Big rise in September exports The country’s exports for September were up 21.2 per cent to US$18.06 billion year-on-year, with imports totalling US$14.99 billion, an increase of 16 per cent, Commerce Minister Porntiva Nakasai said on Wednesday. The exports in the first nine months to September totalled US$143.14 billion, up 31.1 per cent on the same period last year, said Mrs Porntiva. Imports for the nine months were up 43.5 per cent to US$133.99 billion, resulting in a trade surplus of US$9.15 billion. “The record high export value last month was partly boosted by free trade area agreements between the country’s trade partners, particularly the member countries of Asean, and the success in introducing a border trade strategy by the Ministry of Commerce,” the minister said.
