Christa Campbell isn’t known as the Donut Queen for nothing. For decades her made fresh to order Apple Cider Donuts have inspired watering mouths and long lines at Rainbow Orchards in Camino — and the hot donut is every bit worth the wait, according to the throngs of tourists and locals who come back year after year.
Campbell and Tom Heflin took over running the ranch, which began as a cider mill in the 1940s, in 1977. Having just celebrated its 80th year in operation, it's clear to see 50 Grand Restaurant and Bar has gained a customer base that spans generations. Taking the reins as owners in 2018, Kim and Jim McCarthy have worked to make the restaurant a celebration of everything local.
"We get local meat and Jim trims it all himself," Kim explained. "We prepare it so that when you're done, there is nothing left on your plate."
Recently remodeled, 50 Grand's artwork and photos that adorn the walls are all from local artists, the wines are locally produced and the live entertainment is, of course, performed by locals.
