From the Desk Of MDNA President Dear fellow MDNA Members and Premier Vendors, As you are aware, the MDNA Board met in September, in conjunction with our 80th Anniversary and it was a fantastic event thanks to all of the sponsors, the Convention Committee, and especially the attendees. All the sponsors are listed in the following pages. Please take a moment and familiarize yourself with the wonderful list. Just think about it; if these companies are willing to step up to support the organization, just imagine what they can do for you as resources and partners. I am excited to announce that we have brought in 5 new members. Together we can continue to grow this organization, with high-quality members just like the new ones listed in these pages. Do you know these new members? If you do, call and congratulate them, and if you don’t, do like one of our great members in New England does and call and introduce yourself. There are deals to be made. In this edition, the Austin D. Lucas Scholarship Fund Trustees are out with their list of scholarship recipients for the 2021-2022 year. It warms my heart to see all these young faces knowing that they are working hard to write their own destiny, and the MDNA is helping them achieve their dreams. As ADLSF President Kristine Conroy always says “our scholarship fund is the heart of the MDNA.” Another exciting bit of news to share with you is that the MDNA has sold its office building in Alexandria, VA. This building has served us well since 1998, however like everything, change happens. And modernization and consolidation of staff we have not needed the entire building for some time. Yet, for many years, it served as a revenue generator for the association, as we rented out the extra space. However, the real estate market in Alexandria has changed, with a large amount of new office space becoming available and the downturn in office space demand, we were having trouble keeping paying tenants in the space. So, your Board of Directors made the decision to sell the building and put the revenue in safe and secure investments that will more than pay for rental office space for the staff and allow us to continue to keep dues as slow as possible. I am happy to report that we were successful in selling the building and we closed on the sale in mid-October. We then leased and moved the staff to new offices nearby. The new address is 5568 General Washington St., Suite A213D, Alexandria VA 22312. I hope and pray that all of you have a wonderful holiday season and look forward to seeing you at one of our great events in 2022. All of our chapters are planning great chapter meetings. And on the national front, the AMEA will be putting on a Forum in March, hosted by Dan Wheeler, Wheeler Machinery Sales, in Los Angeles. We will be hosting a Supersized Weekend with the Pros in May, in Detroit and Toledo. And nally, in September there will be the much-loved Chicago Chapter IMTS Dinner Meeting. You can always get the latest event news at MDNA.org.

MDNA 80th Anniversary Convention 2021 Thank you to all who attend this year’s Annual Convention. It was truly special in many ways. First, because we were celebrating our 80th anniversary. Second, because we once again came together to do what this association does best; bring members and premier vendors together for education, socializing, and most importantly, networking. And we marked our return to in-person association activities. We could not have had this successful event without the generosity of our sponsors (listed on the following three pages and still visible on our website. Thank you to all of you. We look forward to seeing you at one of the national events in 2022.

MDNA Life me Achievement Award Goes To

Dan Strand MDNA has awarded, sparingly its highest honor, the MDNA Lifetime Achievement Award. Past recipients include: Harvey S. Eisen (1994), Austin D. Lucas (2002), John Conroy (2013), Jeannine Harris (2015) and Jack Boecher (2018). The Lifetime Achievement Award is given, as the name implies, to honor a lifetime of achievements and contributions to MDNA and the used machinery industry. While tradition has been that this award has been given to an individual that has retired, or is close to retirement from MDNA service, this is not necessarily the rule. Dan’ s service to the MDNA began in 1989, as the Treasurer of the Milwaukee/Minneapolis Chapter and continued nonstop, ultimately Left to right - Jack Boecher presents being elected and serving with distinction as the Lifetime Achievement Award to Dan Strand MDNA President in 2001-2003. Along the way and after his presidency he served in every committee and capacity imaginable. Dan stepped off the Board in 2018 to focus on family, his business, and to make room for the next generation of MDNA leaders to continue the MDNA Legacy that he and many before him advanced. Dan shared the following quote: “Receiving the MDNA Lifetime Achievement Award from your peers is very humbling, it’s wonderful to receive such an award for something you believe in and love to do. Giving my time to the MDNA has never been work; it’s been a pleasure and privilege to serve the association and it’s members, I thank all of you for your support and con dence in allowing me to lead this amazing association. No one achieves an award like this alone; the support I received from the MDNA staff was bar none, I had many colleagues that gave me great insight. I was fortunate to give so many years to the association because of the endless support and backing from my parents, in-laws and my wife Beth, and daughters Ashley and Andrea, thank you. As I look at the leadership today, I see dedicated people/volunteers that will move this great association forward for years to come. Thanks again to all of you for allowing me to experience such a remarkable journey in my life.” Dan Strand, Strand Industrial Machinery Co. MDNA NEWS | PAGE 6

SCHOLARSHIP FUND

Austin D. Lucas Scholarship Trust Recipient Aneesh Sabnis I am extremely honored to receive the Austin D. Lucas Scholarship this year. As a sophomore studying computer science and mathematics, this scholarship has inspired me to keep pushing forward with my degree. I want to continue with my education through graduate school where I plan to specialize in theoretical computer science, and I hope to eventually participate in research and have a positive impact through my contributions. Most importantly, I would like to thank the kind donors and the board of trustees who made this all possible. Finishing school with less debt or money to spare reduces stress and goes a long way for all of us. It is with your help that students across the country can achieve our dreams regardless of nancial status.

Robert Atherton Memorial Trust Scholarship Recipient Katina Lucas My name is Katina Lucas, and I am a freshman at Lake Forest College in Illinois. I would like to thank the Trustees of the Austin D. Lucas Scholarship Fund and MDNA. Thank you to Robert and Martha Atherton for giving me the generous Robert Atherton Memorial Trust Scholarship. Receiving this award will help fund my schooling at Lake Forest College where I will be majoring in Biology and eventually transferring into medical school to obtain my Doctorate of Physical Therapy. The generous scholarship means so much to me because it helps me to reach my career goals. I want to be a pediatric physical therapist working with children to help them through their physical and mental troubles that come with physical inabilities. As a child, I had to go through extensive physical therapy and inevitably avoided surgery thanks to the wonderful physical therapists that helped me. I want to pay it forward and help kids like me through their struggles. The scholarship will help me continue working hard towards this goal to help others. I understand the thoughtful consideration it takes to choose who receives this award and I am very grateful that it was me. Through hard work, I got where I am today, and I am thankful that MDNA wants me to continue my hard work and succeed in life. Thank you for supporting my career studies!
