The Power of
CHOICE F
or so many years, I heard people say that the difference between where we are and where we want to be is time…and I believed it. Now I've realized that it may not be entirely true. I now believe that the difference between when we are and where we want to be is choice…the choices we make. While in secondary school, my friends and I had big dreams...humongous dreams in fact. One friend wanted to be a doctor; the other wanted to be an architect and I wanted to be the youngest senior advocate of Nigeria. We were really bright students so we believed it was only a matter of time before life would hand us our dreams wrapped in fancy gift bags. Time passed alright! It's been a decade actually but I am not the youngest senior advocate of Nigeria, my first friend is not a doctor and the other is not an architect. So what went wrong?
For starters, the Nigerian Educational system didn't treat us well. With great results and all, we were not given the courses we wanted. For someone who wanted to be a lawyer so, I couldn't stand the thought of studying something else, so I waited at home. I even enrolled for a diploma course in Law before another admission session. But when I got tired I accepted the next course that admission year threw at me…English and literary studies. Today, I am not a lawyer because I chose to accept English and Literary studies. I could still be a lawyer if I
wanted but I would have to choose to do that. That's my point. We all are where we are today because somewhere in our yesterdays, we chose to accept some things. Some people may say 'No Laura, God chose for me'. Truth is, that is half true. The other half is the fact that you chose to accept God's choice. For example, believers in the Christian faith believe that Jesus Christ died to give mankind a new life but not everyone has that new life. God made the decision to save mankind but until mankind accepts that decision, the status quo remains.
Laura MichaelPhilips is graduate of English and Literary Studies with a strong creative presence. Besides being a writer, public speaker and M.C, she is also an Assistant Producer at the Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN Africa). Laura Phils, as she is fondly called, enjoys being married to Michael Philips.
I'll give another example. I know a couple of ladies who are married to men who aren't so tall yet their idea of a dream man is tall, dark and handsome. I also know some men who always nursed the conviction of marrying tall, slim and beautiful women. Today, a lot of them are married to tall, slim and beautiful women. Hey, it's really just a matter of choice. In some cases, the seemingly wrong choice could even bring you more happiness than you could ever dream. It is still up to you. So the next time you find yourself complaining about the unpleasant things in your life, look back and see how your choices landed you there. If they are things you cannot change, you can choose to change your attitude towards them. The power of choice is your birthright. Use it wisely!

n growing up as a military child in a large family she admits it really influenced her life , “ life was much simpler …things were cheaper ! Every parent was a parent to every child, a “family feel” enveloped everyone. We learnt how to do house chores really early in life because of the way we grew up. We were pushed to be smarter and on top of things plus growing up in a large family you learn to go for what you want quickly. If she'd change careers looking back she says no, it really shaped her life and she'd pick medicine again! Plus God has been faithful, none of her children have had cause to be admitted in the hospital or anything like that and for that she's extremely grateful! Every profession affects your life positively or negatively.... when I started yes it was an adjustment the night shifts and all but it all paid off ! I am now a chief nursing officer, specialized in perioperative nursing so I do have more flexible hours. As a very spiritual person we asked what values she hopes will rub off on people she comes in contact with “ well I'd like people to know that whatever they desire it will surely come as long as they mdoom 13
rely on God and wherever they have failed they will rise again. God will always make a way for you - There's greatness in everybody as long as you connect with God it will surely show up”. My watchword is “Do unto others as you wish them to do to you”… On her style , this beautiful nurse is more comfortable in native attires and light make up and accessories… her look has indeed changed over the years from a casual to a more refined and glamorous edgy feel. On her hobbies she mentioned Reading the bible & Christian literature , also cooking – her favorite food she stated as Wheat and vegetable soup – very healthy right (laughs) listening to music is also one of her favorite past times – her favorite artists : Chris Morgan and Sinach. “Sometimes the way they sing, you’d think they are going to a different heaven” (laughs) “My mentors are Apostle King Omudu & Joel Osteen, I have learnt a lot of godly principles from their lifestyles…I've seen the way Apostle King lives His life and he exemplifies the principles and godly ways he talks about and with a very approachable and likeable manner”. Her favorite bible verse off the top of her head… Romans 8:28 – 'And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to His purpose'. As a medical personnel she gave some tips on healthy living that we can incorporate into our daily lives *Take a lot of water, vegetables and fruits. *Eat more natural foods as opposed to refined foods and also consumption of meat should be reduced and preferably replaced with fish. *Also avoid heavy late night meals and fatty foods. *Exercise *take walks , they are also very helpful in keeping you fit and ready to hit the day with vigor. *Mummy Doo is our regular column on medical issues. while the person who has been hurt is still holding on to the pain. It is through this act of Forgiveness doesn't mean we let them hurt us again or that we even have to trust them again but it is about getting over it & moving on so that the rest of our life won't be bound to the painful experienceholding on to the pain that allows the person who did the hurting to take power over you because while they go on living their life & having fun, you are still grieving to the point that just seeing the person or hearing their name has the capacity to take you from one mood to another. THAT'S POWER!! This is why forgiveness is so important for it is the only way to take the power back so that the person who hurt you and what they did ceases to control your mood, your behaviour & even your future relationships. No one should ever have that kind of power over your life as it inadver Forgiveness doesn't mean we let them hurt tently us again or that we even have to trust them again makes you a but it is about getting over it & moving on so slave to
e have probably all been there at one point or another in our lives. Been in a place of pain & sadness because someone we cared about & who we thought cared about us hurt us by something they did or said. For some people, it was a friend or a spouse, for others, it may have been a parent or sibling but no matter who it was, the fact remains that our feelings were hurt and they caused us a lot of pain. It is at this point that we need to forgive & take back the power that was taken from us as the quote at the start of this article states. Forgiveness doesn't mean we let them hurt us again or that we even have to trust them again but it is about getting over it & moving on so that the rest of our life won't be bound to the painful experience. The main issue is that the person or persons whether they are aware or not could have moved on & are enjoying their lives

Ekikere....my thoughts.
The Single Girl's Guide To Coping With(OUT) MARRIED FRIENDS Before the wedding….. You're all single, searching and having a great time. Then one by one, your friends get picked off by men or women, like a hawk picks up the chicks of a careless mother hen. At first, you're ecstatic and feel honoured for being asked to help plan the wedding and be part of the aso-ebi/bride's special ladies. You get miffed if another gets the chief bridesmaid's spot you've been eyeing since you and your chum were five year olds, playing with Sisi and Aboy (Naija's version of Barbie and Ken). The exorbitant amounts of money you're asked to shell out for the weddings are nonchalantly dismissed, as is the distance you have to travel to make their days memorable. If it's a male friend, you scheme and tickle him to find out and ensure that his groomsmen are all hunks with six-pack abs, seven-figured bank balances and trouble-free mothers. Life is good. Hakunamatata. Time passes and more of them walk off into the sunset with Mr/Miss Right. All too soon, you realise exactly what role you play at those weddings: free labour, a glorified clothes hanger and picture background/filler. Suddenly, you have numerous questions to ask. Like: 1. Why would she choose those atrocious colours? Who ever heard of electric yellow and peach for bridesmaids' dresses? At this point, if you've got one of those annoying friends who likes to act as everyone's Jiminy Cricket, she'll say something like, “But it's her day, now. Let's just wear it and make her happy.”Your reply? “Oh shut up, please! How do you expect me to pay twenty thousand naira for a dress that I'll
never put on again? I won't even dash that monstrosity to my enemy!” 2. Do they really expect me to travel from Kaduna to Calabar for their traditional marriage and then still attend the church ceremony in Lagos? You're no longer interested in doing a tour round the country like you're AwiloLogomba trying last ditch attempts to revive a dead singing career.Time now really means money.Or you'd rather curl up in bed than go. 3. How dare Yemi think of making married men his groomsmen? You aren't bashful when you call him and say, “Look here, don't you dare repeat Bassey's mistake! If I so much as smell a married man on that train, you go hear am!” Yup! How dare they reduce your hunting ground in such a callous manner? Wicked friends! After the wedding… a. Fast forward six months later. Out of the blues, it dawns on you that you haven't spoken with her for almost two months. So you pick up your phone with excitement and dial her number. She doesn't pick up. Surprise, surprise! When she eventually returns your call, it is to tell you that she was busy. You know what busy means, eh? Mmhmm! If you haven't yet figured it out at this point, let me spell it out for you; your friend is gone. Yeah, her hubby is her new best friend and she isn't going to call you for any kind of serious talk any time soon. SOLUTION: Make a new friend. I'm not saying replace her or him; just saying make a new friend. In addition, find other single acquaintances that aren't busy and get to know them better, for they'll be your new best friends. b. An opportunity finally opens up for you to see your friend. In fact, she calls you and mdoom 19
arranges a lunch date. Eager and looking forward to seeing her, you break your 'African time' rule and arrive at the date venue promptly. Ta daa! Your enthusiasm wanes when you find that she's invited three other ladies. And…..they're married. You're the odd one out, but you don't mind…yet. You just want to spend some time with your meilliure amie. However, things soon turn sour when all they talk about are their husbands, children, school fees, carpools etc. Your one attempt to introduce another topic for discussion settles eight pairs of curious eyes on you. Be on your guard; this is when they try to match make you with their husbands' ugly, potbellied friends, brothers, and colleagues. Your protestations are summarily ignored and as you shoot each candidate down, they frown and tell you you're too choosy.
CODED TO YOUR IRIS AND CAN ONLY BE READ BY YOU. A SELFDESTRUCT SEQUENCE WILL INITIATE AS SOON AS YOU'RE DONE READING. Warning: Thunder will strike any foreign eyes that view this.” Trust me, you don't want someone's husband walking up to you to give you unsolicited advice about how to deal with that time of the month or the crush you have on your boss. If you apply the above keys, you should be safe. And if like me, you've got an awesome circle of single and married friends, who haven't abandoned you, count yourself blessed!
SOLUTION: You can do any of these three: to go on those dates with another single friend so you can talk single people things when the topic of discussion is out of your field, politely ask them to include you in their conversations or stop going on such dates(sorry, I can't choose for you). c.
Before you rush off to confide in your nowmarried friend about that reproductive organ palaver or relationship conundrum you're going through, listen. Some couples take that phrase “and the two shall become one,” quite literarily. I mean, short of being surgically attached to each other, they believe they're one. They've got no secrets from each other (or so they tell you) and will gladly share, dissect, analyse and summarise whatever you tell one party in confidence.
SOLUTION: Attach a caveat to all private tête-à-têtes that come after they say “I do.” Such discourses, chats, pings, e-mails, sms and Whatsapp messages, should be duly marked “SECRET,” “FOR-YOUR-EYES-ONLY” and if you can afford the technology, “THIS MESSAGE IS mdoom 20

HALITOSIS This is basically defined as bad breadth , causes include: Inadequate oral hygiene, poor digestion constipation, consumption of alcoholic beverages smoking. Diet plays a vital role in it's prevention and control. A diet of plant based foods promotes proper digestion. Non refined wheat: this alleviates constipation which causes many cases of halitosis Apples : they regulate the intestines and balance the intestinal flora because of their pectin (soluble fiber) fruits help in cleansing the mouth. Yoghurt : it helps with halitosis by stabilizing the intestinal flora thus avoiding fermentation and putrefaction. Water : it relieves constipation which relieves halitosis. Avoid: Alcoholic berverages they disturb the digestive mucosa and foster halitosis. Sugar and soft drinks encourages the proliferation of germs in the mouth that causes gingivitis, dental caries e.t.c all which contributes to halitosis Care of the mouth: proper dental and oral hygiene is vital. t's been a wonderful year and I wonder what you've been doing with it….? Ehen? What have you done with it? What have you done with your days, months and years? Yes they came and passed with you hoping and procras na ng about what you would do and how you would go about doing it but did you ever get to doing those things? Or did yo u j u st h o p e t h at s o m e h o w something would happen and you would move on and touch the sky and that your dreams would drop into your laps without any effort on your part. Sorry to disappoint you but there are no freebies when it comes to the road to your success. There has to be a deliberate and definite effort made on your part towards achieving and reaching your goals. There is a YOU part asides from the GOD part. I know a lot of you might go all spiritual on me and say how you are wai ng for Gods me but are you really wai ng for His me or are you just wishing without working? Lets look at your dreams /goals for the year. Are they? Specific Measureable Achievable Reliable and Time bound? Were you specific in what you were

saying or were you just hoping? For example, I want a new car is different from I want a Range Rover Sport. The first is general and so it could be any car but the second is specific so it can be measured in the sense that when the car comes you are sure that your goal has been met. Did you put a me frame for those that can be med? For instance, I want to get married. When? This year, next year, any me? When your plans are not specific and me bound you might not be commi ed to achieving them. If I know I have a me limit to submit a report I know be er how to appor on me and energy towards comple ng the report. It is important for us to take a second look at those plans again and check to see what we have not been able to achieve and begin to look at them using the parameters above. Wait sef! Before all this talking I should have asked whether we have plans at all and if we took me to write these plans out. If you ain't got wri en plans and they are in your mind as continued on page 46

here was something about the white t-shirt this lady handed jus me. She had just told the story of TOMS, and explained how for every pair of shoes bought, a pair was given to t never a child without shoes. But as I walked out got the opportunity to that room that Saturday morning, the words even explore. I'm sure you can see how this on the t-shirt stuck more than the story she had just told. threw wet blankets on my aspirations. In big light blue print, the t-shirt read:
“Start something that matters.”
Growing up I had big dreams. I always said, I couldn't put it on. I looked around as almost everyone like every other ambitious person out there, that that walked out the room put on their own tI wanted people to know my name. So I folded it and jets and mansions. with that. But we need to took it with me, but all I In simpler terms, I recognize that our spiritual could think about were those wanted the perfect nature calls us to lives of words – Start something that life. When I got home after teenage years, when I purpose the weekend, instead of putting it started to battle my away in my closet, I unfolded the frustrations with what shirt and pinned it up on my wall. seemed to me as my lack of Now that's typically not what people do success, which was derived from with shirts right? They wear them. But the words my view of “the perfect life”, God chose a on this shirt had made me think very profoundly, and simple way to work on my heart and change everyday I woke up, I wanted to be reminded. my perspective. On one Saturday morning at a seminar, I had received a shirt that read: “Start At 18 years old I had no idea what I wanted to be, and something that matters.” sometimes I add the words “when I grew up” at the end of that statement because for some reason, I felt like See, every time I thought about what I wanted growing up meant doing something very significant with to be, my thoughts surrounded this whole idea my life. Just when I thought I could take some time to of fame and fortune. My drive was to do figure it out, I would go on social media and see people something that would make me famous and accomplishing things that I wanted to accomplish, but wealthy. My determination to work hard was mdoom 36
fueled by the life I pictured for myself. But this was exactly the reason why I was watching everyone around me achieve the dreams I had, but me – I didn't understand purpose. Suddenly, the words on one tshirt had put things in perspective. I needed to understand who, and what I was living for. Growing up, to me, meant doing something significant with my life, but how I had previously measured significance was fame and wealth. Therefore until I had a huge account and became a household name, I hadn't achieved anything significant. However, now I was beginning to recognize that the real measure of significance is “something that matters,” and that it wasn't necessarily something I had to attain; it was something that I could start.
Serumun Ubwa, is a 24 year old Nigerian who is living life and learning lessons she loves to share with the world. She recently graduated from the University of Florida where she obtained her post graduate degree in public relations. Her love of people and interaction has aided her strong passion for expression through music and writing, and she continues to use these mediums to reach out to the world. She also has a zeal for humanitarianism, and she puts her energy in working with the less privileged, and advancing breast cancer awareness. "I might not be able to get to the world," she says, "but I plan on stretching my hands as far as they can reach."
Slowly, the perfect life started to mean something completely different – it was more about what I could give, than what I could get; more about what I could do, than what I could achieve. Although I haven't completely arrived at a total understanding of purpose, the transformation of my mind gave a whole new meaning to my idea of significance, and that is what I really needed to understand the part I am playing in advancing the kingdom. Our human nature makes us want to pursue the fame and the wealth, and there is nothing wrong with that. But we need to recognize that our spiritual nature calls us to lives of purpose – to make a difference around us even if it is in the simplest way possible; to touch and change lives; to start something that matters. Would it be nice to walk into Gucci and pick a pair of shoes without looking at the price tag? Absolutely! But that is not my idea of a perfect life anymore. Working on something that matters, is. Together, we can change the idea of what matters. As you read this, just like TOMS challenged me, I challenge you. Start something that matters. If it's as little as a glass of water to someone working under the sun all day long, it matters. If it's as big as shelter to a homeless person, it matters. Start something that matters. Then spread the word. Matthew 6:33.

"He hath made every thing beautiful in his time"- Ecclesiastes 3:11. It is October already? Do you have plans and goals that you want to achieve for the year and it looks like nothing is happening? Did God give you a promise or word for the year that looks as if it's taking too long? Often times we start the year with a lot of great expectations, belief and faith. God's word for you came and it was strong and direct. You made all your plans and goals around God's promises which is the best thing to do, but then it's august and it seems as if nothing is happening. You start asking a lot of questions and then making comparisons as a result of what you see around you. A brother shares another testimony in church of God's faithfulness and how He has answered his requests he penned down for the year and you wonder what's going on? YOU'RE NOT ALONE!! In the holy book (John 11) paints a story of God's Perfect timing. It was a hopeless case. Lazarus had died for at least four days and Jesus was aware from day one when he took ill. But He said in verse 4 "the sickness is not unto death but for the glory of God, that the son of God might be glorified thereby" {KJV}. He even knew when he died even before anyone told him (John 11:11,14) and yet was not moved (what moves man does not move God)not even death. No matter how bad a situation is, it's never over with God. So when Jesus finally got there, well Mary and Martha had lost faith already and concluded on the matter but Jesus was just getting started. He only told them that Lazarus was asleep. He also wept (Jesus was human who felt everything they felt even the pain of losing a loved one) John11:35. In the end Lazarus was brought back to life, the stone was rolled off and Jesus called him forth and commanded that the bounds be lose and set him free! God knows the end from the beginning. He is the ALPHA and OMEGA! He has set your plans in motion and He knows exactly when it will unfold. He is never early nor late , He is always on time. So when you start having this feeling just remember that GOD CANNOT LIE (Num 23:19) what He said He will do, He will do, also remember that we live by faith and not by sight (Hab 2:4 ). Don't give up, it's not even close to being over. Don't lose faith. Keep believing and trusting. Your time will come and it's now and it will be worth the wait because GOD makes everything beautiful in it's time. Your latter end will be greater than the beginning so the closer the year gets to an end, the better for you. "Better is the end of a thing than the beginning".( Eccl. 7:8).

Oprah Gail Winfrey persevered through these ordeals and climbed the ladder to becoming the richest African American of the 20th century, currently North America's ONLY black billionaire and the most influential woman in the world.
Growing up in a polygamous home where father and mother went their ways, Louis had to fend for himself on the streets a young child. Depending on the streets for his daily meal and not knowing what the future holds, Louis' life moved on. Dropped out from school at his teens and got involved in dangerous habit. In all, He kept feeling that there will be a way out someday. He began to learn trade, serve people and save every penny made. One day, his master needed to sell his business and Louis bought over the business. Today, Louis is a business owner and can take care of himself. Most great people of our times had their fair share of life's ordeals. In the midst of these, the future may seem bleak. People will tell you that your life will NEVER amount to anything significant. That is normal. Expect to hear more from people. They say that at times because they have attempted at life and failed or because they are afraid to attempt at all.
There might be times when it seems like everything is at a standstill, as though nothing is working. Every effort you put in may seem to yield nothing at all. Did you ever ask to know if you did anything wrong? Why you were at a disadvantaged point? Why all that is happened? No one can give you an answer. Just quit asking these questions that seem to have no answers. That is what I realize that you do now. Your situation is more than a dream..., it is REAL.....! . It may be going down the drain, that shouldn't worry you much. The first thing I urge you to

do now is to decide to move on since life keeps on. There is something about decision that brings an absolute turn around. This has to happen strongly in your mind. The mind is a platform where changes are birthed. Do not let the reality of the past engulf you like an insect trapped in a web. You can live in the past so much that the present eludes you and the future is never seen. Quit living in the past and make a turn at this point. Your past is orchestrated to be, so that there can be a future. The past is like a ladder you will have to use to step up into the future. Everything is meant to work out for the good of your life that is in the future. This you can't understand how it's done because God does it. Just follow THE WAY and know that HE will not lead you astray. It's a journey, you are not there yet. Keep moving even if you have to crawl, hop, walk or run. Just ensure that you are moving. Finding Financial Freedom
FINANCIAL
WELCOME to the maiden edition of Finding Financial Freedom In this series, I want to share with you one of the most powerful financial success secrets ever; The Power of SAVING. What is saving? 1. Saving simply means to keep something back for future use. 2. It also means to keep money or something back for a specific purpose. 3. This third point is interesting; saving can also be define as 'paying yourself' and finally 4. It can be viewed as investing into your tomorrow because tomorrow is better than today. I have seen many people spend all they have without thinking about tomorrow, they simply live for today. To live for today is to live too small. 'Be sensible and store up precious treasures, don't waste them like a fool' (Proverbs 21:20 (CEV). 'The wise have wealth and luxury, but fools spend whatever they get'
SUCCESS PRINCIPLES (Proverb 21:20 (NLT). 'There is a desirable treasure and oil in the dwelling of the wise but a foolish man squanders it' (Proverbs 21:20 (NKJV). Saving is bringing the future into today so you can do something about it! That means that success is predictable with saving. Success is said to be the progressive, continuous effort of attaining your plans and realizing your dreams. Take note of these words; progressive and continuous. It means therefore that no matter how BIG or 'FEARFUL' your dreams are, you can save for those difficult things while they are yet small. Biblical Joseph is a perfect example. He made a total victory out of a seeming humongous challenge that deliver the entire Egypt as a mdoom 51

you want to spend money again, ask yourself these 10 personal questions: 1. Will this thing I want to buy improve my life? 2. Even if it will, is the time right? 3. If the time is right, is there any substitute? 4. Have I compared the price? 5. Do I really need it now? 6. If I really need it, is it affordable? 7. If it is affordable. It was Dr Mike Murdock that said, 'Whatever you do consistently for 31 days becomes a habit. People don't decide their destiny, they decide their habits and their habits decide their destiny.' 2. See savings as a debt you owe. They way you pay for bills; credit card, mortgages, insurance, medical aid and all should be the same way you should see saving. With that in mind, you budget for it also monthly. 3. Create a saving friendly atmosphere. In the past people created a wooden box and keep some coins in them and after a while, it would accumulate over time. But it is advisable to do your best and ensure you put yourself in environment where you can access the need to save. 4. Keep friends who believe in saving and will encourage you. ave you ever been overwhelmed by something to the point where you want to give up? Have you on the other hand been overwhelmed by your plight you would rather stand up and refuse to stay down? Sometimes it is more difficult to stay down than to actually be struggling on your way up. Most times we are not down, we are trapped, trapped between not living our own lives and living our lives for another person. We live in a country where one is constantly being exploited of their knowledge by theft or by consent based on situational circumstances surrounding our lives. We work for others who manipulate us without pity and still show ingratitude for all the hard work and effort. They use our knowledge to become something that they actually are not, this we find in most cases. Sometimes we just want to quit but lack the nerves, other times we want to stay loyal but this people don't give a 'shit' about you. You die today and someone else will be employed in your stead the next day. I've worked for someone to whom I've sold a lot of my creative work to for just basic salary, I get dumped with loads of work and it is expected of me not to complain. When you do you get picked on and dumped with more work. For my kind of job, where someone else receives credit for your ideas, what would be left with you to show when you are no longer there? People will advise you, it's a training process, true. Others will say, quit, and then what? So I thought real deep about it and I got to realize that while there, I could still leave my foot prints in the sand so why not begin to do something for yourself? I kept thinking about it and an opportunity presented itself so I quickly took it. There was no money involved, yes, but I wanted my name out there. It was a way for me, preparing the way for the future.
Most times we don't make plans on time. We want to work after we graduate, then what? What's that money for? Are we going to make plans with what we earn to liberate our nearest future or are we going to Born with an expressive soul, Agbo Igweye Anna is a content just blow the provider (writer), content manager money on and a brand manager with something we years of experience. c a n n o t email: ableme256@gmail.com, account for sms 08098494258 later on? fail not because I fell but because I refused to rise, I got lost in the sands of time not because I failed but because I refused to contribute and fulfill my purpose, I was living comfortably yet I felt lost & unfulfilled. it was because I gave up my vision/passion/dreams for what society terms a better future choice (I almost ended up becoming a face in the crowd and when my time would have been done I would have shortchanged the world, limited

destinies that where attached to mine and made the graveyard richer and the earth poorer) No matter how much I would have loved to blame other people for my problems, they weren't. For it's my life, my choices, my problems, my mistakes & hopefully my lessons (for destiny isn't a matter of chance but of choice, for what you choose will become yours. The only thing stopping you is who or what you have chosen to listen to). I can love & admire people but they are not to determine how I feel about myself & how I carry myself (stop waiting on other people to give you permission for something God has already appointed you to do). There is a lesson in almost everything that I did, circumstances I went through and people I met. Getting the lesson, moving forward and letting it enrich my life and spirit makes the journey a success.
When something bad happens I have realized I have three choices, either let it define me, destroy me or strengthen me. I have learnt not to waste my time being upset about something I can't change! What lies behind & before me is nothing compared to what lies in me. A new one thousand naira note & a dirty, oil stained, stepped on one thousand naira note is still valued the same. The dirt, oil or foot stain doesn't change the value. I decide what my value, self worth, respect & use is. I might fall, make mistakes or take a lot of wrongs turns but ICHEMETA GRACE OCHOGA that's ok, I just have to is young, fly and saved. Realizing and fulfilling my purpose isn't the end of my living, it isn't the finished mark of existence, for when it's all said & done the journey never really ends. because every destination is the start of another journey & my failure in the first leg of the journey has me stronger for the second leg. It doesn't matter how many times you've struck out in the past, your next swing could be your home run hit! At the end of the day its in Christ righteousness and not mine, its in His grace not my works ( not that grace is a liability or licenses to sin) We spent so much time regretting the past and fearing the future, that it has cause most of our greatest problem. We almost never allow ourselves to grow or see the present moment and its glory. Sarah jakes said something just right after her divorce : "This is for you…You who chose to give up on your dream because you're convinced the weight of your past will never outweigh the hope of your future. I just wanted to tell you
something that I learned, something that remains true to this day….Find out who you are in Christ, allow him an invitation to live in the deepest darkest parts of your heart. When you know whose you are, you will without a doubt run into WHO you are. God doesn't take into account the opinions of others before he decides whether or not to lend us grace. God's grace has seeped into the holes of crack houses, shelters, abortion clinics, jails, even the labor and delivery room of a 14 year old girl. God's grace doesn't consult the whispers' of men because he knows their deepest, darkest secrets, as well. My life could have taken a detour that left me lost, but God saw fit to not just create a roadblock but also guided me home…”

O
ne of the greatest tasks in life is to truly define who you are. In a world filled with over 6 billion people, getting heard is quite a monumental task. A journey only a few dare to embark on due to the fear of huddles on the path to true greatness. Our present generation is characterized with innovations and advanced technologies that have transformed the world into a global community. This huge advantage however suffers patronage from the teeming population of young people across the globe who only utilizes just a fragment of the whole package. Technology has taken over virtually every aspect of human existence. The internet for instance is one of mdoom 66
the greatest things that ever came out of the brain of a human. Everything seems to be controlled by or via the internet. Now, one of the biggest aspects of the internet is Social networks, where millions of young people only think it's a tool to meet people and share your daily activities. The truth is that it's way more than that. The internet is a store that records your usage and activities in a systematic and organized manner. So just like you have a CV written in ink and paper, your activities on the internet is your internet CV or resume. So that when someone wants to know you or do business with you, he first of all goes through your profile to know your
lifestyle, interests, quality of your posts, the size of your follower ship base, your likes, associations, what you endorse, your activities etc. I see a time coming where we would no longer need office buildings. Every work, business, school etc will be online. By that time, your internet activity becomes a major criteria to get good jobs, good business connections, opportunities and the likes With all due respect, if your internet presence is basically all about your club sessions, your hangouts, your nude pictures, your favorite celebrities and clubs, your sagged trousers and nigga posses, your half naked jpegs, your unpatriotic criticism of government and leadership, your alcoholic and cigarette moments, your irresponsible and indecent updates, etc... Believe me; you are not yet ready for the next phase of advancement. It's already happening in the UK and America, where before a company employs you, they Google your name, download all your internet related activities and compare it with all the lies people tell on their resumes before they consider you for an interview. “What dominates your internet presence is a true definition of who you really are”. My plea to you reading this piece is to consciously build a winning profile for yourself. If you have a vision for your life in this generation, you cannot afford to have an unprofessional internet presence. Get a website, create a blog, remove nick names from your profile and email addresses, get passionate about building your capacity and advancing your course. Don't get satisfied with where you are; there is more. The internet is not as free as it seems. It's only free for people who never see the massive opportunities you can derive from it. Make the most use of the internet; it's the NEW WORLD in the real world.
When you fuse this with the Grace of God, success becomes cheap. God is able to do exceedingly, abundantly above all you can ask or think but you also have a role to play. Stop getting ready and start living ready. KEEP PUSHING…KEEP BELIEVING…KEEP WINNING... #ABEL EDOKA INSPIRED.

It's not been so long since our time in Secondary School but there's been a massive drastic drop in the quest for knowledge. During our time, we wanted to be good, studied for long hours and even overnight and competed against ourselves. Education was an active, big part and source of happiness in our lives but nowadays, take study out of a students life and he/she be happy. They like it easy and fun. Success doesn't just fall from heaven like our pastors want us to believe, it's a result of hard work and proper preparation because you can't give what you don't have. Success is deliberate and so is failure. "There is no better future than through pen and paper", were my grandmothers last words to me. For a woman who never saw the four walls of formal education and that I never saw her alive after hearing those meant I had heard from God himself and never took my books for granted. Even the bible says "study to show thyself approved..." but what do we see these days? Students are no more studying, they don't. They are not driven or motivated by academic success anymore. Words such as Hard work, determination, perseverance, goals and all that are constantly losing value. The reality is that boys and girls are more conversant with Skelewu, Kukere, Dorobucci, Ukwu, Gobe and a host of other words that hardly have any meaningful mdoom 68
After many years of witnessing a downward trend in student performance, the West African Examination Certificate (WAEC) results have hit an all time low as 70% Of Candidates failed in the May/June edition this year. Many saw it coming considering the dwindling allocation of resources to education in the country and the lack of quality teachers but the most important contributing factor has been the lackadaisical attitude of the students.
contribution to their future. Many of them don't know anything other than what's on TV. If Don Jazzy, Davido and the likes haven't sung it, they won't know it. Social networks such as Facebook and 2go have not helped matters as they have become a hub for the waste of valuable study time. The whole day is spent "keeping up with the Kardashians", chatting and all sorts of rubbish. Students are busy browsing "cheats" or "expo" for WAEC exams and even after the results are out, one of the most searched topics on Google is "how to check WAEC result without scratch card", why would you want to do that? Typical Nigerian attitude of cutting corners and it went horribly wrong this time. WAEC board have argued that the abysmal performance is as a result of a clamp down on "miracle centres" and other exam malpractices, suggesting it has always been this way but I bet not this bad. I know there's a lot for the government, parents and teachers to do but without commensurate effort from the students, there can't be a fix for this. There need to be a change of priority and attitude in secondary students of this generation, they need to understand that there's no way around academic excellence, hardly. Hard work and merit need to exalted and put in its rightful place for all to see and emulate. Until these students learn to take responsibility, we'll be talking about this or even worse for a long long time.

So Ogecha is an interesting name, tell us about yourself It's an Igala name derived from Ojonogecha, which means 'God is the truth'. I believe that my name has helped in shaping both my values and my lifestyle in general. This is because no matter what I do, witness or experience in life, I've come to realize that not only will God’s Word not change – it is forever settled- it holds the answer to every question of life, and no matter how I try to twist it around to suit myself, I find myself bowing my head to the absolute irrefutability of the Truth in God's Word. Why music? I'm an individual with a highly diverse taste for all dimensions of life. I have never been one to follow trends; I love coming up with new ideas. When asked for my 'favorite' things to do, have, wear; I have a hard time picking what I'd love most. But there is one thing I've never had an issue with‌and that is Music. Right from a very young age, I had an inherent love for melodies, I know that most human beings are born this way, but the desire to always have melodies around me, led me to the point where I began to create them. I believe my first complete song was written at the age of 13. Let us in on your Background & Family I was born into a Military home; my father Maj. Gen. PM Haruna, was a dedicated serviceman, but most importantly, he loved God with all his heart and this inspired his children to do the same. Sadly, he went to be with the Lord a few years ago. My sweet mother, Mrs Elizabeth Haruna, supported my desire to do music from the very start. She has been a humungous source of motivation and encouragement and I don't believe I could have come this far without her love and blessing.I never had any intentions of releasing an album, but after the song 'All for You' was produced, my mum could not get enough of it and what would have been nothing more than a dream, became a reality. My siblings are all singers, well; perhaps all except my brother, who made it a point of duty to mess up all our arrangements, back in the day. Your education? I studied Industrial and Systems engineering in the University of Pretoria, after which I studied Fashion Design at The Women's' Development Centre, Abuja and then Istituto Di ModaBurgo in Italy. What inspires your Music ? Music, for me, is life. I think I probably started singing from my mother's womb. I am passionate about it, not because someone told me to be, but because it's something I can give the last ounce of my energy for. I find fulfillment in the freedom I derive from it, and joy from the fact that I am
privileged to be able to redesign it and make it suit me, whatever my mood. When I look at the beauty of Gods creation; it could be color, sound, a voice, a person‌or it could be anger, PHCN gone on strike, rush hour traffic‌,I realize inspiration comes from anything and everything, from a variety of experiences and feelings, and I am grateful for this, because it means there are no restrictions. Who are your Mentors? My husband, Obande Peter Obande, would be the person that inspires me the most. His dedication and drive for excellence, not just in music, but also in life generally, is intriguing. He also happens to be my business manager and the bass player for the band. Mrs. DayoBenjaminsLaniyi(DBL-DOXA) also fascinates me with her savoirfaire and ability to know exactly what to say at each moment in time, without any prior preparation. Her depth and insight are virtues I desire so much of. Who inspires you, musically I like non-conformists, people who have carved out a place and created a unique identity for themselves, those who speak and teach life in their songs, who encourage love and not hatred. Those who know that the future depends largely on what they serve to their listeners, those who are not so blinded by desire for fame, money and the trappings that
go with it, but who seek to add value to life and bring change with their words and with their sound. Do you know anybody like this? I'm probably inspired by this person too. How would you describe your genre of music? I am very particular about the beats I write on, this is because certain sounds trigger immediate responses and others never will. Even though if left to my devices I would say I do not fit into any particular genre, those who listen to my songs tend to classify them as a unique blend of soul and pop. I enjoy writing about life experiences; I believe that a song should always tell a story, and that somewhere out there, someone has also gone through the journey being told in the story. So what should we expect from you in the remaining months of 2014? The official release of the music video for Dumimaja, was one of the milestones set for the year 2014. it was officially released on the 3rd of August 2014, after a 2-year deliberation with the production team. The video was shot in South Africa by Mark Hofmeyr of Trademark pictures, and it was a wonderful experience. Some scenes were shot on Table Mountain in Cape Town. At the moment, I am working on my Sophomore Album. It is slated for release in the first quarter of 2015, by Gods grace. In the mean time, the Ogecha Music Team is working on undertaking a Nation-wide tour, also slated for 2015.

On the Spot What have you learnt over the years? Do what you love: There is nothing as satisfying as enjoying what you do so much that discouragement or criticism seem like mere bumps on the way, something for which no external motivation is necessary, something you can do with or without monetary gain in sight. Grow: Never get complacent, don't think you have arrived, not ever. There is work to be done and until we go home to be with our Creator, there is room for knowledge. Pride: This is one of the worst things you can do to yourself, allow pride and haughtiness taint the way you look at others, esteeming yourself as better than the rest of the world because God deemed it fit to bestow a gift upon you. It's a mistake to puff up your shoulders and treat people badly because you are in a better position.

Steve WILLIZ
On the Spot Tell us about yourself Stephen Williams popularly known as Steve Willis was born 3rd June 198** lol ask me when you see me. I hail from the Fct Abuja a family of 3 brothers, Mathias ,Daniel, I've a B.sc in economics from Nasarawa state university set of '09, I'm presently a civil servant and an artiste. What's your genre of music? I do gospel like we all know, R and B and fusion of pop and what we call 9ja flavor ,basically my aim is to get the youth .That's why I do my kind of music for the young folk... How did music start? I Started music at 15,I had always been a church boy. My mum is also a good singer so I grew up hearing her sing and so I picked interest. I joined the youth church choir where we sang, and I can remember, there where days when I learnt songs and took them back to my mum at home, and she would put me through by teaching me how to sing in parts and she will always say I want to hear you sing out while presenting the songs on Sundays. Some times it didn't go well with both of us, because I'd always end up with hard knocks on my head if I didn't get the parts well.(laughed) But the truth is those little time and hard knocks made me a better singer today, so I always relate it to the passage in the bible that says never despised little beginnings. I had a group back then in my secondary school days which was called the Accapellas, we were 5 in number. Okey, Nelson , Gideon and, Newman, and we were always a blessing in FCS, people always wanted to come hear us sing every Sunday, then I knew the power that God had given me was to preach his word through songs. You know how it is‌ The group broke up, some had to leave the school, so I found myself in a church, New creation bible center in Gwagwalada, where I joined the church choir and I was always leaving school for church service, I remember the first time I got there and

tol d them I wanted to minister they all looked at me like, who's this small boy ? (laughs)and guess what I was that small. You can imagine .you know I have baby face But eventually after three months the pastor wanted the church choir to sing storm is over, the cover that was made by TD Jakes. and the H.O.D of the choir couldn't find anyone who could sing it, so I said I could sing it and we sang it and that was my break through there and then, the pastor fell In love with me and asked me to join the praise team. For me it was an amazing deal because for you to be a part of
the praise team you have to go through a class of about 6 months but here I was given it on platter of gold. I was there and God began to use me. I graduated from secondary school to Nasarawa State University (NSUK).where it all started professionally then I dropped my first album tilted “Addicted to you. We sold about 10,000 copies which wasn't bad for an up coming artiste with no name.and then I shot a musical video which I featured Samsong titled shout hallelujah. after I graduated from NSUK 09. How did you meet Samsong as an upcoming atiste? Yeah I met Samsong a year before I graduated from the university, he came to mdoom 79
the studio where I had a session, he needed to do a song for the late First Lady , Mrs Stella Obasanjo. for her funeral ,and I had to give him the studio time for him to work, not knowing who he was, it was later when he was done and leaving the studio he called me and said thank you very much and asked what my name was. I told him Steve and he said his name was Samsong. I said wait a minute, as in the real Samsong? He smiled and said yes, that's how he took a liking to me and when he came up with his record Label, I was the first to be signed on. Since then it has been a father and son affair. Who are your mentors ? Hmmm I have a couple ‌Dr Panam Percy Paul is one , I call him daddy P. He's a father to me. Growing up he was the only man I could listen to as a church boy lol I could sing like him, sound like him to the point when he heard me, he said he has not heard anyone sound so close like I do when I sing, and yes before I forget my dream finally came through, the dream I never thought would come through. We finally did a song together. for me it was heaven to me. Another man who is my father and I love so much is Samsong. He's my friend, brother, C.E.O and Oga at the top, The church boy. He has taught me a lot in life, from his lifestyle alone I've learnt a million things, so you will have to pay me to give you tips(laughs) but above all he is an awesome mentor always the boss. Dietrick haddon is one also I met him once but never had the chance to work with him but I believe some day mdoom 80

young people. One of the biggest problems we have in most of our churches is that, they don't believe in youth ministry. they Any more projects for 2014? always think,we are young and so God can't use you especially when your dressed like a young guy with your jeans I just finished my latest album, it's actually and chain looking cool, they judge you from your looks and my 3rd project and it came out September forget that God doesn't judge us that way, they always feel 21st 2014 with a live recording concert. God can only use older people. I have been to a church and it The album and concert featured the likes of was said to me this small boy what does he know, he can't Samsong, Solomon Lange, Jeremiah sing on this stage. Gyang, Mista Seth, Promise Benson, Asoni So for me the point I want to strongly pull out is, we the and bode . young people when we dress, Let the anointing of God speak through us, that would be our voice that can prove to those How would you describe your fashion who think the way we dress is wrong or we are young and style ? God can't use us. Be it through music, rapping, dancing to the Lord etc. but how can we prove this? By studying the word, Well I love fashion, I love looking sharp, Praying and seeking his face...that's where the source comes smart and also decent. There’s a saying from. that says “dress the way you want to be addressed” .although some people have What are your expectations for the year? problems with gospel ministers dressed up To put out more videos and also reach out to loads of young like a young dude, sometimes the church people through my music, let them know we can also rock needs to know that God works even in mdoom 81
here. You can be a super star for Jesus because we run and own this game. music was taken from the church so we got this right here ....yes I said it. Any Challenges along the way? Yes I do have challenges. Of course if you don't face challenges you won't appreciate the end product, there must be a test to arrive at your testimonies. That way you will value it. Many of my friends that we started together left the church and went to the other side and they are making it no doubt and some met me and asked me why won't I just change a little and sing about something else like ‘love’, it won't hurt. they even tell me I won't be successful. I told one of them, what you call or define as success is not the same for me‌for me success is when I hold the mic and minister and a broken heart is mended or a sick person gets healed, that for me is a true definition of success. it must not always amount only to money. Any words for up coming artistes? Well trust in God for everything ,my motto has always been God first and man will follow and it works for me, also believe in your dreams and one very important thing you need to have the passion for it. hey will not host you again because the last time you came you did not accept to use the data of their church members, which they gave you to call as word of knowledge... They will not like you again because when they visited your church you did not give them your female church members as their 'comforters' in their hotel rooms... They may not talk good about you again because you refused to preach in their churches where they hypnotize people to use prophecy to collect all the money in their account... They may not accept to be your spiritual father because you don't have fleets of cars packed in your compound and you don't run services ten times...even when they know that you are genuinely called of God.... They may never speak good of what you are 'carrying' because you have refused to join them to go to those demonic mountains to collect powers from the queen of the coast to do miracles... They may say you are not anointed because some Sundays you have more empty seats...and your choristers’ seats stay scanty...
They may say that you have nothing to offer because nobody likes or comments on your facebook posts... OUTREACH They may have been saying you will not go far in ministry because you have made up your mind to preach the undiluted gospel to your members...no matter who comes or goes... Man of God, those that will champion the end time revival will not be moved by what is moving others... They will not be possessed by the spirit of competition... They will not care who likes them or who hates them as long as they are where God says they should be and are doing what God has asked them to do.... If there is any need in heaven it is for a revival to sweep through the pulpits in Africa... If there is anything God is still doing in our days, He is raising churches that will close down churches... He is raising prophets that will silence prophets... In Africa, our pulpits have failed God.... In Africa, those with a passion for revival have been silenced... In Africa, genuine young ministers are now afraid to submit to spiritual fathers, because some of them have bowed to baal. In Africa, people are now going to hell from our churches more than it has been seen in any generation. Please; don't join them...God counts on you. Go to the camps where people pray, you will discover that its now scanty, some are even shutting down, because people are no more seeking the Face of God. Everybody is now on a poster, Some are now in shrines, taking power from demons to do God's work...so that they will become pastors of mega churches in town, handing the destinies of their members to lucifer. the lost in your eyes never get dry... Continue your work in that village... Trek to church if you have to, don't mind this generation of unbroken guys on pulpits who say 'it's a curse to trek to Church'. It is not a curse. If you can trek to school to listen to mortal men...how is it a curse to walk to meet an eternal God...It is a passage leading to where you are going. No wonder all their elders and spiritual sons are ritualists and fraudsters...all their choristers are prostitutes who sleep with men so as to get money so that they won't look cursed... Be faithful in that place... Don't rush to appear on posters... Don't accept the romance of those members who want to rent a hall for you to start your own work. SERVE! Hide, until the Word of God will come to you in that wilderness like it did to John the Baptist...soon African nations will get tired of hearing junk from pulpits and will begin to look for men whose time has come... It didn't make news when Elijah raised the dead boy...But God was testing his passion for dead things. God is weighing your passion to know if you can handle the kind of grace, fame & wealth He will release for the end time revival...Elijah's desire was not for national fame, but for falsehood to crumble in Israel and for Israel to return to God. Don't wait to appear on a poster before you do this work, don't wait for a microphone, don't wait for hotel reservations, don't wait for the crowd to preach to, start with your neighbor, start with your villagers. If you can turn one person to God, you can turn nations to God. ELIJAH BROUGHT THE DEAD BOY BACK TO LIFE BEFORE HE BROUGHT A DEAD NATION BACK TO GOD.
