President’s Report
Welcome to the 2023 Elmore Field Days.
This year we celebrate 60 years of the Elmore Field Days. Isn’t it amazing how far the Elmore Field Days and the agricultural industry have changed in 60 years?
Not only has the site grown from the 12 to 14 hectares at Ayson Reserve compared to the 153 hectares we currently host our annual field days at, but also the changes in machinery and processes. There were no airconditioned cabs, auto steer or drones back in those days like we see today.
We thought we had lived through everything after the pandemic and were thankful to be able to host the Elmore Field Days in 2022 after two years of restrictions and lockdowns. But late October, only a few weeks after the field days, saw a surge of water through Victoria, including the majority of the Elmore Field Days site being under water.
From this event, we partnered with
the Victorian Government to provide our site and existing facilities for short-term temporary housing due to the devastating events that occurred. This partnership allowed for an extremely quick response due to the existing infrastructures and services offered on site when residents needed it most. The commitment to the community from the Elmore Events Centre and the Victorian Government saw its first residents move into the short-term temporary accommodation just three weeks after the devastating floods.
An extraordinary amount of work was put in, not only by the Elmore Event Centre staff and the Victorian Government, but also all the trades and services supplied to have the site up and running so quickly. Thank you to all the staff and exhibitors for efforts in vacating the site to allow for construction to begin.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our event customers and patrons for their understanding and flexibility over the
exhibitor will give you a form that you need to take to the PPU Office, located in the centre of the site near the main office. Volunteers will then go and pick up your goods for a $2 fee.
These items are then dropped off to your choice of the east or west depots where you can pick up your goods when leaving.
Parenting Centre
Baby feed and change facilities are available in the Parenting Centre at Site 542 next to first aid. Baby change tables are available in toilet blocks near catering sites 7 and 9.
Conditions of entry
For the comfort, safety and enjoyment of all persons the Elmore Field Days (EFD) committee reserves the right to:
• Refuse entry to any persons deemed to be intoxicated and/ or disorderly or likely to cause a breach of the peace.
• Remove persons causing disturbances, breaching the peace or refusing to comply with requests from the EFD.
• Persons entering the site must adhere to Occupational Health & Safety legislation.
• Special care should be taken at all times to protect yourself and others against any loss or injury.
• Persons entering the site may be photographed, filmed or taped and it is deemed that a person by entering the site consents to the EFD or parties appointed by the EFD to broadcast, publish or use any of the photographs, film, recording or images for promotional and other purposes.
• Persons must obey all signs, notices and directions given by the EFD while on site.
• The following restricted/prohibited items are not permitted onsite without written consent: alcoholic beverages, flares/fireworks, laser pointers, knives and other dangerous weapons.
past 12 months as we have navigated through this time. The site is still not back to its former glory with some infrastructure remaining to ensure that all residents were able to stay as long as possible, however, we have plans on working through this and improving for the 2024 field days. We host many other events during the year, including the Australian Fodder Industry Association in the paddock with their Fodderganza showcasing a range of equipment and guest speakers, and the annual Elmore Tractor Pull held in March in conjunction with St Joseph’s Primary School Rochester. Our Equestrian Park also hosts weekly equestrian events of all disciplines from dressage to miniature horses to reining and everything in between. Keep an eye on our social media pages for any upcoming events.
At our 60th Anniversary Dinner, held in the George Holmberg Pavilion, we welcomed three new Life Governors to the Elmore Field Days for all their service and time given. We welcomed
everything you have done!
It’s an exciting time to see where the next 60 years will take us at the Elmore Field Days, but we look forward to seeing you on October 3, 4 and 5, 2023.

Award-winning dealer on show
A
regular exhibitor at the Elmore Field Days, the Michael’s Group is eager to showcase their range of first-rate machinery to customers new and old.
The award-winning Victorian-based JCB dealership has been coming to Elmore Field Days since the 1980s.
Dealer principal at the Michael’s Group Moama branch, Brad Michael, said Elmore Field Days offers an opportunity for their team to engage with their customers.
“The opportunity to interact and catch up with all our customers in one place is what keeps us coming back,” Brad said.
“It’s also a good platform for us to educate potential new customers on our range of machines.”
The group has a reputation for prioritising their customers, a reputation that has led them to receive recognition for their exceptional after-sales support. Brad said he is proud to be part of a group that is known for its highquality service.
“We received an award for being the number one (JCB) dealer in the
world for after-sales service and support, and we still hold this today,” he said.
“Our customers are widespread. They are in the grain business, hay, beef, dairy, chicken — it’s all over agriculture.”
The Michael’s Group offers a full range of on-farm and workshop servicing for agricultural and construction equipment.
They also supply an extensive range of machines to the construction sector, including earthmoving equipment, backhoes, excavators and wheeled loaders.
And as specialist JCB dealers, they service all JCB models from mini excavators and skid steers through to large loaders and heavy excavators. Brad said they will showcase a variety of JCB equipment at the Elmore Field Days, and are particularly eager to exhibit the JCB teleskid, the world’s first and only
telescopic skid steer loader. Recently introduced in Australia, the teleskid was constructed using JCB’s knowledge and expertise in constructing telehandlers, but instead with the addition of an extendable boom.
“This new machine combines the versatility of the telehandler with the manoeuvrability of a skid steer,” Brad said.
The Michael’s Group has dealerships in Donald, Moama, Ballarat and Traralgon.
Less labour, more productivity
If you’re looking for ways to improve your on-farm productivity and reduce labour inputs, Te Pari has a range of high-quality sheep and cattle handling equipment on offer.
The range includes sheep handlers, cattle crushes and automated weighing and drafting equipment, and they also design and manufacture a range of turnkey cattle yard systems.
Racewell sheep handling equipment, made by Te Pari, offers reliable, industry-proven designs.
The range of sheep handlers and auto drafters come with advanced features and technology that take the hard work out of sheep handling.
A new crutching flap is now available on all Racewell sheep handlers. This innovation gives you excellent access to the rear end of your sheep for crutching including up the belly and improved access for foot work.
This new feature is proving to be popular as it becomes harder to get
contractors on-farm with the current labour shortages.
Te Pari’s range of cattle handling equipment offers innovative designs that help improve farm efficiency and safety.
The Taurus auto drafter turns drafting cattle into a one-person job with remote-control operation. The drafting gates out the front of the crush automatically open according to the criteria you select in the scale unit — such as weight groups or any other information you have stored on the animal’s RFID tag.
With a Taurus auto-drafting crush you can process your cattle quicker and as a result will weigh more often.
With a cycle time of about 10 seconds an animal, it is realistic to
weigh 300 head an hour with very little operator intervention. If you consider the cost of labour, the return on investment on an autodrafting cattle crush is very good. All Te Pari products are made in New Zealand with high-quality Australian steel and then fully hot dip galvanised to ensure the best protection from corrosion.
The Te Pari team will be at Elmore Field Days and they’ll have a range of their most popular equipment on display.
Visit for a chat to find out how Te Pari equipment can improve efficiency and reduce labour on your farm.

Food
There are plenty of options for a delicious meal or refreshing drink at the field days.
Whether you’re craving a gourmet burger, a baked potato or something sweet there will be a wide range of food to accommodate all tastes.
The Community Catering team offers the traditional fare such as pies, pasties and sausage rolls, along with homemade sandwiches, rolls and wraps. There are also two community coffee shops so you can get your caffeine fix and a cake.
The Community Catering team brings together volunteers from 15 organisations who run the community catering stalls during the event and look after all the food vendors. It is a valuable source of fundraising for all groups involved, including local schools, kindergartens, sporting clubs and recreation reserves.

Flood recovery thank you
Thank you to all involved with the Elmore Temporary Accommodation Village that was constructed at the Elmore Field Days site in November 2022 to help following the October floods that occurred throughout Victoria, in particular affecting the residents of Rochester.
Thank you to all the 2022 site holders who were able to clear their sites to ensure the temporary accommodation village could be set up.
To all the contractors, trades, committee members and the many government agencies that were involved (who went above and beyond for those affected) we thank you also for responding so quickly. This prompt response saw our first residents moving in just three weeks after the devastating flood impacted. The Elmore Field Days Committee was determined to allow the residents of the village to have as much time as possible to be able to recuperate from the floods without affecting the ability to run the 2023 Elmore Field Days.
When you visit the site in 2023, you may notice a few changes and earthworks that have remained from the accommodation village.
We sincerely thank all involved in this year’s field days for understanding this.
We are honoured to be able to
support the local community when they needed it the most.

Elmore tradition continues
Delecca’s has been revolutionising the construction, earthmoving, agricultural and material handling sectors for more than 40 years.
It has become a tradition for the family-owned and operated business to attend the Elmore Field Days.
Delecca’s marketing manager Phil Gutteridge said they will be showcasing the newly released Segway vehicle range at this year’s event.
“Most people will recognise the Segway name from about 25 years ago when they introduced standup two-wheel devices. They now manufacture quad bikes, UTVs and side-by-side ATVs,” Phil said.
“We are currently offering all three types of vehicles as they are an excellent choice for individuals who reside on large blocks of land or who are involved in agriculture.”
While the quad bikes, UTVs and ATVs differ greatly from one another, they all have the ability to transport you to locations that an ordinary four-wheel car just cannot access, particularly if there has been wet weather.
The ATVs are more of a recreational transport option, the quad bikes can be purchased as either a single or
double seater and the UTVs are best for transporting or towing objects across large properties.
Known for their impressive towing capacity, the UTVs are able to carry up to three people and a maximum load of 450kg.
Delecca’s will be exhibiting a range of other brands at the field days including Bobcat, McCormick, Clark and Develon (formerly Doosan).

Delecca’s offers maintenance and repair services for machinery where customers can either bring their machinery in or Delecca’s can come to your location.
They service a large area in regional Victoria — from Bendigo to Echuca, and Shepparton to Ballarat.
They also provide a cost-efficient short-term hiring service for people who wish to test a product before making a purchase commitment and a long-term service for civil engineering and government projects.
Phil said they will be bringing everything from mini excavators and large excavators, tractors, zero-turn mowers and telehandlers to loaders, skid steer loaders and track loaders.
“It’s a diverse range that we will be bringing. We cater to pretty much every industry you can think of whether it be construction, earthmoving, material handling and agriculture.”
Phil said Elmore Field Days was a fantastic opportunity for Delecca’s to catch up with customers as well as show their range to homeowners and people from different industries. “Every show we will hear someone say, ‘wow, I did not know you did that’.
“The big thing that we want people to know is that we’re here to help people solve problems. It’s not all about selling stuff. We are solutionfocused and we want to help.”

eager to showcase the cutting-edge culverts at Elmore Field Days.
Padman Quick Culverts will operate in conjunction with Padman Stops, which will still offer precast irrigation gates and irrigation automation products.
Shawn said by introducing Padman Quick Culverts, they are mitigating the effects of unpredictable agricultural seasons.
By having multiple industries to supply it allows them to have a stable workforce.
“This latest venture is really all about future-proofing against volatile agriculture industries,” he said. “Supplying agriculture is really what we love to do, we just wanted to leverage our 30 years of success in the ag market and apply it to other industries by designing this type of culvert.”
Shawn said they were thrilled to share both their current and upcoming product line-up at Elmore.
“The field days are an opportunity for us to get feedback. We find
it valuable just to be able to have a chat with our loyal and longstanding customers,” he said.
“We’re excited. The Padman Group is always looking for something new.
“We are an innovative company and we’re always looking to have a competitive edge on everything we do.”

At the Elmore Field Days 60th Anniversary Dinner in August, three current committee members were awarded with a life governorship of the Elmore Field Days.
Derek Shotton
“I am very proud of the profile EFD has been able to carve out for our district and community.
“The determination to promote, support and nurture the community I believe is the EFD’s biggest and most enduring legacy.
“From supporting local businesses, individuals, organisations and sporting clubs, and encouraging and advocating the promotion of growth of our immediate and extended community.
“The EFD gives to you as a member as much as you give to it. I have had many roles and happily given much of my time. In return I have received friendships for life, a network of incredible
proportions and diversity, a book full of qualifications and life experiences that I use every day of my life.
“To the incredible group of locals that had the drive and commitment to start this marvellous institution the entire membership, local community and Victorian Agriculture fraternity are forever in debt to you all.”
Derek Shotton first started at the Elmore Field Days when he was in school, helping out in the car park. He officially joined the Elmore Field Days Committee almost 40 years ago when he was 18. Derek currently is on many subcommittees and has been an active Executive Committee
member for more than 15 years.
Over his many years, one of Derek’s biggest achievements was transitioning the organisation to not just being the field days but to the ‘Elmore Events Centre’ and attracting lots of events to the site.
The grassed arena is also one of Derek’s projects and the countless hours he spends ensuring it is right for the horses. There are many small behind the scenes tasks that Derek continues to tackle to keep the organisation tinkering away and moving forward.
The Elmore Field Days Committee thanks Derek
for the many hard years’ work he has put into not only ensuring that the field days and events centre stay relevant and prosperous, but that the committee and staff are well supported.
Thank you, Derek, for contributing so much time towards the success and future of the organisation.

“I have made many great memories over the years involved with the Elmore Field Days.
“In the earlier days the committee would do the security and setting up so they were not home a lot, so on the Sunday before the field days wives and families would go out to the site and have a barbecue to catch up — it was a great fun family day.
The last 20 years or so I have absolutely enjoyed working with so many wonderful people under the umbrella of Ag Art.
It has been a very rewarding organisation to be involved in, meeting lots of people in all walks of life all over Australia. To see all the

“It is great to be involved in a group with lots of people who are striving towards the one goal.
“Everyone is on the committee for the right reasons. So many different ideas are put forward and everyone is willing to give it a go.
“When I was younger, we were given the opportunity by the older committee to do things ourselves under their guidance. It’s nice to be able to return the favour to our upcoming younger committee and give them the same opportunities.
The younger ones are also up with the changing technology and teach us a lot, too.
“The field days are great for the local community and surrounding area, and the community is great for the field days, too.
“The field days has done a lot for the town, for example the contribution to the change rooms at the swimming pool, and shade
benefits to our community and afar with financial assistance makes me very proud.”
Lorraine Trewick has been involved with the Elmore Field Days since 1965, when she worked in catering — selling soft drinks out of an old bathtub filled with ice.
She then moved on from catering to create the first parenting centre, which also meant she was still involved in the event and could bring along her young children.
Lorraine also worked in the front office during the field days for many years. And did many tasks at home including, before there were mobile phones, answering the home phone from 6 am
to 11 pm while her husband Ron, who was executive officer, was busy on the farm. Lorraine officially joined the committee more than 20 years ago and she became the chairperson for General Interest, and the Ag Art Wear Competition began. In 2000, Ron was president and Lorraine accompanied him to the New Zealand Field Days, where she was introduced to the idea of Ag Art. Lorraine came back to Elmore and suggested that the Elmore Field Days begin an Ag Art Competition. The success of Ag Art in Elmore was a result of the dedication shown by Lorraine to promote the competition statewide and her passion kept the
entrants coming back each year.
The commitment that Lorraine has shown the Elmore Field Days in all aspects over her 59 years of
being involved is incredible. The Elmore Field Days Committee thanks Lorraine for contributing so much of her time and energy to the field days and Ag Art.

“George Holmberg told me a quote years ago: ‘You either live in your community or you live off your community’. I think this was a great quote, and I have lived by this ever since.”
Philip Neale Philip, or more commonly known as Seale, has been involved in the Elmore Field Days since he was young, where he would accompany his dad and uncle to the events.
Philip has been involved in most sub-committees at the field days, including Waste Management, Traffic, and Parcel Pick-Up. In these roles he oversaw lots of changes, including the upgrade to wheelie bins after they used to use 44-gallon drums as bins.
Philip has been on the Executive Committee as
part of his role in Treasury for seven years. Philip was around when the Equestrian Park started. He has spent many hours working on the arenas to ensure they are perfect for the events and building relationships with the different clubs. He is always willing to lend a hand no matter how big or small for all the local organisations. His commitment to the field days shows this.

The Elmore Field Days Committee wants to thank Philip for all the work he has dedicated to this organisation and the continued support he offers the staff and committee.
Everything you need in one place
Northern Hire Group (also known as NHG) prides itself on its great range of quality plant and equipment and excellent customer service.
Chris Feldbauer, a qualified fitter and machinist with a passion for all things mechanical, started Northern Hire Group in Echuca in 2016.
Since then, Northern Hire Group has continued to develop and evolve the business, and is committed to the Echuca community and surrounding areas.
Northern Hire Group’s location on the Victorian/NSW border, and its modern fleet of heavy vehicles, allows it to service northern Victoria, southern NSW and most areas between Echuca and Melbourne. Having grown up locally, and running a local business for many years, in 2012 Chris saw an opening in the market and began a small, specialised hire company — Northern Generator Hire & Maxwell Signs.
Chris began to form the idea of Northern Hire Group. The site was leased in early 2016, and after extensive renovations to workshop,
yard and office facilities, NHG opened its doors in April 2016.
From its inception, NHG has continually morphed and adapted to the ever changing and expanding community demand, listening and acting on its customers’ needs and requests.
NHG initially opened with a range of plant and equipment aimed predominantly at residential and trade consumers, based on analysis of the demand of the local community.
By September 2016, NHG had expanded the fleet to near full capacity of a ‘typical’ hire company. However, by being attentive to client needs and requests, and an ongoing commitment to client satisfaction, NHG has also moved into previously unchartered industries including:
• Road infrastructure: With larger excavators, padfoot rollers, twin drum rollers, trench rollers, traffic lights, light towers, VMS Boards and concrete road barriers.
• Agriculture: With telehandlers and attachments, trenchers, water trailers, weed sprayers, air compressors and pressure washers.
• Large commercial and civil works: With more than 100 site offices/ kitchens, ablution blocks, shipping containers, and substantial quantity of temporary fencing.
• Events: With generators, pedestrian and road barriers,
VMS Boards, lighting towers, portable toilets and temporary fencing.
NHG prides itself on offering great quality, but more importantly, reliable equipment, suitable and able to efficiently perform the job required of it.
But first and foremost, NHG wants to be remembered and recommended based on great customer service.
Wide range of equipment
Eastern Spreaders from Kerang handle a wide range of equipment for the pastoral and agricultural industry, including NDE vertical feed-mixers, Marshall spreaders, Renn grain equipment, Boomerang bale feeders, Sitrex hay rakes, John Berends equipment and Rotowiper weedwipers.
They are the eastern states distributor for Marshall Multispread fertiliser spreaders and will have a range of models onsite at Elmore again this year.
The Multispread will handle all types of granular fertilisers as well as lime, gypsum, compost and manures. Marshall’s optional i4M variable rate control has proved popular, assisting farmers to increase the accuracy of their fertiliser applications, minimising wastage. The i4M system can also be retro-fitted to older machines.
Eastern Spreaders are Australian distributors for the Canadian range of RENN Roller Mills. RENN has been in the business of feed processing for more than 50 years, also supplying grain bagging and unloading systems which are durable, efficient and user friendly.
The bagger uses a low-profile design which reduces stress on the bag and uses an inclined auger to fill the bag. The RGB1020C model has a 10ft wide tunnel and combines a large hopper with a high capacity 20inch auger.
RENN Roller Mills have proved to be a great addition to Eastern Spreaders’ range of feeding equipment. Popular sizes are 12, 24, 36 and 48-inch wide rollers in portable PTO drive models with folding 12ft discharge auger. Also available are stationary units, suitable for electric motor drive. The 16-inch diameter rollers are precision-machined and dynamically balanced. The popular 24inch model handles barley at up to 13 tonne/hour and wheat up to 27.2 tonne/hour.
Eastern Spreaders have been the Australian distributor for Canadianmade NDECo Vertical Cutter/Mixer/ Feeders, since 2000.
With a very quick cutting and efficient mixing ability NDECo mixers are available in sizes from 11 cubic metres in single auger configuration to 32 cubic metres
conveyor feed-out or two side doors with discharge elevators available from 3ft to 9ft lengths on either the left or right side.
NDECo’s patented carbide-insert large 24inch curved knives, which give a quick slicing action and very long life as well as minimising power requirements, should last in excess of 3000 hours. The augers are also hard-faced for longevity.
Eastern Spreaders are the official Victorian and Riverina distributors for Rotowiper carpet roller-type weed-wipers.
The Rotowiper is designed to apply herbicide without affecting underlying clovers and pasture grasses, as the rotating drum only applies herbicide to plants in direct contact with the applicator. The height of the roller can be adjusted to suit the type of weeds being targeted. Rotowiper comes in three main configurations — The TR Series towbehind units from 1.8 metres to 4.5 metres wide; the LMU Series 3 Point Linkage units from 2.9 metres to 4.26 metres wide; and the FU Series Tractor mounted fold-up machines from 6 to 12 metres wide.
Eastern Spreaders will have a wide range of equipment on display at Elmore.Skills to take you places at

Ag Cloud
Farmers today face a dual challenge when it comes to combating crime. Not only do they need to protect their physical assets, but they must also safeguard their operations in the digital realm. AgCloud recognises this multifaceted battle and has been dedicated to providing integrated solutions that address both the physical security and cyber security needs of modern farmers.
Flexolt
Flexolt, the world-first oral lice treatment for sheep, gives producers greater flexibility when treating their flock. The product can be used on both sheep and lambs (from 6kg body weight) with any length of wool, revolutionising lice control. Flexolt contains a novel active ingredient that works systemically from the inside out, offering producers the flexibility to treat off-shears, short and long wool sheep and lambs with a single, oral dose.
Flexolt also gives producers greater choice over when to treat their flock. It means producers are no longer bound to shearing time for lice control, minimising common management challenges such as labour, weather and time. The
product is unaffected by rain, and lambs at foot or poorly shorn sheep can be treated without the risk of reinfesting the flock in the following months.
Flexolt reduces farm management challenges across the entire flock or individual mobs. Split shearing, which often leads to lice outbreaks, can be avoided as mobs can be treated at once. New sheep can also be treated and quarantined from the rest of the flock.
WoolClip AWEX
Zoetis
Heidi Sutherland from Zoetis will share an update, including photos and practical tips on achieving consistent vaccination techniques. Then she will talk about the importance of worm egg counting.
WoolClip is an online internet and mobile app that allows the user to create wool specifications, consignments and National Wool Declarations (NWDs). It uses a simple, intuitive workflow designed to reduce workload and errors. For those wanting to collect mob and bale details in the wool shed during the day, the mobile app can be used even where there is no signal or data connectivity. Once finalised, WoolClip will send the specification by email to the nominated marketing organisation as well as owner/ manager(s) and marketing representative(s) in the team.
Is it time for an upgrade?
There are many reasons why you could be thinking about automating parts of your milking system or switching to full robotic milking.
Perhaps you’re struggling to find reliable milkers, or you want to simplify the way you work.
If you do decide to make changes, it’s good to know that a milking system can be tailored in a way that works for you and your farm.
For example, not every robotic system forces you to change everything you do to suit the way the robots like to work.
With DeLaval VMS, the world’s most flexible milking robot, the first question asked is ‘how do you like to milk?’.
Because however and whatever you feed, and whatever kind of milking frequency you prefer — one, twice, three times a day — when the system tells the cows it’s time, or whenever they decide they’re ready, DeLaval can work with you to design a system that will help you farm that way. Your way.
Or maybe you’re looking for ways to upgrade to one-person milking on a rotary.
The DeLaval Cockpit of their E-Series rotaries give you total control and total visibility. Crowd gates, sorting gates, speed — all of it — at your fingertips where you stand.
And with DeLaval’s Flow-Responsive Milking, you don’t need a separate stimulation routine, and no gap is required between stimulation and cluster attachment.
You just attach and let the system provide stimulation and then apply vacuum after oxytocin release, all of which makes the start of milking a one-person job.
Combine this with an accurate and cost-efficient DeLaval Teat Spray Robot, and you’re one step closer to milking solo.
So whether you’ve been thinking about making a change for ages, or are at the start of your thought process, make your next step a chat with the milking system upgrade specialists at DeLaval.
• Rainwater Tanks
• Fertiliser Tanks
• Diesel & Adblue Storage
• Troughs and Animal Care
• Septic Tanks

Training future technicians
Bendigo TAFE’s Jono Williams works at the cutting edge of farm technology. As a heavy vehicle teacher, he’s training the next generation of skilled workers to support Victoria’s agricultural sector.
“There’s more technology in a modern-day tractor than in a Tesla,” Jono said.
“But as farm equipment becomes more advanced, the reliance on precision electronics and complex mechanical systems means you need a different skill set to maintain it.”
To help address the regional skills shortage, Bendigo TAFE recently launched the Smart Farming Lab — a state-of-the-art agricultural mechanical equipment training centre.
The lab features the newest teaching tools and simulators specifically designed for the future of farming technology.
“The students we train now aren’t mechanics, they’re technicians,” Johno said.
“They not only need to have traditional skills, but also in-depth knowledge of modern electronics and hydraulics.
See Jamiee & the crew at Elmore Field Days site GI.90Modern
“The Smart Farming Lab lets us teach the latest technology. “We use simulator boards to create examples of real-life faults, like problems with a seeding element or pump. The students diagnose the issues and find solutions.
“They get a great understanding of how a hi-tech tractor works and how it communicates with farm implements.
“This new facility gives us the ability to train up to 100 apprentices each year.
“Our set-up is already secondto-none, with brand new Massey Ferguson tractors and a hydraulic test simulator.
“Now the Smart Farming Lab positions us as the leading Victorian TAFE for the Certificate III in
Agricultural Mechanical Technology
(AUR30420).”

farm machinery needs skilled technicians to service them.Almost 50 years of service
Bertolis has grown in terms of the product range and services offered since it started nearly 47 years ago.
Paul Bertoli realised that through hard work and good customer service he had the foundations for a successful business. And 19 years ago long-term staff member Jack Collins joined the business in partnership with Paul.
These factors have seen the business steadily grow to where it is today — a key provider of agricultural and industrial machinery for northern Victoria, stocking a wide variety of equipment with locations in Shepparton, Benalla and Albury/Wodonga.
Bertolis supplies and services many leading brands.
The business represents Kubota, world renowned for its quality tractors, grounds care, excavators, skid steers, and Krone hay and silage equipment.
The NEXT GENERATION has arrived
Bertolis also has key AGCO brands as a key part of the business.
Massey Ferguson is AGCO’s iconic tractor brand, but also is their leader in hay and harvesting equipment. Fendt tractors, with Vario drive
transmissions from 70 hp to 600 hp, form the other part of the AGCO stable that Bertolis is proud to be representative for.
In addition to these two tremendous organisations, Bertolis has been able to develop and nurture key franchises of other impressive brands
such as Hardi broadacre sprayers, Duncan seed drills, Berti mulchers, Walker mowers, Hustler equipment, BA sprayers and spreaders, and John Berends, which is Australian-made. Key staff reside throughout Bertolis’ wide sales area, which sees the business well-positioned
to promptly respond to inquiries regardless of a client’s location. Bertolis will be there to continue supplying and servicing northern Victoria for the next generation. Come and see the Bertolis team and products at site 899 or visit: www.bertolis.com.au

Unlock the key to better soil
In 2018, two Victorian dairy farmers started talking about how they could improve their farms’ sustainability and profitability.
That’s when an idea was born. Linking science and nature — a ‘biolink’ — to find a better solution for Australian farmers.
Using their first-hand knowledge of the land and good farming practices, the Biolink team have formulated a unique combination of ingredients to feed the soil and create a better environment for plant and animal growth.
Biolink Probiotics 4 Plants and Animals makes a range of affordable natural fertilisers, microbial soil stimulants and animal probiotics.
“We draw our inspiration from the pioneers of biodynamic, organic and regenerative farming,” co-owner Kevin Beecroft said.
“Unlike conventional fertilisers, Biolink products aren’t just about replacing the nutrients removed
Biolink co-owner Kevin Beecroft.from the soil in food and fibre production.
“We’re about nurturing the soil using a selection of multi-species microbials to create a carbon and nutrient-rich, sustainable environment for plant growth.
“Designed for use alongside your conventional fertiliser program, they boost nutrient uptake while reducing the quantity of fertiliser needed to produce the same output.
“The result is a costneutral solution.”
The Biolink Probiotics
4 Plants and Animals range of microbial-based products helps in all types of applications, including:
• Nurturing abundant pasture growth to feed the herd — reducing your dependence on costly bought-in feed.
• Increasing crop yields and plant quality
without the need for extra chemical fertiliser, which results in nutrient loss and harmful run-off into waterways.
• Boosting the on-farm composting process in manure heaps and effluent ponds to reduce waste and create cost-effective fertiliser.
• Improving the gut health of horses, livestock and poultry to increase nutrient efficiency, lower feed costs, reduce environmental emissions and increase overall animal health.
“The feedback has been fantastic. Every week, we’re talking to farmers who can’t believe the results of using Biolink products,” Kevin said.

Working with land and water
Like many businesses, Rich River Irrigation Developments began as a small operation driven by the incredible commitment and experience of one person.
Since that day in 1980, RRID has grown into a multidisciplinary company that consults on some of Australia’s biggest irrigation and land development projects. The team includes experienced professionals with expertise in all areas of work, including survey and design; irrigation hardware sales, installation, and servicing; and title survey and subdivisions.
In 2004, RRID expanded to take on a Bauer dealership with the objective of providing their clients with the highest quality irrigation equipment, including hard hose irrigators, lateral moves and centre pivots.
Since taking over the Bauer dealership, the Rich River Irrigation
You should ask your supplier the following:

2. Is it strong and self supporting or does it need bracing to hold itself up?
3. Does it have steel in the frame that will rust? (Ours doesn’t!).

New twine technology is here
Heavier hay bales, less downtime and a baler twine that can handle the pressure in the field. Sounds like a fodder contractor’s dream, right?
For up to 30 Australian hay contractors and producers, that has been the reality as part of R&D trials for Tama Australia’s latest product innovation, Impax Twine Technology. No stranger to R&D, Tama commenced global trials for the development of Impax more than three years ago.
An instrumental member to the twine product development team, Tama Oceania regional technical manager Darrell Butler said “with the concept of heavier duty balers coming into the crop baling market, traditional twine technology was becoming too thick, meaning operators were experiencing a lot of downtime fixing broken twines and knotter components. It allowed us to rethink the technology.”
The result of this ‘rethink’ was Impax. A thinner, stronger twine capable of increased knotter performance.
“It provides less downtime, less maintenance, a more workable twine,” Darrell said.
Hence the tagline: ‘Total workability’.
More than 200,000 bales across Australia have been produced using Impax technology during the past three years.
Over in Wagin, Western Australia, hay contractor John Thomson has been baling hay for more than 25 years.
Operating a fleet of eight-string Krone balers as Big Bale Company, John started trialling Impax twine two seasons ago.
“It’s a big improvement to what we were using,” he said.
“We’re having much less trouble in the field with Impax twine which is a real benefit to us.
“Every minute in the paddock is very important that we’re not stopped fixing broken twines.
We’ll be using Impax twine throughout all our machinery, there’s no comparison with other twine. It’s been incredibly successful.“
Impax twine from Tama Australia will be available for the 2023 baling season.

Free 15-minute heart health checks will be offered at Elmore Field Days by a qualified pharmacist as part of La Trobe Health Services’ commitment to regional communities.
La Trobe Health Services chief executive officer Ian Whitehead said regional communities have some of the poorest cardiovascular health outcomes in Australia.
“This initiative is one way to help our members and community check if they are at risk,” Mr Whitehead said. “We’re passionate about supporting better health for our community.
“Regional communities have some of the worst heart health outcomes in Australia, so we really encouraged our members and community to participate in the heart health screenings.”
The heart health checks are free and will run from 8.30 am to 5 pm, Tuesday to Thursday. No booking is required.
During the check each participant is taken through the 15-minute heart health check with a qualified pharmacist at their side.
Key heart health indicators checked during the screening include blood pressure, heart rate, body composition, diabetes risk and nonfasting cholesterol levels.
“Results are provided immediately following the test, with the pharmacist providing key insights on the results, advice on how to keep your heart healthy, and informing participants on how to follow up with your GP in further action is required,” Mr Whitehead said.
According to Amy Sabatini, chief pharmacist with Priceline, coronary heart disease remains the dominant cause of death among Australians with worse outcomes experienced in regional and rural areas.
“It is important to get heart health check-ups to give you the best chance of receiving the right treatment and possibly diagnosing underlying medical conditions,” Ms Sabatini said.
“Our team is looking forward to coming to Elmore Field Days and conducting the heart health checks. We know these checks save lives.” For more information about La Trobe Health Services’ free heart health checks visit: www.latrobehealth.com. au/healthyhearts

Support when farmers need it
Rural Financial Counselling Service Victoria West (RFCS VicWest) is excited to be part of the Elmore Field Days once again in 2023.
Staff will be on hand to talk with farmers and business owners about where they’re at and what they need moving forward. It’s a question for many farmers in the region who RFCS VicWest has already assisted with flood recovery grants.
RFCS has been working with farmers since 1986, and as a notfor-profit business offers free and confidential support for them and small business owners across western Victoria. The service now includes wellbeing support for clients and their families.
With counsellors that come to a client’s home and short waiting lists, our service has gained a positive reputation within rural and regional communities.
RFCS VicWest executive officer David Stafford recognises the importance of agricultural shows and field days to the rural community.
“These events are great opportunities for our team to learn about current issues affecting the farming and small business community,” David said.
“Our counsellors are passionate about their work because they live in the region, many from farming backgrounds themselves.
“When they visit a client at their farm, the connection is real — there’s a sincerity about helping one of their own.”
Storm events, droughts, floods
and bushfire are common reasons for calling the RFCS for help, but less obvious is the assistance the organisation can provide for farmers and small business owners facing climbing interest rates and rising costs.
Aside from clarifying your financial position, our counsellors can negotiate with lenders or creditors on your behalf.
They can assist with a refinancing strategy, debt mediation and exit or succession planning if you’re ready to retire and hand over the farm or business to one or more of your children.
Refuelling Solutions continues its growth in the region with bulk storage facilities in Deniliquin, Shepparton and Barnawartha. With a phone call we can quickly support all your bulk fuel requirements for on-site storage tanks, truck haulage and large projects. Our local team, with decades of knowledge in the fuel industry, are fully committed to working with you to understand your needs and provide the best service possible. Call Mark, Pat or Paul for all your fuel requirements. To see our full range of services visit www.rfs.com.au
Snakes slither into field days
Fosterville Gold Mine has once again come on board as a sponsor to assist with promoting community awareness around reptiles and snakes.
After being a huge hit with the crowds in 2022, Elmore Field Days organisers are excited for Snake Safe Victoria to be attending this year’s event, with daily demonstrations and a wildlife display.
The display will feature a range of Australian wildlife for you to look at and explore.
Throughout the three days Snake Safe Victoria will be conducting halfhour demonstrations — one will be on venomous snakes and snake safety and the second is a wildlife show featuring snakes, crocodiles, wallabies, goannas, lizards, dingoes and more.
The focus of the demonstration will not only be about the snakes themselves but will include information on snake safety. They will discuss the main types of snakes you might encounter in
Victoria, and some tips on what to do when confronted by a snake and techniques to avoid being bitten. Their talks will educate that snakes are not an aggressive species, but more often than not defensive, meaning if you leave them alone then they will leave you alone — but they know in the country this isn’t always possible, so they offer advice on how to treat a snake bite.
Snake Safe Victoria will also have snake bite kits and merchandise to purchase for your summer adventures and there will also be the chance for some photos, with proceeds going back into wildlife conservation.
Don’t miss the opportunity to have an up close and personal experience with some of Australia’s incredible species.

Climate tool gets an update
The Bureau of Meteorology and CSIRO have unveiled a new name for their digital information product, ‘My Climate View’, along with updates to help more farmers make informed decisions now to build climate resilience for decades to come.
Previously known as the Climate Services for Agriculture online platform, My Climate View is unique in providing farmers with critical data to assess how climate trends, including changes to temperature and rainfall, might impact their business for specific commodities and date ranges in their location, to a 5 square kilometre resolution.
Along with the new name, My Climate View has been updated with:
• Climate information on new commodities: avocados, cherries and chickpeas.
• Significant improvements to how users access and view their local and commodity-specific climate information.
• Details on how climate information is calculated.
The Federal Government’s Climate Services for Agriculture program
is a collaboration between the Bureau of Meteorology and Australia’s national science agency, CSIRO.
Bureau of Meteorology Climate Services for Agriculture program director Elizabeth Johnston said My Climate View was a product that had been designed by farmers for farmers.
“The Climate Services for Agriculture team has engaged extensively with Australia’s agricultural sector to understand what climate information and services the sector needs and how it is best presented,” Ms Johnston said.
“It is critical Australian farmers and communities have the locally relevant and commodity-specific information they need to prepare for the future.
“The product presents past and future climate information, all in one place.”
The program team, which includes agricultural scientists, climate scientists, social scientists, digital product developers, and communication and engagement specialists, continues to integrate feedback from farmers and their

advisers across Australia into the My Climate View product.
CSIRO’s Drought Resilience Mission lead Graham Bonnett said more than 2000 people who worked in agriculture had been engaged across Australia.
“My Climate View has been developed to help farmers understand the aspects of future climate that are most relevant to them and what they farm,” Dr Bonnett said.
The Climate Services for Agriculture
program is part of the Federal Government’s Future Drought Fund’s investment into the development of better climate information for Australia’s agriculture sector.

Staying safe around cattle
Developed alongside key beef industry stakeholders, the Beef Cattle Handling Safety Information encourages farmers to make achievable changes to keep everyone on their farm safe.
It is part of a three-year push to provide practical support and resources to help farmers and others assess their cattle handling practices and yard facilities and identify areas for improvement.
Cattle handling is the second most common cause of workplace death on Victorian farms, claiming four lives since 2018, while an average of almost one person every week is injured seriously enough while working with cattle to receive workers’ compensation.
WorkSafe executive director of health and safety Narelle Beer said the key message — It’s the least I can do — harnessed people’s desire to “do the right thing” and encouraged farmers to take a fresh look at the safety of their cattle handling facilities and practices. “We know safety is not a fixed concept, it’s an ongoing process and we’re working alongside farmers, workers, cattle service providers and the wider industry to help everyone reach at least a basic level
of safety and strive for continual improvement,” Dr Beer said.
“WorkSafe is committed to offering practical advice and not leaving farmers and workers with a problem to figure out on their own.
“We know every farm is different, that’s why we’ve worked closely with industry to create information that will offer valuable support to those working with cattle on farms.”
Speaking in a video with WorkSafe, South Gippsland beef farmer Peter Miller said ongoing maintenance was key to safe and efficient yards.
“Yard maintenance is important, why have something that doesn’t work? It’s just so simple … and it just makes it more enjoyable to work if everything’s working the way it should,” Mr Miller said.
“It’s the least we can do to make them safe for everyone else who’s working in there.”
The project’s initial push will be to encourage small improvements for

big wins in safety and efficiency, with a focus on yard maintenance, surfaces and gates and latches. The guidance includes a printable checklist to help evaluate the safety of yards and identify where improvements should be made.
Further messaging will target topics including working alone, loading ramps, drafting, safety conversations, mustering and yard design.

Tractor pull returns in 2024
The first Australian modified tractor pull was held at the Elmore Field Days in 1976, and in 2022 the Elmore Events Centre was excited to bring the tractor pull back to where it all began.
The Elmore & District Machinery Field Days Committee, St Joseph’s Primary School Rochester and Down Under Modified Tractor Pulling Association (Down Under MTPA) partnered together to present this event, which was a great success.
What is a tractor pull? A modified tractor pulls a weighted sled along an 11 m wide and 100 m long dirt track, and as the tractor pulls the sled further the more forward the weight goes on the sled causing the sled to get harder to pull.
When the tractor “pulls” the whole 100 m this is called a full pull. Tractor pulling is known as most powerful motorsport due to some tractors having more than one engine with some of them being over 1000 hp.
The Elmore Tractor Pull will be back on March 16, 2024. Head to www. facebook.com/elmoretractorpull for up-to-date information and purchase tickets closer to the event.
“We are planning for another huge event in 2024, with some exciting activities happening alongside it,” Elmore Tractor Pull Committee member Grant Shawcross said. Come and talk to the Down Under MPTA and check out some of their tractors on site at this year’s Elmore Field Days. Follow them on Facebook for their season dates and information on the tractors.
Volunteers are key to success
The Elmore & District Machinery Field Days Committee was formed by local community members in 1964, and has been run by volunteers ever since.
Today the organisation is still owned and run by the community, and there are currently 25 volunteer committee members.
The organisation wouldn’t be still going strong if it wasn’t for the decades of hard work and dedication from subsequent
volunteer committees and subcommittees to ensure every event is even more successful than the last.
“It is great to be involved in an organisation that puts so much back to the community and its members,” former president David Trewick said.
“Many past and present members, including myself, have been given the opportunity to complete courses and learn life and business skills, such as safety, accounting and marketing, that we can apply to our everyday lives and own occupations.”
During the annual Elmore Field Days, more than 300 volunteers look after everything from parcel pick-up and parking, to waste management and the parenting centre.
Organisations receive a compensation for the hours they volunteer at the event.
“We rely on the volunteers for support during the event and they rely on us for the support we give back to the community,” David said.
“We want to say a huge thank you to all incredible volunteers — we appreciate all the time and effort you put in.”
60 YEARS OF THE ELMORE FIELD DAYS COMMITTEE TESTIMONIALS
I have always found the Elmore Field Days to be a great social group. I remember when we would have a little hut on the site that we would have a few drinks in, and even the local police officer at the time would ride out to partake in a few too!
- Bruce MckenzieI remember the flood in 1975 I had to duck dive down to hook machinery and trailers up to be towed out of the water. It was a great effort by all involved to ensure that almost everything was saved in time. All the work was done with good humor, many laughs, and a few cold drinks!
- Ged McCormickIt is amazing to see how the community pulls together to run the Field Days, and how all the community groups pull off such a large feat. We have come a long way, but it is amazing to see how things have grown over the past 50 years.
-Max WilliamsBeing a part of the Elmore Field Days is so important as young people need to be involved in organisations like these so that they are still around for many years to come. It is very special to be a part of something that has had now three generations of my family involved.
- Clara HolmbergIt’s great to see all the hard work and preparation for the field days come together every year in October. I also enjoy getting out and talking to the exhibitors and learning about new technology or practices within the industry.
