grace and experience to get the job done with no nonsense.”
Another describes how Deadrich has helped her family with a combined seven home purchase and sales transactions: “Whether you are buying or selling or the market is high or low, she goes the extra mile to get you the most money for your home or save you the most money when purchasing, depending on what part of the transaction you are doing,” the client says.

“I wish I could clone her and have her continued help in the state where we live now,” the first client says. “Without hesitation, I would recommend Roe for your real estate needs. She is a true blessing.”

Asad says his focus is to provide customers with the highest quality of service for their vehicles at the lowest prices –something he says resonates with customers who selected Tire Depot as the best among its competitors.
Tire Depot’s efforts to keep prices in check during the pandemic and amid rising inflation contributed to its selection as Best Brake Service provider.
“People know that when they come here they’ll be taken care of, not taken advantage of,” Asad says. “We take pride in our work. Our goal is to make things right and do things right by our customers. Customer loyalty is the cornerstone of the business, with regulars coming back for repairs whenever they are in need and passing along good reviews of the store by word of mouth.”

“There are few businesses immune to the cost of goods and supply management issues around the globe,” Asad says. “Auto parts costs went up just like every other commodity, but we have found innovative ways to make these costs not hurt the consumer’s wallet as much, like buying in bulk and stocking parts we can find on a good deal.”
An understanding of his customers and their needs is important to Asad and his team.

“People don’t like getting their vehicles serviced; they treat it as a necessary evil,” Asad says. “No one wants to take a chunk of time out of their busy day to spend money on their car. We are able to get vehicles repaired and out the door quickly and cheaper than most other places in town. That’s why our customers choose us.”

BMW of Fairfield
BMW of Fairfield opened in 2021 at a temporary site along Auto Mall Parkway and is preparing for the opening of its new, state-of-the-art sales and service facility this spring.

Owner Harold (Hal) Logan leads the family and minority-owned automobile dealership servicing both Solano and Napa counties, as well as the surrounding areas.
BMW of Fairfield accommodates all automotive needs: new and pre-owned vehicle sales, service, parts, financing, and BMW leasing and BMW lease returns.
Logan says it’s the company’s focus that won praise among Daily Republic readers who selected BMW of Fairfield as Best New Car Dealership in the 2023 Readers’ Choice balloting.
BMW of Fairfield believes in a philosophy that there’s “A Better Way” of offering not just a world-class guest experience focused on innovation and transparency, but also a healthy work-life balance for employees, excellent career training and advancement opportunities, and robust community involvement and philanthropy,” Logan says.
BMW of Fairfield is the only BMW dealership in California that operates using the “One Price. One Person. One Hour.” sales process – a fully transparent purchase experience with aggressive, up-front pricing and no hidden fees. “Just one salaried client adviser conducts the sale, and we commit that once you’ve agreed to purchase terms, our staff works to have your paperwork
makes and models of vehicles, not just BMWs. The company offers mobile service via appointment, where the mobile service team comes to your home or place of employment to perform select maintenance or repairs on your vehicle. The company also offers the “We Come to You – Service Valet Program,” complimentary to BMW owners in Solano and Napa counties.
“We pick up your BMW from your residence, perform maintenance in our facility, and return it to you thoroughly disinfected and cleaned,” Logan says.
offers in-store and online retail parts transactions, and the Wholesale Parts Department provides parts to various independent shops in the area.

Community involvement is a key component of the company’s approach.
“Our philanthropic efforts are targeted, and we purposely choose partners whose organizations directly impact the lives of local, at-risk youth,” Logan says.
Justin Legrand-Logan, BMW of Fairfield’s general manager, serves on the board of the Fairfield-Suisun Chamber of Commerce.

The dealership also is a member of the Napa Chamber of Commerce and the Solano County Black Chamber of Commerce.

“We plant seeds to help organizations do big things. Our giving identity is centered around local efforts that help children and families thrive in our communities,” Hal Logan says.

Sunwise Fairfield
Preowned Superstore
S unwise Fairfield Preowned Superstore opened in 2020 on Auto Mall Parkway in Fairfield as part of the Sunwise Auto Group.

The dealership has simplified the car-buying experience with its “Fair, Fast, Friendly” pricing model, which competitively prices each vehicle in the company’s expansive preowned inventory to ensure buyers get the best deal possible. What customers see on the sticker is what they pay, saving them time, stress and money.

Sunwise Fairfield offers everything from used sedans to trucks and SUVs and prides itself on helping people find the vehicle for which they are searching.

Sunwise officials Eric Schiller credits the company’s no-haggle pricing model as something that sets Sunwise apart from other preowned dealers.
“We provide honesty and knowledge to any client, while maintaining low upfront market-based pricing. You can also purchase a vehicle totally remote with our ‘save time do it online’ tool designed to save you time and money,” Schiller says. “We have an amazing selection of preowned vehicles at competitive prices, with our haggle-free philosophy. We’re committed to helping each driver in Northern California leave our lot in the car perfect for them. Regardless of your credit, we help you find the best loan terms possible. Our online car loan
calculator is a great tool to get an idea of what your financing situation will look like.”

Customer reviews help tell the company’s tale of success.
“Thanks to Sunwise Fairfield Preowned Superstore, I am now reunited with the Ford C-Max Hybrid Energi model that I spent over two months searching for,” one customer wrote. “The price was very
competitive, the condition of the 2016 vehicle like new, and I can’t emphasize enough how the sales team was an absolute pleasure working with, which is definitely not the usual comments one holds toward car dealership experiences with personnel.”
“Super friendly, super knowledgeable, fair, kind and honest,” another customer wrote. “Great place to buy a car from and great

Scandia Golfland

S candia Golfland has once again worked its way into the hearts and minds of Daily Republic readers with its selection as Best Entertainment for Teens in the latest Readers’ Choice survey for 2023.

The venue features two 18-hole miniature golf courses. The park also features batting cages, race cars, bumper boats, laser tag, a children’s playland, huge video game arcade and a full snack bar.

“Our focus is to provide family entertainment at affordable rates. We are committed to providing our community with a fun and safe place to create memories with their family and loved ones,” says Jimmy Due, the general manager. “The staff at Scandia strives to ensure each guest has a memorable experience.”
It’s the wide array of entertainment options at Scandia that make it stand out among the competition, Due says.

“We offer a variety of fun attractions,” Due says.

Covid-19 created some interesting challenges, Due says.

“The staff at Scandia Golfland continues to provide a safe, clean and fun environment for our community. Whether it’s soaking the golf clubs and balls or sanitizing the go-karts and bumper boats between guests, we are doing our part to provide a good time while reducing the spread of the novel coronavirus,” Due says. “We appreciate the support of our community during these uneasy times. We wouldn’t be doing what we love to do without our excellent guests’ continued patronage. We look forward to providing fun for the whole family for many more years to come.”
Scandia Goldland was founded in 1978 by Jim Kenney.

BEST THEATER VENUE: Downtown Theatre
IN FAIRFIELD: 1035 Texas St. PHONE: 707-940-0700 WEBSITE: www.downtowntheatre.com
T he heart of Fairfield’s downtown as it becomes a destination is the Downtown Theatre, which since 2012 has been operated by the Downtown Theatre Foundation as a nonprofit. The state-of-the-art venue hosts the area’s premier arts groups and provides a venue for entertainers of all genres to perform. But the focus is on live theater, such as performances put on Missouri Street Theatre.
Quality performances – many unmatched in Solano County, helped earn the Downtown Theatre the designation of Best Entertainment Venue in the Daily Republic’s 2023 Readers’ Choice survey.
Downtown Theatre officials say the community is lucky to have a company that performs year round musicals. And those performances “are usually pretty great,” they say.

BEST CREDIT UNION: Travis Credit Union

T ravis Credit Union is a not-for-profit financial cooperative that offers financial services and value-focused financial products to those who live in its 12-county Northern California service area. TCU offers savings products such as certificates, money market accounts and savings accounts. The credit union also offers free checking accounts, vehicle loans, credit cards and mortgages, including first mortgages, home equity loans and home equity lines of credit.
IN VACAVILLE: One Travis Way HOURS: Vary by branch but are typically 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday; 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday WEBSITE: www.traviscu.org
TCU is also an advocate for financial education and financial wellness, offering free seminars and webinars with money-related topics for adults and teens. The credit union also offers an annual $2,000 scholarship to 20 members, as well.

Travis Credit Union started in 1951 serving the military and civilian works on Travis Air Force Base (where the credit union got its name) but today is a community-based credit union serving residents across a large geographic area. It is those residents who selected Travis Credit Union as Best Credit Union in the Daily Republic’s 2023 Readers’ Choice survey.
“The focus of TCU is to help our members achieve their financial goals. We accomplish this by reinvesting our profits to provide value to our membership. This comes in the form of low-rate loans, higher interest rates on savings and on other products and services focused on our members’ financial wellness,” President and CEO Kevin Miller says. “TCU epitomizes the credit union industry’s philosophy of ‘People Helping People.’ We assist our members through our 24 branches, our Member Service Center, online at traviscu.org and through our Mobile App.
Miller says Travis Credit Union is a trusted, respected and valued member of the Solano County community, and attributes those traits with its selection as Best Credit Union.

Travis Credit Union separates itself from competitors such as traditional banks because its focus is on helping people. Travis Credit Union employees are also active in local chambers of commerce and in other community groups.
“It is a real honor to again be named the Best Credit Union in this year’s Readers’ Choice awards,” Miller says. “Since TCU was founded in 1951, we have always taken a proactive approach toward improving the financial well-being of our members and their communities.”
BEST TOURS: Jelly Belly Candy Company

J elly Belly Candy Company traces its roots to 1898 and to this day remains a family owned and operated business now in its sixth generation of candy making.
The Fairfield factory produces more than 100 flavors of Jelly Belly jelly beans, BeanBoozled jelly beans, Sport Beans and other year-round and seasonal confections that are enjoyed by fans worldwide. The Jelly Belly Visitor Center includes a self-guided tour of the factory that allows people to see the entire candy-making operation first-hand, the new Jelly Belly Museum, which details the history of the company and fun facts, the Jelly Belly Bean Art Gallery, the Jelly Belly Café and a Chocolate Shoppe – all of which make the Jelly Belly Visitor Center a delightful experience for people of all ages.
HOURS: Retail Store: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily

HOURS: Factory Tour and Museum: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily

“We pride ourselves on making quality and innovative products and we want our visitors to see the care that is put into every piece of candy,” CEO Lisa Brasher says. “But above all, we just want visitors to have fun and maybe learn something about Jelly Belly when they come to visit us.”
PHONE: 800-953-5592

WEBSITE: www.jellybelly.com

Brasher says there are so many things to do at the Jelly Belly Visitor Center and there is something for everyone to enjoy – traits she says led to Jelly Belly’s selection as Best Tours in the Daily Republic’s 2023 Readers’ Choice balloting.
“We strive to provide a warm and welcoming environment for everyone,” Brasher says. “It’s a place where families can have fun spending the day together and maybe learn something about a popular candy.”

There aren’t a lot of companies that provide a first-hand look into their operations but Jelly Belly is one of the few factories in the United States that still provides public tours. The other thing that makes Jelly Belly stand out, Brasher says, is that Jelly Belly provides a wholesome and fun family friendly environment.
“We are thrilled that Jelly Belly was selected for this award,” says John Jamison, vice president of Retail Operations. “Fairfield guests who have been to our world famous Factory Tour over the years can now experience the new Jelly Belly museum. The museum presents the evolution of candy-making equipment and the growth of the family owned Jelly Belly Candy Company through a whimsical and interactive experience. Weather permitting, guests are invited to ride aboard the Jelly Belly Express passenger train from the Visitor Center to the entrance of the brand new Jelly Belly Museum.”
