October 25, 2016, our MDNA family lost Richard Goldstein. “Dick’ was the quintessential MDNA member, having been a part of Cadillac Machinery Co. Inc., and then moving on to found Machinery Trading, LLC. He is survived by his wife and best friend Barbara, and children Joshua, Kathryn and Jeremy. His wife Barb spoke of Dick’s love for his “chosen family, the MDNA” during her remarks at his service. She continued by thanking those of us able to attend and pay our respects. Dick was a long time MDNA Board Member. He started serving on the Board in 1993 as the Chicago Chapter Representative. He served on the Ethics & Mediation Committee, PR Committee, Serial Number Reference Book Committee and Membership Committee. He served as a nationally elected Director-at-Large since 1997. In recognition of his tireless service to the Board of Directors, the MDNA and the entire used machinery industry, Dick received the Earl Elman Distinguished Service Award in 2012. This prestigious award is presented for outstanding contributions to MDNA and the used machinery industry. He also received the MDNA Leadership Award in recognition of his exemplary and extraordinary leadership qualities. Dick was well known for being the consummate parliamentarian and a trustee of our association’s Constitution and Bylaws. Dick was instrumental in writing and reviewing many of our guiding documents. His guidance will be sorely missed in our association. Dick was a mentor to me and so many other people when they joined the board. A constant resource and teacher, he was always ready to help better the board and association. Nobody can describe Dick better than one of his closest friends and former board member John Hyman. “Dick was a good friend, savvy businessman, well respected, ethical and helpful. He was perhaps one of the most revered and respected members of the machinery industry in the last 20 years.”

The Austin D. Lucas Board of Trustees is honored to present the Austin D. Lucas Trust Award to Adrian Lewczuk, one of the 2016 scholarship recipients. This prestigious award commemorates Austin D. Lucas’ many years of philanthropy and dedication to charitable works. Each year this award is presented to the scholarship recipient who best exemplifies Austin’s spirit of generosity and dedication to the service of others. Adrian Lewczuk is the son of Andrzej and Renata Lewczuk of Westway Machinery Ltd.

I am honored and humbled to accept the Austin D. Lucas Trust Award and Austin D. Lucas Scholarship, especially as the first Canadian recipient. I am beyond grateful to be able to focus on the most valuable privilege in attending a post-secondary institution – the ability to further my education. Austin D. Lucas, the philanthropic founder and namesake of this award, inspires me to further my contribution to the people around me. My belief is that the drive to volunteer sprouts from a desire to give back to my community just as others before me have worked to positively impact my life. The scholarship I have received has enabled me to have more time to be involved in the community, succeed in my academic endeavors thus far, and pursue my passions. I’d like to thank all of the individuals who have taken part in the Austin D. Lucas Scholarship fund in order to invest in the futures of students like me. With gratitude, Adrian Lewczuk The Austin D. Lucas Scholarship Fund was started in 1983 by Austin D. Lucas, a machinery dealer, whose goal was to help fund the college education of children whose parents work for firms belonging to MDNA. Over the years the scholarship fund has grown through contributions of Austin’s fellow MDNA members. It is from this fund that scholarships are awarded.

AMEA Releases Preliminary Schedule for 2017 Appraisers’ Forum The 2017 Appraisers' Forum is shaping up to be another great event! We are changing the format of the Forum slightly to condense the schedule, while still offering just as many great learning and networking opportunities. This will allow you to be away from your office for a shorter period of time but still have the chance to earn up to 18 continuing education hours. The 1-day forum for the machinery & equipment appraising industry will provide premiere speakers, educational offerings and networking. Additionally, we will offer both a 7 hour USPAP course in conjunction with the Forum.
