2014 Employee Fest Employee Fest 2014 was a roaring success, with more than 3,200 employees coming out to Freedom Park today for great food, fellowship, games and music, and most importantly, celebration and recognition of County employees.

Community and Recreation Center Services Amazing Dinosaurs at Berewick Recreation Center On September 26, the amazing dinosaurs visited the Ray’s playhouse.

The dinosaurs came to celebrate a birthday of one of our children. Our playhouse is an exciting place for children’s birthday parties and other celebrations. For information on programs and rentals at our playhouse, contact 704 432 4934.

Pre-schoolers visit Albemarle Road Recreation Center Students from Smart Kids Daycare participated in a Kick, Catch, and Shoot session at the Albemarle Road Recreation Center this past week. The session included basic basketball passing, shooting, and dribbling drills, as well as putting those skills into action with an informal scrimmage. Program Participants also played a crowd favorite “duck duck goose”. Kick, Catch, and Shoot is a monthly program, offered to area preschool students that covers the fundamentals of a variety of indoor and outdoor sports offered by Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Department. Youth & Adult Sports Programming, Revolution & Grady Cole/Memorial Stadium Youth Flag Football The weather is turning cooler and you know what that means? Football Season!!! Saturday mornings at Sugaw Creek Park are busy with Mecklenburg County’s Youth Flag Football League. Come out to see these kids run, pass, pull flags, and most of all have FUN! Youth basketball registration will run from October 1 - 31. To register, visit your closest recreation center. Adult Women's Volleyball The women volleyball team will have their final regular season game for the fall league next Thursday, October 9th at West Charlotte Rec Center starting at 6:30pm. There is a total of 5 teams in the league this season. The playoffs for the fall league will begin the week after on October 16th. Youth & Adult Sports Programming, Revolution & Grady Cole/Memorial Stadium Adult Pickleball Tournament This Saturday, October 4th, we will be hosting a fall pickleball tournament at Jeff Adams Tennis Center for adults, seniors and teens. There will be a women’s double division, men’s double division, and mixed doubles divisons. The tournament will start at 9am that morning. Adult Softball The fall season for the adult softball Men’s D and Co-Rec leagues are still taking place at Renaissance Park and Nevins Park (Thursday Co-Rec). There is a total of 89 teams in the league this season. The games take place on Monday-Thursday nights starting at 7pm. Aquatics Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center The Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center is hosting a dual swim meet October 3 – 4. The Queen City Dolphins, Team Charlotte Swimming, New South Swimming, and Atom swim team will participate in the event. 254 kids will compete at their first meet of the swim season.
