Every JVI Spiral Elevator is engineered to the exact application requirements.

Spiral Elevators for Vertical Conveying The spiral elevator is a proven JVI product for the vertical up or down conveyance of dry bulk material. The spiral elevator has a very light conveying motion that handles the product gently. The helical pattern of the Spiral Elevators trough creates a long conveying path with high retention time that can be utilized for cooling, heating or drying processes in a small workspace. Thermal Treatment Options Spiral elevators can be designed with options to heat, cool or dry a material as it is conveyed. •

Direct: Air cooling is accomplished by a vent on top of the elevator through which cooled air travels into the center tube of the elevator. The vertical center tube has holes on each level. The cooled air is blown out of the holes and across the moving material. See Figure 1. Indirect: Water heating, drying or cooling is accomplished via a laser-welded double floor that is filled with water. The water is the transfer medium used to heated or cool material as it is conveyed. See Figure 2.

Thermal treatment systems can be combined. For instance, drying via indirect heat (water), and then cooling via direct air. A steam heating system is also available. Drives Spiral elevators are driven by two unbalanced JVI electromechanical drives arranged to provide gentle conveying by ‘micro-throw’ motions. The smooth ‘micro-throw’ motion prevents material degradation during conveying. The motors are attached to the tube either above or below to guarantee even transportation through out the conveyance path. Drives are chosen based on the elevator size. Options Spiral elevators are engineered to meet exact application requirements. Therefore designs vary depending on the process, material, conveying path and the various surrounding conditions. Heights from 3 to 25 feet are possible. Figure 1: Direct Air Cooling Blower Holes
