Should we increase student representation based on your identity, interests and circumstances? Do you want to be more involved in delivering solutions? Have your say at www.mdxsu.com/vote before 2pm Thursday 7 March.

REFERENDUM QUESTIONS 1. 2. 3.

MDXSU should use multiple mediums to gather student feedback, and ensure students are involved in finding solutions at every stage of the policy decision making process. MDXSU should represent students academically at a faculty level, alongside representation based on students’ identity, circumstance, and extra-curricular activities they are involved in. MDXSU should continue to elect student leaders aligned to the Middlesex faculty structure.

Moham Elawad

PRESIDENT

For President Of MIDDLESEX Student Union! (Previous President For MDXACS 2018-2019)

About me I have been in this University for three years studying BA Marketing and took over as President for Middlesex ACS. I was able to be self motivated by exploring all the weaknesses at this university which still need to be achieved. Bringing people together and connecting with them is something that I have always been good at.

What I have already achieved while President for MDXACS 2018-2019? For the first time, we have been involved in external events such as Ministry of sound, Icecream and Waveology which has not happened in the past 5 years. There’s more to come such as the Cargo event and the XOYO partnership take over to finish the year.

A new Coach Partnership which should continue to help me support those societies that want coaches for external purposes. I managed to fight for ALL students in London in order to welcome them to our events at Middlesex which has NEVER been allowed and it will be successful benefiting all societies in 2019 onwards. Launching the First MDXACS YouTube channel this year in March. There has been many more to list which I can’t, but the Main objectives were achieved, thanks to the team.

OBJECTIVE AS PRESIDENT OF SU Accommodation- Return coaches to be provided for every late event that happens In MDX. Society leaders– To have personal funding for society leaders for their time and effort for this university. Funding also for the promo team. New members receive Events– Exploring new events to keep students motivated such as Paintball, Roller-skating, photoshoot, Charity events, Sports events and more take overs on externally and internal. Car Park– To extend the hours of parking backwards instead of 16:30 and local council to have a certain area for students to park with a discounted price. Prices– COMPLETELY Removing the Chartwells Middlesex as many presidents aimed to reduce prices on food but instead they have just increased. Time for a new partnership as there are many out there. BUILDING– Expanding the pray room as it is small. Please Refer to my manifesto of my other aims!

Once again, my name is Moham ELAWAD (MagicMo), you know what to do. (Vote) Thank you!

Danait Fkadu

PRESIDENT

As student president, it will be my aim to ensure that all student's voices are heard. My motivation is simple; I believe in this university and through the collective work of the executive committee, staff and the students, we can continue with great progress that this university is making. Furthermore, I want to be remembered as a student president who pursued the wishes of the students and accomplished many great things. I will be willing to do anything within my power to achieve this as students are my main concern. As student’s president, I will bring leadership, commitment, and creativity to the role along with a strong work ethic and positive mental attitude. Over the next years, I want to see more power in the hands of the students, and this will be an underlying objective of any changes that I make over my term as a student president. Firstly, I will be raising the importance of workshop classes for second and third-year students; as I truly think students should get all the help and guidance they need with their assessments, in order to help them achieve the grades they need. Secondly, I will try and improve healthy diet options on campus, as there are only a few options at the moment, as well as having choices of religious dietary options. Please, support me and vote for me in the student president elections in order to achieve this. If you decide to vote for me, you will be choosing a leader who is dedicated, focused and committed to improving the lives of all students at this university.

Lara Old

PRESIDENT

As President of MDXSU, I want to help continue the work of Ayah this year but continuing to tackle hate crimes on campus and sexual harassment (especially at socials and parties). I want to highlight the POW! Media sector and help students get the experience and knowledge required outside of lessons to get the job they want when they graduate and not just a dissertation - especially those creative students. Finally, I want to create more support networks and knowledge of the in-house mental health care university provides and more outlets for students to depend on because a lot of the time when speaking to students they don’t know about university’s support - as Student Voice Leader I have tried to spread the awareness of such help and encourage lecturers to voice such support as well as look out for at risk students.

Mohammad Pela

PRESIDENT

Dear Students, Let me start by thanking you for giving us your time to vote and to choose a president for the next term, who will be taking responsibility to deliver better services than what we as the student have received in the last couple of years. Vote for someone who has actual/practical work experience, I do not shy away from taking responsibility and to stand for the rights of the students. I will make sure to have more Halal varieties of food available at our university for students. The prayer room needs to be better managed and better facilities need to be provided. The room bookings for societies and is been a joke, it’s in need of some serious reforms and I’ll make sure to make it easy and more efficient for all of us. You deserve a better reward for the poor service you were receiving. It cost us £9000 each term and there must be accountability, the university been having it too easy. Let's not make it easy for them anymore. I have plans for every department of our university, please vote for me and count on me, give me a chance and I will make sure to deliver it. Kind Regards Pela

Denisa Sivakumar

PRESIDENT

My name is Denisa Sivakumar and I'm running for the MDXSU President role. As a current final year student, I have experienced the life as a student and want to help the other students to enjoy their time at Middlesex too. Being the president of the Erasmus und Exchange community in my final year I have taken the role to lead events but also bring in the awareness of our community to the students, for them to know that we are here to help in every possible way. I organised meetings and went to several meetings to hear and understand what students are looking for and make it possible within our community. Being able to work with people who have the same interest is an amazing opportunity and as a MDXSU President it is something that I am looking forward to. I want to become MDXSU President because I want to bring awareness about the possibility of a study abroad as I have realized not many students from Middlesex have thought or heard about that and studying abroad while at university is an opportunity one should not miss. I also want better timetables for students, as there have been clashes with classes and sports activity. To enjoy their time at university one should also be able to join sports activity and the matches. I hope to provide an alumni event where organisations participate and explain requirements programs for graduates as that will help students for furture career plans.

VP BUSINESS AND LAW

Jeison Berrio Calle

Who I am: 2nd year BA International Tourism Management. Current Student Voice Leader. Enactus project member. A competitive person looking for new challenges and self-growth. Open-minded, I believe hard work pays back. Never afraid to defend my ideas.

Jeison Berrio Calle VP Business and Law candidate

Why me? I am an approachable and friendly character that still believes in the good will of people. I do understand people are different and have different needs. I know the struggle of trying to achieve goals without help. I wish better for my colleagues. Life and working experience makes me a strong candidate capable of representing fellow students the way that they need and deserve. I believe unity is strength and I am willing to sacrifice for the common welfare.

What I want to achieve: Different students have different needs, some minorities has life difficulties which interfere with their studies. If I am elected, my focus will be on this people, and how to improve students experience to the maximum. I will be devoted to those minorities making sure that they are given what they need.

Ideas: Improve the way that student’s support and feedback are delivered before the submission of assignments through the use technology. Propose a detailed survey to identify critical IT and network issues, as student complained about different problems on those fields across campus. Explore the possibility of having a 24hour resting area for students with that sole purpose, especially for the exams periods. There are negative comments from students about the quality and variety of food products offered on campus; it is time to take the lead into making real changes on this matter. Bring awareness about student loans, different students ignore the benefits they are missing due to lack of knowledge of how the system works.

BSc Information Technology and Business Information Systems (Final Year) “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others”- Mahatma Gandhi We don’t realize how important our university lives are for not only our future but also in building our personalities. As an international student I understand the difficulty of coming to new place and not having a clue of what to expect from this new life. I will urge the university to be more inclusive of people of different culture, race and religion to set an exemplary standard of diversity for others to follow. I will work with the faculty to provide better learning opportunities for which will help the students to recognize their individual core competencies. I will try my level best to lead you all from the front and work on finding solutions to any degree of problem. Mental health issues are something that are very close to my heart. As the VP I will urge the lecturers to be more understanding of the mental state of a student. The faculty needs to understand what a student goes through. There needs to be a haven provided to the students where they can be fearless and be their true selves. This will require a lot of determination but with extensive hard work and collaboration, nothing is impossible
