pottery, mixed-media and photography.
For most of the year, at least one room at the gallery focuses on textiles, with work produced by artists more akin to art than traditional sewing.
Kyabram serves as an ideal launching pad for exploring the region’s Silo Art Trail.
The town’s water tank features a mural inspired by the endangered animals residing at the fauna park.
Nearby towns such as Colbinabbin, Rochester, Tongala, Stanhope, and Echuca offer additional
art experiences, including massive silo artworks, street art, community murals and galleries.
Music enthusiasts can revel in the vibrant scene in Girgarre, which features a sound walk park, the annual Moosic Muster, and monthly Jigarre Jammin’ sessions held for 10 months of the year.
Sports fans will find plenty to engage with in Kyabram.
The town hosts a variety of sporting activities, including football, netball, cricket, lawn tennis, lawn bowls and golf.
Visitors are welcome to attend local matches and cheer on the teams.
Throughout the year, Kyabram hosts several free community events that welcome locals and visitors.
The lead-up to Christmas sees the main shopping precinct come alive with the Kyabram Spring Market, Santa’s Cave at the Kyabram Town Hall, and the shop local 12 Days of Christmas event.
Larger events that draw crowds to the town include the Kyabram Taste and Tunes in February, Kyabram Rodeo in March, Kyabram Agricultural Show in October, and the RV Country Music Festival in November.
Surrounding communities also offer familyfriendly events such as the Rushworth Heritage Festival on Easter Saturday and Tongala Eats and Beats in October.
For market enthusiasts, the region offers several options, including the Stanhope community garage sale on the second
Sunday of each month, the Rushworth market on the third Saturday, and the Girgarre produce and craft market on the second Sunday.

This picturesque location provides the perfect backdrop for selfies and allows visitors to immerse themselves in the beauty of the region.
If you are looking for a place to fall in love with, Kyabram is the perfect destination.
PLAZA THEATRE
Screening Movies
Where history meets Hollywood
Step back in time and immerse yourself in living history as you enter the iconic Kyabram Plaza Theatre.
Radiating charm in the heart of Kyabram’s CBD, the beautifully preserved theatre stands as a beacon, illuminating the streetscape with its timeless elegance.
Serving as a cinema, theatre, playhouse, and dance palais, this versatile venue comfortably seats 430 patrons, each enjoying an excellent view of the screen.
In 1928, the Kyabram Free Press announced that Mr Lewis. H. Day would be building the theatre, and billing it the “Showplace of the Valley”.
The theatre had its official opening in 1929, and for nearly four decades, has showcased a range of films.
The theatre would find troubles and it ceased showings and closed in 1968, before a group of passionate film fanatics lobbied together and formed a theatre committee.
The committee successfully persuaded the shire to purchase the building, ensuring this historic gem remained open for history buffs and film enthusiasts to cherish and enjoy.
These passionate volunteers meticulously maintain the theatre, guaranteeing every visitor an authentic journey through time as they enter through the grand tri-double door entrance.
The volunteers continually strive to restore the theatre to its former glory.
Thanks to generous support from the Community Bank Kyabram & District, the theatre’s exterior has undergone exciting upgrades.
These include a modern light box showcasing current and upcoming films, and stylish roof trim lighting that now elegantly illuminates Allan St.
The Plaza Theatre offers regular screenings every Tuesday and Saturday night at 7.30pm, featuring a diverse range of films to suit various tastes and preferences each week.

Fun times at spring market
The Kyabram Spring Market is a day-long community market filled with family fun for all.
Tied in with the Kyabram RV Country Music Festival, the spring market encourages residents and visitors to shop locally in the lead-up to Christmas.
The Kyabram Chamber of Commerce president Deanne Stagg said there was always plenty on offer at the market.
“In 2024, we changed up the kids’ activities with more family fun,” Deanne said.
“Quite a few different and varied outside traders come into town for the day.
“The service organisations set up down the street so people can get information from them, as well.
“There is a community element, there are the local traders and many food choices from different businesses.
“There is everything, for all ages, all walks of life.”
The market offers voucher giveaways from participating businesses for the weekend, which the Kyabram Chamber of Commerce will confirm closer to the date.
A highlight of every year is the Kyabram traders’ sidewalk sales, which in some years continue all day Friday and into Saturday morning.
Deanne is hoping for good weather, which will always add to the event’s success.
“It is a good day with all the people in town it adds to the atmosphere and that is a big part of having the spring market,” she said.
“I don’t think there are many other things like the spring market around, where the street is closed and there is a market, that in itself makes it a draw card.”
The market will be full of general and community-based stallholders selling an eclectic mix of products, such as honey, arts and crafts, plants, homewares, jewellery, and handmade body and bath products.
Buskers bring the sounds of the Kyabram RV Country Music Festival to the street.
A bus runs all day between the Kyabram RV Country Music Festival and the spring market to help bring visitors to the main street. Along with the Kyabram Spring Market, Kyabram Uniting Church holds an exhibition and sale of Cam Tomfon’s photographs yearly, with proceeds going back to the
The exhibition is in the Uniting Church Hall on the corner of Unitt and Union St, Kyabram. Kyabram Spring Market will be held on Friday, November 7, 2025 along Allan St between Albion and Church Sts during the day.
Breen Ave pathway connects Kyabram
Experience a seamless journey from Kyabram’s peaceful outskirts to its lively centre on the Breen Ave dual walking and cycling track.
The Breen Ave dual walking and cycling track seamlessly integrates with the town’s existing path network, offering residents a safe and convenient route for walking and cycling.
Since its completion in 2024, the path has become an integral part of locals’ daily routines, providing a safe route for students heading to school and a delightful space for dog owners to exercise their furry friends.
Stretching 1.78km along Breen Ave, this vital link connects existing paths on Cooma Rd and Allan St, creating a continuous route from Kyabram’s bustling CBD to its scenic outskirts.
This project stems from the Kyabram Walking and Cycling Strategy, a community-driven initiative launched in 2004 to weave the town together through an extensive network of paths. The project kicked off with new pathways on South Boundary Rd and Lake Rd, followed by upgrades to existing tracks, before finally extending eastward to connect with Breen Ave. Following 11 years of eager anticipation, the Breen Ave section of the path network officially opened in September 2024 — ideal timing for locals emerging from their winter hibernation to bask in Kyabram’s picture perfect weather.
Music festival triggers toe-tapping
The Kyabram RV Country Music Festival is held over the first full week of November to attract more people to town in the lead-up to Christmas.
In 2024, the event attracted many people with RVs, campervans and self-contained caravans who set up camp to enjoy a week of highquality country music.
In 2025, the gates of the Kyabram showgrounds will open on Monday, November 3, so everyone can start setting up camp.
Onsite caravan and motorhome facilities will be available.
Each year, Rod and Rhonda Owen run a hugely successful open mic from Wednesday through Friday from 2pm to 6pm for all aspiring artists and musicians.
So you don’t have to pack up and move to see the district, on Wednesday and Thursday, the ever-popular bus tours visit places of interest.
Where the bus trips will visit is a secret that is known only to the organisers until the day, but they are always places of interest around the district.
The bus trips are a highlight for visitors to the Kyabram RV Country Music Festival, and many secure seats as early as possible so they can get
a behind-the-scenes look at our much-loved town and area.
To encourage visitors to attend the Kyabram Spring Market on Friday, a free bus runs all day, every half an hour from the showgrounds to Kyabram’s main street.
In 2025, the main event at the Kyabram RV Country Music Festival will kick off on Saturday, November 8, at 10am.
In 2024 the artists’ line-up was the best of country music, including Lance Birrell, Owen Blundell, Don Costa, Peter Coad and the Coad Sisters, Runaway Dixie, Sandie Dodd, Robyn Gleeson, Gen and Trudy Hintz, Tom Maxwell, Evan Platschinda and Justin Standley.
Backed up by the bands On the Run and Red Bak.
In 2025, the line-up is sure to be just as good, with many country music stalwarts making return trips each year.
On Sunday, a Poet’s breakfast is held from 8am, followed by a country music marathon featuring all the weekend’s artists.
The festival always concludes with the grand finale, with all artists on stage at 6pm to close the weekend.
If you are not camping on-site, you can turn up on Saturday and Sunday and purchase tickets at the gate. Bookings are required for a week’s camping, caravan or RV spot.
The Kyabram RV Country Music Festival will be held at the Kyabram Showgrounds, Allan St, Kyabram on November 5 to 9, 2025.

A blooming joy
The Sunflowers of Timmering stretch as far as you can see, but only for the month of February.
Adam and Claira Whipp are gearing up to welcome visitors to their annual sunflower spectacle at their Timmering farm in Victoria.
The couple cultivates a whopping 12 hectares of sunflowers, planting about 420,000 seeds each year.
“We sow 35,000 seeds to the hectare, over 12 hectares, so 420,000 plants,” Adam said.
“We do it every year just to bring some joy to families and friends and let them come out, take some photos and play in the sunflowers for an hour or so.”
The Whipps throw open their farm gates on February weekends when the sunflowers are in full bloom.
Visitors can pay to frolic among the flowers, snap photos, and even pick a few to take home.
The experience has been a hit, drawing hundreds from across Victoria, including Melbourne, Gippsland and Ballarat.
As part of the Sunflowers of Timmering experience, Claira puts her photography skills to use, offering sunset photoshoots for families, couples, kids, and mates when the sunflowers are at their most stunning.
Adam admits that while sunflowers are a tough crop to grow, the smiles they bring to visitors’ faces make it all worthwhile.
The exact opening dates in February depend on farming conditions and will be announced closer to the time.
For the latest on opening dates and entry fees, check the Sunflowers of Timmering Facebook and Instagram pages.

muscle in Tough trucks
White Motor Company trucks were built tough.
MUST DO
Tenth Australian White Truck Muster gala dinner at the Kyabram Club on Saturday, March 15, 2025 with special guest presentations of White Trucks
The 10th Australian White Truck Muster, Kyabram is the best place to see the largest collection of these tough trucks in 2025.
“A White Truck is a truck brand that is no longer being manufactured,” White Truck Muster organiser Ray Grima said.
“They have got a history that goes back as far as 1897, when they built farm machines.
“In the 1900s, they decided that they wanted to venture into making steam cars.
“Then, from steam cars, they built automobiles and then they ventured off into building trucks right up until the early 1980s.
“The White Motor company also bought out competitors to get ideas, improve their product, and corner the market.
“They look tough, they were built to do the job and could handle it.
“It is a shame they are not around any more because they certainly would have had a good following of supporters.”
Ray said all truck makes and models were welcome to come to the muster, not only White Trucks.
Many of the trucks and their owners have been to the muster before, with trucks returning from as far away as Perth.
As White Trucks is an American brand, the muster is an international event with participants regularly coming to Kyabram from the United States, New Zealand and Germany.
At the muster, there will be a dinner at the Kyabram Club on Saturday night for everyone interested in the machines to catch up over a meal.
Within the muster, there will be an all-scale model muster.
This is for anyone building or owning a model truck to show their mini beast, whether they are plastic, diecast or resin models.
Hopefully, the remote-control model truck club will be at the muster, speeding around the showgrounds.
The White Truck Muster Facebook page has all the information, including how to book for the Saturday night dinner.
The 10th Australian White Truck Muster will be at the Kyabram Showgrounds on March 15 and 16, 2025.

A Day at Kyabram Fauna Park
Kyabram Fauna Park is the newest zoo to join the crew at Zoos Victoria –a conservation organisation dedicated to fighting extinction and connecting people with wildlife.
The Park’s 55 hectares is home to more than 300 native animals including Koalas, Tasmanian Devils, Short-beaked Echidnas, and Alpine Dingoes. It’s just a 30-minute drive from Shepparton and Echuca, one-hour drive from Bendigo, and two-and-a-half hours from Melbourne.
As soon as you enter the gates, you’re immediately transported into a lush, wildlife-rich landscape.
The recently refurbished café with expanded outdoor seating is the perfect place to start your day. Visitors can grab a delicious brew while watching the meerkat mobs’ playful antics.
The Park’s wide, winding pathways guide you through various animal habitats with a sweeping view of the iconic 33-hectare wetlands.
Novice bird watchers and avid twitchers can hide amongst the trees and spot dozens of unique bird species in the newly refurbished bird hide. Thousands of migrating and native bird species are visible from the hide, which offers a 360-degree view of the thriving wetlands ecosystem.
At least 36 species of migratory birds visit Australian wetlands each year, with many travelling more than 20,000km to the northern hemisphere and back. Among them are Great Egrets, Nankeen Night Herons, Brolgas and Royal Spoonbills –all visible at Kyabram Fauna Park.
Add on an Animal Experience
Take your adventure to the next level with one of the unique animal experiences on offer. These include a close-up with everyone’s favourite dozey marsupial – the Koala, a hosted tour of the newly built Reptile Habitat, or an opportunity to meet Australia’s most dangerous bird – the Cassowary.
Each experience is delivered by a dedicated zookeeper, who will share insights into how they care for the Park’s animals.
Book online or at the park reception
Make sure you check out the Park’s newest residents, Waru, and Kong, who have joined Heidi in a recently upgraded koala habitat. There’s also a healthy dose of history to explore within the historic Hazelman family home –a four-room cottage that was transported to the park. The cottage contains an interesting collection of memorabilia, photographs and period furniture. The surrounding Transport Through Time display includes a blacksmith’s shop and a machinery shed with buggies and various machines.
Before you venture home, check out the park’s new Leaf insect habitat. These masters of camouflage are fascinating to watch and visitors can enjoy searching high and low for them.

With five gallery spaces rotating displays every two months, so there’s always something new to see.
The Splinters Contemporary Artists maintain a dedicated space and refresh their exhibitions quarterly.
Textile art is a particular favourite here.
Venturing beyond Kyabram, you will discover Tongala, aptly known as the home of street art.
With over 50 artworks depicting the town’s history, it’s a visual feast for art lovers.
In Girgarre, a unique sound walk awaits. Here, you can create your own music using public instruments crafted from recycled materials — a truly interactive artistic experience.
Stanhope offers a different perspective, with murals focusing on the town’s people.
A standout piece on the Fonterra factory features an impressive 11,000 community photos.
The town centre also houses a poignant mural depicting Australia’s largest maritime disaster, the sinking of the Montevideo Maru.
In Colbinabbin, five privately owned silos painted by Tim Bowtell tell the story of the town’s history.
The artwork captures significant events, from early farmers’ picnics to a massive tractor pull from the 1980s.
Rochester’s GrainCorp silos, another Jimmy Dvate creation, pay homage to local flora and fauna.
The town is also home to over 50 pieces of public art, including a mural park in Moore St and a piece featuring former local and homicide detective Ron Iddles.
With Kyabram as your base, you are perfectly positioned to explore the Campaspe Art Trail and immerse yourself in the region’s artistic treasures.

Saddle up for rodeo
Cowboys and cowgirls gather around for the 79th Kyabram Rodeo as the cowboy nods out of the chute next Labour Day long weekend.
The Kyabram Rodeo is saddling up for another thrilling event, with site bookings and pre-ticket sales now available.
As the rodeo’s popularity continues to surge, organisers are expecting bigger crowds and more riders to take part in the various events.
McPhee Rodeo Company, in partnership with the Kyabram AH and P Society, will host the event at the Kyabram Showgrounds on Friday, March 7, 2025.
Gates will swing open at 5pm, with the main action thundering into life at 7pm.
The Kyabram Rodeo is part of the long weekend tri-series, which includes rodeos in Merrijig on Saturday and Chiltern on Sunday.
This year’s event promises to maintain its traditional flavour while introducing fresh elements to ramp up the excitement.
The rodeos are making a comeback and the animals in action are marvellous.
The animals are not just getting bigger, they’re becoming more formidable, and the cowboys are more daring.
In a departure from previous years, the 2025 Kyabram Rodeo will not feature an after-theaction band, aiming to create a more family-friendly atmosphere and ensure a comfortable experience for all attendees.
Organisers urge interested parties to snap up their tickets and site bookings early to avoid missing out.

12 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS GIVEAWAYS
Starting in mid-December and running up to just before Christmas, the Kyabram Chamber of Commerce hosts a 12 Days of Christmas promotion in conjunction with a sponsoring business.
Designed to kick-start your Christmas shopping, the idea is that you make a purchase at participating Kyabram stores to enter the draw to win giveaways and Kyabram shopping vouchers.
To win, shoppers must make a purchase at a participating store and fill out an entry form.
Participating stores will display a 12 Days of Christmas poster on their windows in the leadup to the event.
ALLEN ST YARN BOMBERS
Kyabram Yarn Bombing is a group of likeminded community members that unite throughout the year to knit, crochet and yarn bomb the town.
Starting in November, the group yarn bombs (or you can call it decorates) the town in the story of Christmas.
Walk through native reserves
Kyabram Urban Landcare Group manages three reserves in Kyabram.
GREY BOX RESERVE
Hidden at the back of Parkland Golf Club, tucked between the golf club and horse paddocks, is the 4.5 hectares of Grey Box Reserve.
Once endemic to the area, the reserve has three predominant woodland types.
Damp Grey Box areas have grassy ground covers such as wallaby grass, broughton pea, and slender gardenia.
The Dry Grey Box Buloke Woodland produces predominantly grey box trees with an understory of gold dust wattle, waterbush and spreading eutaxia.
The third type of woodland has white Cypress pine and yellow box on sandy rises with Buloke trees and an understory of sweet bursaria and gold dust wattle.
Most of these plants can be found within the Grey Box Reserve, with the remnant portion having not been farmed due to poor soil and low-lying periodic floods.
The resilient grey box tree, nardoo grass, purple swainsona pea, and yellow goodenia all tolerate getting “wet feet”.
Flooding events also trigger breeding cycles for fish and frogs, attracting water birds such as ducks and egrets.
The Kyabram Urban Landcare Group has established a level gravel walking track around the reserve.
You may hear three types of frogs following the walking track clockwise: the ‘pobblebonk’, the spotted marsh frog’s ‘kuk-kuk-kuk’ or the Perron’s tree frog’s ‘jack-hammering’.
You will come across a wide range of Indigenous plants, many recently planted, including 10 types of wattle.
Several older trees, many of which are thought to exceed 200 years old, provide nesting sites for the numerous parrots in the area.
As you turn back south, you will see a small dam on your left with a seat inviting you to sit
and listen to the calls of pardalotes, kingfishers and rosellas.
RACECOURSE RESERVE
The Racecourse Reserve is adjacent to the Kyabram Trotting Track and opposite the Kyabram Scout Hall in Racecourse Rd.
A gravel walking track winds through oldgrowth trees interplanted with young seedlings, providing undergrowth coverage for small birds and wildlife.
ERN MILES RESERVE
The Ern Miles Reserve is rehabilitated farmland at 148 S Boundary Rd, Kyabram.
The whole paddock has been planted with native vegetation for 20 years, and now many birds consider this reserve home.

As Kyabram’s most anticipated annual bash, this spectacular street party has drawn crowds of over 10,000 revellers across the years.
The event hosts an array of vendors and stalls from businesses within a 20km radius of Kyabram, including neighbouring towns, offering a diverse showcase of enterprises.

trail to travel Artists ’ studio
Campaspe Artists Studio Trail will become an annual weekend of open studios throughout the Campaspe Shire.
When Campaspe Artists Studio Trail organiser Dey Alexander moved to Kyabram 10 years ago, she found a really creative community that was not obvious to everyone.
“The idea behind the studio trail was to bring out the hidden creativity in our community into the open,” Dey said.
“The idea of a studio trail is not a new one.
“There are studio trails all over the place, but they tend to happen in areas where there are publicly known artistic communities.
“It is a bit more hidden in our area.
“I just wanted to do something that made that more visible to people, as well as giving our local artists an event that gives them a chance to develop a bigger market for their work, the opportunity to sell their work and develop relationships with potential collectors.”
Dey expects 25 artists or more to open studios in every part of the Campaspe Shire area.
Three community art spaces are opening up as part of the Campaspe Artists Studio Trail for artists who practice their art at the kitchen table and don’t have a publicly accessible space.
The Kyabram Town Hall Gallery, the Rushworth Art Depot and the Foundry Arts Space in Echuca are all part of the trail.
“The studio trail is a unique way of engaging with art because, unlike a gallery, people come along who wouldn’t consider themselves interested in art or might be intimidated by the whole exhibition gallery experience,” Dey said.
intimidating, more intimate space and rather than just looking at art, the artists will also be there.
MUST DO
Find out what inspires Campaspe’s artists by exploring their studios.
“We are trying to make this a friendly event so people can actually meet the artists.
“The idea is to meet the artists in a less
“We are hoping that most of the artists will do some demos so that people can see how they make their art and ask questions.
“And maybe inspire more people to take up creative activities.”
Campaspe Artists Studio Trail will be held on February 22 and 23, 2025

Bocce club turns 50
The Kyabram Italian Social Bocce Club celebrated its 50th year in 2024.
Kyabram Italian Social Bocce Club treasurer Joe Greco has been involved with the club from the start.
“It was founded in 1974 by the early immigrants to the area,” Joe said.
“Many of whom had migrated to Australia in search of a better life.
“They worked hard, and for their own entertainment, they started playing Bocce, an Italian sport, in their backyards.
“And as more and more migrants arrived, the backyard games got too big and government regulations prohibited them from doing many things, so they formed a club, so everyone could socialise and play their sport.
“So, this year was the 50th year of the Kyabram Bocce Club.”
Joe immigrated to the Kyabram area as a two-yearold in 1952, after his father settled there on a market garden, later becoming a tomato and beef farmer and orchardist.
because of the rules and regulations,” he said.
“Most of the Italians that migrated here didn’t understand what was going on and needed somebody that could speak English.
“So that is where I came into the picture.
“They came and saw me, and I didn’t want to be involved because I was a young bloke with other interests.
“But it finished up, my wife said to me, ‘Well, you are doing it for your parents. They won’t be able to do it if you don’t do it.’
“So, I went ahead, and I’ve been there ever since.”

The Kyabram Italian Social Bocce Club is renowned for its authentic pasta nights held three times a year for special occasions.

Just down the road: Girgarre
Girgarre is a must-do stop for community music lovers, putting artistic practice at the centre of the community’s life.
Flourishing with the annual Moosic Muster, Jigarre Jammin’, the monthly produce and craft market, the Gargarro Botanic Gardens, and many more community events.
Over 20 years ago, the Girgarre Development Group Inc. started a produce and craft market on the second Sunday of each month, growing it from six stalls to upwards of 150 stalls.
Girgarre Development Group Inc. secretary Jan Smith wanted music at the market from the start, which grew into the Moosic Muster and Jigarre Jammin’.
“It was just one little idea that a person I had known over the years had,” Jan said.
“I got him to get some music for the first market and that is how the Moosic Muster grew.
“I asked them all back 12 months later to see what they helped to create as the market had blossomed.
“Then that night, they said, ‘We ought to have a music festival here’.”
So began Moosic Muster.
The Saturday of the muster is taken over by workshops, from ukulele to jazz experiences and Australasian music to clogging in the hall.
“They have open mics, where you can facilitate hopping up and playing with a few of your mates,” Jan said.
“They have a beaut thing called the ‘Hat Band’, where you put your name in a hat, your name is pulled out randomly.
“Half a dozen of you learn to play a song together, then perform it in front of everybody.
“It is tremendous because there are always good musos with some learners and it pulls everyone along.
“Everyone gets the joy of performing; it is amazing.”
You don’t need to know how to play or own an instrument to come along and be part of Moosic Muster.
You can always lend an instrument, and someone will teach you how to play it.
During Moosic Muster, free concerts are held at the sound shell in the Gargarro Botanic Gardens on Friday and Saturday nights.
The Girgarre Moosic Muster is held in January each year.
JIGARRE JAMMIN’
Jigarre Jammin’ started when people wanted more community music, not just once a year at Moosic Muster.
From February to November, Jigarre Jammin’ is held on the fourth Saturday of the month in the Girgarre Memorial Hall.
This community-minded gathering encourages people who want to play together, regardless of their skills or experience level.
Along with the monthly jam, Jigarre Jammin’ holds two three-day camps in Girgarre each year in April and September.
GARGARRO BOTANIC GARDEN
Opened in May 2023, Gargarro Botanic Garden is a unique and world-class botanical installation that exhibits best practices in garden design, sustainability and Indigenous plantings.
The garden’s design reflects the region’s dry landscape, celebrating native flora and precious water resources, overlaid with a celebration of Australia’s indigenous history.
Gargarro Café, fully licensed, is open for breakfast and lunch from Wednesday to Sunday and serves dinner on Friday and Saturday nights.
A unique feature of the Gargarro Botanic Garden is the Sound Shell, a world-class amphitheatre for outdoor musical and theatrical performances.
In November, Showdown at the Sound Shell, a youth music competition for those aged between 12 and 18, is held there.
Friends of Gargarro Botanic Gardens hold a fundraising Girgarre Open Gardens Festival in late October, opening the gates of local gardens for you to explore and gather gardening ideas.

Just down the road: Rushworth
Retaining much of its history and original buildings from the early 1850s, Rushworth is the ideal place to learn about the Gold Rush era.
Wander the wide high street, reading the ‘Walk through time’ plaques on many of the buildings, to learn about what once was.
Stop for a coffee or lunch at one of the many eateries, visit the Rushworth Museum or take a wander through the ironbark forests on the edge of town.
EASTER HERITAGE FESTIVAL
One of the most impressive main streets in rural Victoria, Rushworth has retained its original charm, making it the ideal place to host a heritage festival.
Rushworth Easter Heritage Festival hosts over 75 market stalls on the main street historic median strip.
Take part in the event by making an Easter bonnet or dress up your dog to show off their cuteness at the dog show.
The street parade of vintage and historical
vehicles includes steam, petrol, people and horse-powered machines from all eras.
Throughout the day, many parade participants will demonstrate heritage skills and how life once was.
The Rushworth Easter Heritage Festival is held over the Easter weekend each year.

COMMUNITY MARKET
Head down to the historic high street to enjoy a market featuring plants, fresh produce, crafts, giftware, food and wine each month.

WHROO FOREST AND BALACLAVA MINES
Whroo is a former gold mining town in the heart of the hilly Rushworth State Forest.
Laying 7 km south of Rushworth, this once thriving and vibrant mining town grew up around Balaclava Hill after gold was discovered there.
Now a deserted ghost town, with all the buildings having been removed, you can still explore the open-cut shaft of the Balaclava mines.
Wander through the surrounding forest of red ironbark, grey box and yellow gum, which come alive in the spring and autumn after the rains with a dazzling display of wildflowers.

STANHOPE MEN’S SHED
The Stanhope Men’s Shed is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings, at 3 Tivey Grove, Stanhope, with activities including woodwork, welding, furniture making, and up-cycling pallets and timbers from local dairy factories.
COMMUNITY GARAGE SALE MARKET AND CAR BOOT SALE
Snag a bargain or say goodbye to some wellloved household items at the community garage sale held on the second Sunday of the month.
“We are adding to the variety of stalls with a car boot sale where people can sell from their car boot and minimise handling of the goods and books involved,” Stanhope & District Development Committee member Christine Dicketts said.
“We started it years ago to promote Stanhope, and I think we have, getting quite a crowd coming through each month,” Christine said.
Excess funds generated from the market go to the emergency fund set up to support members of the community who have undergone trauma and need help.
The emergency fund has been running for as long as the market and it has helped quite a few families in that time.
There is live music each month at the market, a barbecue, and the local café is open for takeaway, roast meals and coffee.
A town favourite, the op shop, and the supermarket are also open on the day.
Shaque-A-Taque on the main street features unique handcrafted woodwork and Australian décor, featuring some good old Aussie humour and locally hand-made gifts and novelties.
MONTEVIDEO MARU MURAL
A stunning mural painted by Tim Bowtell in 2022 is in the centre of town, adjacent to McEwen Place and the war memorial.
It is a tribute to honour those who made the brave and patriotic decision in 1940 to voluntarily enlist, serving in the 2/22 Battalion of the Australian Army, known as Lark Force.
On July 1, 1942, 853 Australian POWs and 200 civilian POWs were lost when the Japanese merchant ship was torpedoed and sunk by the American submarine, the USS Sturgeon.
All perished, including three servicemen who enlisted from Stanhope.
This tragedy remains the largest maritime disaster in Australian history.
A project of the Stanhope RSL Sub Branch (founded in 1918) in collaboration with the Stanhope and District Development Committee.
