Blackbird TV MDNA Member David Fiegel Blackbird Asset Services, LLC introduces us to his unique and very successful Social Media Project. David Says: “It is social media marketing with a twist. The four tenets of our brand are that Blackbird is: Smart, Thorough, Connected, Perceptive (see https://www.blackbirdauctions.com/smart-thorough-connected-perceptive/ ). This Blackbird TV project allows us to showcase all of these traits, together with our guests.”

When asked what’s in it for him he responded that “personally, it's fun and professionally, I am glad that we can give these video segments to our guests to use in their marketing as well. They lift both brands, elevate us as thought leaders & experts in the subject matter. During the video process, the guiding question to the

guest is "what can we talk about that is important to customer?" Lots of professional development books talk about giving to receive. We are giving this away, and this investment will come back at some point. Partnerships, JV's, new bank clients, whatever. The ether has a way of working these things out.” With four segments already on LinkedIn, and Facebook David says “we have content in the bank for many more and are always looking for fresh ideas to share. We'll step up the release schedule after the holidays.”

All MDNA Members are encouraged to subscribe to their feed, follow them on LinkedIn and Facebook and any MDNA or AMEA member that has a story to tell or specialized knowledge they would like to share can reach out to David to discuss an opportunity.

The MDNA Family Tree -

Winternitz Branch When recently asked for an introductory paragraph or two, for the MDNA News, as is common practice for new members, Charlie Winternitz (not known for his brevity), gave us a very interesting history lesson that we could not put down. It’s worth the read. “Winternitz Industrial Auctioneers & Appraisers is a National asset disposition services rm. A reputation that spans over 125-years and four generations of experience. Thousands of transactions completed with a repeat client base. Winternitz specializing in complex projects from entire plants to multiple locations, from surplus equipment to complete closures. We have a global reach, loyal customer service and a trusted partner. Winternitz serves privately and publicly held companies, United States bankruptcy court, nancial institutions, advisors, and turnaround management professionals. Our appraisal division provides certi ed equipment appraisals widely accepted throughout the manufacturing and nancial sectors. Our appraisers maintain designations of Certi ed Equipment Appraiser (CEA) from the Association of Machinery & Equipment Appraisers (AMEA), among other distinctions. Winternitz industrial is a licensed auctioneer in 20 states. Charlie Winternitz and Kevin Miller are AMEA Certi ed Equipment Appraiser’s (CEA); Charlie Winternitz is a past president and current board member of the AMEA; board member and past executive officer of the MDNA. In addition to the MDNA and AMEA, Winternitz Industrial is a member of numerous National professional trade & state associations. Their sister division, Northview Capital LLC., provides best-in-class collateral-based equipment nancing to companies who do not t traditional bank lending requirements. Our decision making is based on the underlying equipment value, understanding the current nancial situation, and being part of structuring a successful path forward. Winternitz Industrial Auctioneers & Appraisers and Northview Capital, LLC are led in partnership by Charlie Winternitz, John Hagist & Andy King. A little family history, stay with me it gets interesting… I represent the fourth generation of an active auction family in the machinery marketplace, dating back to 1894 when my great-grandfather, Samuel l. Winternitz, auctioned items from the World’s Columbian exposition in Chicago. Our rich history is “un-matched.” The original name of the company was Railroad Wrecking & Salvage, subsequently changed to Samuel l. Winternitz & Co. Samuel’s wife was Mary Winternitz, whose maiden name was “Tauber.” Michael Tauber branched out into the auction business, and in the 1920’s headed west to California. His daughter subsequently married an “Arons,” and Tauber-Arons was formed. Led by tony Arons, Tony is a cousin, competitor & friend. For many years, the family business was run by Lester Winternitz and Stephen Winternitz, the 2nd and 3rd generation. They enjoyed much success with close machinery dealer partners such as Eli & Harold Blumberg of Adams machinery. Harold was the 1st president of the MDNA. Many family members worked for the auction business over the years, and for various

Winternitz Branch reasons, branched out on their own. As example, Adolph “fats” Winternitz, Norman Levy & Company in Chicago and Norman Levy & Associates in Detroit. Charlie Ackerman ran the family office in Detroit. Dick Brody was a valued member of the rm. Mike Ackerman, currently at PPL, is Charlie Ackerman’s son, and Mike’s son, who currently works at Loeb, is named after his grandfather. Charlie Winternitz is also named after Charlie Ackerman. Lester Winternitz re-married, and his wife was Ruth Muslin, David’s mother. David Muslin & Stephen Winternitz are stepbrothers. David worked at Winternitz with Mike Ackerman. David then held a position at Kempler Industries and afterwards with Perfection Machinery under Sid Lieberstein where he became partners with Pat Angus. Michael Ackerman worked at Industrial Plants with Danny Herz for many years until the “Jimmy Blumberg Invasion.” When IPC/Levy was formed, Michael came back to Winternitz and then he reunited with David at PPL. Russell & Randy Koster (Randy is AMEA Immediate Past President) worked at the New York Headquarters of Industrial Plants. Norm Adler & Joey Herz (Danny’s son) subsequently moved from Industrial Plants to Hilco. Are you following this??? Winternitz, Inc. Struck a deal in 2008 with Hilco, which was a very short experience. Dave Heath & Tom Mowery worked at Winternitz for over 20-years, and after the short stint at Hilco, they started Heath Industrial. In 2009, Charles started Loeb Winternitz of which he was president until 2020. In April of 2020, Charlie, john & Andy formed Northview Capital and re-started Winternitz industrial. After 126-years of juicy gossip & a storied history, we are just scratching the surface and it’s a little crazy! There are so many more great stories about the history of MDNA members throughout the Country. We ask that you share your stories to help the Association preserve its rich history. To share with younger members, to better understand where we came from, and strengthen the foundation for the future. Winternitz Industrial is now well into the fourth generation and today our company offers a legacy of integrity, service,

continued

and industry expertise. Plus, the innovative thinking and drive of a new generation. Dedicated to the values that have made Winternitz a leader in industrial auctions and appraisals. Winternitz industrial is a dynamic, results-oriented leader with a strong track record of resolving multiple and complex issues, providing keen analytics and insights while driving projects to timely conclusions. Winternitz Industrial is one of north America’s most experienced and respected industrial auction rms. We have conducted over 3,000 auctions sales throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico. With direct industry experience in: metalworking, woodworking, plastics, construction & transportation, food, pharmaceutical, cosmetic, chemical, processing, packaging, distribution, and various specialty industry asset sales. Some of our more famous sales throughout the span of our history were: Studebaker-Packard, Tucker Automobile, Hudson Automobile, Murry Automotive, Lionel Train, Pullman Rail Car, Gould & Eberhardt, Bell & Howell, United Technologies, Ekstrom-Carlson, Curtis-Wright Air Force Base, Circus World Museum, Maywood and Sportsman’s Race Tracks, Kraft Foods, Quaker Oats, AT&T, Siemens, Wurlitzer, Marmon Group, and even a “Sunken Ship” off the Port of Milwaukee, to name a few. We value all our partnerships & friendships at MDNA. As an Association, we have weathered many different economic challenges, political hurdles and legal issues that directly affected our businesses. The MDNA has fostered many close business relationships that have bloomed into prosperous business dealings and lifelong friendships. We look forward to working with you on many future projects. Buying, selling, auction, appraising and partnering all types of machinery & equipment. Leverage our experience, let’s sign that next deal & make sone money together!”

SCHOLARSHIP FUND

I am grateful and honored to receive the Austin D. Lucas Scholarship. Along with other recipients, I want to thank the generous donors who donate to the Scholarship Fund to fund such a large number of scholarships for so many students. This scholarship will allow me to graduate with my degree in Computer Science and Mathematics from Vanderbilt University. With my degree, I plan on working in software engineering and data science along with projects I am passionate about to helps others - such as creating a new type of social media that makes better use of our time; improving on my code to summarize paragraphs so people can save time when reading; and creating a platform where people can share website information easily. The Austin D. Lucas Scholarship Fund allows students to obtain our education with less debt and nancial burden. College tuition in ation factor is almost around three times the general U.S. in ation factor. College tuition has ballooned to a nearly untenable level. America is the land of the free, but if students have mountains of college loans weighing us down, we do not have the freedom to start a business, buy a home, or pursue our American dream. Thank you for offering us the very precious, additional freedom. I hope to use this freedom to the best of my ability to develop myself through my career and eventually start a technology rm in my hometown of Aurora, Illinois, and give back to the people and the community that I love and that has shaped me.
