Leading farm machinery manufacturer John Berends Implements continues to serve the agricultural sector with Australian-made, high-quality and well-priced agricultural machinery.
The philosophy behind most new designs has always asked: “How can it be built strong enough for the intended job but simple enough to keep it affordable for farmers?”
Operating since 1966 and still family owned, the company is one of the last of its kind manufacturing in Australia.
General manager Derrick Berends said most local businesses that once manufactured their own implements now relied on imports.
“We believe it is important that Australia retains a local manufacturing sector,” Derrick said.
“This was crucially seen during the COVID pandemic when supply and cost issues for imported machinery became a significant problem for Australian farmers.
“We are proud that we were able to increase production to meet this need and hope that potential customers will factor in the importance of retaining the reliability of local manufacturers when assessing the cost benefit analysis of machinery purchases.”
Derrick believes manufacturers of imported products often lack knowledge of Australia’s farming conditions.
“Too often we see the poorer quality of workmanship and components, lack of after-market service and unavailability of spare parts have let some of these imported products down,” he said.
“Another issue is that customers are being sold machinery which is too light and not fit for purpose.
“This is where having 50-plus years of experience and a good network of dealers who can offer the right advice and back up the product they sell is so important.”
John Berends Implements is delighted once again to exhibit at the Elmore Field Days with Bertolis Farm Machinery, in a partnership that spans more than 40 years.
You’re invited to visit them at sites 897 and 899 to discuss your implement requirements.

Compliant chemical storage is more important than ever for cropping enterprises looking to improve on-farm safety and gain sustainable grain certification.
In response, chemical shed projects are becoming popular in 2024, and the Action Steel team are manufacturing and installing purpose-built sheds right across Victoria’s cropping regions.
This increased demand is largely driven by Sustainable Grain Australia implementing International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) to audit growers and certify Australian grains such as canola as sustainable.
The auditing process for sustainable grain covers topics such as cropping rotations, paddock inspections, waste management, general farm safety and chemical use and storage. A significant benefit of the ISCC system is that it provides growers
and exporters with access to international markets, such as the European biofuel market which pays a premium for certified canola. So, it pays to have compliant chemical storage.
If you are looking to gain sustainable grain certification and need to upgrade your chemical storage, there are several requirements in the self-assessment and audit checklist.
Firstly, your chemical shed needs to be a secure lock-up structure that is suitable for storing chemicals, it should be manufactured from inflammable materials and have a RE30 rating, which means it will resist a fire for 30 minutes.
Required signage is also necessary, ensuring the shed is well-ventilated and well-illuminated and has a sealed and bunded concrete slab with the appropriate storage volume and drainage.
Compliant chemical storage does seem to be a topic with limited information available; however, the building consultants at Action Steel can provide advice and recommendations.
For example, Action Steel recommend paying attention to shed access points to ensure that

the shed can be safely exited in case of an emergency.
The shed layout is also an important consideration, addressing such things as storing flammable chemicals away from access points and installing pallet racking to allow solid fertilisers to be stored above liquid fertilisers.
The building consultants at Action Steel have also developed a range of Standard Chemical Sheds to address the options available for compliant
storage and includes three configuration options for varying operational requirements such as sprayer bays and undercover wash down areas.
Sizes available range from 50 shuttle spaces to 70-plus shuttle spaces and the designs include lockable doors, ventilation and bunded concrete slabs for compliance.
If upgrading your on-farm chemical storage, the Standard Chemical
Shed Range is an excellent starting point.
A Standard Chemical Sheds Brochure which includes sizes, prices and design options and inclusions is available at www.actionsteel.com.au

Having access to on-farm storing and handling facilities for grain can have many advantages, and purchasing good quality silos and accompanying handling equipment can pay for itself sooner than expected.
On-farm storage enhances your control over grain marketing opportunities and boosts profits.
With a solid track record, Kotzur is your reliable partner in designing and implementing storage and handling systems that cater to your needs now and in the future.
After 70 years in the industry, Kotzur has worked to develop the knowledge and tools to increase harvest efficiency, protect grain quality and, ultimately, maximise return on any investment.
Their drying and aeration control systems allow farmers to harvest earlier, at higher moisture contents, and extend their grain’s storage capacity.
Kotzur’s transportable silos are highly sought-after in NSW, providing farmers with flexible sizing options to build their on-farm storage capacity to meet budget capacities.
Transportable silos are ideal for grain blending and grain segregation, improving grain marketing options.
We are proudly Australia’s off-grid solar and battery experts. For well over a decade we have helped thousands of people power up their dream property.
Chat to Aaron, Rory, Helen or Alex about making your new off-grid lifestyle a reality.
The silos come fully assembled and delivered ready to use, providing a costeffective medium- to long-term grain storage options.
Kotzur silos range in capacity size between 31 and 231 cubic metres and are gas sealed to the Australian Standard AS 2628, making them ideal for fumigation and reliable pest eradication.
Across the country, farmers are realising the benefits of a well-thought-out master plan for on-farm grain storage. With a proactive approach to storage, grain quality can be protected for an extended period of time, thereby maximising potential returns when markets are favourable.
Kotzur customer and organic grain grower Paul Murphy has been using Kotzur products for a number of years, including additional purchases in 2023.
“We need silos that can stand up in a storm, we have been impressed with the sealing and durability of the Kotzur silos, which has motivated us to increase our storage capacity using further Kotzur products over the years,” Paul said.
The Kotzur sales team will be at site 1093 at the Elmore Field Days, along with two transportable silos from Kotzur’s range for customers to see first-hand.
Speak to the sales team to discuss the planning process and how Kotzur can support on-farm storage vision.

As a regular exhibitor at the Elmore Field Days, the Michael’s Group is always eager to showcase their range of first-rate machinery to customers new and old.
The award-winning Victorian-based JCB dealership has been coming to Elmore Field Days since the 1980s.
Dealer principal at the Michael’s Group Moama branch, Brad Michael, said Elmore Field Days offers a fantastic opportunity for their team to engage with their customers.
“The opportunity to interact and catch up with all our customers in one place is what keeps us coming back,” Brad said.
“It’s also a good platform for us to educate potential new customers on our range of machines.”
The group has a reputation for prioritising their customers, a reputation that has led them to receive recognition for their exceptional after-sales support.
Brad said he is proud to be part of a group that is known for its highquality service.
“We received an award for being the number one (JCB) dealer in the world for after-sales service and support, and we still hold this today,” he said.
“Our customers are widespread. They are in the grain business, hay, beef, dairy, chicken — it’s all over agriculture.”
The Michael’s Group offers a full range of on-farm and workshop servicing for agricultural and construction equipment.
They also supply an extensive range of machines to the construction sector, including earthmoving equipment, backhoes, excavators and wheeled loaders.
And as specialist JCB dealers, they service all JCB models from mini excavators and skid steers through to large loaders and heavy excavators.
Brad says they will showcase a great range of JCB equipment at this year’s Elmore Field Days, and are particularly eager to exhibit the JCB 8330 Icon tractor.
With a top speed of 70km/h, plug and play GPS capability and the best powertrain and suspension combination, the Fastrac 8330 tractor is built for a life of hard work, while providing maximum comfort.
It has more implement mounting versatility than any other tractor
in its class, plus the largest, most comfortable cab on the market.
“Fastracs have been historically considered primarily as a tow tractor but now with the new Icon series they are now equally as capable, if not more, than any other brand of tractor for traditional paddock work,” Brad said.
The Michael’s Group has dealerships in Donald, Moama, Ballarat and Traralgon.
The extraordinary growth of Till Automotive Group over seven years can be attributed to the two-way street of excellent staffing and management.
Brad Till said his group of automotive outlets — starting with the purchase of the Geelong site in 2017 — was a family business, with his son working in sales, his daughter as the business manager and his wife in finance.
The other family at Till Automotive comprises his longstanding staff.
“We like having these staff and they like working for us,” Brad said.
“It is important to surround yourself with the best people and simply let them do their job. And you need to be an employer of choice.”
Brad said the company accommodated staff needs, supporting them with such things as school pick-ups, and described
the reciprocation as “one nice big roundabout in the swings and roundabouts world”.
“If you are good to your staff, they look after the customers, and you find the business will look after itself,” he said.
It is no surprise then, that from just 12 staff seven years ago at their Geelong outlet, the company has grown to employ 50 people across six sites in Ballarat, Bendigo and Geelong.
The core business of Till Automotive is trucks.
“And among our stable are Hino, Hyundai and Sinotruks,” Brad said.
“The Sinotruk comes from China and it’s interesting that they actually make one truck every 90 seconds.”
At the Elmore Field Days, Till Automotive will showcase three Mahindra tractors, a Hyundai forklift and three Develon mini-excavators.
A Ford F-150 Lightning electric ute will be a highlight.
Till Automotive also stocks LDV utes and vans and even the iconic Indian Motorcycle, still built by the 116-year-old (and world’s oldest) motorcycle company.
In addition to a small rental business, Till Automotive has two Bendigo Auto Centre branches at Golden Gully — for light vehicle repair, RWC, servicing and airconditioning — and Kangaroo Flat for heavy vehicle and trucks servicing and RWC.

The National Farmers’ Federation welcomed the delay to the 3G network closure, with Telstra and Optus launching a public safety awareness campaign to make sure people take action.
The network was due to close at the end of August but, as the deadline loomed, an extension until October 28 was announced.
NFF president David Jochinke said while people now had until October 28 to prepare, it was important they didn’t leave it to the last minute.
“This is not the time to take a ‘she’ll be right’ attitude,” Mr Jochinke said.
“I urge people to check their devices urgently and make sure they are compatible with the 4G and 5G networks.”
Beyond mobile phones, the NFF urged rural Australians to think about what other technologies might be using the 3G network. This includes ag tech such as livestock and dog trackers, weather stations, soil moisture probes, yield monitors and variable rate technology.
There’s also security cameras, EFTPOS machines, medical
monitors, 3G landlines (NGWL), repeaters, antennas and electronic road signs.
“If you don’t know whether your device runs on the 3G network, you must contact the manufacturer to find out. Make sure this is on the top of your priority list,” Mr Jochinke said.

National shade shed manufacturer Transportable Shade Sheds Australia (TSS) will be at this year’s Elmore Field Days, with the family owned business bringing some display shade sheds from Mackay in Queensland.
Moggy’s Group purchased the intellectual property and the majority of the manufacturing equipment in early 2023.
Moggy’s Group director James Mogford said he was excited to add the transportable shade shed product to his group of companies.
James said, with its patented design, the Australian-mtade product was the original and best shade shed on the market.
“We have had so much positive feedback from previous customers who were genuinely excited to see the product return to the market,” James said.
“We have a brand new team led by operations manager Lyn Kane, sales manager Tahnee Gray and production supervisor Ally Blank.
“We did consider changing the name but in the end we decided that the name represented the product and the product remains the original and best shade shed on the market,” James said.
“The product is so good that we think its legacy will speak for itself.
“The design has been around for more than 20 years.
“These sheds are 30 per cent stronger than any other shade shed on the market. It’s because of the way we bend and swage the steel — and they’re so quick and easy to assemble.”
James said his team was committed to revitalising the brand and fostering positive change.
He said customers could expect a renewed focus on quality, transparency and customer satisfaction.
“Our aim is to build a brand that stands for quality, integrity, and a positive customer experience,” he said.
The company manufactures at its Pleystowe premises and delivers Australia-wide.

There are lots of myths and stereotypes when it comes to getting older, but it’s proven that how we age is mostly determined by the lifestyle choices we make each day.
LiveUp is packed with impartial information and resources, helpful product suggestions, and local activities and groups to help you take charge of how you’re ageing.
It may be the first generational succession from father to son, but at Delecca’s Machine Sales, Service and Hire, it’s bound to be the start of a multi-generational future.
Jason Delecca has this year taken the reins from parents Ron and Leigh as he embarks the company into its next successful chapter as a leader in rural Victoria and southern NSW for sales and servicing of earthmoving, construction, agriculture and materials handling equipment.
Part of that success will be the qualified staff from Delecca’s manning the company’s site at this year’s Elmore Field Days.
Sales manager Jim Boyd said the expertise on site was important.
“The whole team will be there,” Jim said.
“Even the technical staff, too, for any technical questions that customers might have.”
Jim said the Delecca name was synonymous with Bobcats after more than four decades of trading.
“It might be a cliché, but the Bobcat really is one tough animal,” he said.
“It is the materials handling answer to any agricultural business.”
Delecca’s will have on display at Elmore several of its ‘tough animals’, showcasing the telehandler options, where Bobcats are fitted with extendable arms for that extra reach.
“It’s more than suitable for earthmoving, or handling hay bales, compost or grain,” Jim said.
“We are not breaking new ground with the telehandler but we are a better quality product — superior.”
Delecca’s honours the legacy of Ron and Leigh by continuing to pride itself on offering an exceptional selection of premium products and services, with expertise to provide specialised solutions tailored to anyone’s needs.
Get ready for an epic 3 days at Elmore Field Days, October 1st-3rd! Swing by our site, give the team a G’day, and check out all your favourite brands!
Like many businesses, Rich River Irrigation Developments began as a small operation driven by the incredible commitment and experience of one person.
From that day in 1980, RRID has grown the team to include professionals in irrigation survey and design; irrigation hardware sales, installation and servicing; and title survey and subdivisions.
Still headed by RRID’s founder, the team provides an extensive range of surveying services — including broadacre, topographical, detail, set out for construction, and works as executed — and can design for both surface and spray irrigation systems. Since expanding to take on a Bauer dealership in 2004, RRID has also been providing clients with the highest quality irrigation equipment including hard hose irrigators, lateral moves and centre pivots.
The team members regularly train at Bauer’s headquarters in Austria, making RRID one of Australia’s most experienced Bauer retailers.
The sales and servicing team also has a vast range of experience with pumps and pipelines and can project

manage irrigation developments from start to finish.
Rich River Irrigation Developments is a proud member of Irrigation Association of Australia (IAA), Institution of Surveyors (ISA), Spatial Sciences Institute (SSI) and Irrigation Surveyors and Designers
Group (ISDG), and is licensed for cadastral survey in Victoria, NSW and Western Australia.
As a multidisciplinary company, RRID consults on some of Australia’s biggest irrigation and land development projects, but has never lost sight of the
small farmers and regional businesses nearby.
RRID is committed to working with the local community around Echuca-Moama and the Riverina region, and will always make time to sit down and listen.
On display at Elmore will be the full range of sheep and cattle handling equipment from New Zealand-based company Te Pari, as it returns to the field days once again.
Te Pari will showcase for the first time in Australia the new Racewell Sheep Handler.
Marketing manager and third generation family member Corban Blampied said the company is known for supplying high-quality automated handling, weighing and drafting equipment.
“Our story is about how we are always innovating, and looking to improve old ways or products,“ Corban said.
“One of the showpieces on the day will be the new Racewell Sheep Handler.
“The existing models are very well known in the market, but we’ve been working with our global customer base, taking on feedback and suggestions, and are proud to be showcasing the new Racewell for the first time in Australia.”
The new Racewell Sheep Handler (Series 2) has been in the making for more than two years, with Te Pari redesigning the critical areas of the handler.
The company took the time to perfect a product offering more advantages versus the existing Racewell sheep handler, while also improving the durability of a product that was already wellknown for being able to last.
“We’ve taken on-board suggestions and feedback from customers, added in a few of our own ideas, and dipped into some good old-fashioned Kiwi
know-how, and developed a new handler that’s easier to use and more efficient for the farmer and the livestock,” manufacturing manager Nick Blampied said.
One big change is the addition of a larger tilt ram, which introduces cushioning at the end of the stroke with the tilt movement more controlled when handling larger animals.
Quick, easy and cost effective way of feeding all types of large square bales in an even and consistent manner. Feeds out two bales simultaneously while the unique push bar system holds the bale together until the very end. Also makes a great straw applicator for herd homes, calving pads and sheds.
It is less jarring on the animal and the parts, meaning there is reduced wear and tear.
To accommodate the bigger pneumatic rams, the chassis has been beefed up, having a slightly wider frame and moving to a stronger 75 x 50x4 mm steel profile. Adding to the reinforcements are new bushes on the crush wall, removing the steel-on-steel wear points seen on the old units.
Overall, the Te Pari Racewell Sheep Handler (Series 2) is stronger and easier to use. It takes the hard work out of sheep handling and is built to last using a cost-effective process with robotic welders, tube lasers and CNC machinery.
Te Pari will also have their full range of cattle handling equipment on site this year, which includes a full range of manual, powered and fully automatic cattle crushes.
A showpiece will be the Automatic Hydraulic Headbail, a world-first for cattle handling.
For 96 years the Kress brand has built a reputation around advanced German engineering, and today boasts of its commitment to ensuring the commercial landscape and maintenance industry has a zero-emission future.
Kress produces industry-leading, commercial quality, battery outdoor power equipment (OPE) and robotic lawnmowers.
In spring last year, the wellestablished Positec Group launched Kress in Australia.
The company’s OPE range rivals the performance of traditional petrol-powered landscaping equipment, while significantly lowering operational expenses and minimising its carbon footprint.
The innovative CyberSystem battery technology offers a sustainable transition from petrol- to battery-
powered OPE to help both profitability and the environment. Current battery-powered equipment often falls short for the needs of commercial landscapers, significantly impacting productivity.
The limited lifespan of conventional batteries makes them a costlier alternative to traditional petrolpowered equipment.
This is where Kress raises the bar for sustainability, productivity and profitability.
A groundbreaking battery technology is at the heart of the eight-minute CyberPack innovation, which leverages proprietary chemistry to deliver high-current flow, without the typical heat build-up that accelerates battery degradation.
This breakthrough allows for unprecedented power and a full charge in only eight minutes while ensuring unmatched longevity, backed by an eight-year/3000cycle limited warranty (five plus three years or 2000 plus 1000 charging cycles — whichever comes first — and the additional warranty period applies only if customers register their Kress products at www.kress.com/en-au/ within 30 days of purchase).
The Kress CyberSystem features a unique selection of portable DCDC chargers, enabling ultra-fast battery charging on the go when kilometres away from the nearest AC power source.
The system is the first and only battery power supply that will allow commercial landscapers to finally replace their expensive petrol equipment without sacrificing performance, power or run-time.
There can be no more excuses to keep operating noisy, high-cost petrol equipment or wasting time with cordless battery tools that won’t get the job done.
Each Kress commercial-grade tool is designed and engineered for heavyduty use with a high-efficiency brushless motor and state-of-the-art features and performance.
Kress also offers a unique business model designed to support landscape maintenance companies. This model revolutionises the traditional approach to fleet renewal by eliminating upfront costs, preserving working capital and relying on manageable monthly instalments.
To find out more, see your local Kress dealer or visit www.kress.com/en-au/

For the community of Rochester, AG Warehouse has been more than just a well-trusted stalwart in supplying agricultural supplies to the local farming community.
In the wake of the 2022 floods, it became a major and muchwelcomed contributor to the town’s recovery.
As one of 27 retail stores (and 10 fertiliser depots) spread across Victoria, NSW and Tasmania, the dedicated Rochester team of eight brings with it more than 100 years of experience and access to a huge range of products and knowledge.
Not limited to the big producers, AG Warehouse also takes pride in supporting those with small acreage and even townsfolk with garden supplies, pet and produce, clothing and dairy products.
Marketing coordinator Narelle Taylor said such basic supplies were crucial to the district’s postflood recovery.
“We assisted with fencing supplies for farmers but also helped those in town with something as basic cleaning products, pet food and long-life milk,” Narelle said.
“At the same time, we have the staff with the knowledge and the stock
on hand to help a farmer sow 200 hectares.
“It’s all about the resilience of the town and community and for 30
long years we have seen how the town always recovers.”
Key to AG Warehouse’s support for growers is the role of Ian Pearse,
the business’s resident agronomist who brings more than four decades of experience to the farming community.
“He’s a very experienced senior technical agronomist,” Narelle said.
Equine specialist Michael Manning is also on hand for any horse enthusiasts needing that bit more expertise.
The ‘well-rounded’ Jack-of-all-trades Craig Enders is also available to give advice.
“On anything, really,” Narelle said. “He knows a lot about lots of things.”

The Southern Skin Cancer Clinic team looks forward to the annual trip to the Elmore Field Days, where they will provide bulkbilled skin cancer checks to visitors.
“Our team are extremely passionate about visiting regional areas who often lack these important medical services in their area,” the clinic said.
“We understand it is hard to find the time to get a check-up, which is why we have brought our clinic to you — to make it as easy as possible to have a skin cancer check-up.
“Having seen thousands of patrons in rural Victoria and NSW over the years, finding hundreds of skin cancers including 200plus melanomas, we continue to spread the word of the importance — especially for farmers, who spend most of their time outdoors — to have at least one skin check every year.
“It just might save your life.”
Skin cancer does not discriminate and is not, as some people might think, an old person’s disease. Sun damage just keeps adding up and eventually is likely to become a skin cancer.
Statistically two out of three people in Australia will develop some type of skin cancer before the age of 70, the Southern Skin Cancer Clinic says, highlighting the importance of being SUNSMART by protecting your skin and eyes from excessive sunlight and getting regular skin checks.
Have you noticed a mole or freckle changing over a period of months — particularly if it grows in size or shape, becomes mottled in colour or irregular in outline — or do you have a mole you persistently itch or a mole that is lumpy or bleeds easily when rubbed with a towel and turns into a sore that doesn’t heal?
These are all common signs you may have a skin cancer.
The Southern Skin Cancer Clinic says if you’ve never had a skin check before, or if you’re due for a yearly check-up, don’t put it off any longer.

Kelpies are known for intelligence and discipline, and the Beloka Kelpies demonstrations certainly prove this to be true.
The Beloka Kelpies dogs will perform at the Elmore Field Days this year, demonstrating all the precision, intellect and discipline the breed has.
Owner Paul Macphail said their demonstration was all about “showing off the abilities of the pups”, particularly how they “work the stock”.
Adult kelpies, as well as the pups, will be performing at the field days.
Paul said he wanted to show the “brilliance” of the breed to the audience through their demonstration as well as entertain the attendees.
During the demonstration, Paul will discuss the uniqueness of the breed and how their training and enrichment needs differ from other breeds.
Beloka Kelpies is a kelpie stud in Welshpool, run by Paul and his partner Anneke Homan. Paul started the stud in 1992 and has been breeding and training dogs ever since.
Beloka Kelpies are well known in Australia and their dogs have been sold all over the world.
They also run working dog training for both city and farm dog handlers, and twice a year they run working dog trials at the Beloka farm. It’s an event which grows every year, and is a great weekend for trialers and spectators.
Families are guaranteed to love watching Paul and his dogs as they go through their moves.
You can find the Beloka Kelpies at site 1042.

NHG aims to develop close, longterm relationships with clients and instil confidence in the NHG brand by providing high-quality, reliable equipment that fulfils customer needs, when and where they need it.
NHG employs local people with bright personalities and a positive can-do attitude who understand local conditions, issues and limitations.
Staff take pride in their work, customer satisfaction and the success of the business.
Northern Hire Group director Chris Feldbauer began his journey into plant and equipment hire when, as a teenager, he worked weekends at Echuca Hire to supplement his meagre apprentice wage.
Many years later, in addition to his floor sanding business
Prosanding Timber & Concrete, Chris began his own specialised hire company — Northern Generator Hire and Maxwell Mobile Signs — stocking generators and VMS boards.
When Echuca Hire closed its doors in 2014, Chris often drove past the

empty yard, keenly aware of the loss of plant and equipment hire options in Echuca.
So in early 2015, Chris created Northern Hire Group, and a year later he filled that empty yard and opened the doors of his new business.
From its very inception, NHG has prided itself on its great range of quality plant and equipment for hire and the ability to adapt to surpass the needs and expectations of clients.
The ever-increasing range meets the specifi c needs of many different industries, including access, agriculture, civil construction, commercial trades, council and government departments, earthmoving, event organisers, local Indigenous groups and councils, land development, landscape and garden, renewable power supply, residential trades, road and rail infrastructure, sporting clubs and waste management.
With a fleet of heavy vehicles across four depots in Echuca and a fifth one in Bendigo, stock is easily moved across Victoria and southern NSW to where it is needed, including client sites.
Northern Hire Group is where “one call hires it all”.
Peter Hodge has been operating his camel rides for more than 30 years and is coming to the Elmore Field Days once again.
He delights in his camels all being unique.
“They are all different in character and personality,” Peter said.
“Bam-Bam is the cheeky one and he’s the boss of the paddock.
“They are placed in order on the rides for one reason or another.”
Bam-Bam leads the team, with Sid in the middle due to his reliability, and 20-year-old Pretty Boy taking up the rear due to his placid nature.
Peter obtained his camels from the wild and raised them to become domesticated on his 33 ha camel farm at Cosgrove.
“For example, Sid came wild from outside Narrabri in north-eastern NSW.
“But camels can be tamed and taught to quieten down quite quickly.”
Peter’s expertise is founded on making his camels’ health and happiness a priority.
Consideration is given to the amount of weight his ‘caravan’ of hard workers lifts.
“We make sure our camels are not put under any stress, by using a loading platform for riders to mount and dismount safely.”
The walking style of camels brings some interesting feedback from riders.
“They say the camels are lumpy and bumpy,” Peter said.
“Because they walk like a pacer horse, with legs on each side moving together, they rock from side to side; it’s why they are called the ships of the desert.
“It’s what people like about the ride; besides, you’re eight feet [2.4m] up in the air.”

Barker Trailers comes to the Elmore Field Days with a long experience of providing
that have helped thousands of customers achieve their milestones.
This year the business is honoured to celebrate its own milestone — 2024 marks the company’s 50th anniversary as a family owned, Australian manufacturing business.
The Barker Trailers’ story began in 1974 when brothers Ernie and Arthur Barker, with their passion for craftsmanship, started their own business with a vision of creating high-quality, customised semi-trailers, focusing on local manufacturing and creating local jobs.
Second generation managing director Scott Barker said the company could not be prouder.
“During this journey we’ve continued to pride ourselves on building trailers that our customers are proud to haul,” Scott said.
“And because we understand that no customer or freight task is the same, we’ve continued to offer customisation and embrace individual needs.”
Barker Trailers digs deep to understand which design attributes would be most economically efficient to each customer.
The efficiency, along with safety and compliance, is critical to customers’ success.
To that end, Barker Trailers also ensures the safety of its employees as its number one priority and continues to look for safer and more efficient ways of building their trailers, while delivering safer products to customers.
Barker Trailers’ ethos has always been centred around building the most durable and reliable products.
“We understand that down-time is lost revenue for our customers, and that is why we aim to build products that our customers can depend on,” Scott said.
“We pride ourselves on our ongoing and complete after-sales support, whether that’s spare parts, repairs and, when the time comes,
specialising in full refurbishments, breathing new life into older equipment.
“As we reflect on the years gone, we would like to express our sincere gratitude to every single customer for their continued support and trust and we look forward to continuing to put them at the heart of everything we do.”
The satisfaction that drives the company comes from the customers themselves. Here are some customer reviews:
“We trust Barker Trailers to get the job done. Right now, we have 28 Barker Trailers and six more on the way! The trailers are durable and simply a good product.” Taylor Hall, Valley Pack
“Probably the biggest takeaway from your products would be the flexibility, quality and ease of maintenance of the trailers. Managing to get a product with a light tare weight while not
sacrificing quality was a bonus.” Rick Bare, G-Earthworks
“We are still running exclusively Barker Trailers and between my son Brad and myself we must have had nearly 20 of them now. Just buy the Barker, you can’t break ‘em!” Greg Baker, Moama Haulage.
What’s on show at Elmore
The Hay Spec B-double:
• The option of going for a trailer that is crafted specifically to cart hay or design your trailer with flexibility in mind, giving you the option to be able to move other goods with confidence and ease outside of the hay season.
• Standard ¾ high gate pockets allow for hay to be expelled with time-saving ease.
• The capacity and correct dimensions to cater for jumbo rectangular bales when required.
• Barker Trailers engineers collaborate on design with each customer to maximise the usable space for bale loading while remaining compliant to industry standards.
• Providing safe and efficient unloading, the range of versatile floor options will have the right one for you.
• Tailored freight task specific designs, varying from woodchip, almond hulls, general waste and compost, to mixed recycling and more.
• Barkers Trailers’ moving floors result in high payloads and fewer trips, providing a capacity of up to 120 cubic metres in a single trailer or 190 cubic metres for a combination.

The Elmore & District Machinery Field Days Committee was formed by local community members in 1964, and has been run by volunteers ever since.
Today the organisation is still owned and run by the community, and there are currently 23 volunteer committee members.
The organisation wouldn’t be still going strong if it wasn’t for the decades of hard work and dedication from subsequent
volunteer committees and subcommittees to ensure every event is even more successful than the last.
“It is great to be involved in an organisation that puts so much back to the community and its members,” former president David Trewick said.
“Many past and present members, including myself, have been given the opportunity to complete courses and learn life and business skills, such as safety, accounting and marketing, that we can apply to our everyday lives and own occupations.”
During the annual Elmore Field Days, more than 300 volunteers look after everything from parcel pick-up and parking, to waste management and the parenting centre.
Organisations receive a compensation for the hours they volunteer at the event.
“We rely on the volunteers for support during the event and they rely on us for the support we give back to the community,” David said.
“We want to say a huge thank you to all incredible volunteers — we appreciate all the time and effort you put in.”

Butterflied Lamb Leg with Kale Salad
Serves 6
Ingredients:
• 1.5kg lamb leg, butterflied
• ¼ cup (60ml) olive oil
• 2 red onions, thinly sliced
• ¼ cup currants
• 1 bunch kale, washed, trimmed, finely shredded
• 2 medium carrots, peeled and grated
• 2 tbsp lemon juice
Yoghurt Sauce:
• 2 garlic cloves, crushed
• 1 cup (260g) Greek-style yoghurt
• 2 tbsp finely chopped round mint (plus extra sprigs to serve)
Method:
Preheat barbecue to medium and cook lamb, covered, for 25 minutes, turning halfway. Transfer to a clean plate, season, loosely cover with foil and rest for 10 minutes. Thinly slice lamb.
Meanwhile, heat oil in a large nonstick frying pan over medium heat. Add onions and currants, season and cook for 10-12 minutes or until onions have softened and caramelised.
Add kale, carrot and lemon juice; toss to combine. Cook for a further minute then remove to serving bowl. Serve with sliced lamb, yoghurt sauce and mint sprigs.
For the yoghurt sauce, combine all ingredients in a small bowl with half a teaspoon of sea salt flakes. Stir to combine, adding enough warm water to give it a thick creamy consistency.
Tips:
Ensure the thickness of the butterflied lamb leg is even by slicing and opening out the thicker half. This will ensure even cooking. Leftover lamb can be sliced and added to a salad with sliced baby cos lettuce and tabbouleh. Make sandwiches from leftover lamb; other fillings can include pickles and sliced tomato or hummus and sliced cucumber.
Turkish Lamb Pita Serves 4
Ingredients:
• 600g lamb mince
• 1 red onion, finely chopped
• 1 tsp ground cumin
• 1 tbsp harissa paste
• ¼ cup fresh parsley leaves, finely chopped
• salt & pepper
• 2 tsp olive oil
To serve: Pita pockets, garlic dip, beetroot hummus, tabouli, Lebanese cucumber, sliced tomato and baby spinach leaves.
Method:
In a large bowl, combine lamb mince, onion, cumin, harissa paste, parsley and a good pinch of salt and pepper. Mix well. Divide into 4 portions and shape into burgers. Refrigerate for 30 minutes.
Preheat barbecue to medium. Brush patties with oil and cook for 5 to 6 mins per side, or until just cooked through.
Arrange burgers, bread, dips and toppings on a large platter, and let everyone serve themselves.
Tip:
Part or all of the harissa can be replaced with tomato paste if preferred.
Barbecued Forequarter Chops with Salmoriglio
Serves 2
Ingredients:
• 2 x 220g forequarter chops
• ½ tbsp olive oil
• 1 bunch asparagus, trimmed
• 400g tinned cannellini beans, rinsed and drained
• 2 celery stalks, thinly sliced
Salmoriglio:
• 2 tbsp olive oil
• 1 tbsp lemon juice
• 1 tbsp finely chopped curly parsley
• 1 tbsp fresh oregano leaves, chopped
• 1 garlic clove, crushed
To serve: lemon wedges
Method:
Heat barbecue to medium-high heat. Bring chops to room temperature. Rub lightly with oil and season.
Grill asparagus on the barbecue for 3 to 4 minutes until charred all over. Transfer to a bowl and add beans and celery. Season; toss to combine.
Cook chops for 3 to 4 minutes until moisture appears on one side. Turn chops and cook for a further 3 minutes or until cooked to your liking. Transfer to a plate, cover loosely with foil and rest for a few minutes.
For the Salmoriglio: Combine all ingredients in a screw top jar; season and shake to combine.
Serve the chops with vegetables, salmoriglio sauce and lemon wedges.
Tips:
Brush a combination of oregano, pepper and oil on any of your barbecued meats with a ‘brush’ made of fresh herbs.
Salmoriglio is a southern Italian dressing made up of lemon juice, garlic and fresh oregano. It is traditionally served with roasted meats and seafood but is also delicious spooned over roasted pumpkin or potatoes.

CQUniversity researchers are working on an Australianfirst bid to improve agricultural safety, productivity and health.
The Farming and Fatigue: Growing Sensible Solutions project aims to help the agriculture industry understand, measure and manage fatigue on-farm.
Project team lead Professor Sally Ferguson said the mining industry had been doing this for years.
“Analysing specific elements of their operators’ work that cause fatigue, to understand the specific consequences based on how their performance is impacted, and then manage that risk,” Prof Ferguson said.
“That’s what we want to learn for the farming sector.”
The project will ultimately deliver a practical guide to assist agricultural enterprises of all sizes to understand, measure and manage fatigue on their farm.
“We want producers to have a clear understanding of how their current working patterns can be tweaked a little bit to manage the risk better,” Prof Ferguson said.
“We’re not saying ‘change your entire schedule’, it’s about asking, ‘What do you need to be thinking about while you’re working to keep yourself safe, happy and productive?’.
“It’s not about downing tools after X number of hours. Fatigue is
inevitably higher at different times of the year or parts of the day for different individuals working in different industries.”
A workshop with Gippsland dairy farmers highlighted long days, limited days off, workforce shortages and seasonal challenges as issues for fatigue management.
“We all know dairy farmers have very early starts, but it is clear that there are many factors which affect the physical and mental fatigue including working on rainy, windy and cold days and the added load of the business management aspects of business,” Associate Professor Amy Cosby said.
“Dairy farmers not only shared their work practices with the researchers, but the fatigue management strategies they have in place for themselves and staff they manage.”
When completed, the Farming and Fatigue management guide will include tools to help farmers identify ‘hot spots’ — where and why fatigue might be an issue in their operation, and how to reduce potential harm of fatigue without impacting production.

✓ Lift very heavy rolls of wire and dispense under FULL TENSION, eliminating the need to check the strain and lift the wire up onto posts.
✓ The whole process keeps moving forward with no doubling back.
✓ The strain is where you need it at the peak of a crest or the bottom of a gully.
✓ The wire just bobs along right next to the post ready to be clipped in, stapled or tied off.
✓ There is much less need for fence line preparation because the wire doesn’t dragon the ground.
✓ Fits on pallet forks
✓ Quick hitches available for any machine
✓ Hydraulic or manual options
✓ No friction damage to wire
✓ Detachable outrigger for left or right hand side operation
✓ Very tough, long lasting rubber coated rollers grip and strain the wire
✓ Full variation of tension is adjusted from the cab (hydraulic model)
✓ Will halve your labour or double your output
