Volunteering close to heart

I AM DELIGHTED TO SUPPORT THE FIRST ISSUE OF OUR COMMUNITY, OUR VOLUNTEERS

I am filled with so much pride and a deep sense of connection to our shared mission of promoting and supporting volunteering, something that has always been close to my heart.

Over the years, I have had the privilege of witnessing many selfless individuals who dedicate their time and energy to volunteer work.

It’s truly inspiring to see how many people in our communities are ready to step up, show up and lend a hand when needed.

Volunteers are very important to our communities.

They are the unsung heroes who keep numerous organisations and groups afloat.

Living in regional Victoria has given me a unique perspective on the power of community.

We are part of a community that cares very deeply for each other and has supported each other during the most challenging times.

Whenever I have called upon the community for volunteers or support, the response has been overwhelming.

Contents

The beauty of volunteering is its accessibility — there are many ways to get involved, and even the smallest contributions can make a significant impact.

There are many organisations calling out for volunteers.

I have been volunteering for over 25 years, and it brings me an immense sense of joy and fulfilment.

It’s a space where I am surrounded by selfless, giving people, all united by a common goal of making a positive difference.

It truly is my happy place.

I extend my thanks to every volunteer out there. Your dedication, compassion, and commitment make our communities better places to live.

A taste of generosity

IN SEARCH OF A BETTER LIFE, MACEDONIAN-BORN AZEM ELMAZ, 63, FONDLY REMEMBERS THE DAY HIS 23-YEAR-OLD SELF STEPPED OFF A PLANE IN MELBOURNE WITH JUST A FEW DOLLARS TO HIS NAME.

The exact elements of the ‘better life’ he yearned for at the time remained unclear. However, he discovered precisely what he was searching for in a remarkably short period.

“I came to Australia with nothing, and the country gave me a fresh start and a future,” Azem said.

“I found what I was looking for – happiness.”

Moments of joy and fulfilment swiftly unfolded for Azem. Within a few months of his arrival in Melbourne, he met the love of his life, Jehien, and they soon married.

For five years, they immersed themselves in the hustle and bustle of city life before feeling a magnetic pull toward the tranquillity of the countryside, prompting them to move to Shepparton.

“There is something special about country people,” Azem said.

“It’s also a great place and community to raise a family.

“We have never looked back.”

Never looking back, never looking over your shoulder, and always looking up are affirmations Azem stands by.

He is passionately driven by his faith, the upbringing from his parents and has a unique kindness that always reaches out to help others.

In 1989, despite having no business experience, Azem, armed with culinary knowledge passed down from his mother over time, took a leap of faith.

And together with his wife, they opened Lutfiye’s Shish Kebab in Shepparton and were welcomed with open arms.

Their traditional Albanian cuisine quickly gained popularity within Shepparton’s multicultural community.

While many patrons came in to taste their menu, one individual engaged in a quiet conversation over the counter that forever altered the trajectory of Azem’s life.

The individual was a man who quietly inquired about the cost of a meal. Azem swiftly realised that this man could not afford to pay, prompting him to offer it for free in an act of kindness.

“It was hard for him to ask for help, and I could see that,” Azem said.

“After this, I really started to notice how many people were struggling in our community, and it went from one meal to 10 quickly.

“The more people found out I was helping, the more people who needed help came in.

“Many people do it tough for many different reasons, and I felt the need to help and give. We’re all born with the ability to reach out and help each other, so without question, I did.”

Azem continued to support the community by offering free meals through his restaurant for many years.

Additionally, he extended his generosity to provide blankets and essential items to people experiencing homelessness, earning a reputation for his selfless services. Some of these services remain in place today.

However, after an Easter service at church, while sharing a lamington with Monsignor Jeffrey, a master plan was conceived, and the ‘People Supporting People’ non-profit organisation came to life.

“Monsignor Jeffrey told me about his dream to create a soup kitchen that could help people in need in our community,” Azem said.

“We approached the council and got the okay pretty quickly, and the soup kitchen ran at the lake and in other towns for nearly 20 years and helped many people.

“Unfortunately, the soup kitchen stopped during the COVID-19 pandemic for a few different reasons. However, the onset of COVID and lockdowns ignited a further demand for assistance.”

“I came to Australia with nothing, and the country gave me a fresh start and a future.
I found what I was looking for – happiness.”

People Supporting People relies on the generous support and dedication from other kind volunteers and businesses within the region.

During the COVID-19 lockdowns in Shepparton, the volunteer-run organisation cooked an impressive 13,750 meals within two weeks, all of which were delivered to the doorsteps of people in need.

Azem expressed his amazement at the community’s response, highlighting State Member for Shepparton Kim O’Keeffe’s initiative in launching a clever campaign that allowed people to buy meals for others.

The efforts resulted in the cooking and delivery of 550 to 700 meals daily.

“The sense of community was incredible as people joined forces to lend a helping hand,” Azem said.

“Kim was a real goer and nothing got in her way. I think she was even on crutches at the time.

‘What a wonderful community we have. I am so proud to be an Aussie; bloody Aussies are great people.”

Today, the organisation continues its active role in supporting the community by setting up a food truck every Saturday morning in front of Kmart.

Fresh meals, burgers, sausages, and cakes are sold at affordable prices, with every cent earned being reinvested into the community.

“Volunteering is my life, for all my life, and someone will have to push me around in a wheelchair one day, but I’ll keep going.”

Azem, the father-of-four and grandfather to seven grandchildren, also continues to play an equally active role and works beside and with around 320 volunteers.

When questioned about the future of his continued commitment to volunteering as the founder for the People Supporting People organisation, his response was heartfelt.

“As long as I am walking, there will be no retiring,” he said.

“Volunteering is my life, for all my life, and someone will have to push me around in a wheelchair one day, but I’ll keep going.

“I am blessed in this country. Today is a beautiful day, and the next will be even better. It feels really good to give back, and to see the way some people have grown is a priceless feeling.

“I’m just going to keep helping and never look back over my shoulder. If the community is benefiting, then I am happy too.

“God bless Australia.”

Fostering unconditional love

DEFINED BY LOVE AND NOT BLOOD, THE RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN FOSTER CARERS AND THE CHILDREN IN THEIR CARE ARE MARKED BY AN UNDENIABLE BOND.

While foster care is temporary, a foster carer’s love and support has the potential to make a significant difference in a child’s life.

For Berry Street foster carer Kyra Seach, 23, providing this love has been a privilege.

“A child can never have too many people to love them,” she said.

Kyra’s inspirational journey into fostering began at the age of nine, sparked by a close family friend who was a carer.

Reflecting on the influence, Kyra said the friend was kind and giving.

“I remember thinking that I wanted to be exactly like her,” Kyra said.

“And as soon as I was of age to apply, it was the first thing I did. It was all I wanted for my 21st birthday, and I haven’t looked back.”

During the first few months of Kyra’s foster care journey, she cared for children of all ages as a regular short-term and weekend respite carer.

However, her life took a transformative turn when she received a call that changed everything.

“There was a seven-week-old baby in a Melbourne hospital that needed a foster carer,” she said.

“He had significant injuries, and it was unknown if he would ever walk or talk. He is 18 months old and thriving today, and I have him full-time.

“He runs, he plays, loves talking, and doesn’t stop,”

Kyra shared with a smile.

Kyra spoke of the undeniable connection the two have formed over time and how supportive Berry Street has been throughout their journey.

Now known as “Mumma Ky” by the child she is caring for, Kyra also touched on how she approaches her unique and individual journey with him.

“Every situation is unique, and I know my little boy is still young, but I believe in talking openly with him about how he has another mum who loves him very much, too,” she said.

“You’re allowed to have more than one mum — lots of kids do.

“It also helps prepare him for future questions when he is older. That way, he never has to ask, and it also becomes a part of his life — open communication.”

Kyra hopes that the child in her care will be

reunited with his biological parents when it is the right time to do so.

While she acknowledges she will miss caring for him, the satisfaction of knowing she had positively impacted his life will be a fulfilling reward.

“I might not plan too much ahead, but we love living in the moment together,” Kyra said.

“If someone is considering getting involved in foster care, then I recommend contacting Berry Street. They are incredibly supportive throughout the process and continued journey.

“All the positives outweigh the negatives, and it’s so rewarding. I am 23, single and work three days a week. If I can do it, anyone can.

Supporting generations

MANY PARENTS, CARERS AND CHILDREN IN GREATER SHEPPARTON HAVE COME THROUGH FAMILY HAVEN’S DOORS.

Families come to the organisation to connect with other parents, let their kids play, relax and share a meal.

But their work wouldn’t be possible without their dedicated roster of volunteers.

Two of those are Bernadette Brooks and Don Gardner, a husband and wife who have volunteered at the organisation since late 2021.

Once a week, they both head down to the centre and spend a few hours playing with the children, who love spending time with them as much as Don and Bernadette do.

After they both retired, they wanted to find something within the community they could give back to.

“I thought it would be something that we both could do together,” Bernadette said.

If you have ever met Don and Bernadette, you can immediately tell how much love and care they have for the children and the families that walk through Family Haven’s doors.

“(I love) all the people that you meet, the families, all the different children,” Don said.

“The feeling among all the Family Haven volunteers is that we get as much, if not more, out of it than what we give to others,” Bernadette said.

“I think it fulfils a part of my life, and this is a great place to go to.”

Family Haven is just one of the many volunteering opportunities that the Greater Shepparton Lighthouse Project offers.

Lighthouse offers a range of volunteering opportunities, from connecting with young families at the Family Haven in Mooroopna to teaching new skills at their hands-on learning program Pit Stop or providing mentorship to young people at their youth space OLLY.

“We welcome community members who want to help deliver better outcomes for our young people and encourage them to join our volunteering program, the Lighthouse Crew,” Lighthouse executive officer Amy Robinson said.

“We sincerely thank each and every one of our volunteers at Lighthouse for being part of our critical Lighthouse Crew and for supporting our movement for collective action, improving the lives of children and families in Greater Shepparton.”

Where and how to volunteer

WANT TO GET INVOLVED WITH VOLUNTEERING BUT DON’T KNOW WHERE TO START?

The Greater Shepparton Volunteer Managers Network is your first point of call to discover everything you need to know about volunteering in Greater Shepparton.

The network exists to advocate for volunteering, sharing information, and making connections so that the whole of Greater Shepparton is working in the same direction.

City of Greater Greater Shepparton Council community development officer Emma Hofmeyer said the network offered a valuable resource for not only those interested in volunteering but also organisations and groups.

“The Greater Shepparton Volunteers Managers Network is a group of 35 organisations across Greater Shepparton who all have volunteers,” she said.

GV Health volunteer manager Karen Saccuzzo valued the connections, linkages and brainstorming as a benefit of being a part of the Greater Shepparton Volunteer Managers Network. “The brainstorming, connection and idea collaboration the network brings are invaluable,” Karen said.

As part of this network, they have developed their Quick Reference Guide to Volunteering, which includes information on the volunteering groups that are a part of the network, as well as contact details and different ways you can get involved.

“All these organisations are looking for volunteers,” Emma said.

“You can see what each group or organisation is about, and you can contact them directly to volunteer.”

For volunteers, the reference guide is your first point of call. Everything you need to know is included in the guide.

“We’re developing a Volunteer Action Plan, which is going to be a document that captures the future direction of volunteering in Greater Shepparton.”
– Emma Hofmeyer

Within the Quick Reference Guide, there are plenty of options suited to everyone to get out into the Shepparton community and volunteer. Also in the works is the Volunteer Action Plan, a collaborative initiative between the Volunteers Managers Network and council.

Over the past few months, they have been consulting the public on improving volunteering in Greater Shepparton.

“We’re developing a Volunteer Action Plan, which is going to be a document that captures the future direction of volunteering in Greater Shepparton,” Emma said.

Emma also stressed just how rewarding it is to volunteer in the community.

“Volunteering is so rewarding,” she said.

“Many of the volunteer managers volunteer as well, and it’s just the connections you make with the community, that sense of belonging that you get, skills that you learn that you can utilise in your working life, like I can’t sell it enough.

“These people in the network, the managers and volunteer coordinators, they understand that, and they’re working hard to support their volunteers and give them a great experience.”

You can find the Quick Reference Guide to Volunteering on council’s website, as well as information about the 15th annual Greater Shepparton Volunteer Recognition Awards.

Helping out a good move

MUSEUM OF VEHICLE EVOLUTION IS ONE OF THE MANY ICONIC PLACES IN SHEPPARTON.

From its extensive range of cars, motorbikes and trucks to the Furphy Museum and the Loel Thompson Costume Collection, the museum offers an insight into some rich history.

But it wouldn’t be the place it is without their volunteers.

Pam Watt has been volunteering for the Loel Thompson collection since 2021, just six months after the exhibit opened at MOVE.

The exhibit has a rich history, with every piece coming from Loel Thompson’s personal collection. With over 10,000 pieces in the collection, the dedicated team of volunteers, including Pam, help take care of the exhibit and curate the displays.

“When I retired from teaching, I decided that I needed something to do as a focus for the week, something to do for the community,” Pam said.

“I just love going there every week; I love going in and turning the lights on and just seeing the whole

display every week.”

Pam volunteers at the exhibit once a week, where she undertakes a variety of tasks, from computer work to cataloguing and curating displays.

To her, one of her favourite parts about the collection is the amount of history.

“I love being around the history ... being around the public and sharing Loel’s story, having access to the older items and enjoying the historical part of it,” Pam said.

“To be able to tell Loel’s story and her commitment to the history part of collecting, that’s what it’s all about. To be able to pay tribute to her and what she’s done over the last 40-odd years is a privilege.”

Pam is a truly dedicated volunteer with unmatched passion and knowledge for the collection.

“As a whole, it’s great fun to do. It’s very satisfying. Personally, it gives me a focus to the week,” Pam said.

“You’re working with like-minded people, and you’re serving the community as well.

“If anybody is looking to get involved, just give it a go because there’s always somebody willing to show you the ropes and show you how things operate.

“Just try it because it’s a very satisfying thing to do for the community and a very satisfying thing to do for yourself.”

Building tomorrow together

It encapsulates the shared bonds, common values, and collective aspirations that unite individuals, creating a tapestry of interwoven lives.

Volunteering presents many incredible opportunities, from acquiring valuable experience to forging meaningful connections.

A green thumb and a golden heart

AT THE HEART OF GV HEALTH’S VOLUNTEER PROGRAM IS PABLO GONZALES — THE DEDICATED GARDENER, A TRUE FRIEND, AND A COMPASSIONATE HEALER.

With a passion for the earth and a strong sense of community spirit, the Colombian native demonstrates what it means to be a volunteer.

“I started volunteering 20 years ago in Western Australia when I entered a new life.

“After this, I never asked for money, I never looked for money — I only worked with my heart,” he said.

The ‘new chapter’ Pablo referred to marked his triumph over thyroid cancer and his journey toward healing from the profound grief following the tragic loss of his 22-year-old son.

“After I lost my son came the cancer, and then I almost lost my family,

“And that’s when I thought, ‘I need to start again.’

“I was always looking for happiness and when I began volunteering — I found that happiness,” he said.

Pablo spends most of his time volunteering at GV Health’s Gruztner House and has made a name for himself as “the man who has transformed the garden to greatness’’.

His green thumb and nurturing spirit have not only brightened the exterior of Grutzner House, but also livened up the atmosphere within the walls of the facility.

“Pablo has done fantastic work with the gardens at GV Health’s Grutzner House,” GV Health volunteer coordinator Karen Saccuzzo said.

“He came to us with an interest in gardening, but we saw how great he was with the residents.

“I was always looking for happiness and when I began volunteering — I found that happiness.”
– PABLO GONZALES

“And now he has made it an activity for them to come out and assist him with the gardening, or he will simply sit and talk to them inside, and it brightens their day.”

Not only does Pablo volunteer at GV Health as a

way to improve his English speaking skills, but he also said he liked to volunteer as an opportunity to connect with the land, and its people.

“When you are in touch with the soil directly, you are in connection with the motherland.

“When I touch a tree, I am in connection with the universe — and when I speak to the residents [at Grutzner House] I am connected to their spirit,” he said.

Pablo’s story illustrates the power of volunteering, turning personal challenges into a source of happiness — creating a legacy of compassion at GV Health.

Their volunteers are instrumental in supporting their services and contribute immensely to the agency, staff, and clients. Specialising in family, carer and disability support services, FamilyCare volunteer coordinator Andrea Tuohey said volunteers could be involved as much or as little as they like.

“We ensure every role is well matched to the individual and you would be surprised at the number of varied roles we have for our volunteers,” she said.

“Many new roles are also being created based on the new applicant’s skills and how they can assist our agency and clients. Some volunteers are directly involved with clients in the community, some work closely with our staff and agency.

“To ensure our volunteers can still have time away from their role for family, holidays and appointments, we have a large team of volunteers

that allows flexibility.”

To ensure the role is also fulfilling for volunteers, the agency works closely with the volunteers’ strengths and their available time.

Survey results showed that 100 per cent of their volunteers felt acknowledged, appreciated, and looked after, with most of them feeling like they are making a difference in the community. Other results showed that their volunteers enjoy being a part of a team and meeting new people.

Right now, some exciting volunteer roles include after-school programs for children with disabilities, attending to clients’ lawns and gardens, helping put together trampolines, swing sets and flat packs and picking up and delivering Foodshare items to clients.

FamilyCare also has opportunities for volunteers to be involved with its fundraising committee.

Have you got a driver’s licence and would be interested in client transport, helping clients get where they need? Would you like to assist clients with cooking or grocery shopping in their homes?

Perhaps you love books and would enjoy FamilyCare’s ‘Book Inn’, where volunteers run a second-hand bookstore.

“No matter your interests or the amount of time you’re available know your contributions as a volunteer matter to FamilyCare and the broader community. At FamilyCare, there is a volunteering option for everyone,” Andrea said.

Elder Rights Advocacy has been funded through the Department of Health and Aged Care to run a program to match those in need of companionship with volunteers of similar interests, hobbies and backgrounds.

The Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme is a free program available to individuals in aged care homes, on Home Care Package waiting lists, or receiving Home Care Package services.

For Shepparton volunteer Belinda Balcombe, the ACVVS has provided an opportunity to learn more about the area and connect with Ken Knight, who now feels like a part of the family.

“I just think it’s lovely giving back to the community. You will get enjoyment out of meeting new people,” Belinda said.

“If you connect with your person, it’s no different to connecting with a friend. We would never have

crossed paths otherwise.”

For Ken, getting involved in the program meant building his social network and making sure he had someone to share a cuppa with.

“In my day-to-day life, this program has meant knowing someone is coming to visit, you’ve got something to look forward to,” Ken said.

Volunteers and participants meet with their companion on a weekly or fortnightly basis to enjoy a chat, a stroll, watch television together or share a particular hobby.

When asked about the kind of person this volunteering role would suit, Belinda suggests a prospective volunteer should be a ‘people person,’ someone interested in sharing stories as she and Ken can talk for hours.

“The program would suit someone who would like

to spend their spare time with and learn something from older people such as knitting, crochet or knowledge of life,” Belinda said.

Elder Rights Advocacy is looking to add to its list of celebrated volunteers.

VOLUNTEERING CAN BE VERY REWARDING, AND NEVER MORE SO WHEN YOU ARE ABLE TO SUPPORT LIBRARY MEMBERS IN CONTINUING THEIR READING OBSESSION.

Reading contributes to a person’s health and wellbeing, helping to keep us mentally active and offering a way of relaxing.

For those who are no longer able to visit a library in person, Goulburn Valley Libraries offers a home library service.

Our valued volunteers deliver books and other library items to people in their homes, whether it is a private residence or an aged care facility. This monthly service is available to any member who can’t visit the library, whether it is a short-term issue such as an illness or longterm.

Our volunteers provide an important social connection for many of our home library service members and form long-standing friendships.

Currently offered at Mooroopna and Shepparton libraries, we are keen to expand our home library service.

If you or a family member would like to receive the home library service, please contact your local library.

Friends of the Library groups provide much-appreciated support

both in person and financially.

Friends groups operate at Euroa, Shepparton, Mooroopna, Yarrawonga and Numurkah libraries. Meeting regularly, they provide in-kind and financial support for programming such as children’s storytimes and activities, author visits and purchase of materials and equipment such as the hublets available at Euroa Library.

Fundraising activities include book sales and lucky prize draws. Other activities include maintaining the art space at Euroa Library and assisting with activities and events. New members of the friends groups are always welcome.

VOLUNTEER AT GV HEALTH

Volunteers provide valuable assistance in the daily operations of GV Health services and extended community health programs across three campuses – Shepparton, Tatura and Rushworth.

Volunteers provide vital support to patients, residents, families, and staff.

There are many different roles you can undertake as a volunteer within GV Health, including greeting visitors, helping people find their way around the facilities, making cups of tea, spending time with patients in need, going on outings, arts and crafts, gardening and so much more.

ELAINE AND BRENDA HAVE FOUND FRIENDSHIP AND PURPOSE THROUGH GV HEALTH’S VOLUNTEER SERVICE.

Upon retirement, Elaine and Brenda chose to dedicate their time to giving back to the community.

Meeting at GV Health’s volunteer program, their shared commitment to service quickly blossomed into a deep friendship.

Parkrun’s friendliest face

EVERY SATURDAY MORNING, RAIN, HAIL OR SHINE, PARKRUN TAKES OVER SHEPPARTON’S VICTORIA PARK LAKE.

And without fail, every weekend, you’re guaranteed to find at least one familiar face cheering you on. Georgie Waser is the friendly face you see on the sidelines, cheering you on as you race around the lake.

As soon as she was eligible, the 20-year-old from Bunbartha headed down to the lake every weekend to spend her Saturday mornings volunteering for Parkrun. Over her time as a volunteer, she has attended over 150 parkruns, though she isn’t sure of her total amount to this day.

“It’s hard to pinpoint when I started volunteering officially because I unofficially volunteered for a while before Chelsea, who directs Parkrun itself, suggested that I sign up,” she said.

There, she’s everybody’s personal cheerleader, cheering on the crowds as they race towards the finish line.

“I’m part of the unofficial cheer squad, as we call

ourselves,” Georgie said.

“There’s I, who will stand on the sidelines, and I will cheer, and you’ll hear me from where the barbecue area is to the other side of the lake.

“I love watching people get amped up, and they seem to enjoy being yelled at, so I just continue doing it.”

Her actual role, though, is barcode scanning, which involves scanning people’s personal barcodes once the race has finished along with their place token, which then gets linked together so runners can see their results, averages and totals.

To Georgie, the best part about Parkrun is the community she’s found within the runs.

“I get told off when I don’t show up,” she laughed.

“Her favourite moment of her time at Parkrun was celebrating her 18th birthday by volunteering.

“I loved having my 18th birthday when we had an event on, so they all sang me happy birthday, and then we went out to breakfast afterwards. It was amazing having almost 200 people sing happy birthday to me and thank me for volunteering,” Georgie said.

As Shepparton Parkrun enters its 10th year and nationally Parkrun hits one million participants, now’s the perfect time to get involved.

HOW CAN I VOLUNTEER?

State championships fire up

CFA IS ENCOURAGING BRIGADES ACROSS THE STATE TO COMPETE IN THIS YEAR’S CFA/VFBV STATE FIREFIGHTER CHAMPIONSHIPS IN MOOROOPNA IN MARCH.

“It’s a great event because you make friends, you get fit and most importantly, you have a good laugh.”

Mooroopna Recreation Reserve will again be the site of the events; with the Urban Junior State Championships kicking off on March 16 and 17.

The Senior Urban and Senior Rural events will be held at the same site the following weekend on March 23 and 24.

CFA chief officer Jason Heffernan said the state championships had a rich tradition and were an integral part of CFA.

“The championships are a great opportunity for our members to engage in some friendly competition with their brigade and fellow firefighters,” Jason said.

“It’s also a great way for the community to see what we do and hopefully we can inspire them to join their local brigades.

“I highly recommend brigades get involved in the event which includes practical firefighting activities utilising hoses, hydrants and other equipment. It’s also fantastic for teamwork and comradeship.”

Hannah Logie from Strathmerton Fire Brigade,

who has competed in the state championships for the past eight years, encourages other brigades to take part because she said it was the best two weekends of the year.

“I have been competing since I was 11 years old and my whole family has been involved over the years too,” Hannah said.

“It’s a great event because you make friends, you get fit and most importantly, you have a good laugh.

“What I love most is the people I’m around all day, it’s a really close-knit group. If you’re considering joining, just do it, it’s the best fun.”

Interested brigades need to register by February 18 this year.

State Championships 2024 nominations are online via vfbv.com.au, entries are open now.

Supporting your right to quality care

As a not-for-profit cultural institution, SAM relies on support from volunteers to ensure this beloved space keeps running.

SAM front of house support Elizabeth Bruns said that not only was volunteering at SAM a social and fun activity, but it also provided a great opportunity to keep learning.

“Our volunteers at SAM are a very important and significant asset,” she said.

“The contribution of their time and knowledge is invaluable, and we are forever grateful.

“For me, the most rewarding part of assisting with volunteer management is the wonderful feedback I get from visitors to the museum who tell me how memorable and special a volunteer made their visit.

“I pass this feedback onto the volunteers and get great delight in seeing in their reactions how proud they are.
