Dan R. Strand Retires from the MDNA Board
After continuous dedicated service to MDNA and our Board of Directors (Dan began his service in 1991) Dan Strand is stepping off the Board. Strand’s contributions to the industry began in 1985 when he joined Harvey Machinery, Inc. working his way up through the company. After leaving there he formed his own company, Strand Industrial Machinery Co., LLC located in Hamel, MN. Other highlights of his dedication to the industry include his years of service in the MDNA Milwaukee/Minneapolis Chapter, holding every MDNA National Officer position, culminating with his term as President of the MDNA in 2001. At one time or another he served with distinction on every MDNA Committee including: Ethics & Mediation, Nominating, Membership/Membership Retention, Machine Tool Reference Guide, Long-Range Planning, Government Affairs, and Public Relations. Strand was also a recipient of the MDNA Leadership Award in 1994 and the MDNA Randolph K. Vinson Award in 2012. The standing ovation Strand received at his last MDNA Board Meeting was testament to the huge contribution that he has made, and continues to make, to the used machinery industry.
MDNA Honors Charles (Chuck) Wood, CEA
At the President’s Gala in New York City, MDNA honored Chuck Wood with the Earl Elman Distinguished Service Award. This award was named in honor of former MDNA/MIS President Earl Elman on May 27, 1989. The Earl Elman Distinguished Service Award is presented sparingly, and as appropriate, but not on a regular basis. Eligibility is open to anyone who has made an outstanding contribution to MDNA and the used machinery industry. Mr. Wood began his MDNA Board Service in 1990. Before that he was the life blood of the Ohio Valley Chapter for many years. As an MDNA Board Member he served on all major committees and served as chairman of both the Membership and Public Relations Committee. Wood also rose through the ranks of the Locator Services Inc. Board of Directors and served as their president from 2009 to 2011. This recognition was bitter sweet for the MDNA as we were able to honor Chuck with this prestigious award; however, at the same time we are saying thank you for your many years of exemplary service, Chuck is stepping off the Board. We know he is looking forward to more time with his grandchildren and maybe a little more time riding his Harley!
Teka Holly Creates A Work Of Art, For A Great Cause
If you have called the MDNA office in the last ten years or utilized MDNA’s library of manuals and publications, chances are you have had the pleasure of speaking with Teka Holly. Teka not only celebrated 10 years with the MDNA at this year’s convention, she was also there to present a gift. She created a very special oil painting, commemorating our event in New York City. She donated this work of art to the Austin D. Lucas Scholarship Fund. It was then auctioned off during the MDNA Annual Meeting. Eric Merbeck of Quaker City Auctioneers Inc., conducted the spirited auction and when the hammer came down MDNA President Joe Lundvick of Perfection Global, LLC, was the high bidder and Teka’s wonderful gift generated $1,600 for the scholarship fund.

MDNA Converges on Times Square MDNA 2018 Convention and Annual meeting is now in the review mirror. Looking back, many attendees have said it was a great convention for a number of different reasons all made possible by a huge list of great sponsors. The MDNA owes a debt of gratitude to all those without whose support we could not create this successful event. The social and network events were awesome. Thursday included a double decker bus tour of New York City on a rain free opening day. This was followed by a private evening at Ascent, one of the hottest night clubs in the city. On Friday spouses had a private tour of Radio City Music Hall followed by a very special lunch. Friday evening everyone gathered for a reception before attending any of three Broadway shows or going out on the town. Saturday concluded with the President’s Gala that included good food, drink and an incredible amount of dancing with a great band.
